Rico's is a smaller restaurant with a diner kind of vibe and has about 20-30 tables/booths. They also have a bar with food service. For those of you who pick your restaurants based on pop, they serve Coke and Northwoods. The menu is expansive ranging from appetizers, boasted chicken, a salad bar, Mexican, burgers/sandwiches and pizza. I did not upload pics of the menu bc their entire menu is available on their website. The staff is friendly and attentive. We arrived and every table in the place was full but was still seated within 15 mins. The food came out quickly after ordering. We got the garlic cheese bread as an appetizer, and the Broasted Chicken and a Small Pepperoni Pan Pizza as entrees. Everything was delicious and incredibly reasonably priced for the portions. Ambience inside is a little dated and while the tables/floors are clean, the decor on the walls could use some attention. After a long drive into Traverse City for a weekend getaway, my family and I were starving and in desperate need of a good meal. We stumbled upon Rico's--one of the few places still open late--and decided to give it a try. We're so glad we did! The food was delicious. My husband and I really enjoyed our meals--everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and satisfying after hours on the road. Some of our family had mixed opinions, but overall, everyone found something they liked. What really stood out was the friendly and welcoming staff. Even though it was late, they were kind, patient, and made us feel right at home. If I'm ever back in Traverse City, I'd definitely order from Rico's again. We were in traverse city for a few days and we were able to eat there twice! First trip was pizza and beer! Great food and the beer was served in a cold mug 25oz. The second trip was the white fish served on a plank. Delicious The other dish was b roasted chicken dinner, salad bar, tortilla soup (homemade), and cobbler for dessert! We sat down for breakfast, got our drinks and watched as the server "Maddie" avoided eye contact and bypassed us instead of taking our order more than a couple of times. Willing to let that go and after much waiting, we waited to have our order taken only to have Maddie take the order for the people who came in long after us, who didn't even have their drinks yet, who were sitting right behind us. I hesitate to explain how much we love Rico's, because it's already a well-known and well-loved restaurant. Their food is fantastic, their servers bustle with smiles and courtesy through the crowded dining room, and they serve breakfast late enough that we can go after church and be assured that their unforgettable stuffed hash browns are still on the menu! Although it's rare to see an empty table, the atmosphere is peaceful, with good jams going in the background. Rico's values veterans, good food for a great price, and no shortcuts taken on the menu items or cocktails. There might be a wait, but you'll be glad you were patient! read more

This is a pretty common stop when in the area never had a bad meal with decent portions of food. Service has always been above par.

My dad and I joined some family friends here for dinner a few weeks back. It was bittersweet w/ out my momma there as she was our big German food lover (she lived there as a young adult '61-'65, in Bonn). I had potato pancakes, I love the spaetzli too, but I was a potato in another life and my body is like 50% potato at this point. My dad had either pork or beef, as I said it was awhile ago, lol. Our friends headed back to Oklahoma, snowbird life, but we had this last hurrah. Rico"s is apparently for sale. Get out and support them. They almost always do free meals for Veteran's on either Veteran's and/ or Memorial Day. Any business that cares that much for community members who served deserves my business, toodles. read more

First time visiting Rico's and we will definitely be back! Trish was our server and she was friendly and so informative. She went over the menu choices and explained the monthly specials being offered. Rico's is a very welcoming place. Very obvious that locals enjoy it as well. Very quaint setting, relaxing. Located right off US 31, Rico's is a small restaurant that has a great small town feel. Walking in, the entire place is small but full of delicious smells from the kitchen. Servers & staff are friendly & I was greeted warmly when I walked up to the bar for our pick up order. Our pizza was flavorful, the red sauce just right & we loved the option of adding broccoli that added a slightly charred flavor to go well with the cheese. The crust was the right amount of crisp & chewy too. Overall a really nice place to stop for lunch & dinner that's not part of the main drag of Traverse City. Sad to see the decline of a once-awesome local restaurant post-Covid. Gone is the salad and soup bar, gone is the amazing Mac and cheese. Ordering anything but burgers, pizza and broasted chicken will guarantee disappointment. My turkey reuben sandwich was 60% bread, 30% too-sweet kraut and maybe 20% deli turkey for $17 with too-salty potato chips. The coffee was brown water with barely any coffee flavor. The service was as pleasant as always but the decline in food quality over the past few months and years makes me want to give up dining at this local eatery. read more

Wow! I finally stopped at Rico's for lunch. The atmosphere is friendly and inviting. The restaurant and restroom were clean. The waitstaff was friendly. I ordered the Italian grinder. It was truly delicious. Every item in the sandwich was fresh and the bread was baked in house. The appetizer chicken tenders looked and tasted freshly made in house. Haven't been there in a while--maybe new owners?? Food wasn't anywhere like what it used to be. Ribs were tough and flat like they were prefab, and garlic bread was cold. While we enjoy their pizza when fully cooked, our last few we ordered, the past few months, the dough was not cooked enough, had that "gum line"...not sure why it happens, as we ask for well done and it is brown, so I am guessing their dough is cold from the fridge when they start making the pizza...or too much water in the sauce, or the oven isn't preheated long enough. IDK, but we won't be ordering again. My husband doesn't like to complain or send food back. I wonder if other customers find this uncooked pizza dough not good? It's not healthy to consume raw pizza dough. I hope the business reads this so there can be improvement, as we do like their pizzas, when cooked through. It was good for a small diner type restaurant. I ordered the House Burger and my bf got the Pollock fish special. My cheese burger was good but I'd prefer a handmade verses a pre-made patty. I liked the fries, crispy and hot. My bf really liked his meal and breading was crisp and had a good flavor. Overall I've had better food but it was fine for what it was - a small restaurant in the middle if nowhere. They seem to have an extensive breakfast menu so maybe we'll give that a try if we come back to town. read more

I left Traverse area to follow ministry..we used to frequent Rick's a lot! Why? Great food, good prices..and Rick offered deals to Vets on Vetran's day. Locals poured in tonight And that is a good sign of good food and good service..My friends lasagna was delicious, and my French dip was a huge serving of roast beef on a chiabata bun...it was delicious..It's good to visit my home, and to visit Ricks! This was the closest pizza place to where we were staying at Bass Lake outside Traverse City. We ordered original crust pizza and salad for carryout. Staff was friendly and efficient on the phone and at pick up, and our order was ready when promised. Pizza was good, but I would not call Rico's an Italian restaurant. They have all kinds of sandwiches, burgers, wraps, non-Italian dinner entrees, and even Mexican food. We may try them again before leaving the area. read more

Got pizza here last week after swimming with my family. Workers were friendly and the pizza was the best I've had in Traverse City.

Don't judge this book by its cover. The place is a little rough around the edges but.... Once you get ahold of the home cooked meals they do so well, all the roughness fades away . I've been here twice in 2 years and it's been great both times. I wish I had the money to buy this place and move it to a hipper area and a more updated look, I would make a mint. From the fried chicken to the shredded pork dinner to the fish and chips it all screams moms kitchen . Reasonable prices and hearty portions make this a hidden Gem.
