Ordered a beef burrito. I'm thinking it was ground beef since carne asada was also on the menu. They stated it was beef, chili and cheese. First bite was disgustingl, I was so hungry that I attempted to tolerate it and I couldn't do it. I'm gonna have to start preparing my own food way more often, $10 down the drain.

It must be at least 5 years since I last visited Rick's. I remember when they first opened in Gardena back around 75' or 76'. A good friend from high school was one of their first hires. Obviously, the building has seen better days. Every now and then, I wonder if they're still around and low and behold, they've managed to survive. The food isn't as good as I remember but surprisingly, it was pretty good and they've kept their prices within reason as well. I have great memories of their combination burrito so I decided to see how well they're being made these days. It's really unusual because it's a juicy burrito. Instead of grilled pieces of carne asada, they use what almost seems like a soupy beef stew with bits of lettuce, onions, bell peppers, and tomatoes. It actually works pretty well. What was missing was the delicious salsa they used to use in the old days. This left my burrito a bit bland and boring. Still, it was acceptable. I ordered the chorizo plate for my wife and we enjoyed the taste even though it was a bit heavy on the salt. I appreciated the fact that the chorizo was drained of excess grease unlike some other places in the area where the food floats in orange goo. I was pleasantly surprised to find the bill was less than $20 so props to Rick's for that. It was nice walking down memory lane but it's sad to see how bad the neighborhood has become. Restaurants in the area close early because of the crime you read about in the police blotter that occur at night. It's fairly common for people to get robbed at gunpoint or knifepoint after 10 so frequenting businesses like the Lady Luck card club or filling up your car with gas might not be the best idea. Daylight hours are fine but unless you're already in the area, I wouldn't drive out of my way to try Rick's. By the way, how do they avoid problems using In and Out in their name? Some things remain a mystery.

My family has coming here since middle school days when we lived in Gardena. The prices are always reasonable. We only get breakfast when we come though . So I can't really comment on the quality of food since what I usually get is usually good lol. The employees are always super nice, food is brought out piping hot with a smile lol. I'd say the entrance is truck stop diner-ish lol. I don't come for the decor, I come for the food! The only thing I do NOT is the restroom, it was awful when I tried to use it. I just held it and went to my friends house instead lol

As far as the food, it is good, yet they advertise that they close at 8pm. I went there at 7:45pm and I was told that they were closed. NOT ETHICAL OR GOOD BUSINESS PRACTICE. If they close at 7:45pm that is what it should say and that it how the business should be advertised on their window and on their website...both of those places say 8pm not 7:45pm. read more

Just went to Rick's order Chili Cheese Fries with fruit punch. The food was horrible, fries were cold not fresh, cheese not melted. Fruit Punch was watered down. I have eaten at Ricks for 28 years. This morning I ordered eggs hashbrowns and sausage- it wasnt listed on the menu board so I was surprised when she said it was almost $15? I simply asked why it was so much - no raised voice, nothing. After she told me why, another worker came over and they started talking crap about me- not knowing that I (an old white lady) am fluent in Spanish? When I told her that I knew what she had just said about me her response was that they were talking about someone else- even though the counter was empty? Then the cook got involved and started giving me dirty looks- the guy who was making my food!!Mind you, I never said a word to anyone after she told me the price? I am a liberal human rights advocate and has seen racism up close, and I know when it's happening. In this case a group of people saw someone who didn't look like them and made an assumption by their skin color. Racism is racism, and it needs to be brought into the light of day. On October 11, 2025 I ordered a Western Omelet with a additional cheese for $1.25 with Door dash. The omelet was dry but the bigger problem was the no cheese in the egg.. When I called and said I didn't get any cheese, the lady on the phone said the omelet doesn't come with cheese. Every other time I order it the Omelet had cheese, this time I wanted more cheese. I went out with some friends on a Sunday--at first glance, the line looked long, but it moved quickly, and we were seated without much wait. I ordered grits with bacon and eggs. The bacon and eggs were solid--definitely the highlight of the meal. The French toast had a great aroma, but overall, nothing really wowed me. To be honest, the bacon and eggs are the only reason I'd even consider going back--but chances are, I probably won't. read more

I used to eat here all the time... but the past two times have been very disappointing. Two times ago ordered the bacon and eggs and it's usually good but when I got home I seen that the bacon was waaay overcooked I couldn't eat it. So I went back and they gave me some better cooked bacon. But after today I'll never go back. I got home and half way into my meal I seen a long black hair... WORSE COSTUMER SERVICE EVER!!! At approximately 7:30pm, as I got to the drive thru window ready to order, the lady who takes the orders rudely stated that Ricks was closed, and continue to say they close @7:45pm I proceeded to tell her that all signs outside the building clearly said OPEN. She then peeked to see the signs, saw me & then muted herself. I waited there, & no answer. I also went on google to see their hours & it clearly says 7am-8pm! I think this is very unprofessional. & hopefully something can be done to stop this. read more

