Drove out from Roseville because online inventory from True Value reflected a part in stock, on the shelf. Part was not in stock, nor on the shelf, and the bearded lady at the counter was having a bad day. The entire encounter was strange, even by the loosest of Rio Linda standards. I took my faulty circuit breaker for comparison. The so called expert electric parts gave me a circuit breaker that looked similar. When I got home I found that the new breaker was not the same and would not fit in my breaker box. So I took it back to exchange it. They refused to exchange the one THEY gave me and they would not refund my money. They made the mistake not me. So much for supporting local businesses. read more

Been to the store a couple times, every single time Im followed by the whole staff and made to feel like a thief. They follow you through the store, but once you ask for help, they act like you're such a burden to them. I felt completely uncomfortable and will have to drive out of town to get any hardware needs from now on. The prices are three times amount anywhere else anyways. The reason why I do not recommend this hardware store to anyone is because every time I go in there, nobody is paying attention to their customers. Their employees rather stand around, talking about their personal life. They supposed to be helping out their customers. Then when you ask them something they do not know where it's at. The owner there is pretty nice. Honestly, he knows everything about his store. Another reason why I do not recommend this store is because very very very expensive. I went into the true value in Rio Linda and I could swear the owner of the store had a toilet between her shoulders all the profanity that came out of her mouth she was yelling at a customer telling him to get out of the store and you she used every swear word she could think of and then she went to the front of the store and all I could hear yelling the same thing again about how she I said this to him I would recommend nobody ever take their children into this store she has the foulest mouth you've ever heard. read more

Prices are higher than online but to my mind it is ok to pay more to support a local business. That said, I am careful with my purchases. Before making a purchase I think through what I need, read reviews, and compare specs. That has never been a problem in any store before. But for some reason the staff here was uncomfortable with how long I took deciding on my items. While I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable, I also don't like being rushed particularly in selecting tools. Anyway, I must have taken too long deciding because the manager said she had a video of me "just standing there" in front of the display case and that i was making her staff uncomfortable. Actually, I was on my iPhone reading about the different Dremel bits and attachments. In the information age, maybe I have become overly accustomed to researching each option before making a purchase. But I am not a rich person. I work for what I spend. And it's my money!!! Anyway, I ended up choosing three Dremel bits, before being asked to leave. On my way out the manager grilled me on why I had been standing there so long looking at Dremel bits when I initially said I wanted sandpaper. I explained that these were sanding bits and that I had decided on them instead but it took longer because I had recently purchased a Dremel and wasn't familiar with the bits available and they had a wide selection to chose from. Well, she reiterated that it made the staff uncomfortable. I told the manager that it didn't feel right to be rushed. In response she said that they have plenty of business and don't need me as a customer. I could buy my items and leave, if I was respectful, she told me. I assured her that I respect her and the store and appreciate and support local businesses, and bought the items. Anyway, I think this is probably an ok store if you know exactly what you want. But not a good place to take your time and browse. (Note: A black reviewer expressed concern that he may have been treated differently at this store based on his race-identity. While I would not assume anything one way or the other in my case, it's something "True Value" corporate may want to look into. Great local small business. They have a great central location in Rio Linda. Plenty of products and supplies packed in a smallish store location based on todays standards but NEVER LACKING for any of the things I need or want. This is one of the few traditional style hardware stores that you will find anymore that will instantly remind you of the ones you went to with your parents as a child. Great customers service. Friendly employees that are helpful and actually know what they are talking about. Great selection and quality products. Fast service and no long lines! Products from A-Z! If you need it they probably will have it at least that has always been the case for me. I am a huge fan of businesses, employees and owners that "get it", especially small local businesses. Poor customer service and overall experience. I came to purchase soil. After noticing that the pricing was wrong I asked to have the price checked. The worker named Jason showed an upset attitude because he would have to bring it inside to check. After checking and confirming the price was wrong. The worker purposefully loaded the damaged bag of soil with the damaged side face down into my vehicle in order to hide the fact that it was damaged and that about 10% of it was missing. This made a mess in my car. This kind of service is very dishonest. I should have been told it was damaged and asked it I wanted to purchase. I felt ripped off and disrespected. Very disappointed this happened. I used to go there loyally but now will consider other options first. read more

The owner is super sweet and always friendly, his wife however is hit and miss. You can pay your utility bills in the back, they have garden veggies in the spring time, a popcorn machine for the kids to get fresh popcorn and they have almost every hardware supply you could need. They have weekly adds that come out to your mailbox too if you live in good ol' Rio Linda. Way closer to the house than a Home Depot but not nearly as much selection. read more

I was getting paint mixed one day, and not only was the woman unfriendly but she and another employee were talking about another customer that was there prior. The word b**** was used atleast twice. I have been in here recently since i moved to rio linda but i remember this place from when i was a really young kid too! My recent experience was a good one despite the fact i came in like 3 times in an hour to get stuff for our fallen fence. Everyone there was very friendly. Knowledgable, not really. But friendly? sure! It may have been the staff that day only but one particular guy there was uninterested in his job and the other guy was either new or just not that aware yet. I bought a new fire pit last week, and was having trouble finding a store that had kindling in Stock as it's still pretty early. Home Depot, Lowe's, Osh, none of the had any. I decided to give my local hardware store a call just in case they might have some. A manager, Felicia, answered my call. She said she didn't have any, but took my name and number and said she'd check her Woodland store and would call me back. I was disappointed as I took that to mean it would be a few days before they could get some in Stock. Less than two hours later, Felicia calls me back to tell me she now has some in stock! I couldn't believe she had some brought over in hours instead of days simply for one customer. Now THAT is customer service! I will be checking this place first from now on! read more

Pro's Friendly Knowledgeable employees. Store is close by. Some prices are very reasonable. Con's They don't sort out shelves after customers misfile the parts in them. If I really need an item that isn't in its bin, I will sort out bins 7 to the left, right, up and down. About 50% of the time I will find what I'm looking for. The problem with that is, I get irritated by having to spend all that time sorting out their bins. The thing that Really sets my teeth on edge is having to return something. They have this return policy from possibly the 1930's. Everybody from time to time, buys three or four sizes of something intending to return the ones that don't fit. Everyone buys 20 of something and discovers that they only needed 10, and expects to return the unused parts in order to get their cash back. No problem, right? Wrong! Receipts are required for a return, and items can't be returned after 30 days. If any of you are like me, receipts seem to evaporate or vanish into thin air as soon as I leave the store. One day I realized that I got angry every time I went into my garage. Usually I like working in there. I started looking around, trying to figure out why, and noticed that several times a day I had been walking by a workbench with some True Value bags with about $50.00 worth of valves and brass parts and other new things that I can't get my money back for. So I promptly grabbed a box and threw the bags in it and filed it in a dark corner in the back of the garage. Then I only got angry when I was back in the corner in the dark. I finally donated them to Goodwill. As a result, I am Happy working in my garage again. The owner is a nice guy, who, is bringing his store up to modern standards, but his attitude towards returns seems to be (this is the way we've always done it, and works for me). One of best things about Walmart and Home Depot is their return policy. Walmart even took back a woman's husband and I'm pretty sure she didn't get him there. For a hardware store I think this place is pretty darn good. Some of their prices are still convenient hardware prices for the most part but they have some competitive prices for a bunch of other stuff too. I would stop here any day before going to the big box stores if I were in the area. That is saying a lot for a hardware store. read more

Great service for a door lock issue. Keys would not work. Nice, knowledgeable guy at the store offered to fix my lock if I could get it off the door and over to him. He fixed it perfectly in about fove minutes and didn't charge me a dime. That's old fashioned service!!! read more
