The food and service were excellent. Definitely the best meal we've had so far in Amsterdam. Highly recommended

Wow, what a fantastic lunch we had at Rijks, next to museum. Wonderful service and phenomenal food. A must when in Amsterdam!

Amazing tasting menu!!!!

Service was great and this started upon entry as the friendly and professional hosted welcomed us in as we strolled to our seats to Dr Dre. Great vibe and exuberant ambiance. The food was expertly prepared and plated. Our kitchen view seats were like theatre. Staff checked on us frequently and made sure we were thoroughly delighted. The price was very very fair!!!! What, you're not there yet? What are you waiting for?? Seriously. Top 5 dining experience of my life.

Ambiance was casual, cozy, food is good, yet paid almost 10 euros for a French breakfast that came with a small croissant, a glass of orange juice, half mandarin, some jams and a few sprinkles of pomegranates. Don't get me wrong, the food design was beautiful and appetizing, juice fresh, food quality fine. But it is pricey. The hostess was friendly, sweet, warm and accommodating, fitting her post well. She is one of the best hostesses out of all museum cafes we've visited. We enjoyed our dining experience.

Great Michelin experience for a reasonable price! We were in Amsterdam for New Year's Eve and were lucky to find a reservation at Rijks for their New Year's Eve menu. They were only open for Dunner (in between lunch and dinner) so we ended up getting a reservation for 3:30pm. The restaurant itself is right next to the Rijksmuseum and Museumplein, making it a great location. The prix fixe menu start with warm and a truffle whipped butter. So delicious we had to be careful not to fill up on bread! Then we had a sweet potato and caviar appetizer which we enjoyed but the hard texture of the sweet potatoes were a bit odd. Next we had lobster done 2 ways which was fantastic! The lobster was so succulent and the flavors were bold. This was our favorite course. Finally for our entree we had beef Wellington sliced table side. The portion was very generous and we were definitely super full afterwards. Of course we weren't done and got a dessert box to end which a variety of small chocolates and confections. We were absolutely stuffed by this point but the desserts were a great ending to the meal. Overall we loved the food and definitely thought it was a worthwhile 1 Michelin experience.

Had a nice group dinner here while in a town a few weeks ago. Espresso martinis were delicious, as was all the food. The beet dish was the star of the show IMO, I've never had beets transformed in that way. The service was also very attentive all night.

I may have reviewed this in May of 2017. It's spectacular having just received a Michelin star. We had the seven course tasting menu, each paired with a different wine. We sat at the chefs bar, which is always a treat. We realized that the amount of labor that went into prep and presentation of each dish was absolutely mind boggling. Some of the highlights were the red cabbage gazpacho, a swed goat cheese dish and the main course of aged beef with spicy salsa and separate mint sauce. The 2 dessert courses were equally spectacular. Like most great tasting menus, we left feeling perfectly full but not overstuffed like holiday birds. The wine choices were incredibly eclectic and tasty; I had only heard of half of the ten or so we tried. Not a place most could afford to eat regularly, but a super treat for us on a dreary evening in Amsterdam. "Rijks" is located next to the famous museum of the same name, but is independently owned and operated.

Wow! We saw this place after walking around 'I Amsterdam' sign. It's a bit upscale, price-wise. However, it's not one of those fancy restaurants with unusual ingredient combinations that are just too weird. Everything was a bit exotic and yet familiar. Definitely worth every euro. Be warned about ordering ribeye, they bring it out raw to you, table-side, so you can decide between 4 weeks or 8 weeks. I didn't like having to be subjected to it. But my companion ordered it.

So I had no idea that this was a Michelin star restaurant as the price is too affordable for such a level! But I'm not complaining, just pleasantly surprised! We had a seven course dinner, with an amuse bouche to start. There was a champagne pairing as well, which I believe we had 5 of. As expected of any Michelin star restaurant, the setting, decor, presentation, service, and of course, flavors were all exceptional. The service could've slowed down on the pacing just a tad so that we can spend a little more time savoring our food and drinks. We enjoyed every dish served especially that guinea fowl which was moist an flavorful, the accompanying fried skin was perfectly crispy and salty, and the oyster and vinaigrette was heavenly. My husband and I are not beets people, but dang, that "thousand" (or was it "hundred") layer beet was so good we might be converts.

