Yes, I was influenced. I came for that swirling, torch kissed hot chocolate all over TikTok. Was it worth it - yes and no. A far superior cup, and I felt like a kid again watching her spin, shave and torch the concoction. You're paying for the experience here. It's a pricy cup. Parking is a challenge and the place is small with limited seating. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is definitely unique. Not really a place to bring the kids, but a cute place for a date. Hubs and I and another couple sipped and swooned in the dimly lit, sweet smelling cafe. We won't be back anytime soon, but would recommend just for the experience of it all. read more

I always hear about RIM Cafe and their crazy hot chocolates, and given I live only a few blocks away, it's mildly embarassing that it took me so long to visit. We finally made it in on a snowy December day to celebrate a friend's birthday. For as much press as it gets, it was not super busy, which I appreciated. The shop is very eclectic, with "random" decorations covering essentially every inch of the space. This is kinda what I envisioned after reading about RIM, and it fits. RIM offers many varieties of their famed hot chocolate, as well as a large selection of pastries, various espresso drinks, and other treats. We were just in it for the hot chocolate, and we opted for the original for our first try. It was so fun watching the server go through the whole prep for the drink, freshly shaving chocolate atop the glass and spinning it on this crazy chocolate wheel thing. The presentation is wild and quite asthetically pleasing with the whipped cream, shavings, and chocolate dripping down the sides. The hot chocolate was quite delightful, but I was expecting it to be a touch thicker? IDK, maybe I don't have luxury hot chocolate often enough to know what it should taste like. It was pretty sweet (not surprising), so I'm glad I split one with my husband. I also wanted to extract every last morsel of the drink, which proved to be slightly difficult as things cooled, but I did my best! The drinks are not cheap, but I so much appreciated the 30% discount given to healthcare workers. This doesn't happen often post-COVID, and in talking with our server, you can tell that she and her husband, the owner, really value the community and all those who help to keep it running. This was so meaningful for me to hear, and honestly increases my chances of coming back. Stopping at RIM for a hot cocoa while celebrating a friend made for a lovely evening on a cold day, and I'm glad I finally had a reason to visit. I'll definitely be revisiting in the weekend to try more hot chocolate options and some of the pastries as well! read more

Wow such a fun experience! I wish I snapped a pic of the menu but I was so distracted by everything else in this little shop I failed to do so! It's a small corner shop right by Pat's, Geno's and the Garage. There is actually some Geno's memorabilia inside. It's a gourmet hot cocoa shop, the cheapest hot cocoa drink is the original and it was $12 at the time. It is fun to watch how they do it! The glasses are placed on a lazy Susan which is covered in chocolate shavings. They add whipped cream to the glass then pour in the hot cocoa. This is a great start but next they start shaving a variety of chocolate on top. Milk, dark, white. I don't even know what they all were but it was definitely fun to each the drink become richer and more delicious with every scrape. As if that isn't enough, if you order a drink that comes with marshmallow, they toast it with a small flame thrower. They also sell a variety of chocolate covered pretzels, cannoli, and gelato. Loved the crazy Philly decor. Tried the original hot chocolate at $12. Cocoa beans are very expensive now and they make their own chocolate so that probably has something to do with the price. I never mind paying for something truly great but sad to say this was NOT. It was way too sweet and kind of off tasting. Could barely finish it and it's a small serving since its so thick and rich. What a wild place! Growing up in an Italian home, this place made so much sense but also didn't all at the same time. It is such an eclectic collection of items but I'm sure each had its own story. Visually, it's a lot! Crazy pieces of all kinds of things everywhere. Once you see, you'll understand. The cannolis are truly delicious and I'd love to have one daily. Definitely a quirky place. The owner has tons of decorations throughout the cafe. Don't touch anything cuz you might break stuff. The staff broke a piece while trying to put up another piece of decoration and the owner was shouting at him. We got the hot chocolate. It's like $14 for a very small glass of super sweet Hershey's chocolate syrup with milk, at least that's what it tastes like. It was a bit of a novelty item since they have this big pile of chocolate shavings and they shave off a block of chocolate for your drink. But overall overpriced and would not recommend. While we did not buy one, the cannolis in the display all looked very sugary, coated in sprinkles and such, didn't seem authentically Italian as the ones I've had at Eataly. read more

