5/2025: I just realized I never posted my experience with Risas from last September. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I do know that I provided the same feedback from the 9/2024 verbiage below to them via a survey they sent out -- and they NEVER RESPONDED.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Now that I am getting this posted, I can include an update expressing further disgruntlement with Risas. After the subpar experience w/ Risas, I went back to my normal dentist this past May. Because it had been a couple years between visits, they needed a full mouth x-ray. I told them x-rays were taken about 6 mos ago at Risas. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When they called Risas to request the x-rays, they were refused. When I called Risas, I explained to the gal on the phone why I was calling (to grant permission to release the x-rays & ask why they refused to send them). She connected me to another office WITHOUT EXPLAINING TO THEM WHY I CALLED, so I had to repeat the explanation.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] That 2nd gal explained they did not "refuse" to send the x-rays but instead were unable to because 1) Risas did not take full-mouth x-rays, which is what my dentist needed, and 2) Risas was UNABLE TO LOCATE my partial x-rays anyway. Oh, they had a record that x-rays were taken but they were not to be found. She blamed it on a system update. Quite frankly, I blame it on incompetency & poor business practice. Just FYI, that same gal explained that Risas does not even take full-mouth x-rays UNLESS THEIR DOCTOR instructs them to do so. So I blew $96 with Risas visit for a half-ass cleaning & lost x-rays. I will never recommend Risas to anyone. 9/2024: I had been to the same dental office for 15+ yrs, every six months like clockwork. They did so much more at my appts than Risas did: poked at my gums around each tooth to measure the gum line, offered / suggested fluoride treatments every visit, cleaned AND polished, and removed any plaque buildup. All Risas did was take x-rays, floss and "clean" -- the floss came first which was ridiculous considering the grit of the "cleaning" goo got stuck in my teeth after. When the friendly gal said I was done after only two things, I was shocked, and did ask about the plaque removal process. She said my teeth were healthy enough it wasn't necessary. Uh yeah, they are healthy because every six months at my regular dentist the plaque was REMOVED. Now, however, whatever she didn't remove will be part of the build up for the next dental visit (at a real dentist's office). On top of the underwhelming experience with the doctor and hygienist, the gal who took my info at the appt time did not ask me to review the data she was inputting in, just asked me to sign; the x-ray machines weren't functioning properly, and the so-called receipt I was given was bare-bones. It did not mention any of the treatments (x-rays, floss, cleaning); it simply says my name, "pay" and the CC total. I was also surprised to discover that if you are referred by someone, if that someone uses insurance, they do not receive the $25 credit -- which I partially understand since she is not paying for the visit, the insurance is -- but 1) she may have a co-pay to worry about, which can be reduced by the $25 referral bonus, or 2) you can provide those people who make referrals with a $25 gift card somewhere as a thank you instead. read more

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Dentists & orthodontists are great, but whoever answers the phone needs an attitude check.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] First they told me retainers (top & bottom) were $250, I called them twice just to clarify. When I got in and was sitting on the chair, they told me $300 and said they couldn't honor the price given on the phone (I called again a few days later and was again told $250). I went ahead with it and was told it would be two weeks before I could pick up. Two weeks go by and nothing, so I called and ask when I could pick them up. Whoever picked up told me they were ready but I'd have to come in when the orthodontist was in. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They told me I could come in the next day (a Saturday) but I couldn't because of a funeral. Then she told me okay Monday...? And I said I'm in school from 8-5 during the week typically. Then she proceeded to tell me then the next weekend he'll be in is TWO WEEKS AWAY.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]She was being so rude and giving so much tude that I actually hung up on her and came into the office.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I said I'm here to pick up my retainers and gave her my name. Dr Groscost is an excellent dentist he always is kind and patient with me to receive great dental care. Ruby G his assistant was excellent from beginning to end of extended treatment today. Came in today with my 6 year old daughter for some fillings . I was immediately greeted by the front office staff and promptly admitted to the treatment room where I was introduced to the assistant Blanca she was great ! She had cartoons going which was very nice of her to do. My daughter was a champ with the anesthetic Dr.Smith was very calming and very reassuring explaining to my daughter on what was happening . They are sure quick to get your money for braces but yet you can't get in for even a consult if you need the oral surgeon before you get your braces. They literally tell you that they don't know what their schedule is for the next month and to call back at the end of every month to see if there are any openings. Braces were purchased in November and it's now February, I'm requesting a refund. read more

