I took a week trip and left my pet Honey at Rios pet spa. staying away from our pets is not easy, but every day I received pictures of Honey having fun with her friends. Even far from her I new she was great! As I came back late and the pet would be closed to pick up Honey, I ordered the delivery service. when I got home Honey was already there waiting for me. She was super happy, showered, nails cut and beautiful in a bandana. It's so wonderful to have a second home for Honey when I have to go away. My parents have been taking my dog to Rio's for almost a year now and have wanted me to come check it out so I could write a review about them! My Shih-Tzu, Hershey is 16 years old , and so I am naturally very protective of him and take a keen interest in who is caring for him. What I liked about the place when my parents told me about it, was the ability to log onto their website and check on him via Live Feed on video cams all throughout the property! I love the transparency and confidence that shows about their business practices. Flavia is the front desk person who greeted us today, when I went with my Mom to see the place. Flavia was so kind and accommodating and even gave me a mini tour of the property! It's very well maintained and I found out that majority of the animals there, were boarded by their families while away on vacation or what have you. Hershey was done in about an hour and I could tell in his behavior that he was treated well. They did an amazing job and I'm happy that I found a place that puts my mind at ease! read more

This is by far the best Spa & Boarding center in all of Miami! Really did a ton of research because it can be scary to trust anybody with your fur family but at Rios you don't have to worry about anything. My two dogs used to be very nervous around other animals but over here they were slowly but comfortably socializing more until they got to the point that they wanna spend more time here! Patricia, the owner agreed on $30 per night and end up charging $40....i picked up my dog full of piss...here is the scenario: All the dogs are being left alone at their own luck, very poor hygiene. Patricia, i didnt asked why you were charging more money, because i just wanted to pick up my girl and leave this place, no matter how much it cost. Absolutely amazing! An A+ personality and A++ service makes for a happy family. Patricia welcomed us in and spent time with us in the morning. So patient, friendly, open to using his shampoo with its extensive instructions. We arrived 6 hours later to our happy, perfectly coiffed baby! Love the happy puppy vibe in there and will be back! I used Rio's business only to pick up Farm Fresh dog food which is only available at three locations in Florida. Upon my first visit I realized I I would never, ever leave my dog in their care or use their grooming. The place smells like urine and the staff is very unprofessional. I continued to use their business only to pick up my dog's food and upon arriving today I was bombarded when approaching the door because one of the dogs got loose and would have ran into the street had I not quickly closed the door. My dog is not a client of theirs and is no traumatized by three women screaming after this one dog trying to escape. They have dogs all over in crates barking to get out. I was offered free day care months back and I wouldn't leave my dog in their care if you paid me. Always read reviews. I'd rather drive across Miami to get her food. read more

I have been letting Barclay (my Scottish Terrier) tell me when he wants to go for a shave and a haircut and hang out with his buddies at Rio's for over a year now and we are still both well pleased. It took us awhile and more than a few groomers to find one who could give him just the right Scottie cut he felt he deserved and in addition made him feel special while giving it to him. He looks forward to seeing Patricia, and Flavia and trust me that's saying something with his "Scottitude". Scotties are well known for their attitude and he's no exception. Disappointed, does not even begin to describe how angry I am. My Sheba Inu went into this place a happy full of life, full fur adorable dog. He came out looking worse then a rat with no hair. His personality has changed due to the fact that Sheba Inu's are supposed to have hair on their body to protect them. All he has done since his visit to this disgusting place is stay under covers. He hardly wants to eat. Looking at the reviews on this page I see mostly negative comments, this is the first time I have written on Yelp or looked at reviews, what I have read is that this place also abuses the dogs. It makes me think what they did to my dog? The women who works in the front Patricia is a worse then a snake pretending to be helpful and nice. She is as disgusting as the place she owns Rio Pet Spa. I've been taking my Maltese to Rio's Pet Spa for at least 10 years. My husband and I have groomed three Maltese's throughout 20+ years because we're very picky and two of them were always show coat. As we got a little older it became more difficult so Rio's was very close to my home so I gave them a try. Patricia the owner is awesome and she has a Way with dogs and cats. She takes care of dogs from huge Saint Bernards to little Chihuahuas and she definitely is the alpha and they love her and obey her. Her new location is very roomy and has a little playground with a pool for the dogs that are water type dogs and cozy places for a little princesses like my Maltese. I highly recommend Patricia and Rio's Day Spa grooming and boarding. read more

