We had a work function at Rincon Brewery in Ventura on Wednesday evening. It was VERY good! They had an excellent variety of a couple of dozen beers on draft, to include two barrel-aged varieties that were very tasty. They also had awesome and remarkably fast food. I had the carnitas tacos Wendesday night. As luck would have it, I accidentally left my credit card at Rincon, so I took that as a sign I needed to go back there for dinner on Friday night. This time I went with the server's recommendation of the chicken sandwich and sweet potato fries, and they were AWESOME! I felt like both nights the food was served within about 5 minutes of me sitting down. It was remarkably fast service. They have a very large dining room that could easily accommodate a hundred people. My only complaint is their parking lot is very small and only has space for about 10 cars. read more

The service here is such garbage. Why the hell do I have to go to the front and ask for a server three times. When I do get a server he makes it known he doesn't even want to serve us by the way he's speaking. Even getting the check was a hassle. 10 min later after I went to the front I got my check. I seen the hostess and the waitress at the table next to us more than we seen our garbage waiter. If you get the tall natural red head male with a beard go ahead and ask for another waiter. Food was ok but the ranch and habanero sauce is definitely watered down. The little things matter and I would love to come back here honestly. My boyfriend and I was here for his 31st birthday. He likes beer and wanted to try different kinds. I don't drink so I just had water. I started with the free range chicken wings plain with bbq , ranch and buffoon sauces and he had the chips w/ sauce and guacamole. I think the Guacamole was plain didn't really have much but it was okay my boyfriend liked it. The sauces for the wings especially the buffalo sauce was very interesting in a good way. After I had the sriracha chicken sandwich but it wasn't crispy breaded one I had grilled chicken breast instead with side salad and my boyfriend had the sourdough jalapeño burger w/ salad as well. I hate to give this place a three star but have too. The first time I went with my son, we waited over an hour for our food (literally that is not embellished). The beer then was good, they had multiple stouts and I believe a porter. When the food arrived (burger was supposed to be medium rare) the burger was charcoal. My son, wouldn't touch it which is very unusual for him. The sweet potatoes were delicious though. The good thing is that the waitress was super sweet, constantly apologetic and cooked a beer for me. The other great thing is the atmosphere. They have two cornhole games and a sand pit for kids. The outside is big, Cousy and definitely one of the best looking brewery/restaurant I have seen. Besides the good, was a horrible first visit. I decided to give it a second chance and brought my wife and son this time. The server was a bit slow and seemed not to care for waiting on us. This time the beer was not my favorite. They had one stout which had a horrible bite to it and one porter. The porter was on point though. We ordered two burgers which were good but not great. My wife loved her burger but still not what a medium rare should be. Again, the sweet potatoes were on point. All in all, I will be back and if we have a better experience I will ensure this review is updated. I really wanted to love this place (like institution my favorite. I haven't been writing reviews lately with all the adjustments the 15 months, but I felt compelled to now. The beer here is very good, so that's a plus. The space is also very fun and inviting, another plus. The problem I had was right from ordering, to the food and the service. 1. Ordering - I think it is really important for the staff to know everything that is on the menu, and then order it correctly. This is a management training issue, and they need to take time to educate their employee's about the entire food and beverage menu. 2. The food - I had the Fried Chicken Sliders with fries (which you have to pay an extra $1 for). OK, it says it comes with bleu cheese and Sriracha. It really wasn't there, and thus the sliders were dry (or perhaps the bun was stale). Regardless, if the slider had more of the bleu cheese, and a lot of Sriracha, it would've been great. The fries - cook them for about a minute more so they are a bit crunchy on the outside yet still soft on the inside. 3. Service - now for the real problem. I did not see management present (no one came around to check on anything), and they seem a bit low on staffing which then causes the problems of the employees being overwhelmed. They are running all over the place and distracted. I went to close out the check, and ordered a wine. The employee poured it, then just walked away to do something else, leaving the wine just sitting there behind the counter - what? I really feel Rincon has such great potential, but after discussing things with others who were also there, the consensus is that it's disappointing. I hope they take some time to - re-evaluate, re-train, then RETURN as an awesome place to meet friends. read more