He was truly a delightful person and seemed so interesting. I wish there weren't so many customers behind me because I had so many questions. Rim Cafe is perfectly eccentric, interesting and quirky. I absolutely fell in love with the cafe. Many pictures were hung on the walls and memorabilia throughout the cafe; so much to look at and appreciate. I went to the counter to order a cortado; it wasn't on the menu. I asked the barista about it. He said he could make it but I would probably enjoy the Cubano Cappuccino more. I've learned that whenever a barista suggests an espresso drink you should listen. The drink was fabulous. Condense milk makes most things taste better. My son ordered the Volcano Hot Chocolate and loved it. You can tell by the pictures because he was trying to get every last drop out of the glass. Watching the gentleman sing along with the Italian music while making the hot chocolate and the smile he gave when he handed us the hot chocolate was priceless. You could tell he enjoys his profession. The bonus to the experience was the 20% off for veterans! I thoroughly enjoyed my expereince at Rim Cafe. I ordered the volcano original hot chocolate but I was quite disappointed that it looked nothing like the advertisement or what others have gotten. It looked like a regular hot chocolate with whipped cream and I wanted all the shenanigans like the chocolate shavings and what not - that was literally the only reason I came here. We also got the chocolate ganache and chocolate pistachio truffles and both were damn good! Definitely look forward to trying more of their truffles and gelato. read more

You see their cannoli shells that all look incredible and then their gelato too! I mean gelato and cannolis are a match made in heaven so make sure you get both. Visited the Italian Market 9th street/South Philly area during my recent trip. I had NOT planned to eat BOTH a Philly cheesesteak (see my other review) AND a cannoli all within about 30 minutes of one another, but alas - we had been walking quite a bit, and I'd figured I'd walk another 15,000 steps and just work it off, right? And people, the options in Rim Cafe made this place worth it!!!! SO. MANY. CANNOLI. SHELL options! I just got the regular, plain shell with regular cream, but OMG if I could bear to walk another 20,000 steps I would have gone for the chocolate filled, chocolate sprinkled shell. There are photos all around - you get the sense of the history of the Italian Market area. We fortunately went with no crowd, but I imagine it is often packed with tourists. I had heard of RIM because of the chocolate specialties and Italian desserts. The Peanut Butter was the real winner of this visit. I bought a jar to take home, and it was gone in two days. We ordered a mini warm cheesecake like dessert to share on our visit here. It was a quiet Sunday with few other patrons, and we snagged a seat to nosh on our dessert. I saw this cafe listed on a Yelp list of 25 places to get hot chocolate in the US a few months ago....and we just happened to stumble upon it the other day...I was SO excited!!! It is small inside with a few tables. Almost has an antique shop vibe in there, and has a homey feel with dim lighting. There is a case with all the different cannoli shells...omg, there was just so many interesting flavors. They also have cannolis stuff with gelato I believe, and there is another case near the door that have these massive size cannolis. We decided to go with the baked cannoli with the OG volcano hot chocolate and I went with the Chocolate PB volcano hot chocolate. It was so hard to choose one, as they all sounded good. I saw someone get the surprise me hot chocolate. I dont' know what was in it but the presentation was amazing. It was in a martini glass with a massive amount of sprinkles around the rim. The baked cannoli was very good. Thank goodness we split it. I love sweets but even this would be too much on my own! The hot chocolate was like drinking a hot rich liquid chocolate bar. It was so good. The staff are SO nice there. You can tell they take so much pride in the quality and presentation. So glad we just found it on our wandering around the city. Came in on a weekend night for a low-key dessert spot with seating. Firstly, the decorations were absolutely adorable and fit the old school South Philly Italian theme very well. The employee behind the register was very helpful in guiding us through the menu and various options. The variety of specialty drinks, cannolis, and gelatos was overwhelming but amazing. I decided to go for a 2-scoop gelato cup and a shot of espresso. I went for one scoop of Panna Cotta Gelato and one scoop of Cannoli Gelato. The taste of the Cannoli flavor was to die for. The bits of cannoli were so crunchy and flavorful in every bite. I truly felt like I was eating cannoli filling, but lighter. The Panna Cotta flavor wasn't my favorite, but it was definitely a neat flavor to try for the first time. The espresso was extremely good quality and made a great accompaniment to the sweet gelato. After sitting with some family eating our desserts for some time, the employee actually brought us over a free Baked Cannoli that another customer had ordered and left. It was an extremely pleasant surprise being that we were eyeing that menu item before. It was truly an exquisite taste, and it was like nothing I've ever had before. I was in Philly just for the Cheesesteaks but right down from Gino's and Pat's was this little gem. I was REALLY in the mood for a cannoli. It is one of my all time favorite desserts. So, as it turned out The Rim Cafe specializes in coffee and Italian desserts. I walked down the block and found this slice of Heaven. The store is the ultimate in niche chic. Pictures and memorabilia cover every square inch of the store. They have a coffee roaster and roast their own coffee in house. They make their own gelato. They have a wonderful collection of chocolates. But their signature item is the cannoli. They actually import them from Paloma, Italy. They are fresh, thick, flavorful and come in about a dozen different flavors. They are filled to order. The mascarpone filling is light, creamy, sweet and orgasmic. The owner was there that night and it was so nice to see how proud he was for the absolute perfect cannoli. I look forward to going back to Philly, not for the cheesesteaks, but for this wonderful cafe with a great staff and the best damn desserts this side of the Atlantic!