After trying a few of the local dog grooming businesses in the Miami Shores/Biscayne Park/North Miami area, I am so happy to have found Rio's. Patricia, the owner, is so sweet and friendly and obviously loves dogs. My golden doodle fur baby Trixie loves her "spa day", first playing with the other dogs then gets all dolled up! They keep notes on the clipper length and style we like, which I love. I've been here a few times and never had a problem when I went on Saturdays but today there were different people working and I'll never return. When I got there, there was a frazzled girl telling me how much she hates her coworkers and how she had a terrible morning. I should've left then when I started feeling uncomfortable. I left my dog and when I went to pick him up he looked great (with the exception of a knick under his tail) but they tried convincing me that my dog had fleas. I was so confused because if he was "infested" as they say, why wasn't he scratching himself and why did my vet not mention this infestation two days prior? My vet did a full body check up, and he was fine. But supposedly he was "covered" head to toe. The thing that really got me is that instead of walking him out through the door as usual, they threw him out the viewing WINDOW to me. He's 35 pounds and not easy to lift let alone lift THROUGH A WINDOW! He fell to the floor. I was speechless. At this point I was so confused I paid and left. My boyfriends dog also was treated poorly here as well. She has hip problems and he saw them lifting her legs up roughly to groom her even after telling the groomers not to do so. read more

I read some reviews before coming here and because this is Florida obviously the reviews were limited and mixed. Decided to take a chance since options here are limited to begin with. As Cody and I walked up to the door, Cody started panicking and wanted to head back inside the car. I've taken him to several other groomers and that was the first time he reacted like that. I should have listened to him because he must have got the sense that he was not going to enjoy his visit. After a couple of hours Cody's grooming services was done. First lets start with payment: I had a $10 off grooming service coupon. When I called over the phone I was quoted at $55 for a medium sized dog with medium length hair. So I expected to pay $45 for the services, but she decides to up charge me and tell me the the service was $65 so that she can still get her $55. Fine, No tip for you then. Second, the grooming service was terrible with uneven spots all over. I had to do some touch ups when we got home while other areas we were just going to have to wait until the fur grew out. The thing that upset me the most were the small cuts and irritation marks that showed up on his body the next day. Definitely not coming back to this location, and if you love your pet I advise you not to either. read more

I couldn't be more disappointed of this place. It is real simple, if you have no experience doing something you should ask or at least read about it first! Took my husky for a bath and a trim and I got back my dog with a boxer's style cut! They completely ruin my puppy's fur, it was so bad that he had a Pomeranian style cut on hair and tail! Imagine this on a full grown 80lb dog!! You should NEVER cut a husky's hair, we only trim for looks and hygiene and this is something every groomer should know. Of course we are not coming back and would really recommend the owner to have the staff trained for these kind of things. read more

My favorite groomer in town. They are always patient with my two trouble makers, especially Louie. He's a rescue and usually doesn't like strangers, but he liked all the employees here because they were all very nice to him. I miss Rio's where I used to take my pom and yorkie. Never had any problems, the price was reasonable, and you can drop your dog's off whenever. My pom once got an ear infection from water getting in his ear, but that could have happened on my watch at home so I don't attribute it to Rio's. I'm new to the Miami area and I needed a trustworthy place to board my two babies. After an exhaustive search I settled on Rios Pet Spa. My two babies (A Basenji and a Siberian Husky) were well taken care of during their stay. Rios is a cage free boarding facility. At first I was a tad nervous because my Basenji can be standoffish. Upon picking my babies up, you could tell they had a good time. The attendant told me that my dogs would probably sleep the rest of the day from playing all day. Sure enough, both were knocked out after getting home. I highly recommend Rios Pet Spa. For all of my boarding needs I plan on using them. read more