This place is amazing! Went here for the first time for an engagement party and it was amazing. Good food great beers and an amazing outdoor ambience. I really like the fact that they have activities for kids and they are family oriented even though there're still a brewery. Enjoyed a COVID-friendly birthday party for my brother with 5 others and had a great time sitting on their patio, drinking beer, and eating everything from loaded potato skins to tri-tip sammies, a chicken pesto sandwich (yum), and a cobb salad. I ordered the cobb, which I would recommend for its ample toppings (you had me at crumbled blue cheese and tomatoes *swoon*). Ordered two small beers and liked them both (A Mexican-style lager and a Hazy-ish IPA). No one in our party disliked their food or their beer, which is unusual. I have seen other reviewers talk about the fish tacos being bad, we didn't order them because there are really great tacos spots around VC and I wasn't feeling a taco vibe (or a seafood vibe in general) from this place. Also, not that decor is super high on people's priorities for a microbrewery, but the design inside of the place is looking FRESH. Feels a bit more like a wine-tasting room (I mean this as a VERY high compliment), and is a little more stylish than the other local breweries. I was drawn to the aesthetic. Asked for a few more beer samples before dinner which were obliged and delivered quickly. Server was a nice kid who took our order and checked on us frequently. Food came out. A house salad with ranch. Simple enough. Greens were fine but who is behind the house ranch? It has the consistency of water and adds about as much flavor as that. Tried to dunk a fry in it and it basically came out dry. Fish and chips were out next. Yikes. Smedium sized pieces of fish fully blanketed in Belgian beer batter. Belgian beer is sweet. Belgian beer batter is sweet. Fully blanketed fish sticks in beer batter came out like fish stick funnel cake. Not very pleasing. The over battering also lead to a lot of burnt excess. **Bottom Line Up Front** **There is room for improvement** My first impression of Rincon Brewery started at the door where I asked for a table for two and was told there was a 45 minute wait time. It's a non-issue; since now I could start sampling beer at my leisure. On the far end of the bar there is another register to order beer. I asked the second hostess if Rincon Brewery had a house beer, in which she quickly replied "no" [I found this odd for a brewery], "but we have a beer that everyone likes". I agree to the aforementioned beer, pay my bill and find a seat in the common area where its open seating. Ten minutes into my first beer the pager goes off, meaning a table is ready, and I promptly go back to the hostess for my table where she offers me a seat at the bar i stead. Again, a non issue, but after a few minutes, I had the get my own silverware and menu. NOW, its getting a bit ridiculous! After another 10 minutes, I had to stop a waiter and ask "is it okay to order food at the bar?". The question was rhetorical but now I am desperate for service. Finally there is a breakthrough, and I get a bartender to start helping. This guy was a total charmer, and he made up a lot of lost ground during my first hour into my first visit. For dinner I had the boneless chicken wings and Cali Burrito accompanied with a 20oz glass of Bates Blonde, Warrior Pride, and a slider tray with four more beers to sample. Closing thoughts: By the time I had eaten, I was out of steam, and patience, and I wanted the experience to be over. Management still has a ways to go, regarding staff training, but I will NOT let this visit dissuade me from another visit at a later time. This is my neighborhood craft brewery. We can literally walk there which we normally do. The space is amazing with both indoor and out door seating. The decor is excellent with lots of local ocean art. The food is delicious. My favorite is the pesto chicken sandwich. The beer is above average. They hit most of the standards but 7 or more IPAs. I hope they continue to do well and possibly round out their beer options. Of course they have to go with the best sellers. Parking looks like a challenge on week ends. Like most places in VENTURA, there is not enough parking for peak hours. All in all an excellent brew pub, atmosphere, great food and good beer. read more

I love the Carp location and have been super excited for the Ventura location to open. I've been twice now and both visits were disappointing. The brewery itself is beautiful and the beers are delicious but they need to work on their service. 1st visit - a few weeks after the grand opening. Understandably crazy busy. But there should be more than one person pouring the beers and ringing you up. 40 minutes in line for one beer is ridiculous. Took about 2 hours to get a table and the food was mediocre at best. 2nd visit - a Sunday night where the brewery was virtually empty. Ordered a beer and sat outside under the heat lamps. Was asked to move because I was not planning on eating. I understand the tables outside are reserved for dining but the place was empty and there was nobody waiting for a table. I moved to another high top table. I was asked to move AGAIN by another employee. I wouldn't have tried sitting at either table had it been busy/people were waiting for dining. As soon as I got here the hostess told me they were not seating people and had a wait time of a 45 mins to an hour. We asked what could we do if wanted to eat here? Beer is good. Service is average not great but not bad. A little inconsistent. Been here pribably 10 times in the last few years. The visits have gotten further and further apart as the food continues to steadily get worse. Kinda sad because we used to really enjoy this place, so much that we continue to give them more chances but i think were finally done. I ordered my usual sourdough jalapeno burger, which used to be amazing, and again they screwed it up. This time the hamburger patty took up about 15-20 percent of the sandwich, they forgot the jalapeno and forgot the cheese. I basicly got a mini burger patty a few bacon pieces and some lettuce. A very pleasant surprise. My wife and I went for lunch with our daughter and 2 grandchildren for lunch after a day at the park. Large space, with plenty of seating inside and out, so they easily accommodated out party and we didn't feel cramped. Everyone enjoyed their food. We shared the pretzel balls, which were tasty and really a nice size to munch. My daughter had the blackened fish sandwich, which was the highest priced item at $18. Garlic fires on the side ($3) were tasty. The wife, the