Yes, I got the hair! First time getting fries for lunch n I found myself w a piece of black hair on my fries. I tried to blame it on myself that it was probably my hair but after reading other reviews im pretty sure it wasn't my hair. So yes it's true! Who knows who works there w long black hair n their hair keeps falling off Idk. The fries were good but idk if I wanna eat them w a hair on them. Greasy goodness at it's best. It was always a danger walking out of the Fitness 19 and staring at Rick's. It's a very basic, cheap, no frills, semi-diner feel of a place. Gets you in and out, as one would expect. My Ppersonal favorite on the menu is the beef burrito. read more

Didn't think much of this place when passing by. However, my husband and I decided to stop by just to try it out and boy I'M GLAD WE DID. Rocio was amazing. She very attentive, helpful and very friendly. The prices were very reasonable. And the food was very good, especially the onion rings! We will definitely be coming back. read more

History

Established in 1976.

Ricks Drive in and out is one of many restaurants opened by Mr. Rick in the Los Angeles area. The current owner started out as a breakfast cook here in 1977 and became an owner by the year 1978. In 2004 the city of Gardena filed eminent domain on the restaurant, yet, through the efforts of many loyal customers and Angelenos’, the ruling was overturned. Rick’s continues being a staple of Gardena, you may know us for our famous sign on Rosecrans Ave. or as the best breakfast, burger, and Chili Cheese Fries around.

I prefer the beef but my wife went with the chicken. She liked the fact that their teriyaki sauce isn't overly sweet like so many other teri places. They did a great job with the rice this time too. It can be rather hit or miss quite often. The medium bowl is a great deal. A very generous portion of food for the price. A large would have been overkill to take to the stadium. I still had leftovers after the game so I'm glad I didn't go with the larger order. Calling the order in is definitely the way to go. It's usually not too busy but during the weekend, it can get crazy and take forever if you order at the counter. Play it safe and make a phone order.

When I spotted that they had Pumpkin Spice drinks, I knew I needed to try it. I'm a big pumpkin spice girl and won't pass up a PSL drink when I see one. One can get the Pumpkin Spice, hot, iced or iced blended. I got my drink ice blended with regular milk. A small came out to about a little over $6.71 I was slightly surprised since the menu showed a small about a $1 less than that but then I saw that whipped cream was extra. Hmm I'm not a big whipped cream fan and honestly would've skipped it if I knew it was extra. Inspite of the initial sticker shock with slightly higher price, I ended up enjoying my drink. It has a really good pumpkin flavor. It was cool and quite refreshing. It also had a bit of a caffeine kick. The Pumpkin Spice was good and I've got my eye on their Cookie Butter and Fruity Pebbles for a future indulgence.

It was super soft and fatty and ended with a heavy pleasant fishy flavor. The miso grilled cod was great. Not much to say about it was almost creamy and the miso was good. I ate the skin too and it tasted great. The main part of this place is the soba. The kikouchi soba are thicker 100% buckwheat noodles that were very well cooked and pleasant to eat. The Plum "Ume" broth was so refreshing and nice. I ate it cold; I probably would have preferred it hot but the is just a personal preference. The Ginger Pork was great. The pork itself was super gingery without being too pungent. The shredded cabbage was super easy to pick up and eat and the side of noodle salad and miso soup were great complements to the meal. I can tell no corners were cut anywhere and that Otafuku puts a little of effort into every meal they prepare. There is great care for all of the preparations and it was a very special meal. I felt like I was in Japan for a second as the feel of the restaurant is very "homey" and the ambiance is a nice cheerful atmosphere.

I been a loyal customer here and they just act like bitches every time i go especially this old lady with glasses who without telling me charged almost $4 for a grilled cheese!!! really? ....REALLY.... are you guys starving or something. On top of that i ask her why its so much she said "look at your receipt and rudely walked away. After 4 months of coming here. This was my last time I rather eat and a place where people are okay with their jobs. Not grumpy with a stick up their ass every single time. And the grilled cheese tasted like shit. Always can count on Ricks Burgers for a good breakfast, lunch or dinner. The word is QUALITY. Im not kidding everything here you can taste the quality, love the seasoned fries!.... Before New Update after several times coming here it seems the ladies are starting to not like me or my friend, they have this annoyed face when i get there and when i or my hubby call and order they sounded rude. As you all know I am a bbq beef girl and I gave 5 stars reviews every time, I also told you to get the bbq beef. It seems they have not been able to put the bbq sauce on the bbq beef or on the side? This pissed me off since we have been promoting Rick's. One more try before I switch to Jersey Mije's who has a to die for bbq beef, they will keep us as customers.