I got my cat groomed here for the first time and it was great experience for both of us. The lady was very helpful and attentive and you can really tell she loves animal. The only reason they would deserve even one star is because the lady at the front (at first )seemed to be sweet, but I am very disappointed to say the least. I brought my 4 month old teacup maltipoo in for her first real groom. I was told over the phone that as a first time customer it would cost me $45. She is a puppy and clearly not used to the experience, so I was nervous but the place seemed ok. My first gripe was that the lady tried to convince me that my puppy is not a maltipoo but a havanese mix ( not sure what the importance of that was, but she argued that fact with me although I told her I purchased from a breeder and have papers to prove her breed, vet confirmed). She was brought in with beautiful fluffy fur ( maltese part) and I brush her daily. I explained to her that my puppy has been scooting and asked if she does anal glands. She told me that my puppy may have worms and I should buy a dewormer. ( She was recently at vet and has had deworming, but I figured maybe this lady knows?) I asked her to do the anal glands in any case. I was not asked what type of cut I wanted for her nor explained what the process would be. She stated that she would leave her fluffy. I was happy with that and asked how long it would take and she told me 4 hours but would that she would call when my pup was ready. 4 hours later I had to call her -to ask if she was ready- and she stated yes, then proceeded to tell me what a pain in the butt my puppy was. ( May I remind you this is a 4 month old 3 pound maltipoo and it was her first professional grooming). When I picked her up, she was overwhelmed and jumped into my arms. She was shaved down ( not cut like I expected) and had ridiculous pony tails held by rubber bands which clearly were hurting her. I asked the woman " Is this supposed to be fluffy" and her response was, "she needed it". She then proceeded to show me cuts on her arms and state that my puppy's hair got in her cut because she had so much hair!! ( Um yes, she is part maltese..Hello!) I was in such a rush to leave because I was very upset but do not like confrontation, that I didn't realize she charged me $55 and did not give me the discount she had promised on the phone which lured me in the first place.. ( I guess that is your tip lady- even though you didn't deserve one!!) I removed the ridiculous rubber bands and my puppy's hair was not only uneven but her facial hairs were still covering her eyes ( which is why I went to get her groomed in the first place). She also still had hairs in her ears. She is also still scooting. I will NEVER be returning to this establishment read more

After doing some research, I decided to use Rio's for overnight boarding of my puppy. Shortly after walking into the place, I had changed my mind. Nobody was there to greet us (which turned out to be a blessing), and to my shock and complete dismay, there was a dog locked in a bathroom/storage closet barking away while dogs and staff were outside. We left immediately. I was saddened for those who had left their pets to be cared for who received that type of service. We were there for less than five minutes, but were never greeted and were never able to ask just why that poor little puppy was being locked away. read more

I was referred to Rio by a friend as I was new to the area and in need of a new groomer for my dog. I left my dog for doggie boarding back in May and my experience was amazing! The owner took a photo of me and Tucker not knowing I would be receiving a card in the mail from the team with that same photo! How sweet was that?! I absolutely love Rio Pet Spa! Super sweet staff. I took my 4lb Maltese here, she is a very friendly dog, loves to be around people and has never ever bit anyone, and I mean never, not even when people have pulled her hair by mistake, or done anything that could potentially really bother her. When I took her here, I showed them a picture of exactly how I wanted her groomed, the lady was extremely nice and sweet, and acknowledged what I wanted, when I came back she looked like a lion, her body was shaved and her face was very furry and long AND she had a one inch cut on her arm. I had to have them take her back and cut her face again and left. I just didn't want to be there anymore after they had cut her and after she claimed this happened because she was trying to bite the groomer.... hmmmm. If you made a mistake, apologize and move on, don't blame it on the dog. I have been to many places where I can see her getting groomed through the glass and she is never trying to run away or trying to bite, always very intimidated and quiet. I have to give points for the owner being very nice, but that's about it, I never want to take Abby there again. read more
