RE: Service Dept & Sales Dept If we could give a negative number we would. A few months ago we received a notice of factory recall due to a cylinder problem. We called immediately to schedule an appt and were told that they would need the car for a week, so we asked for a loaner, and were initially told no, but upon pursuing the issue were told, OK, but to call back in a month. A month later we were told that they didn't have any loaners but that they would put us on a list. A month later, still no movement, so a few weeks after that decided that we would drop the car off while on vacation, and were told that we could pick it up that Friday. While on vacation we received a message to call them and immediately called and left a message. Two days later still no return call. After numerous calls on our part we reached someone who stated that car would not be ready until the following Monday as corporate had to approve paper work. Monday we were told car would be ready Tuesday. Tuesday we were told that the car would be ready Wednesday. We still don't have the car. These extensions were all done through messages, not a courtesy phone call and no explanation. Of course never an apology. Wellesley VW how are going to compensate us for all the aggravation, time spent chasing you and without our vehicle? We have since researched the issue and it appears that VW knew of the problem when they sold us the car. Now we have not only a problem with the service dept but with the sales dept as well. I was shopping for a used Volkswagen online and came across a 2024 Tiguan SE at Wellesley Volkswagen. Eric Tonkonogy was our salesman and he let me know that the Tiguan that I was interested in had sold earlier that day. However, they had a 2023 Tiguan SEL R-Line with low mileage that hadn't gone online yet. Eric took us out for a test drive and told us all about the additional features. After going over the pricing, I wanted to go home and think about it and he didn't pressure me at all. I decided to purchase it the next day and made arrangements. On the day of the sale the SUV was ready and Eli helped me with all the financing. I would've given this review five stars, but upon pick up my husband noticed some nicks on the rear bumper that wasn't disclosed to us, plus an item was forgotten about and I had to drive back to the dealership today to get it. I recently brought my 2015 VW Passat TDI to this dealership for a service appointment and was blatantly scammed. The car had a parasitic battery drain (meaning the battery would die overnight) but otherwise ran perfectly and showed no error codes. I had just replaced the battery less than two weeks prior, but Karl, who checked in my car, dismissed that information and said they'd start the scheduled one-hour diagnostic by checking the battery anyway. A few hours later, Karl called to confirm the battery was fine (as I had told him) but said they still could not identify the issue and needed at least two more hours to investigate. I agreed, asking only that they find the source of the drain. Later that afternoon, he called back and told me, "There's just so much wrong with the car, I'll need to get an engineer involved," and that I wouldn't hear back until after the weekend. At that point, I became suspicious. On Monday, I called for an update. Karl immediately got defensive, rattled off a laundry list of supposed issues, and gave me an estimated quote of between $9,000-$12,000 in repairs. He then suggested I trade in the car and told me he'd "be happy to sell me a new one." When I asked whether they had found the cause of the battery drain, the one and only thing I came in for, I was told the car had "too many issues" to determine that. I was then handed a $550 bill for three hours of diagnostic time. As a mechanical engineer, I know enough about my car to recognize I was being scammed. I paid the bill, got a second opinion, and within hours, discovered the issue was the radio. I removed it that same day, and two weeks later, the car is still running perfectly. The $9-12k in supposed issues do not exist. Whether this treatment was because I'm young, a woman, or just standard practice for this dealership, I can't say, but either way this was a dishonest and predatory experience. The worst customer service that I have had in my 50 years of owning cars. Service manager is rude and talks down to you (even if you spend $5K for an extended warranty). It is amazing to me how mismanaged this is (not sure if it is this location only or all VWs) but this location takes advantage of folks who do not understand cars. And the VW product is not THAT amazing!! If this was a BMW or Mercedes dealer and it was a superior product that charged a premium, maybe I would expect some attitude and superiority that you would "have to" live with. Life right? But this place sells a very average product and gives you a side of crappy crappy crappy service and BS along with it. I would never recommend to my worst enemy. Want a headache?
