I want to start by saying I'm biased towards this place because it has been in my family for several generations! But, despite that, it does have objectively great food and has stayed open all this time because it's doing things right! We always get the lake perch specials in the summer and it's cooked perfectly and so delicious. It is always crowded in the summer and the service is excellent. It has all the wonderful perks of a small town restaurant and all of the great vibes of a lodge style restaurant. There's a great bar and lots of seating inside and outside. This is absolutely a must if you are in the Lake Leelanau area. Great food, great service and lots of fun on karaoke night. Dick's is never going to disappoint! read more

This is the perfect up north Michigan bar. This is an absolutely wonderful northern Michigan gem. . If you're anywhere nearby, definitely give it a try. Then you can go across the street and get a glass of wine at the boathouse vineyard with a lovely view of the river. read more

We stopped in with friends for dinner on a Saturday afternoon. When we entered, over half the tables were empty, so we headed for a larger table with six chairs. Our friends are both fairly big. The staffer came immediately and told us we couldn't sit at the table we choose, because they could get busy later. Just had my first 2 visits to Dick's PH. It's a small town fish, sandwich, and pizza place. Relaxed informal and convivial as the name suggests. Not a fern bar, couple deer heads on the wall. Family oriented. Low key TVs have sports not politics which I prefer. Visit one , I had the the Ruben (+ dressing came on the side). My wife had a perch sandwich and we split a Caesar salad. Reuben was very good with generous portions and the Rye was not soggy. Wife's perch was very good fresh perch. If you like perch, which I do, you will like the perch here. The Caesar was freshly tossed with what tasted like homemade dressing (good lemon garlic balance). Liked DPH well enough to return the next night. Visit 2. They were crowded (Saturday night but only about 10min to get seated). I was alone so I decided to eat at the bar. Asked the Bartender if he had a preferred spot for me and he said where ever I liked was fine. Got a menu and a water and I checked out the beer taps which ran from Bud to Craft (6 I think). I ordered the Bacon and Blue burger w chips and a Caesar because I was hungry. The Caesar is one size , large which will be fine for 2 if you're getting something else. Dressing was again very good and lettuce crisp and fresh. It also came with extra dressing the side and a generous helping of croutons.The burger (cooked to order) came as requested with generous Blue and well cooked thicker bacon. Chips tasted homemade with some tooth to them. The bartender filled my water 4 times with no fuss when it got low and didn't push the drinks. I actually would recommend sitting at the bar. A nice couple sat down next to me and it was nice to talk with them over dinner. One of the owners (3rd generation) was having dinner at the bar also and we chatted. A smart, sensible and nice guy. As I was chatting this dinner took about 1:45 and I never felt like I was holding up the show. Very relaxed. The place has been in the same family for over 90 years. They know how to do it. Serving staff was aways very pleasant and got the job done. I saw that a couple reviewers had some problems with the wait staff. I was kind scoping the place and saw only pleasant and courteous customers and staff when I was there. My ratings are based upon how happy I am to eat in a place. How much I am asked to pay affects my expectations. read more

This is the quintessential "up north" experience. Huge portions, great beers, and friendly staff. Having grown up in Michigan, I love a good "ranch salad", and the one here delivers! We were the only patrons on a Wednesday for lunch ... not a good sign. We both ordered the perch basket; one with onion rings, one with fries. The perch was nearly inedible as it tasted like old fry oil and too much salt. It was very fishy and oily! The onion rings were over cooked but okay. The fries were pretty good! The waitress was very friendly but seemed ... tired and apathetic. The outdoor seating was clean and comfortable. And all of this for $70 with the tip. UNBELIEVABLE... won't be back. read more

Worst service I've ever had, slow and very rude. had to ask for napkins and then had them thrown at us. Food was over cooked and almost burnt. Charged $6 for a glass of water with my meal. Do yourself a favor and find a different place to go. read more

