My husband and I each had a large steak and cheese. They give very large portions that are fresh and good. We both said it is one of the best steak and cheese we ever had to include Gino's and Pats. They have friendly and excellent customer service, you will not get that at Gino's or Pats. I say to you, you do not have to go to Philly because it is better at Ricks Cheesesteak Shop. Wanted to try this place as I've read good reviews. However, my bf & I ate dinner at Honey Butter & on the way back to the hotel, he mentioned Rickey Cheesetake, so I made a detour. Upon entering....was greeted warmly by the workers & placed my order for the original cheese steak. Although I had just eaten, I told my bf I would take sub back and eat later. First, the food was absolutely delicious. My husband and I both ordered the beef cheese steak, but be warned. If you aren't too hungry, don't order the large sandwich! It was huge! We also ordered the cheese fries with bacon and jalapeños which were also scrumptious! As good as our food was, I think our waitress was even more outstanding and she was a one woman show! She was taking orders, running the cash register, cleaning tables and she did it all with a super smile on her face. She was truly a gem--a definite asset to the business. I grew up in South Jersey and know what a good Philly cheese steak sandwich tastes like. Sadly, the cheese steaks at Rick's aren't it. Now, for Virginia, they aren't bad, but if you're dreaming of a Philly cheesesteak, this will only sort of scratch that itch. There is plenty of meat and cheese in the sandwich, but the meat and especially the roll wasn't right. The roll was too fluffy and the meat had lots of little tough, almost crispy pieces, which says to me they used Steak-um instead of actual fresh, thinly sliced beef. The fries were crispy for the first few minutes, but quickly got soggy and needed more salt. The wait staff was super nice and was perhaps the best part of the experience. If you can forget the Philly part, and just go for a cheese steak sandwich, you will probably not be disappointed. read more

I love this place. I work in Newport News and frequented the location next to my work. It was very disappointed when they closed down but since I live in Williamsburg I was so pleased to find out they opened near the college. It was our last night in the area so we decided to give it a try since it was so close to our hotel. Our only regret was not finding the place sooner. The cheesesteaks were amazingly delicious as were the scampi wings. The sandwiches were huge with more than enough meat and the wings were finger licking good. The staff were super helpful in explaining the menu and very friendly. Prices are very reasonable and the place is roomy and clean. Ventured to Ricks for the first time today and can't figure out why I haven't been sooner. I enjoyed the special which included a 6inch cheesesteak with fries and a drink for $10. We're from PA & this place has better cheese steaks than we've ever had in Phila.! Another fabulous choice is the Rueben (they'll do a corned beef/pastrami mix also. Piled high & delicious. Wings are great w/the special sauce Kaitlyn makes. Kaitlyn, the owner's daughter is thrilled to be there & loves the customers. It's always great fun & eating when we hit Rick's. We love Rick's! We were frequent visitors to their location near Fort Eustis, and we're very excited that they have moved closer to home. First of all, the service can't be beat. If you come in one time, the waitress recognizes you and welcomes you back like family. Never ever had a bad experience. The food is magical. The cheesesteaks and jalapeño bacon cheese fries are definitely a favorite. Large portions of food, definitely more than I can eat in one sitting. This place is awesome. Reasonable prices, HUGE portions, great flavor. I couldn't decide between the regular cheesesteak and the buffalo chicken cheesesteak, so she buffaloed my regular cheesesteak. My boyfriend brought me here for lunch one weekend, and although I have never had cheesesteaks he convinced me that this would be the best I have ever had. Well he was RIGHT! so right! for my first time to the 15th time I've had Ricks, it is by far the best cheesesteak I have ever had. I have tried some other places after having Rick's and nothing compares to theirs. The portion is way more meat than I would have ever expected, and its just so damn good every time. I always get the chicken philly cheesesteak and it never disappoints. I make it a true point to eat it at least once when I'm visiting in town. Not only are the cheesesteaks good, but the friend cheesecake with the strawberries that they give you...OMG! so freaking yummy! this place is legit and the staff are really friendly and they actually do remember you every time you come in which makes the experience that much more enjoyable and definitely has me coming back over and over again!
