First time in Rockaway and this food was great. We had the taco salad and nachos and they both were appropriately proportioned. Rick was fun on the phone and picking up our food. We didn't eat in because we don't drink, but the atmosphere was jovial, especially since the Oregon Ducks just beat Kansas to get into the final 4 in the NCAA basketball tourney. My husband and I were starved when we got to Rockaway last weekend. We stopped at Rick's for lunch and enjoyed our meal so much that we ended up going back there the next day for lunch. We can recommend the taco salad, patty melt, reuben and halibut fish & chips. The taco salad was the best I have ever eaten. Very fresh and very tasty. My husband loves a good reuben and his sandwich was tasty. The fish & chips were good (good tasting fish and lots of yummy fries). We will definitely be back. On a mid September Friday night the place was somewhat noisy, busy, and smelled of old beer. We ate at the bar and the burgers were delicious as were the fries. Reasonable prices, friendly wait staff, and for a filling meal, the Ricks Road House was fine. read more

Well I must say that we, and I mean qty.14 people plus have been coming down for years now without an issue. This one star rating is way too much for the service we were given this time! This year we came down and found that evidently only locals are welcome now. We were told the first two nights that they were closed when we tried to come in. First night was at 8:00, and the 2nd was at 9:00. Yet there were plenty of people inside, and tons of room. Our group has come down every night for years on the same week and dumped hundreds of dollars each night here. We are moving onto somewhere else now. It seems that only locals are welcome now!? New staff? New owners? We do not know, but we do know that unfortunately Rockaway will no longer be reaping the benefit of us coming down to visit. Very friendly, very hometown-with real regulars and everything! Hubbs had had the quesadilla, which was very good he said-sides of guacamole, sour cream and salsa. I had had the nachos minus the meat with all the sides...very good! The mariner game was on and had the chance to people watch-always a favorite. Looks to be a very favorite local place with a lot of good talk going around. Would recommend if you want good food, good environment and don't mind town talk. read more

Never again....seafood was out of a box from the freezer. The location was understaffed...not my idea of a fun atmosphere.

Great place to watch some football! They have 4 or 5 big screens and every seat in the place has a view. Great staff too. We met Rick when we were in there, great guy. During half time, he played funny youtube videos on a couple of the smart TVs to keep everyone entertained. Great atmosphere, prices, and dive bar food! Definitely be coming back! read more

My boyfriend and I actually got engaged this week on the beach down in rockaway. It was a rainy windy day and we wanted to grab a drink and celebrate. We had gone to ricks the night before and had so much fun that we went back after the proposal. Both times we went we had excellent service and such great company from the locals. I would fully recommend this bar to anyone looking for friendly people and great drinks!! read more

One star is one too many stars. I live in Portland where bars don't close at 10pm so a quick call made to them about drinks was followed by " well we're a bar so what do you think". We still stopped in to check it out since it was the only place open and apparently they were in fact a bar as we were so politely told prior.... upon entry we are quickly told by a very angry old white woman to leave as they would apparently not serve us a drink with over 30 minute until closing. No hello, goodbye, sorry, have a nice night. So we leave and the heavy door slams behind us and as we walked we could hear people talking about us as if we purposefully slammed the door. A man then came out to guard the door and watched us as we left. Several factors could be at play here but based on how my boyfriend and I look, I would say if you are a person of color, younger or not a local- find a different place. read more

Come for Karaoke, stay for great affordable drinks, friendly folks, and a killer dance party DJed by the man himself. 10 of us rolled in from Portland on a busy Saturday night and were treated like regulars. The hole in the wall bar feeling is definitely present, which I love so I was rather content. The service was great, the staff was friendly, they had Monday night football on, decent food and beverage pricing. I ate the filet, it was really tender, but the flavor wasn't the best, the fries were delicious, so all around not bad for the meal side of the experience. They were out of quite a bit so the selection was small but overall, I would go back and try something else just for the service, price, and atmosphere! read more

Rick is a rude you-know-what. We planned on having dinner there last Friday, arrived to a semi-busy (in Rockaway terms) night. Approached the bar to order a drink while we waited for a table. Rick/Dick was very flustered and overwhelmed by the semi-crowd. He looked past us to take the order of someone else. She said "they (we) were here first". He looked at me, I asked what type of grapefruit they had for greyhounds. His sweaty reply was "it doesn't matter" and looked back to the women he preferred to wait on. We turned around and had a nice dinner at the Lakeside Hideaway. Don't go there unless you like rudeness. He's awful. read more

we stopped here on our coastal trip, and were extremely happy with everything -- the fried halibut was outstanding, and the portion was huge. a solid variety of beers on tap for a dive bar as well -- Widmer in addition to old favorites. the best thing was the service and fellow patrons. they were very warm and friendly to out-of-staters like us. really a wonderful way to get acquainted to the Oregon coast. it seems like the best bar in Rockaway Beach to me. read more

4 to 5 stars. Sports type bar, kind of appeared to be the happening place for the locals. Rick and wife very friendly, nice energy in the place! Burger (patty melt) was cooked perfect. Reasonably priced!!! Did no go back, wife thought it was too loud said it gave her a headache, I hear that all the time....regretful again : ) Will go back when in that neck of the woods again and the wife's memory fades, it was not that bad. I ate my "lunch" today @3pm on a weekday. Should have been a "down-time" for a restaurant. I had prawns & fries with a green salad & iced tea. All food & drink was great! The salad was crisp & had fresh ingredients. Service was friendly & prompt. I'll gladly come back! read more

Been here a couple times now when visiting. The cook is like an artist in the kitchen. For bar type food this place is top notch! They have seafood and steak and I will try then eventually, but the burgers are just so good. Listening to the locals while you wait is priceless! read more

It was a cold and rainy evening in Rockaway...anyhoo... We were cold and hungry and I wanted a big juicy burger before I curled up in front of the fire. Walked in checked out the menu and saw that pork roast was the evening's special, suddenly my burger cravings were replaced by wanting a comforting dinner. Score! It was delicious! Real, home-style mashed potatoes, no boxed potato buds here! The mash and the very generous portion of tender pork roast was topped with a tasty gravy. Corn was the vegetable side which completed this dinner plate of comfort. My husband got the bacon and blue cheese burger and it was big and juicy and tasty. It was so big he couldn't quite finish it because he also enjoyed all of his fries... Quick service, fresh food and quick bartending service are highlights of this local bar stop. I will be returning before we go home to try a burger for myself. read more

WOW!!!!! I mean, WOW!!!!! We stumbled upon this establishment a year ago and we got take-out hamburgers. Um, we didn't say a word back at the house while we devoured every morsel. We vowed that this would be our "indulgent" treat every trip to Rockaway thereafter. Tonight, I told my mom we should dine in, hang out with the locals, add local flavor to our burgers....Rick, the owner, came over and introduced himself and after mutual preferences were identified, he launched The Kennedy Center Led Zeppelin tributes on the flat screens/Bose....this is a MUST STOP for anyone looking for an authentic, congenial, tasty, inspired meal.
