After a failed attempt to get service at Wrightwood we thought we'd give this a shot. We've driven by a hundred times, but never stopped in. We've truly been missing out on this gem. They squeezed us in immediately (party of 6) and we we're off and running. I had Rick's burger and am embarrassed to say, being a self-proclaimed burger professional, had to knife and fork this bad boy and it was awesome!! My wife had the roast beef sandwich, my mom had the cheese burger, my dad had the grilled chicken and the boys had burgers. All were excellent! Don't just pass Rick's by as we have the past 12 years. I am a local in Pinon Hills just off highway 138. I have been going to Rick's since I moved here about 13 years ago. On the first visit, I met Rick, his lovely wife, and two waitresses. They were like family to me and every trip thereafter my wife and I were greeted by our first names as I entered the door. It was obvious he cared for his customers as each one entered he welcomed them with their first name. What a wonderful memory for facial recognition he has. We had our favorite table and have our personal coffee cups hanging on the wall behind the counter ready for our next visit. We have seen physical improvements to the place and then CALTRANS said they were chopping off his front parking lot to his porch. I helped Rick fight CALTRANS on this intent and Rick won the fight. Rick's is an unofficial historical landmark! That would have destroyed him and the restaurant. I have always found the food to be excellent and the atmosphere friendly and casual. Take your time, enjoy your food, and visit at your leisure time. I am very sorry to learn Rick has sold the restaurant but happy for him for his new retirement to be with family. It distresses me to learn his wonderful A rating has been reduced now to a B. What's up with that? There is no excuse. I'm sure the new ownership will improve to that of Rick's prior business practices heartbeat and I can resume one of my favorite restaurants again. Ed and Robin read more

Having only lived in pinon hills a few months I'm almost embarrassed how many times we've gone here, but with a home in renovation I could not ask for a better spot to grab a meal. Loved it! The Hobo Skillet was delicious! People and service excellent! Cinnamon Roll French toast was like a dessert.

Omgosh the food the service and the happy smiles are the best that you can ever ask for.

This place is clearly a town favorite. Its not my favorite, but I agree it is a good restaurant. Good service, pretty good food, and the atmosphere is friendly with people who all know each other. Everyone seems at home with each other. Food is good. Not great but it is better than average. I would come here if I were to take someone out to eat to show them a good restaurant. read more

I have been driving past this cafe for 30 years (literally) and never stopped. After reading the Yelp reviews, I decided it was time. I was not disappointed! FAST service, very friendly and attentive servers, and delicious food. The breakfast quesadilla was packed with cheese (real Cheddar, not processed), perfect eggs, plentiful Ortega chiles, and crispy bacon. It was enormous -- half came home for leftovers. I asked for half beans and half home fries -- both were homemade and yummy. My friend ordered a chili size, which was a generous serving with just about the best chili she had tasted at a restaurant. It came with cheese and raw onions, and she asked for extra -- no problem and no extra charge. Even the coffee was very good, always topped off to keep it warm. We found this place about 8 years ago, when we would use the 138 to drive to Rosamond from San Bernardino every weekend. I love it. This one place is how I gage customer service in EVERY place I know eat. I have never had a bad plate of food, nor have I ever left anything on my plate, it is just that good. Rick is always behind the counter greeting people. I remember when I hadn't stopped in in a little over a year and when I did, as I walked in the the door, Rick yells, "Hey Randy, long time, glad to see you back" wow that blew me away, to remember me after a year, and he asked about my wife and daughter. Just amazed me. It may not look like much on the outside, but by far the best comfort food I have EVER eaten. If you haven't eaten here, you have to try it. read more

Traveled 95 miles (one way) to eat breakfast here maybe 20 times now. Found this place during a long ride and have been coming back ever since. Rick is friendly, however his restaurant needs to be remodeled and food amount needs to be increased. Meal cost is kinda high for a little diner. Plates/cups/ silverware/ booths are pretty old and dingy. Maybe putting some $$ back into the restaurant might be a great idea. read more

Came here because the other cafe in Wrightwood had a 30min wait & we were very glad we did. Love a place that serves breakfast at lunch. Ordered off their lite eater menu & their biscuits with gravy if off the chart. The staff was very friendly & service was awesome. I went to visit some friends in Wrightwood and they took my wife and I to Ricks for breakfast. When we pulled up I was thinking to myself 'where are we?' The place didn't look like much from the outside but there was a wait so this could be a good sign. We were seated pretty fast and was instantly helped by one of the servers there. After the first server left with our drink order, another came up to assist us. We got our meals pretty fast and what a meal we got! I ordered the Redneck breakfast and my wife the vegetarian omelet. I could not believe the amount of food we were served. To sum up our experience: A lot of great food at a great price. The best staff and customer service I have experienced in a long time. When we left, I had to stop and ask for the manager who happened to be standing by the register. I seldom ever offer my gratitude to a location for doing what should be expected but this place (in my opinion) went above and beyond. I have already bragged about this experience to friends and I feel that anyone reading this should give this place a try. I can't imagine this being a 'one off' experience. Thank you to Ricks staff and owner. In a world of lost customer service this place takes you back to when people cared and your time and money meant something. read more

My husband and I lived in Phelan for several years and this was our go to spot every Saturday and Sunday, We make it a point to stop in any time we are back in Cali. Vegas has some really good food, but there is nothing like Rick's here. We miss you guys....so nice to see you are still going strong!
