I ordered on DoorDash so I can't say anything about the vibe of the store or anything, but I've only heard good things. Now my coffee however, very disappointed. I ordered the snickers in hopes it would be sweet but not overpowering. Maybe that was my mistake. I saw it and I was already nervous. The entire drink was dark brown. It looked like chocolate milk. Which idk, maybe that's what it's supposed to look like, but oh my goodness I couldn't even taste the extra shot of espresso I ordered. Literally straight hersheys syrup. So I poured half of it out, added some almond milk and it's still pretty concentrated. Idk I'm not the kind of person to veto a place for making one bad drink, but I like my coffee to taste like coffee lol. Hopefully next time I go it does! My wife and I stumbled across this coffee shop when the restaurant nearby had too long of a wait and we needed a caffeine fix pronto. Immediately I liked the vibe-it's an edgy, totally local and co-created space with folks from the area. There is a bulletin board in the vestibule with fliers and posters about current events and services-totally haphazard and chaotic. Inside, there's art all over the place, unique decor and a calendar of events that look to be different support groups that meet here. How cool. This isn't a polished, bougie or uptight place. This is for real folks with real personalities and a bit of grit. And I like it. The coffee's pretty good too. ;-) read more

We are from Idaho but come here whenever we can. I usually get the Snickerfucker got it iced this time and was very pleased with it. They also sell local artists art right off the wall. So after going to this coffee shop for a year and a half, I have to change my rating again. Customer service here is awesome but the execution of drinks is hit or miss. From my previous posts you can see I've mentioned this before and they fixed it - temporarily. The last few times I've been, the drinks are back to being watered down tasting. They're always happy to remake a drink, but there's no point as it tastes the same. I said it before, I want to love this place, but it's just too disappointing to continually get sub par drinks. read more

I got a dirty chai, and it was very bitter, probably one of my least favorite dirty chais. The staff are nice, no issues there. Overall, I would still come back and try something else. I just want to start off by saying that this is my new favorite coffee shop. Absolutely LOVE the atmosphere! Lots of skulls, beautiful and unique artwork, and cozy couches. The secret menu has delicious drinks with fun names. I have loved every drink that I've tried from the secret menu so far. The baristas that work here are very sweet and friendly. Another thing that makes this place absolutely amazing is the variety of addiction support groups that are held here (e.g., A.A., N.A., C.A., H.A., COD.A.). There were a few folks either studying or working there. The music switched from some punk to J. Cole during my visit, and I appreciated the variety. The barista was friendly. This shop seemed hidden but boy am I glad I found it. Here's the breakdown of my experience (gone twice so far): Atmosphere: I went in the morning and it wasn't really busy, there's space to sit down if you want to study or hangout, whatever you wanna do. Drinks: I got the "Basic Bxtch" which is a pumpkin-flavored drink, and also a the "Dark side" which was dark chocolate, caramel, and Irish cream. Both of these drinks were delightful, I think I prefer the dark side over the basic bxtch though just because that's my taste palette. Yummy! Service: the same worker helped me out on both visits and she is wonderful. She's real funny too Overall: good coffee that is reasonably priced and they have a good selection of drinks. I heard about this place from friends and wanted to check out the coffee situation. I like my coffee strong and black. No sugar, fruity flavors, or cream. Dustin made a very special cup of ice brewed coffee. He asked what I like, and made it for me. It was nice and strong and hit the spot. I've been there a couple more times to get some work done. WiFi speed is excellent and there are several isolated areas to sit and work, with no one to bother your concentration. People are very friendly and the place is very clean. It was tough trying to choose which coffee spot to go to! We always try to find a nice local shop to grab coffee. What sold us was the sense of humor they had in their "secret menu" which isn't really a secret as it's displayed for everyone to see. Not a bad thing at all! How else would you know? My fiancé decided on the snicker fucker (he's got a major sweet tooth, and how could he say no to something that tastes like a snicker bar?). The barista suggested to order it warm, and he was right! Really good! When I tasted it, personally it reminded me of a hot cocoa with a nutty kick, and has the aftertaste of melted marshmallow. I ordered an iced nutty Irishman. I can't even remember what was in this, but when he said macadamia nut, I was sold. Of course there is a kick of Irish cream in there! Probably my favorite coffee I've had in a while! Every time I review a local coffee spot, I feel like Bart Simpson writing on the chalkboard, "I am not going to go on another rant about how much I hate coffee shop culture". So I won't. I only bring it up to say that Rise & Grind is free of the pretentiousness that many local shops are often rife with. Sadly, I can't get out here nearly as much as I'd like to, because I live just a little too far away. I first found out about Rise & Grind back when it was Red Eye (gotta be honest, much prefer that name); they host an AA meeting every Sunday morning which is probably the only AA meeting I've ever actually halfway enjoyed, and I attribute it to the coffee. Even though I have my qualms with AA, it's pretty fucking selfless of Rise n Grind to hold a meeting (assuming they still do). If my vulgarity in the previous sentence is jarring for you, you may have problems here. The menu has a healthy sense of humor with names such as, "not a fucking caramel macchiato" and "snicker fucker" to name a few. I've taken a tour around the menu, tasted quite a few, and I've found everything to be either good or fantastic. It's coffee, you know what you like. I don't find everything here to be *5 star worthy* but there are certain drinks that for sure make the grade. The shop itself is nothing special, but they've got some comfy couches and fun artwork. What more could you really want? As far as local coffee shops go, Red Eye?? Rise and Grind?? is one of my favorites. Wish ya'll were much closer, but in my neck of the woods, we're Beans n' Brews or bust, it would appear. read more

