This is the best Shop I have found in the Prospect Park area. Selection and diversity are outstanding, even compared to a large corporate store like EMS. Prices are competitive. Most inexpensive tune up in the area (at least during their fall special). I have not bought a bike, so I cannot speak to these prices, but their gear is not overpriced and they have clearance sales. Staff is friendly and knowledgable. I have not gotten any hints of hipster-superiority complex from anyone; so keep it up! Great local shop with some fun cafes and a book store nearby. Great store. Great selection reasonably priced but it is the service that makes the difference. I am not an experienced cyclist and every time I've been treated with just the right amount of "you might not know this but . . ." or "you might also want to consider this . . ." Not overbearing but informative and helpful. I had them tune up my bike last week and I returned today thinking that they had overlooked one problem - trueing the front wheel. Of course, they hadn't - the problem with one of the front brake shoes rubbing the wheel was my fault and not theirs. But still they fixed it right away, for free, and the guy who did it, Casey, couldn't have been nicer about it. This is the place to bring your bike in the Slope. read more

Strongly recommend this shop. Fair prices, excellent service. The mechanics there are very knowledgeable. I went in one week for a tune up and returned the following week for some fine tuning which they did for free. Pete is really helpful with finding the right products and Minori is a wizard with a wrench. After having attempted to deal with R&A, pretty much any bike shop (or for that matter, hominid) would have seemed angelic by comparison, but even among the friendly & helpful categories these guys stand out. You might have to wait to get some attention on a bustling weekend afternoon, but that's because they'll actually take their time to answer every stupid noob question (please don't ask me how I know this) without ever talking down to you or trying to cheat or upsell you. I can't rave about this place enough, I've bought both my kids bikes there, and most recently I needed to invest in a new road bike for myself. So I did start at another shop on 5th ave in Park Slope because they were the TREK dealer for NYC, but after spending 15 minutes in the shop no one wanted to lift up from there smartphones to help anyone out, and when I requested some help they kind of still shunned me off. So I headed over to Ride Brooklyn the next day, and was warmly greeted walking in, and Michael jumped right in to help me out. He did immediately tell me anything for my needs would need to be ordered. He also didn't press any of the heavy expensive stuff on me, so I really respected him for that. Only one blip, as it was supposed to take 5 - 7 days to get the bike delivered, so I called on day 8, and found out the bike had not shipped yet. But Daryl the manager jumped in and bent over backwards to find the same bike at a shop in Jersey and expedited it in. So pick up day, I show up and Andrew was working and totally took time out to get me set up on the new bike. oh yea, and the repair team is awesome also, as the need for a new bike was because my 20 year old TREK was showing its age but, they have that bike now also running like brand new ... This is a great shop! I bought a new bike from bikesdirect.com and wanted to have the handlebars and pedals swapped out for something more casual-rider-friendly so I called Ride Brooklyn to ask if they could do it. The guy I spoke to on the phone was really friendly and helpful, answered all my questions and told me I could bring the bike in any time. When I got there, he was kind enough to walk me around the shop and help me pick out new parts for my bike that would be best for me, remaining totally friendly, helpful, and patient the entire time. It was so refreshing to have such a positive service experience, especially in a bike shop, since so many are reputed to be super snobby and rude. AND he was helping me with a bike that I didn't even purchase in their store. I dropped my bike off in the back for the mechanics (I decided to get a tune-up too for $49) who were also really attentive and asked if I needed any assistance. So, yeah. I was gifted a bike and was advised to get a professional firing. I'm like "A what? Why would I need that?". Oh how naive I was. I rode this bike for a week before finally recognizing that something sinply wasn't right. I signed up for the firing and voila!! It was an entirely new bike. I went from trodding down the rode, straining my knees and ankles with each pedal, to gliding through the park like a hot knife through butter after the fitting. When was the last time you heard the words "are you being helped?" in a bike shop? Well I heard it over and over here. The solved my problem with persistent flats (cut sidewall from riding on a low tire) and found me a bunch of new tires to choose from and readjusted my rear breaks. But the real shining was done while I waited. I watched them rent out a few bikes, help a little girl find a bike that wasn't too girly, fix a skateboard, and say "are you being helped?" and "I will be right with you" countless times. When you take your bike in for work, normal legit bike shops write up an order that itemizes everything before you leave them your bike. This place will take your bike in for service and not write up a receipt of costs for services and parts before you leave. When you come back, they are charging your for work and parts you did not request and labor costs that are ridiculous. I was charged 10 dollars for someone to take off the hand grips and slide in new one in in less than 2 minutes (which I witnessed). Overpriced and dishonest practices! read more