I came here after my father referred me a while back. I had not see a dentist in years. I finally got dental coverage through my new job and I someone told me oral health lead to good heart health so I thought it was time for a good cleaning schedule. After they took x rays I wasn't able to provide my providers details correctly and the assistant advised me that she could only give me out of pocket cash prices for their services. I thought that was kinda unwelcoming given the fact that I had coverage, the assistant just needed to call in the next day to get my info. I tried to open conversation with the dentist, at that time I was worked at synchrony in the Care Credit department, (an out of house financing options dental offices including this one use and indorse.) The dentist was so short with me, I asked him how his experience was working with care credit. he said "good". and then proceeded to talk about results with his assistant. The only thing he was so interested in was how long it had been since I last been to a dentist. I told him "a long time"...years probably. Then he insisted ones again, no, no but exactly how many years has it been. At this point I felt a little disrespected and I exaggerated and said 6 years sir it's been 6 years. So the assistant goes on to give me all the cash prices, witch had no relevance to me since I was 100% sure I had dental coverage. I thanked her and left. The next day I call to update my dental information and make an appointment. The front desk assistant tells me that the person that was helping me is currently unavailable and to contact the dental office during certain hours. The calls went back and forth 2 or 3 times and I gave up. Extremely disappointed with my experience, I needed encouragement and this place honestly did the opposite. read more

Wow, first time coming to any Risas location and this one is 4 minutes away from my house. I had an issue with my filling coming out on Tuesday and was able to schedule an appointment that Friday. Super easy and user-friendly website to schedule appointments. The staff was super efficient and knowledgeable. I'm a super scary cat of dentist offices (reason why I have switched to my 3rd dentist office) and always dread the filling out of paperwork and X-rays, but these ladies had it down with technology and X-ray machines. Got seen by Dr. Groscost and the prognosis was not bad at all from what I thought...and even better yet, they were able to get the filling in and a deep cleaning on the same appointment (at 5:00 in the evening, mind you)! So excited to have FINALLY found a dentist office I can make myself a regular patient of (never thought I'd say that!). Will definitely be bringing my husband next!! read more

At first I was skeptical because we have Ahcccs and from other dentist office visits we were treated like just 'another ahcccs patient' and expected the overcrowded office, rude and impatient staff, BUT it wasn't like that at all at this office! I was extremely pleased how we were treated like we were The MOST important people in that office! I was impressed at how quickly I was able to have my daughter seen and as soon as we arrived, we were greeted and everyone was so sweet. I used to recommend this dentist until today. I called and advised that I have just broken a tooth and asked if I can be seen. They said yes be sure to be there before 5 pm. I drove up there and they advised they don't allow walk ins. I call the number back and they advised they are required to take emergency walk ins from 8-5. So I arrive at office 1 hour prior to opening to check in as a walk in and as I patiently wait to office to open watching all the employees make there way in to work a person shows up before opening hours and is checked in by a employee who I don't know her name but is a moody ass pregnant young lady who I mention I was patiently waiting for them to open and respecting there business hours to check in and her best reply was I could leave by saying so I want to be seen or not! I had an emergency extraction on June 17th, 2020, I am now on hold for the 5th time and it's been 20 minutes on hold. My insurance paid for the extraction and I cannot get these people to refund my money! I just spoke with a super rude person named Nancy who took my email address for the 3rd time and said they would call me back. I had a total of 7 teeth pulled 5 on top and an upper parcel that I cannot wear because it is not fitted right! After sitting in the office for over an hour while a tech ground on my parcel to try and get a better fit (seemed he had no idea what he was doing) I left! This has been a nightmare! Just had braces put in more than a month ago and my next closest appointment they can give me isn't till January and they haven't been adjusted once. Go to another location if you're trying to get your teeth straight within a good amount of time because by this point I'll have them on for a few years. Go somewhere else since they might be bringing in a lot of new patients and not taking care of the people who already have paid for the service in full. Just an fyi. They have offered free dental care on multiple different days, and the staff is very friendly. They are open late, and offer payment plans. I was treated by DR. A. WEIR. HE is an amazing Dentist. assistants were friendly and professional. My disappointment came with the billing department first appointment i was given my total price amount. i paid with a check.my next appointment the young lady in billing came into my treatment area and told me that i was paid up and would receive a refund check in a few weeks.I proceeded and completed my scheduled treatments. my last day another lady from billing told me i had to pay another $1000.00for the lower partial and $198.00had to be returned. which meant i had to give them $1198.00.when i asked why ,she claims my ins. company would not cover the work done. I called my ins. {physicians mutual ins. }they informed me that Risas dental never submitted a claim for this work. that billing department is incompetent, unprofessional i am never going back there.nor will i recommend them. read more

