I've walked by this place many times over the years but never stopped in... until this recent visit when a co-worker wanted BBQ and we were on Lower Broadway. They were rather busy when we got there on a weeknight around dinnertime. We found a table for 4 upstairs and about 5 mins after sitting down, the bartender waited on us. He was busy being bartender and as such, service was a little slow throughout the stay. The menu is loarge with many options. I was in the mood for nachos and got their Southern BBA Nachoes. They were decent, lots of peppers, which was nice, but slightly on the bland side when it came to the smokiness and flavor of the pork. A co-worker got a platter which came with their sausage and he shared that... this sausage was AMAZING! Smokey and sweet - packed with flavor. I wish they would dice that sausage up and put it on the bland nachos I got! The venue is the typical dirty, dingey place that many are on Lower Broadway... the music was horrible upstairs when we visited as it was a band that had a terrible single and played out of tune. I'm from Texas and was visiting Nashville on a business trip and a colleague recommended this place and I was hesitant due to being familiar with Texas BBQ. Well, the food did not disappoint. The ribs were excellent hot, tasty tender, and had a excellent sauce on them. Definitely a wet rib. In addition to that, I had their smoked wings which have an amazing crispy outside and have a really good dry rub on them. Have the green beans as aside and those are great and the cornbread muffins cannot be beat. Yes this is primarily a bar with live music and it's loud but their food is really good for being a bar. I don't know why so many people have posted negative reviews about it. As far as service goes, we sat at the bar, and I have no issues with our bartender. It took good care of us. read more

Oh my! Where to go in the Honky Tonk section which is on Broadway Street Nashville Tennessee. We walked up and down Broadway Street and landed at Rippy's. We were fortunate because this Bar had fabulous music and very good food. It was 26 degrees outside today and windy. Rippy's hit the spot. I had a BBQ chicken sandwich with baked beans and my wife had fried catfish. We enjoyed our meals. Very neat bar area. Fabulous band. Crowded with happy people. Not overly expensive. I had an opportunity to stop by on a recent trip to Nashville and after walking Broadway for a while, it was the sounds of the band that drew me in. I sat at the bar and Ordered a PBR and a two meat platter (sausage & ribs with a side dish of greens and another of Mac and cheese) and came away a happy boy. We were wandering down Broadway on a Saturday night looking for a place to pop in and grab dinner. We saw the menu on Rippy's door and decided it sounded good and filling to get us through the night. I wish we had found it earlier in our trip! The food was SO good. I was also really impressed with their cocktail menu. The bar was seat yourself during dinner, so we found a little back corner table near the bar. We had to place our order at the bar with the bartender. Our food came out so quickly! My husband and I split the Rippy's Smoked Pick Em with ribs and sausage. Our plate came with corn bread muffins, and we opted for double potato salad. After our meal, I'm convinced any of their sides would have been amazing. My brother ordered a simple chicken strip basket with fries. Even his basic meal was so good, especially the fries! The sausage from our platter was the best I've ever had at a BBQ place. The cornbread muffins were so good and really, the potato salad was too! Super happy with our meal here. Interesting setup here. Decent bar. Easy enough to get a drink. Not a lot of room to stand and watch the band who is tucked into a corner by the windows, but we made it work. Lots of tables and food service seems to be a priority for them. Some of the food that went by looked pretty good, too. If you're wrestling with whether to take a break from the music and grab a bite, at Rippy's you can do both. Just comparing the stages and performances of other performers, this fell quite far behind. Service was a bit slow upon our arrival, so I got up to ask two chatting cocktail servers about how to order. Instead of saying, "I'll send a server right over", they both said, "Oh, someone will be with you shortly". So I went back to my stool and waited another 3 minutes. In search of food while bar hopping, my husband and I decided to give this place a try. Pleasantly surprised can't possibly describe how we felt. When seated the upstairs floor seemed WALL TO WALL with patrons listening to the band. Meghan, the only waitress to be seen was running her ass off! The grey haired bar tender in the main bar seems to have an issue with those that don't sound or look like they're from the US. Myself and another man were treated very poorly by him. I accept that he was busy and was let down by management by not having anyone working with him, but he would probably benefit from some anger management classes. A shame as some of the bands here are great. I'll finish with an amusing anecdote for those that have bothered to read this far. The bar tender in question repeatedly and arrogantly informed me that I couldn't do what he does. During my 3 day trip to Nashville, this was my favorite food spot regarding the food itself. The beans were semi sweet and very tasty. I am not a cornbread fan but this cornbread was the best I've had. The pulled pork had the perfect amount of fat in it and had the perfect moisture. If I went again, I would likely get the same exact thing. The ribs looked to be pretty good as well. Unbelievably rude servers and very hostile bouncers! Walked in and went upstairs for some views and a drink, mid-Sunday afternoon. Asked the patio waitress for a beer when she gets a minute. I was greeted with a "I WILL GET TO YOU WHEN I GET TO YOU" with some anger in her tone. A table of people saw this interaction, and I turned to them and said Wow that was a bit rude. They agreed, said the service was terrible and they were trying to close their tab and leave. I decided to just get a drink from the bar instead of the waitress as she seemed very busy. I was greeted with two bouncers that told me I had to leave. I said, sure, but what did I do wrong? As I tried to go down the stairs to leave out the front, they said, no this way, and took me down the Patio stairs to the back alley. After asking again why I was asked to leave, another bouncer approached very aggressively, shoved me and said, "Do you want me to get the cops" I said, yes absolutely, you just put your hands on me." After the second shove, I shoved back, which in turn, lead to an attack. Every other bouncer and bar owner on Broadway, said those guys are D-Bags, and they are always looking for a fight. read more

They were friendly and the food came out very quick. The live music was also great. My wife ordered their their Southern BBQ Nachos which came with smoked pulled pork, queso, bbq sauce, jalapeños, tomatoes, and sour cream. I ordered their wet half slab of ribs.