Went in with flats, with my never-tuned-up fixie. Grabbing my bike promptly, the older mechanic also did necessary alignments, pumped tyres to ideal pressure, and even installed & adjusted the emergency front-brake (the bike being a fixie i had been neglecting the latter) and saw to it that i was only charged for the tubes and labor for changing tubes, viz. around 25 $ (even though installing & adjusting a brake alone is a lot more labor than what I was charged for ). I ended up buying an extra-security chain and consumables, which were also quite reasonably priced. I'm grateful and def coming back. read more

Pros: Near a lot of trains, lots of bike rental options. Cons: Expensive and poor service. Traveled 40 minutes to get here, ready to rent a bike. I knew the prices and just needed to find an associate to assist me. The place seemed understaffed. I waited and waited and finally a man showed me to the tablet to check out a bike. I wanted to pay in cash but this seemed to be a problem. I questioned why a credit card was needed and expressed that I found that odd. The white bearded man, dirty blond hair, commented to another customer his contempt for assisting me. In the end, I decided not to spend the $40 on the bike rental and go elsewhere where customer service is taken seriously. read more

I had accidentally booked one of my family's bikes for the wrong day and the young Asian staff member (sorry I didn't catch your name) was super helpful getting it straightened out. He took time to go over our family route plans and made some great recommendations for my solo excursion into Manhattan. As a newbie biker, I felt a little intimidated going in to Ride Brooklyn. Once I got inside, I relaxed a bit. The atmosphere there does that to you. For you runners, it's basically like the biking version of JackRabbit. I didn't catch the guy's name who helped me, but he was super helpful. I told him I didn't want to spend too much, and he immediately started showing me the best options on the lower end of pricing. After a test ride and deciding on a bike, he started showing me accessories (helmet, lights, locks) also within my price range. He was helpful, knowledgeable, but not pushy, and definitely never tried to upsell. I was nervous that this was going to be the kind of place filled with biking snobs who try to push top of the line stuff and talk only in technical biking terms, but it was the total opposite, and I'm really happy I decided to come here. read more

Brought my old Schwinn into the shop for a new tire and a replacement seat. The front fork was loose and I was going to ask for that to be repaired also. The the service rep fixed the loose fork while I was explaining what the problem was in a matter of 10 seconds (loose nut), of course at no extra charge. I also like that he didn't try and upsell at all for a more expensive bike seat. Very reasonably priced despite being surrounded by a some hardcore and expensive bike arrays. I just bought a new bike and decided that one ride to work without a helmet was more than enough for me. While I bought my bike at Bespoke Bicycles (who are rad guys as well), their helmet selection was limited and in the $65+ range. I work just around the corner from Ride Brooklyn, so I decided to pop in and pick up some of the necessities I'd skimped on before. They have a decent selection of helmets with a ride price range (with the cheapest at the time being around $30, with the upper end running $130+). The guy behind the counter was friendly and helpful without being overbearing, and had good knowledge of the stock. I didn't have too many questions, but I like when I ask if a shop has a certain variable of an item, the staff can answer yes or no fairly confidently. Since the sun falls out of the sky completely by late afternoon these days, I decided it was prudent to pick up some lights while I was at it. The same gentleman showed me a few of the options, and when I asked for a product that he thought was a happy medium of quality and price, he showed me a set of Knog strobe lights that were exactly what I needed. I didn't feel pressured or up-sold on anything I didn't need, which is super important to me as a baby biker. I won't be taking my bike here for repairs, but the only reason for that is because Bespoke has a warranty on any bikes they sell. I'm very happy knowing that I now have a trustworthy shop for my biking needs close to work, as well as close to home. read more

If Dixon's is the affable but slow moving grandfather of Park Slope bike shops, and R&A is the sullen, cranky uncle, then Ride Brooklyn is the hip younger brother. The shop is bright, clean, and inviting, tucked away just south of Atlantic Avenue, and the staff seemed friendly and patient when I stopped in the other day. Prices are fairly standard (MSRPish), which is nice considering how far some of the specialty shops in the City try to jack theirs up (ahem, Trackstar). It has a decently wide selection, though its schizophrenic business model (bikes, skateboards, and I think I even spied some snowboarding gear) means that they may not have everything you're searching for. One definite plus of the place, though, is the staff. Even though they didn't have the specific tire I was looking for, they offered to take my name and number down and look up how much it would be to order it for me. The presence of fixie gear leads me to believe that the place will do bustling business once word gets out that a new trade outpost has opened up along The Great Hipster Silk Route that stretches from Williamsburg to Red Hook, so here's to hoping the Ride Brooklyn stays in business and can become my regular neighborhood shop. read more

Totally scammed me on an online purchase and awful customer service. Got a great deal closeout 2-year old helmet model they had in stock in one color and size. They took my money, sent me a confirmation, and then a day later said that they didn't want to sell it to me because it shouldn't have been that price, but that I could pay them more than 5x what it was advertised for if I still wanted it!
