As a local neighbor I wanted to support this business and also acquire good food for my dog. However, the owner, Mary, was extremely rude as soon as I walked into her establishment. She asked me what I wanted and not "how can I help you." I asked for Royal Canin dog food, her reply, "I don't carry that brand, go to a regular supermarket for that". Then she told me she only carries high end dog food and not cheap food. I thanked her and walked out. Royal Canin isn't cheap nor is it found in regular supermarkets. Mary's demeanor was pretty rude. I've lived down the street from Mary's my entire life and didn't start frequenting this place until about maybe 3 years ago. I instantly became a regular. they have everything you can imagine in there. I also believe if you frequent and they do not have a certain product you may ask to have it delivered to the store. The owner and her daughter are some of the kindest most knowledgeable people you'll ever meet. Everything sold at Mary's is quality guaranteed. I honestly don't go here as often as I should, as I usually do make my pet store runs on Monday. I should probably change that, though, because this place is so close to me, and has almost everything you need at a good price. The owner is very nice and helpful, she seems to know what she's doing, especially when it comes to bird. I will admit that I can't be sure of that, though, as birds are the one major category of exotic pet that I've never kept. Another reviewer mentioned disliking the fact that they sell live animals but, in my opinion, they are treated so well here, and the owner definitely knows what she's doing. I'm in town visiting a friend and drove to 2 different pet food stores until I found Mary's. And I'm SO happy I did because she has everything your dog needs. The store is well organized, clean and the service is outstanding. I love the variety of holistic foods, raw foods, dry foods, treats, toys, leashes, reptiles in the back, dog beds, and really everything I could ask for. Being from NYC I love supporting small businesses but it's challenging to find a store that is a one stop shop. Mary's is WAY better than Petsmart. Plus she has discounts. AJ is the absolute best!!! I got Daisy at the Humane society almost 2 weeks now and Saturday the 9th I went in because she hadn't been eating for me and did not want to eat what the shelter sent us home with. AJ then gave me like 6 dog food samples for FREE! She would not take a tip or anything but instead said lets wait until we find out what she likes before you spend any money ... Who does that?! Ill tell you who, someone who is passionate about their job! I've known about this store for many years today was the first visit I've made. I was planning to go to pet supermarket but I decided to stop here and support a local small business. I'm glad I did. They have so much to choose from. The owner, Mary was so sweet. I didnt feel rushed or pushed to buy items but she let me take my time and look as I pleased. They have a huge selection of bird toys which is perfect because i have a bird that i spoil to death along with my dog. They carry raw frozen food and reputable dog and cat food. Which is good that shows the business owners care about what they are selling to pet parents. I went in for 1 thing and left out with more because there is something on every turn in this store. I found Mary's pet shop on Yelp since was in my area. I walked in & was immediately greeted by Mary & her grandson. I was walked around the store & inquired on their bird grooming & boarding services. Her prices are very fair & from my experience, I have now found my parrot groomer & boarding facilities. Very impressed & the entire business was an extremely positive experience. Mary's knowledge of birds made me know my parrot will be in great hands! I don't like that they sell animals. Especially exotics, but the shop owners are extremely knowledgeable. Definitely bring your pet along so they can choose the item they want. One minor issue that I have is how dusty it can be. For example, I grabbed an item that hasn't been touched for a long time apparently because it was topped with dust. Mary's lb is a family business since decades in the same place. I know them since about 1996. One of the last remaining quality pet supply stores in Miami/Fort lauderdale metro area in the desert of big chains/franchises. Their speciality is pet bird food and supplies( which I do not care about ) but they also have a large selection of other pet supplies and especially great, reasonably priced pet food. They are very knowledgeable and the store has a friendly, old neighborhood atmosphere and ambiance. Their location on West Dixie is not very fancy but okay, the neighborhood was probably better decades ago when they moved in. I need high quality food for my cats for a decent price and I keep on going to the store to stock up whenever I am in the area although I moved 20 miles away. I get my cockatiel's wings clipped here since it's quite a bit less expensive than taking the cockatiel to the vet just to get wings clipped. They have always handled the bird expertly and been extremely friendly. I was babysitting a friend's bunny last week and they also were very familiar with clipping a bunny's nails. This is my first review on Yelp, and I'm so happy to be writing it. I have had such a persistent tick problem with my pup, that nothing would work for more than maybe a day, if that. After spending so much on other medications, I went to Mary's, having remembered how helpful they were on my previous visit. The woman who helped me immediately knew exactly what I needed and gave me tips on how to properly remove the ticks I was finding. Used the product yesterday, and today-not a tick in sight! And my pup is so much more content. I'm so grateful this woman (Mary perhaps?) recommended this after so many useless recommendations from others. The prices were totally fair, and you can tell the people working at this mom & pop shop are really knowledgable and passionate about what they do. So rare to fine these days.
