My girlfriend and I specifically went to Adams Morgan today to try Rise Bakery, and it was AMAZING!!! I have celiacs and I have spent the last few years looking for a bakery that I can really enjoy and I have finally found it. Today we bought chocolate croissants, a raspberry chocolate muffin, a chocolate carmel nutella cupcake, and a four pack of everything bagels. I have to say that the chocolate croissants are out-of-this-world good. I am excited to try everything else they have and I hope they plan on attending every D.C. festival and street fair. My only complaint is that Rise Bakery is not next door to my apartment because it would make every morning that much better. read more

This place makes the most "convincing" gluten-free baked goods I've managed to find since my wife was diagnosed with celiac disease. I'm a huge fan of bagels, and theirs are dense, chewy, and delicious the way a bagel should be. I've had a few of their deserts, including the cupcakes and cinnamon rolls and they were great as well. Often, I find that gluten-free baked goods use the same overly sweet rice flour and I was pleasantly surprised to see that isn't the case here at Rise. My wife has had symptoms after eating out at other establishments that bill themselves as gluten free and after two or three visits that hasn't been the case here. read more

I had an everything bagel with cream cheese, a ham & cheese croissant, and a coffee. the bagel was waaayyyy too heavy/dense and the cream cheese was one of those tiny single-serving pods of philadelphia. not enough cream cheese, especially considering the heft of the bagel. no milk for the coffee. anywhere in the bakery! they had no milk at all. half & half or creamer, though. but THE CROISSANT I will dream of Rise's croissants for the rest of my gluten-free life. This place is great! Staff person was super nice. We went on a weekday, during the day, so it wasn't busy at all. I can imagine it's a tight squeeze when it gets busy. Tried the ham and cheese croissant and cinnamon raisin bagel in store and got a bunch of stuff to go, including the pumpkin cream cheese muffin. Everything was delicious. The bagel tasted pretty good. Yes, certainly more dense than their non-gluten counterparts, but that was expected. Amazing pastries! I'm still very much in awe that everything here is gluten-free. The selection looked great and had me drooling. My friend and I ordered red velvet cupcakes and flourless chocolate cake. The cupcakes were moist and had very decadent cream cheese icing. The flourless chocolate cake CANNOT BE MISSED. It was thick and rich and just begged for a tall glass of milk. We got there right at 5:30 (it's closing time) but the bakery employee let us order and stay while we ate which was incredibly kind. Being that I am NOT a Red Velvet fan, I was skeptical. But it was highly recommended. Turned out to be my fav! How can this be!?!? All the flavors, moist, and perfection with no sacrifice. I am gluten-free not by choice and am always in search of good gluten-free bakeries. I went to this bakery at after hearing all the fuss and seeing the great reviews however was disappointed. I got a chocolate croissant, chocolate cupcake and bag of 4 plain bagels. Not trying to be a negative Nancy but none of it was good. The croissant was extremely dense and tasted nothing like a croissant, the bagels too were extremely dense and I struggled to eat just 1/2 of the bagel and the cupcake, frankly I've made gluten-free cupcakes that taste better. Also, while I am use the the higher cost of gluten-free items, I spent over $20 for the 3 items and ended up throwing it all away after a few bites. Maybe my taste buds are different but I've had better free gluten free bakery items. I personally would not recommend this bakery to any of my colleagues, friends or family. Just my opinion. Maybe they had a bad batch or bad day, regardless, I won't be wasting my money again. People like what they like so if you like then continue to enjoy. If you have never been then I recommend proceeding with caution and venturing there only if you truly have money to throw away. read more