Ordered a decaf coffee, girl behind the counter told me it had an Earl Gray tea type of flavor, I thought "hmm, interesting, ok, I'll try it" definitely tastes like tea, not at all like coffee, Why on earth would you do that? Really cute coffee place across the street where my dad went to high school, so I felt like I was seeing a little bit of history when I went there. The coffee shop itself is very small. It's basically just one little room. The menu is on a chalkboard and is pretty straightforward, but the "secret menu" seems to be the shining gem of this place. It's "secret," but it's really not because, well, it's literally right on the wall in front of you. But the secret menu options are super quirky and interesting sounding and make for a better-than-average flavored coffee. The coffee didn't have a bitter, burnt taste here, which tends to be what I experience in some other shops. It was hot so I got iced coffee with almond milk and it ended up being a cheap $2. Delicious, interesting, and a diverse mix of coffee selections at Red Eye. We stopped in late on a Friday for a coffee treat in lieu of giving in to our dessert cravings, and hit the jackpot. Our jackpot was two-fold; (1) John, one of the newer owners. He was truly the highlight of our visit. Lucky for us there was a meeting in the front just breaking up, and we were entertained for the next 35 minutes of captivating conversation with John. We analyzed and solved the world's problems in just over half an hour. It was magical. Anyone's day or night would be noticeably improved by even a short visit with John. (2) The Darkside. Dark roast with dark chocolate. No caramel or vanilla to overpower the purity of this achievement. I finished mine during our discourse with John, and wanted to order another. The option of sleeping later won, but I easily could have sipped on another 16 oz of this deliciousness. Some of the other options on their menu appear to be standard, and then there's the "Not So Secret" menu. These selections must be explained, and are titled to make you ask. These guys have a great sense of humor with a very intelligent edge. So refreshing to see in Utah! We also met Dustin, John's brother. He was equally as entertaining. We will come here when we're in this part of town; and possibly even when we're not so closeby. And not just for the coffee. I can imagine that Red Eye gets busy during the day. I usually really love it here, and have an amazing experience with my drinks and how laid back and quiet the shop is, so I feel bad leaving as low of a review. But I seriously cannot understand why the grumpy oaf of a man (if youve beeen here you know who I'm talking about) works here when he cant make a nearly decent drink, or let alone be friendly in the slightest to his customers, especially considering I'm a pretty frequent one. Change your sh/t attitude and don't give people sugar free vanilla without letting them know because you're too lazy to offer other options, of which I'd gladly accept, and maybe I'll change my review. Not to mention, he was *blaring* at top volume whatever he was watching, so I couldn't focus on my homework or even hear my own thoughts. It's sad that I have to give such a poor review because of this one employee, but seriously someone tell him to get it together and smile a little bit, or at least make a coffee worth the $5 I pay.