picky eater, enjoyed her BLTA ($12.99) and I had a 1/2 BBQ Chopped Chiccken Salad ($12.99) which was sizeable. I can't imagine trying to finish a full size alone. Our grandson had the Kids Mac & Cheese with fresh made potato chips. Grandpa satched a few of the chips, which were an excellent rendition. This review is a message to management: Don't change what works. Rincon has been my favorite brewery for several years; so much so that I was willing to drive 40 minutes to eat and drink there and told many friends about Rincon. The ambiance was great, the food and service were excellent, and the price was reasonable. It's been a while since I got out there, but I made it a point to take the family there last night. I had my wife and daughter save a table, while I went up to the front bar area to order. I was told that they had changed the way that you order; that now, you take a table and a waiter will serve you. I went back to my table and waited for a painfully long time to order. Finally, the waiter came with menus, and the first thing I noticed is that they discontinued their "Caught Inside" IPA, which was my favorite beer at Rincon. I asked the waiter why they had discontinued this beer, but she did not know why. So I ordered the "Indicator" beer, which was no where near as good as Caught Inside, for about the same price. As I looked at the menu, I found that most food items had gone up about $3 each since the last time I was there. Compared to previous visits, the food was disappointing. To end the experience, we had to wait so long for our bill that we asked a busser to ask our waiter to come to our table. Prices are going up everywhere, so the price increase wasn't a big deal. The bigger deal was the change to a service system that is slower than what they had before, and also reduced the community interaction between folks waiting to give their orders, thereby changing the vibe of the place. My Gosh what a disaster. Second time in to this place and it was as bad as the first time. We usually give a place a second chance but left feeling disappointed and out $80. Walked in and was reluctantly greeted by a girl who almost looked unsure why we walked into the restaurant in the first place. I suppose she was a waitress or hostess but immediately got the impression she absolutely did not want to be there. Told us to "pick your table, anywhere". So she slowly followed us to a table we selected. Proceeded to get a glass of wine and a beer for my husband. Looked over menu and it was pretty lack luster, basic menu with not much appeal. Grabbed the nachos and a Cobb salad to share. Received lukewarm nachos by the food runner, we had to ask for salsa and when he came back also had to prompt him to bring plates. The Nachos were something you'd get at a 711, as the cheese was that melted kind you get in a can. The diced onions and tomatoes were translucent and looked like they were freezer burned & not fresh. I should have taken a photo but we were in a hurry to get to an art exhibit. My $18 Cobb salad arrived and I kid you not, it was the size of a side salad. There was no cheddar cheese on it, & only about 3-4 crumbles of blue cheese. There was roughly a 1/4 cup of diced chicken atop it, next to 3 small slivers of avocado. There was a half a tablespoon of crumbled bacon on there. The lettuce was a spring type mix that you get from a Trader Joe's bag. The lettuce leaves were about 3 inches long, not cut up whatsoever. They only gave us two napkins and a fork with no knife. I had to flag a busboy down for a glass of water and he returned with a small glass of water no ice. By this time the husband was clearly irritated by the service, food and its presentation. And was itching to leave. I drank my glass of wine. As we left we both said, "we're never coming back." I usually don't write reviews but this place not only over hypes their menu. But the quantity and quality of their food is way below par. It's very over priced because of the size of the place, the overhead is preventing this place to better themselves. I now can see why each time that I drive by the place it is not crowded. This could actually be a great place but I think there are too many cooks in the kitchen so to speak, who would rather profit than to provide exceptional food and even better service. I did not see any floor manager or any one that resembled management on the floor. I would also consider hiring people who actually smile or at least could fake liking actually having a job. I first went to Rincon in February. It was great! Great service, great food! As a belated Mother's Day surprise, my daughter invited me there again, for lunch today. It was terrible! Terrible service, terrible food, Very Expensive! The server was awful! She brought our food, as well as an opaque bottle of ketchup, which wobbled, when she set it down on our table.......obviously, not much ketchup in it, The food, which took a very long time to come, was not hot, barely warm The server never came to ask how everything was, I had to call her over. I had ordered a cheeseburger, which came not even hot, with the cheese glommed on it, as though it had been sitting for way too long, I told her the food was not hot. My daughter had ordered the Sriracha burger and wanted some more water, as the spicy sauce made her thirsty.....we were never offered more water We did not have adequate ketchup, not enough water, cold food. The place is beautiful, and the food has been superb each time I've been in. Maybe it isn't even fair to rate an establishment such as this in the first month? It's a large restaurant, with an entirely new staff, so there will definitely be a few issues here and there. Which is why this is only a 3 Star at the moment. But I have no doubt that this rating will improve with every visit as I definitely get the impression that the owners and management genuinely care about every aspect of their customer's experience.
