Today I filed a complaint to the bureau of automotive repairs and also the better business bureau about Rick's R&B auto. He replaced my front axle. While the front axle was under warranty the right front seal began to leak. I called Rick and he said the problem was not related to the axle and he would not look at it. I took the car to Secor's auto repair where they recommended I take it to whoever replaced the axle. I told Secor's that the mechanic would not look at the axle or the seal. Secor's repaired the leak. A few days later the car began to leak again. Secor's fixed the leak a second time. They said it was the axle causing the leak and that they would not fix it again. When I took the car back to ricks RB auto, he was as usual, rude and abusive. Finally she agreed to replace the axle with another, similar rebuilt or aftermarket axle. A few days later both seals on both sides of the car began to leak. Rick said he would fix the leaks, but at that point I felt I needed a new, original Toyota parts axle as I could not afford any more down time waiting for my car to be operational. Rick refused and was abusive. The car now sits in my driveway, non-operational, nonsaleable, and an eye sore. read more

I found Rick on Yelp by searching "brakes" on my trusty iPhone to find someone close to me. I was pretty astonished that he had all 5 star reviews. This doesn't happen very often, since we all know disgruntled people love to write reviews. I knew I had to get some work done on the ol' Ford, and I had the next day open. I called Rick, and he gave me an appt for the next day. I dropped my car off, and Rick called me within about 30 minutes. He quoted me the job and had it done the same day. Gas is more expensive here than closer to the freeway. Also, I avoid this place like the plague when I see the tent and table set up for the occasional vendors they allow. Sometimes it's windshield repair but more often it's the waterless carwash spray stuff and those salespeople are like aggressive sharks. They won't leave you alone while you're pumping gas. Even when I tell them I never wash my truck, that I just wait for it to rain, they keep bugging me. LOL! read more

Excellent first impression! Very hospitable, I was greeted immediately upon arrival and paperwork was handled within the first 5 minutes by Rick and his team. Need a great mechanic with integrity - go to Rick's Auto! It is in the Shell station in Rancho Bernardo. I was referred by a friend whose husband is extremely picky about his car service and was not disappointed. My car overheated the other day and after letting it sit all day I drove it to Rick's. They assessed my car quickly and 2 different mechanics test drove it. In the end, Rick (the Owner) said there was nothing but a possibly plug in the hose and that everything looked good. And guess what.... no charge! I couldn't believe it! They spent about an hour on my car and probably could have charged me an arm and an leg because I'm a girl and don't understand cars - but they didn't. Went there this morning and Rick gave me an estimate of $330 to service my Transmission, radiator, and power steering. When I came back the bill was $265. He told me that my hoses didn't need replacement and there was no filter for my transmission to replace........only a screen to clean. read more

I totally agree with Walter M.'s review below. This guy (Rick) has no manners, no honesty, is a total rip-off, and a jerk! We took my son's car ('99 Mercedes Benz) to this shop a few months ago, and it took the guy more than 10 days to decide that his transmission needs to be replaced. So, we trusted what we thought was a professional, and replaced the transmission. A few months down the road, my son experienced the same problem with his car, so we towed it back to the shop. This dick.. I mean, Rick... requested diagnostic fees (I may as well have gone to a dealer). When I told him it was the same problem we experienced last time, HE CALLED US CHEAP!!! He said if we didn't want to pay diagnostic fees, we would need to tow the car out of his shop right away. I would highly recommend AGAINST coming here to fix your car. It's a complete waste of time and money, and you will be treated like dirt. read more

I work near Rick's shop and had to get my car towed there during my lunch break for an emergency broken radiator. He told me exactly what was wrong and had my car finished within the following day which was awesome. Since that first time I've been back to his shop for various other car problems, and he has always shown me exactly what was wrong, given his honest opinion on the damages and repair quotes, and always gives me a good deal price-wise. I bring my car in on my lunch break, and it's done by the time I have to drive home, so convenient for a work schedule. I've been to Rick's shop the last few times I've needed anything for my vehicle, and every time have experienced amazing customer service, and the best prices! Rick is a genuine guy and actually cares about customer satisfaction. Last time I needed tires he gave me a lower price than anywhere I could find for quality tires, and threw in a complementary alignment. They always have fast service, but recently I needed my oil changed and happened to show up while it was busy. Because it took longer than originally quoted, Rick gave me the oil change for free. This has truly been the worst auto experience of my life. I had my brakes done eight months ago and have had my truck back in the shop six times for my brakes squeaking loudly since I first brought the truck in. Every time I bring it back Rick has a new excuse, my tires are too aggressive, the wear on the tread of the tires is uneven causing the brakes to not work right, I need city tires, my truck isn't strong enough to be a pool work truck, it's a 4x4 v8 f150 5.4L extended cab. There's more, I can go on and on about the poor customer service of calling asking for calls back and not getting them, trying to have adult civil conversations on the phone and getting hung up on, being told to come back the next day so I could be taken care of and showing up the next day and the shop not even knowing I was bringing my truck back in. What it comes down to is the truth. Rick is going to BS you, lie to you, and not treat you with customer care, and the worst part is, they'll treat your vehicle the same way, Rock couldn't get my brakes to stop squeaking and voided my warrantee. I didn't even list everything else, I hope this is enough to get you to take your business elsewhere. read more

I figured I would give it a try, it couldn't be worse than the other mechanics I had been to since I moved to San Diego. I needed a 100k tune up on my car. Rick was a straight shooter, he told me everything I needed to do and exactly what he was going to do for the price he quoted me. WOW! this was a change. After he completed all the work in the same day, he explained to me everything he maintenance on the car. While he was doing the maintenance on my car he checked to see if anything else need to be done. He didn't find anything or try to sell me some filter I didn't need. This was great! An honest mechanic!!! It was a great experience and the price was 1/4 of what Midas told me for the same work.