I tried calling phx, tempe and chandlar location to make a downpayment for my braces treatment and the person taking calls which im assuming is the one taking calls for all locations they just forwarded to that line, anyways the person whose name was marylynn or hillary supposedly said i needed to see a orthodontist when I literally had just gone in for a consultation and they took x rays docotor even came in And he said that I could wait to get my wisdom teeth pulled and that I could get my braces in already he also said that all I had to do was come back and get my down payment for for my plan and that I would be receiving the races but this person that I spoke with on the phone supposedly said I needed to do another exam or see another orthodontist before I got my braces when I just had just gotten in the last week for that exact same exam. So either the dentist lied to me dr wier at 16st and southern in phx location. I do not appreciate being treated like this. They also put me on hold for more than 10 mins on everytime i called a different location. And when i asked to speak to someone else i was told no one was available. I am down on my luck on Medicaid when a tooth broke causing severe pain. I called and let them know I was on Medicaid and was told to come in for an emergency extraction. First appointment I was given pain pills and antibiotics and sent home for a week. Next appointment and two bad teeth was pulled that had previously had root canals done but was told that I need to see a dental surgeon and none work out of the South Mountain office. I went home with a referral and was told pain meds would be prescribed. A couple hours later and severe pain set in. I called the pharmacy and nothing. Several hours of calling the dentist and no prescriptions were sent till after the pharmacies were closed. I finally drove to the office and demanded help as the pain was excruciating where a counter person called in a prescription and I finally found relieve at 830pm that night. Week later I let them know that I was still in lots of pain and was out of pain pills and the surgeon they referred me to can't see me till the end of the month. Was told I would get a prescription for more pain pills and to keep the appointment at the end of the month with the surgeon. This was noon and No prescription was sent till the next morning. I was in so much pain I couldn't sleep. I didn't do anything. I am wondering if the doctor doesn't care because I'm on Medicaid something he knew when he accepted me as a patient. Before COVID 19 I was a chauffeur in the hospitality industry where I made good money and I had dental insurance. Now I'm delivering pizzas trying to feed my family and now all I have is Medicaid. Did this doctor feel the need to make me suffer because I'm on Medicaid? I didn't do anything wrong. I don't understand why I was made to suffer. I've never been treated like this before. My phone call log shows I spent all day the Saturday that I had two teeth removed that were not causing me pain and then yesterday where I called all day begging for the doctor to call the pharmacy to give them my prescription. I've been to other dentists where they gave me paper prescriptions but was refused this simple service and in the end was at the mercy of the dentist who did not think my suffering was a priority something that runs contrary to the recording that plays while waiting on hold when calling them up. I am very sorry for being on Medicaid right now.. everything is outside my control. The whole side of my head is lit up. Feels like I'm being stabbed in the ear. It's just so unfair. I didn't do anything to deserve this. If you have a problem with someone being on Medicaid just turn them away, you don't have a right once you accept someone to mistreat them. Any other dentist wouldn't have treated me like this as I've been to other dentists and was always treated with compassion and prompt service when it comes to pain. The price was very reasonable, total duration was about 8 months, and I saw results of my teeth shifting in less than a month. Most importantly absolutely No pain after adjustments!!!
