Was in the area and stopped by for lunch. This restaurant is pretty authentic as far as Mexican food in the area. The customer service was spot on and I enjoyed the food! I ordered a side of guacamole to start and, of course, they bring chips and salsa. The salsa was flavorful with a nice kick to it. The guacamole is simply mashed up avocados - but it was still flavorful (if you order it won't come with tomatoes, onions, and cilantro). I settled on the crispy beef tacos and it's served with rice and beans with a side of salsa. The tacos were really good, fresh, and enough for a lunch portion! We ate here on Sunday, April 27, 2025. Angel P. was our server. He was friendly and attentive and took very good care of us. My wife and I and our friend who was visiting knew we were in for a good meal when they brought out their homemade salsa and fresh chips. The salsa was so good we had to buy some to take home. I had the Chipotle Chicken Enchilada plate. The chipotle sauce was really tasty and the chicken was cooked perfectly in the enchilada. The rice and the beans were really good as well. My wife had the Chile Relleno plate. She said it was one of the best chile relleno she's ever tasted. Our friend (who happens to be a vegetarian) had the Chipotle Cheese Enchilada plate with one Spinach Tamale. She raved about her whole meal. My wife and I live in Mabank and we don't have a Mexican restaurant even close to the quality of Rio Lerma. It's only about 35 minutes away so we will be coming back for sure P.S. So went to Rio Lerma Mexican Restaurant last night for Trivia which was fun. But what does not make sense to me was that they charged a 20% gratuity to the check. Then when I asked what that was for they said for a when they have a big party. We were a party of four so I asked why and they said because it is a big party for trivia. But everyone was at different tables and all paying separate. Can you please help me to understand how you can justify adding gratuity to any table that participates playing trivia every month. If this is is the case Terrell Library may want to consider looking for another location to have host your monthly trivia nights. I would consider coming again if it was hosted at another restaurant. This is not very good business as you should reconsider some of your decisions. This has left a very bad taste in my mouth for Rio to the point of considering never coming back again. read more

Rio Lerma is in Terrell, Texas. It's out of our area but it's a fun destination restaurant. They have THE BEST Mexican food I've ever had. This is the real deal. Red chili con carne with tender pork on top of a perfect chicken or cheese pablano with ranchero sauce. Enchiladas with eggs. So many authentic foods that I've only seen at friends homes. They have authentic enchiladas, wonderful beef picadillo tacos and everything you could and could never think of. Absolutely delicious. The margaritas are to die for and when I was last there, Mondays and Tuesdays were $1 margaritas. They yummy and pack a punch. Chips and salsa very tasty as well as the guacamole. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the perfect service from the bar staff to the wait staff. Super friendly and kind. This is truly small town Texas at its best. Although it's growing at the speed of light. And there are a couple of little shops on this downtown street. Don't miss the super cute bookstore across and down the street. They have a resident cat and places to sit and read. It's like stepping into another world. Take a relaxing day trip to Terrell to eat some great Mexican food and enjoy the surrounding area as well. Found this spot from Google when my mom & I were driving cross-country & needed to stop somewhere for food. The reviews looked good & so did the food/menu so we decided to stop. We were NOT disappointed! The customer service was great, our waitress was very attentive & fast, the FOOD was AMAZING. When I read other reviews I saw someone recommend the brisket quesadilla so we got it and whoever that was, you were right! It was delicious! In total we got the burrito ranchero (I think, if I remember correctly), the brisket quesadilla, & the brisket stuffed avocado. If you are craving authentic Mexican food, this is definitely the place to stop at. We were so happy when we left. If we are ever in Terrell, TX we will DEFINITELY be stopping by again. read more

The chipotle chicken enchiladas are new favorite. The chipotle sauce is light, well seasoned, and not overly spicy. The rice and beans are good portions amd full flavored. The chili relleno is not as good. The brisket tasted like an unseasoned pot roast and they it wasn't an egg battered coating on the pepper.