Great little place! My bf and I sat at the bar, and the bartender was so friendly and helpful! There were locals around us who were also friendly and chatted about various things. This is definitely your lake community hole in the wall. It's the only restaurant in town! I was super worried about not being able to get a spot seeing as this was our third stop of the evening looking for dinner without an hour wait. Luckily we were able to get seated fairly quickly! I had to bring the other half the sandwich home to our dog. She loved it. My spouse ordered a hamburger covered in barbecue sauce. It was a heart attack waiting to happen. He loved it. You would not expect this place to be good. It's just a little bar, deer on the wall and the local bar fly sitting at the end of the bar.... But let me tell you, this is a well kept secret. Let me set the scene for you... I'm out with my parents and some friends, down at HopLot for a couple of good brews when one of our friends says "Hey, are you guys down for a perch dinner?" Being avid fish lovers, we obliged and he even said "Let me call and make sure we can get in". At this point, I'm thinking it's a fancy place... and I'm dressed in a pair of jeans, a hoodie, and a hat because I had been skiing all week, and my hair was... . Anyway, he calls and turns out they can seat us, so we make the snowy trip over there. You can imagine my surprise when we got there and it was not fancy... but I'm really not the type to judge a place on that sort of thing. We head in and the first thing I need to do is use the bathroom... now, I'm in a wheelchair, so skinny doors and small bathrooms are a no-go for me. As soon as I even LOOK at the skinny, western saloon type doors, one of the employees comes up and says "Yeah, you won't make it in there, the one in the kitchen is WAY bigger if you'd like." Hesitant, I took the offer. Yes, the kitchen! The ratty looking, snow covered patron was told he could use the kitchen bathroom (don't worry, I went no where near the food, I was NOT a health violation). That is the hospitality I love from restaurants. Now the food. Now I know I talked up this fish dinner, but the pulled pork sandwich is what personally caught my eye, claiming you get a choice of 4 different sauces. I ordered it, my parents and friends ordered there food.... And the waitress started to walk away. I politely got her attention and asked her if I got to choose my sauce, to which she replied "Honey, I'm just going to bring all 4 out to you." My eyes of course lit up! This waitress brings me this beautiful and big pulled pork sandwich with FULL bottles of 4 different sauces (Kansas City BBQ, South Carolina BBQ, Sweet Baby Rays, and there own house sauce). Personally I recommend the house sauce since they were all good choices, but you always gotta go with the sauce they make. But don't worry if you don't like it, every bite you could change up the sauce, mix and match, or whatever you'd like to do. The pork itself was tender and juicy, 10/10, would order again. As for the fish dinner, my parents were not disappointed, I just can't speak on it much since I didn't order it. This little bar is a MUST if you're in the area. read more

Since we were staying at a cottage just down the road, we had dinner at Dick's twice. Both times, Jenny waited on us, and she was outstanding. Friendly and efficient, she made our visits fun, and we highly recommend the Friday fish fry - the chocolate cream pie afterward made the meal complete! See you next year! read more

This is a good, basic, old school bar: the kind the locals go to, and don't want tourists to know about. The burgers in particular are true "bar burgers": really good beef with the taste of the grill on them. One thing: the cook grills them to highlight the flavor of the beef; but as a result, they're slightly rarer than what some people expect. Medium, for instance, will be fully cooked, charred on the outside, but look fairly rare at the center. That's not the "medium" many people expect. So if you're new to the place and want "medium", consider asking for "medium well. read more

Everything we've ever ordered has been very good. It's become our go-to pizza place. Also good? The salads, homemade salad dressing, sandwiches, prime rib, clam chowder, chili... You can't go wrong with DPH food. Where one might get their panties in a bunch - as have I - is with service. It can be frustrating. And uncomfortable. And at times, better. Overall, the food (and getting used to what to expect) overrides any service issues that may exist. We were not impressed with our recent take-out order. We ordered from Dicks upon recommendation from the wine-tasting room next door. $9 for a BLT that had two strips of bacon on it. The wings were good, but we were disappointed that we didn't receive the BBQ sauce we asked for. However, the beef vegetable soup was very good and had lots of pieces of tender beef roast.
