I looked under the car and could see a piece of exhaust pipe hanging down. Luckily, I was near a muffler shop in Newton and they agreed to take a look. They told me my muffler had blown-out and that the rear pipe was badly damaged, and it would cost about $450 to repair it. They said they had the parts and would be finished in two to three hours. I decided to take it to another muffler shop I had taken cars to in the past. On the way, I stopped at a gas station, explained my problem, and asked if they could tie-up the exhaust pipe that was hanging down so I could get to the muffler shop without further damaging the system. The guy told me they just sold gas but there was a separate garage attached to the station and they might make a temporary fix for me. The guy in the garage, Jim, said he would see what he could do after he finished working on the car on the lift, which might take an hour. I decided to wait. After about 30 minutes, he put my car up on the lift to look at it. He came into the very small waiting room and said, "You're lucky. Your exhaust pipe isn't damaged, it just needs a new sleeve." When I asked what a sleeve was, he said, "I think I have one in stock; if I do I'll show it to you." He did. indeed, have one. It was a 6-inch tube with a clamp and bolt on either end. He explained that my sleeve had rusted out but that the two pipes it connected looked ok. He said, "I won't know until I take the old sleeve off and can see if the pipes are damaged but, in 90 percent of the cases, we just have to replace the sleeve. I asked what it would cost and he said, "I don't think it will be more than $100." Not quite believing that we wouldn't have some costly complications, I told him to go ahead. He finished the job in about 25 minutes and the car was perfect. I was amazed and very, very pleased. The final bill was under $80, another pleasant surprise. I will recommend Quinlan's, and Jim in particular, to any of my friends who need auto repairs. The only thing I'm unhappy about is that it took me so long to find him.

I brought my older BMW into Haskins for service and an estimate after being rear ended. They quickly provided a detailed estimate and ran through a few alternatives that I could think about, but sadly my insurance company determined that the car was a total loss and gave me the option of a payout for the value of the car. After agreeing to the amount, my insurance company tried to reduce the settlement and pay me considerably less. The people at Haskins were not obligated to help me negotiate with my insurance company (they were being paid their full amount regardless), but they went over and above and fought for me. They convinced my insurance company that what they were doing was not right, and I was paid every dollar I was promised! I could not have had a better outcome. I would recommend Haskins and their people to anyone (especially local Wellesley/Weston neighbors) needing automotive help. We are lucky to have this shop in town!!

I brought in my older model Lincoln sedan for an intermittent battery indicator light and a sudden noisy engine. I picked Larry Ng for the location, the reviews, and the fact they were open on Saturdays. I dropped the car off Friday afternoon. Before they closed on Friday Donna texted me that tehy had already diagnosed the noisy engine as a loose exhaust bracket that just needed new bolts. By Saturday morning Donna texted again that the car would need a replacement alternator. Everything was fixed by end of the day on Saturday. Since I wasn't able to pick it up right away, Donna offered to meet me there on Sunday -- even though they were closed!! I have never had this level of personalized service from a mechanic. The rates were very reasonable and they have made a customer for life!

NAC charged us around 4 hours of labor to reconnect a wire that goes to a temperature sensor, claiming the wire was chewed by an animal. Once we started driving upon picking up the car - which was supposed to be repaired, we noticed the Check Engine light was still on. We thought NAC must have forgotten to reset the car computer after fixing the broken wire. We weren't worried because NAC told us there is an one year warranty, and we didn't have a chance to go back there immediately due to the holiday season. We didn't plan to use the car much anyway. We brought the car back in January. NAC claimed that it was the same exact wire that was chewed again by an animal, and this time charged us near 2 hours of labor, and changed the wire connector. It is noticeable that they didn't change the wire connector the first time. Their claim about animal chewing the wire is extremely bizarre, because the car has been parked on the driveway of a house in an affluent Boston suburb neighborhood, in December-January where outdoor animal activities are limited due to the cold weather. When we complained about the charge for the second repair - which should be under warranty, they don't recognize that they didn't properly fix the wiring issue the first time. Instead, we were accused of lying about the Check Engine light never being turned off. We are concerned about Natick Auto Clinic's commitment to quality workmanship and honesty in business practice.
