After our second trip to Rockaway Beach, my family and I decided to finally give the Sand Dollar Restaurant a try. Not quite sure why we had a block on this place. You can't beat the view with this place right on the beach. Plus, it happened to be a beautiful day. When we walked in it felt very comfortable and more modern than I was expecting but had a comfortable ambiance. The service here was great. We were greeted right away. Our waitress was fantastic as well. I went with the Rockfish Sandwich which came with 2 pieces of rockfish, tartar sauce, creamy slaw, lettuce, and onion. I went with no tomatoes. Honestly, this tasted great. The fish was fried perfectly, not greasy at all. The fish appeared fresh as well. This came with battered fries. My youngest daughter had the grilled cheese, which she easily took down. No complaints. The menu may have changed, but we had some prawns in a chili sauce that tasted great, and my wife and other daughter had a salad with shrimp. This tasted great as well. The shrimp had a nice flavor and were not over cooked. It was the perfect addition to the salad. It was a little more on the pricier side, but everything is getting more expensive now days. Overall, we had a great experience. We had a great view, everyone working there was friendly, and our meal tasted great. The Sand Dollar is certainly worth a try. read more

My daughters ordered the grilled cheese and fries, I had the shrimp Louie and we had oyster shooters. The grilled cheese sandwiches were great - lots of cheese on thick bread. We loved this place and ended up visiting twice during our stay in Rockaway Beach! The service was excellent both times, and the prices were very reasonable. On our first visit, we had the fish tacos and elk burger sliders, and both were delicious. On our second visit, we tried the clam chowder. After tasting chowder all along the Oregon Coast, Sand Dollar's was our favorite. It wasn't overly thick, the subtle hint of bacon added great flavor, and it was served piping hot. My husband said the clam chowder was superb. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in Rockaway Beach. And you can't beat the view! read more

We sat outside as it was a fair day. Our waiter was a bit clueless about the food. I asked if the side salad had spinach, cant stand that crap and he said nope, it has mixed greens and no spinach. Dylan was our server. Worst service ever! We had a baby at the end of the table in a high chair. He ONLY stood above her and served food and drinks from there. Wouldn't walk around the table and give people their orders. He sat all the food down in front of the baby instead of where it was supposed to be. At the end of our time here he stood there and asked if we had a card for him to take. We told him no not yet because we still had kids eating and cleaning up and boxing up our food. He then asked if we had cash then and if we wanted change when we hadn't set anything out or even got into our purses to get the cash out. He was not confident nor friendly. He was just present. We addressed this with the manager and she had no interest in listening to us or acknowledging anything. We did not want Dylan part of that conversation. But he was there. There was no wait to be seated which was nice and we got to sit outside with a gorgeous view of the beach. The food itself was really good so no complaints there. The downside was the service. It was really slow and once we got our food no one checked on us at all during the meal. I had also ordered a Shirley Temple that was completely forgotten until another server eventually brought it out. It felt like we were kind of forgotten about which was disappointing. Right on the beach, so you can see the waves roll in. Is usually dog friendly (why I chose it) but with the weather being wet and windy, the patio wasn't open. Maybe next time... the wait staff were prompt too. I had the oyster shooters, featuring local oysters. They were humongous! Fresh and salty. We split a cioppino. We were seated right away, and our drink order came out promptly. Not too long for food either, but after that, I'm not sure what happened to our server. We ended up getting up and going to the front counter to pay. I was thinking about trying a dessert, but I lost interest after waiting for so long. We ordered the cod fish and chips ($24). I really liked the vibe and this nice restaurant by the ocean. I sat on the outside area and it was most enjoyable. My waiter was overwhelmed and service was a bit slow. I was happy to be patient and it was worth it. I enjoyed a very tasty old-fashioned. I started with a salad that was large and had some fresh tomatoes with cheese. I had blue cheese dressing, which was tasty. The salad was a little bland . My entrée was fresh sautéed halibut. It came on a very tasty crispy politic cake with fresh veg. They were still nice and al dente with lovely taste. The whole thing was topped off with a lemon butter sauce and I enjoyed it thoroughly. The views are very nice here and the people are friendly. Absolutely amazing dinner tonight. I had today's special of steelhead over polenta with grilled vegetables and a wild mushroom cream sauce topped with micro greens. Incredibly prepared and delicious- large portion with enough for take home tomorrow! Partner had the pork schnitzel with mashed potatoes and was quite happy.The service was excellent and the view of the ocean is breathtaking. Excited for the new menu starting this week (on the 11th) to celebrate their 11th year. Many new table additions overlooking the beach and ocean. Waitress was awesome and checked on us often, unfortunately she didn't offer the seared halibut when we asked about specials, but we heard her colleague offering it, (after our order had arrived). Fish tacos on the other hand were not so awesome. They were definitely frozen and so dry. Chowder had a good flavor but was liquid thin and lacked chunks of clam. This was the best place we ate while enjoying the Oregon coast. This place sets itself apart from other nearby dinner locations by providing different options than were offered elsewhere. This cute restaurant offers views of the beach, and a beautiful beach themed mural on the walls. What better way to spend an evening than watching the waves crash against the shore while eating delectable food? The shrimp tacos were amazing! And don't forget to order a side of rice and beans. First time in Rockaway and chose this restaurant for the view. We ordered soup, calamari and fish tacos. The chowder tasted delicious. Not many clams but the flavor was good. Wish I had gotten a bowl instead of a cup, The calamari was undercooked & the breading was pale. I ate one and hubby tried a few but we just didn't enjoy it. I know what the texture should be and this was just off. I think the oil wasn't hot enough or they didn't fry it long enough. It came to the table warm -- not hot. The waitress should have come by sooner so we could tell her and then she disappeared for a long time to talk to the cook. After another long wait she brought us fresh calamari that looked better but we asked for it to go and received no dipping sauce. She also told us to go inside to pay but all other patrons were paying at their tables. That was a little odd. Next time offer to either refund or make a fresh batch and let the patron decide. We were almost late for our appointment because the replacement took a long time. In addition to that the portions of fish in the tacos were very small. They tasted good but not very filling. Service was fine. We are trying to new places and this was on the don't come back list. The special sturgeon ok give it a go, What ever grill they used was not clean the fish tasted like everything they cooked for the last week in the fish. I have caught more sturgeon then I can count and i am well versed on how,to cook sturgeon and that was not sturgeon. Either way the waitress was nice enough to take a 10 percent off for poor cooking but its off the list now. I had a stomach ache from what I did eat of the rest of the food but pushed the fish aside. Then when checking out she tells me the tip is included so I'm thinking the bill was $117 was for 3 bowls of chowder, child's chicken and Ff and a burger basket and 4 soft drinks so I signed the check without selecting (which I thought I was doing) but apparently the addition 17 dollar tip was preselected. Very disappointed. Our waiter was clueless, and not at all pleasant. The fish and chips was very soggy, when we complained he just shrugged and walked away. Another waiter (tall guy) spilt water on the floor, while cleaning the next table, just left it, couldn't be bothered to clean it up. The only reason this is 2 and not 1 star, the salad was good. The location is hard to beat. Large parking area due to beach access being right next door which provides great people and beach watching during your visit. Went a few times during our stay. Service is great but a tad slow only because they are extremely busy. Get a drink, take in the view, be patient. It's worth it. We had a few modifications to our meals that were missed by the kitchen (they didn't seem like huge asks: no cheese on a vegan meal, salad instead of fries, dressing on side). The lesson was: when busy, the kitchen is just trying their best to keep up. You'll get it as the menu is stated. If that's an issue, just go when it's slower. read more
