We decided to get Ricks during the quarantine to support local businesses. Hubby was excited to get the prime rib special for the great price of $16.99. He said it was good, would have been better with a little juice on the side but you couldn't beat the price with the backed potato, steamed vegetables and bread. I decided on the triple decker club. Can't say enough about this little gem of a cafe here in high desert. The food is super yummy, large portions (easy to share), the service is superb..... let me stop there. If you ever driving by this place to mountain high or to Vegas than you should try Ricks burger. It's the best burger I have ever tried in outside of LA area. Juicy! Big! Tender! Good food and great service. Our church group meet here for breakfast every Tuesday. They have been wonderful accommodating our group, of 8 to 12, sometimes few more show up. The food is good and they let us linger for a couple of hrs. Thank you, ladies for being patient with us. read more

Yesterday, we had the opportunity to try Rick's based on Kevin's recommendation. Trust us, Rick's did not disappoint us! First of all, everyone greeted us with smiles and were very friendly. When I eat at a restaurant and it's wildly inconsistent I tend to rank them very low. My original review was very good of this place but as of this morning (and the last time I went) I have to say this place is mediocre at best to really bad. First off I have to say the young lady with glasses that serves the coffee and drinks is either on drugs or in the wrong job. When she asked us what we would like to drink we said two waters at which time she promptly sprinted from our table before we could tell her that we wanted coffee. I had to physically get up from my booth to walk to the counter to tell her that we wanted coffee. When she returned she had both coffees in one hand and was juggling the waters in the other spilling coffee all over our table. I guess she figured she didn't need to clean it and with the 2 napkins on the table we were supposed to clean "her" mess and eat with the coffee saturated napkins. Bad. I had to go out to my car to get my phone and was gone less than 30 seconds and upon reentering the café the same girl looks at me and says welcome back. Welcome back? "Hello, I'm earth have we met?" Our food came out relatively quickly and our waitress said, "is there anything else I can get you"? We said yes, we would like some Tabasco please. 5 minutes... No Tabasco (eggs getting cold). Waitress: Would you like more coffee? Us: No thank you, can we get our Tabasco please. Drug induced bus girl: Gives Tabasco to table behind us and sprints away. (Our eggs are room temp.) Us: We sit for 5 more minutes and test our eggs and omelette, (they are as cold as the snow outside) Still no Tabasco. Me: let's get the fu#! out of here. My girl leaves to the car and I stand up leaving the cold food on the table. Me again: As I exited the cafe the waitress looks at me like, where are you going? I said 10 minutes and I can't even get Tabasco? Your cold food is on the table "YOU" can have it. Good bye. Sorry Ricks, We will not be back. read more

OMG Finally stopped in to try Rick's. Best thing I have done in a while. Comfy little spot, great for breakfast. You immediately feel welcomed as you come through the door. The service is the BEST I have received, anywhere. The ladies all walk through the dining area and check on all of the tables and they are all very friendly. You would have to stay home to get better attention. Even then, you wouldn't get the level of attention you do here. The cinnamon roll french toast was over the top good. I read another review before ordering it, which was very helpful. It absolutely does not need the syrup that comes with it. Looking forward to our next visit. read more

I love this place! I like to try something different each time and I have yet to be disappointed. The portions are huge and the service is great. I always add a side of biscuits and gravy to whatever I order. They are so good! Very accommodating to dietary restrictions as well. The boyfriend and I loooove going out to breakfast on Saturday mornings....it's become a sort of tradition for us when I visit him in Wrightwood on the weekends. Rick's is wonderful! Fun atmosphere, good service, great food and coffee. The owner (who I'm assuming is Rick) was on premises and really nice. One cute thing I loved was that they have a HUGE collection of random coffee mugs that they serve you with. That was fun, to see all the different ones. They had a great selection of Mexican dishes available for breakfast that looked delicious as they were coming out to other people's tables. I can't wait to go back and try some more stuff! My only complaint is that the biscuits for the biscuits and gravy were a bit dry and stale. Overall, I'd give it a 4.5 stars. read more

Rode into town because our primary destination was closed for renovations. We choose this Rick's Roadside Cafe because it was highly rated and a cafe was ideal for lunch. Can't comment on my friend's lunch other than it looked a bit tiny, but I ordered Rick's Pastrami Angus Burger. It was very good, best restaurant burger I've had in a long time. The pastrami was juicy and spiced. The angus was tender and moist. All the condiments were thinly sliced and easy to bite through. I like that they only used the leafy portion of the lettuce. The fries were crispy and hot. I ordered a lemonade to wash all that food down. The meal was great, couldn't be happier. The service was great also. We were attended by two waitresses who kept our drinks filled and made sure that we had everything we needed. Nothing was forgotten and we were checked on how we were doing often. We were greeted coming in and thanked on the way out. I highly recommend this place if you're in town. read more

Due to the nature of my job I happen to frequent the high desert, lower deserts, I.E. And the Mountain Communities every day entitling me to discover little joints like this (work as a transfer driver in San Bernardino distributing to SB and Riverside Counties). I happened to find this spot online and it had very positive reviews. From the outside this place looks like any ordinary business out in the desert, and the reviews claimed this place to be amazing with big claims. I happened to be in the area about two miles away and lunch time approached so I stopped by. First, in the reviews, customers claimed you're greeted by either Rick himself or one of many beautiful waitresses. They are indeed, gorgeous lol, but not only that, they are also extremely nice and accommodating. They won't wait till' you run out of your drink, they will fill it up when they see you running out and they don't charge you for refills which is a plus. I had the Bacon Cheeseburger with a price tag at about $11.75 which is typical for a diner. (It comes with a side of anything from Coleslaw to Onion Rings.) I ordered the onion rings to side it. The onion rings were perfectly crisp and they tasted very rich, they weren't too slimy or too dry and we're just right. The burger was rich in cheese which is a huge plus, the bacon tender and full of flavor and the vegetables were fresh. The meal was absolutely delicious and honestly one of the best meals I've ever had. This review doesn't do the place justice so whenever you happen to be on the 138 or in the high desert make sure to stop on by. Randomly stopped by on our way home, and so happy we did! We had a group of 12 and even with their limited outdoor seating (due to COVID restrictions) they were able to accommodate us. The staff was amazing! Super friendly and attentive. Along with the amazing service, we had amazing food! All 12 people in our group were super happy and full! We stopped at this place for lunch while driving to Wrightwood for the day. It's a small cafe and was packed when we showed up. The waitresses were very nice and I could tell they had their regulars that they were chatting with. The food cake out quickly despite it being so busy and it was delicious. I got the turbo turkey sandwich with soup which was albondigas soup that day. I had never had that soup before and it was pretty good! And the sandwich was HUGE and amazing! My friend got the avocado bacon cheeseburger which was good. She got onion rings as a side and they were breaded like fish and chips which was different but really good! Used to come here a few times a month, mostly for breakfast but since Rick passed, have not been back. COVID prevented a lot of customers from enjoying a nice sit down breakfast with friends, and I'm sure even this landmark cafe suffered. There are only a few tables inside the quaint place, dotted with antiques here and there that reminded you of what was around the area back then. The coffee mugs hanging behind the counter makes you wonder, whether Rick hands his old customers the mug they keep there, or if the staff brought theirs from home.