Just ordered from here for the first time. Really disappointed. First, the order was wrong - I got a breakfast biscuit sandwich with egg and cheese, and it came with bacon. Luckily I'm not a vegetarian or practicing Muslim, so this was merely annoying instead of completely fucked up. Food also isn't that good; cheese from breakfast sandwich was completely melted to the paper, but it wasn't even hot, it had melted and then got cold. Here, everything I've tried so far shows that fresh-baked quality here makes a big difference. The heated croissants eaten in-house are EXQUISITE, like an awesome birthday and Christmas rolled into one edible treat. Was sadly unimpressed with this bakery after reading such great reviews. We ordered an assortment of pastries to try and they all fell short. I understand that gluten free items can often be more dry but they also didn't have much flavor. Rise bakery specializes in gluten-free baked goods in Washington DC. I had the pleasure to try their Nutella gluten free brownie. I was really impressed for a gluten free item to be this tasty. In the past any gluten baked item I tried has been a miserable flavor and product, whether if it was too dry, too gritty, lacked flavor, etc. because of that I would make gf baked goods only at home. I'm impressed that rise bakery got this down it tastes exactly like a regular brownie, you can't taste the difference. I think their prices are fair as they are in dc and are selling gf baked goods. The gf Nutella brownie was packed with flavored and tasted cake like. Let's see where do i begin? Ok.. I was in DC with a group of 8 for the Army 10 miler, so of course it's only right to eat our way through the city and try bakeries. One of the girls that was a part of our group also my maid of honor, has stomach issues and has to eat gluten and dairy free foods. She has a GF/DF app that gives a list of GF/DF restaurants and bakeries. So with it popping up on her app she wanted to try it. Myself and a few other ppl in the group eat DF/GF items every now and then so we know what to expect as far as taste and texture.. ...So we get around trying it on our quest. We get there and there was 1 person in front of us. There was 1 worker that was working as cashier and the person who was bagging the goodies. So we waited and waited a little longer. We stood there for about 10-15 min while the cashier is now helping the person in front of us. They kept going back and forth as to what this guy wanted. Meanwhile, there was a worker standing in the corner drying dishes (I assume) that's what he was doing. Also, there were more ppl that came in behind us. Now they have a small line with 1 girl working , 1 guy just standing in the corner like (shrugs, I'm clearly washing/drying dishes and have no desire to help), and then 2 more employees emerge from the back. These 2 just come out messed around for a little and then the girl decides to help ppl. I guess bc I had a disgusted look on my face and looked at her and the guy like I know you see these ppl.. Make yourself useful!! Onto the goodies.. That didn't taste so good * Now after our wait and FINALLY getting service we were able to order. My friend orders a Lemon Raspberry Cupcake and a Chocolate Cupcake. Lemon Frosting and Raspberry Cupcake. Chocolate cupcake with pumpkin frosting and sugared pumpkin seeds on top. She said the cupcakes were very dry and didn't have the flavor they were named to be. They tasted like a regular cupcake. Her mom also ordered the Nutella Brownie. Her mom said it had good flavor but was a little dry. She also got a bag of bagels out of the freezer. She said they were DISGUSTING. The bagels were dense and straight onion flavored. As she bite into it and started to chew, she immediately started spitting it back out. I ordered the Nutella Brownie and a Snickerdoodle Cookie. The Nutella brownie was ok. Just average nothing special. The Snickerdoodle didn't taste like Snickerdoodle cookie. It had a shortbread flavor and was hard as crap. I broke a piece off to give to my husband and it just crumbled and was like saw dust texture. VERY crispy!! Overall we won't be back. Visiting DC I was looking for somewhere I could find some gluten free baked goods. Not only is this place 100% gluten free, it is delicious. I bought some everything bagels to take home and as far a GF goes, they are pretty damn good (toasted is better). They also have croissants. I've never even heard of someone attempting that. They were yummy and as close to a real croissant as I've had in the 3 years I have been gf. Basically, if you are gluten free, you need to come here and eat all the things. I finally made it to this place. It is pretty good, just know if you go- it is a VERY small place, only two tables. So take out is probably the best way to go. I had the Everything bagel breakfast sandwich. The bagel was very flavorful and the bacon was cooked the way I like it (asked for it to be really crisp) The egg portion of the sandwich is good but a little big for the bagel,,,but it was all very tasty. My friend ordered a turkey / pesto panini and really liked it. I also ordered a chocolate croissant but it tasted like it was a day old, not warm,...a little stale & the chocolate in the middle was hard and not that tasty. It's a good thing I don't live next door to Rise Bakery.....I'd be in there all the time! After my son and I had to go gluten free about a year ago, we've missed having the occasional brownie or cake, etc. When I found RISE, all that changed. We've used them for three events now and every time they exceed our expectations. From the chocolate croissants to a large, gluten free sheet cake - everything we get there is beyond delicious. Not only that - they deliver! What could be better? Even though we live in Silver Spring, just a little outside their delivery boundary, their driver decided to go ahead and deliver our order on a Saturday! That was great. We ordered a large sheet cake for my son's HS graduation and everyone loved it. It was moist and yummy. I can't say enough good things about RISE! Try it - you won't be disappointed. read more

Love that Rise Bakery is friendly to all sorts of allergies, with dairy, egg, soy, and nut ingredients clearly marked. As someone that was recently put on a gluten-free diet, I would argue that it goes a little too far to say that I couldn't tell the difference. Really cute little bakery, amazing that it is gluten free and vegan friendly! My friend is gluten free and I am vegan, and we were both very pleased with the options available. My friend said the croissant is better than any she had before ditching gluten! I had the carrot cake cupcake and banana bread and it didn't taste gritty like I sometimes think gluten free tastes, and had good texture and flavor overall for vegan options and baked goods options in general! I travel to Adams Morgan once a week and always make effort and time to stop here for chocolate croissant and coffee. You can seat by the window and watch the view (people passing by) reading at leisure or listening to music while biding your time. Such relaxation is, nowadays, a luxury with so much noise and anxiety. Part of it comes from the very friendly staff and management, of course. This bakery should be renamed "Celiac Heaven". This was the best gluten free bakery I've ever been to. The brioche bread, cupcakes, everything was fantastic! It's comforting to know the owner has celiac disease himself, that alone makes me feel safe knowing they are not attempting to appeal to the gluten free fad dieters but to the people like me that must eat gluten free (I have an epi-pen on me all the time, unfortunately have had to use it at other bakeries that claimed to be gluten free). The eat in option is great if you are in the area and want a fresh treat, but note that the eating space is tiny. We would also take some things to go. We relocated away from the area and now have items shipped. The items that can be shipped are more limited and the ordering process isn't terribly smooth, but we've been happy with how well our frozen croissants and breads have tasted. I walked past this bakery one day and was really excited because I saw it said "gluten free" on the outside. My mom is gluten free and loves dessert so I wanted to surprise her with something. I bought a piece of the flourless chocolate cake and a carrot cake cupcake. My mom - who LOVES dessert and is VERY content with almost anything, i.e. easy to please - said the chocolate cake was flavorless and not very sweet. The next day she tried the carrot cake cupcake and said it was quote "awful" and as flavorless as the chocolate one, and she didn't taste any spices like you would expect in carrot cake. She only ate half of the cupcake. My mother does not NOT finish dessert. So it had to be pretty bad for her to only eat half. Overall I am very disappointed. We walked from our Airbnb with our dog and took turns going in to get what we wanted. At first sight, I thought it looked pretty plain, but the service was really friendly. I grabbed a chocolate croissant. My wife got a ham and cheese one. We also got avocado toast and an everything bagel for later, and that was all very good too.