This was undoubtedly the most unique meal concept that I've ever had! This locations is not only a National Museum but it's also a 5-Star Restaurant. It started out with Veal Sweetbread Ceviche. This was very tasty. Course 2 was Brussel Sprouts with Curry...not a fan but still different. Round 3 was Fillet of a Turbot (best course of the meal for me) with 4 being Roasted Hare Fillet. The last 2 were Pear Frangipane & Eu Bush. As said my most unique meal!

This is a Michelin one star restaurant, so for the people complaining about prices... go to Mickey D's. The food was excellent... But small plates. My wife had two dishes that she was very happy with. My grandson had a steak. I had their 5 dish tasting menu. The food was very good... an experience. My only complaint was that the service was on the slow side. Not what I would expect from a Michelin rated Restaurant

If you are sharing a meal with someone, get items from a different prix-fixe menu and you can both try a variety of items. We enjoyed: * Charcuterie plate: sausages taste minimally processed and delicious * Beef and onion stew: taste slightly different than ones in America * Cauliflower and cheese oven bake: vegetarian's comfort food * Hutspot (mashed potatoes and carrots) and meatballs: non-vegetarian's comfort food * Pea soup with smoked ham For desserts, we had chocolate mousse and vlaflip (vanilla custard) and they were just okay. I'm not sure if desserts are the Dutch's strengths, except maybe the Dutch apple pie. They even bottle their own house beer. The restaurant is small. Try to make a reservation if you can. We didn't have a reservation, but went to the restaurant at around 5PM and were seated in about 15 minutes. At times, the line could get very long, but the staff is still welcoming and ensures that everyone gets served...eventually.

Portions are substantial and a very good value in a neighborhood where tourist-markups are the norm. They have a/c, but in order to feel it you'll need to sit closer to the back of the restaurant/near the kitchen, as there is only one wall unit back there, and they leave the front of the restaurant open to the elements (even in 98+ degree heat).

Great spot for dinner!…read more This place is giving dive bar in so many ways, but the food quality is stepped up. It was very warm in the place, so keep that in mind if you're traveling in Amsterdam during a heat dome! We had a couple servers who worked with us nd both were kind and friendly. They didn't quite communicate with each other about our need to split the check a specific way, but it worked out in the end. We enjoyed some cocktails and beer (ranging from 9.50 Euro to 12 Euro), as well as the Pork Belly and Pickles to start off (21.50 Euro for 300 grams). Tasty way to start the meal. The three of us shared our mains and enjoyed what we had. The Favorite Ribs (24.50 Euro) were flavorful; the L'Incroyable 300gr (Ribeye; 34.50 Euro) was good, but our least favorite of what we ordered; the Le Cannibale Royale 170gr (burger) was super tasty. We also enjoyed some frites (4.90 Euro) and some delicious Mac n Cheese (6.50 Euros). Good time and good food!

We entered and seated ourselves, and within 5 minutes, a staff person greeted us, brought us a flask of tap water (tastes great and clean) and two glasses, and gave us menus. We ordered a short rib sandwich for him and a chicken Caesar sandwich for me. These come à la carte but you can add sides if you want. I was glad we didn't because the portion was generous. One thing I've noticed here is that the bread is always high quality--our sandwiches came in baguettes about 8 inches long --I had to cut mine in half to eat it lol. Both were savory and flavorful and satisfying. The meat was tender and well seasoned. We savored every bite! They both had crispy bacon in them as well. Very filling! Just what we needed to energize us after our morning at Keukenhof!

Every dish felt thoughtfully prepared, and you could tell other tables were enjoying their meals just as much as we were. The only challenge is the restroom access. The staircase leading down is very steep, and I'm not sure if there's an elevator. That said, this is pretty common in Amsterdam's historic buildings and didn't take away from the overall experience. All things considered, I would definitely return to Van Speyk. Great food, great service, and a warm, cozy setting make it a restaurant worth visiting.
