What a great discovery! My wife and I found the place after watching the Rockies lose again. We were walking back to our car and spotted this little comedy theatre tucked in around 22nd Street and Market. We decided to check it out and went to an improvisation show last night. I'm a "Whose Line Is It Anyway" kind of person and we saw a show last night. Fresh and hilarious. It's a small theatre with a bar that somehow survived the pandemic. My wife and I declared the place our "change of pace" place and added it to our growing list of spots to go to be part of society again. We also feel that we'd make it a place to take friends from out of town to see a different type of spot in the city. We don't plan on going every week, but it's something fun and different. read more

This is a personal account of my experience. If you are not in the comedy scene, you will not like it here. The existing shows are not worth spending a dollar on, because they are not funny. They are not funny because they rely on people who do not have proper training. They rely solely on nepotism to staff their shows. There is no hope for anyone new to Denver or new to Comedy to ever get "in." Their audience on weekends is a third full, and it is usually the friends of performers or other performers. People learn that it is more awkward to sit through a really bad improv show than it is to do...anything else. I would not recommend going here to anyone that values comedy or theatre. If you want in, and buy in to their lackluster classes, run by friends of the owner (again, nepotism) do not expect a professional training. The majority of people there are socially awkward and have small-minded thinking. The gift for getting to level 601? A literal piece of paper that a 3-year old could have drawn. Any feedback will be taken as criticism, and you will be banned from coming again, instead of met with professionalism and respect. They teach people to not accept new people into the scene. They openly trash new people, with more clout, experience and personality. Any new person is seen as a threat, not an asset. It is a backward-ass way of doing things, so be aware. If you enjoy paying $15 for a drink, or "LA Prices" then come here. You can thank the owners for driving up the price of realty in Denver, too. The prices for shows are outrageous, considering they are NOT professionals. It is mere practice for amateurs hour. They recycle the same players or "friends" through every show, every week, and expect people not to notice. This theatre will not last more than a few years, just like all the theatres before it in Denver. I cant wait to watch THAT. read more

I've been here a couple of times now, it makes for a fun evening with something different for downtown than just the bar scene. It's improv comedy and audience interaction is encouraged. They have different themes depending on the evening, I've experienced Hitchcock and Shakespeare. The players are good, obviously not professionals but they have talent and seem to play well off of each other. The pricing is affordable, and they have a full bar in the front. The only real downside is the seating, it's just uncomfortable table chairs arranged in front of the stage, and you will be interrupted by others getting up for drink refills or bathroom breaks. For something different, make a night of the neighborhood and include Voodoo in it, it's a good place to get a laugh in. read more

Multiple live shows are offered many nights, and if you pay for one, you can usually stick around and watch the others or socialize in the bar area with comfortable seating. You can take classes for improv, musical improv, sketch writing and standup. Plus, free admission to shows is often offered for motivation and encouragement. If you're not sure you want to take classes, a sample drop in class is offered weekly so you can see if it's up your alley. So worth it! read more

Great venue for a fun night of improv comedy. The theater is intimate with comfy chairs and excellent acoustics. The bar and roomy waiting area make it easy to grab a drink and socialize between shows. The bathrooms are a little bit of a hassle as they require a hike and a code. read more

This was such a miss. I went to a phenomenal show at Comedy Works and was excited for more comedy. Voodoo has good reviews and I kept driving by, so I finally decided to check it out. It was night and day different from comedy works and from what I was expecting. Let me mention I went on a Tuesday Night. First the actual place is tiny with fold up chairs. That doesn't bother me, I figure a more intimate show. They have a nice bar with $6 beers, not bad. But the people (can't use the word actors/comedians) were just not funny or polished. I felt how parents must feel when they have to sit through their children's awful performances in a high school gymnasium. Lucky for me, I was able to escape. The Hughes School Musical and Funny AF were not enjoyable to me. It felt like the people on the stage were just practicing and the price of my ticket was a donation. I wanted to like this place, and I feel bad leaving this review but these were just not good performances and not quality entertainment in any way, shape or form. Perhaps it gets better on a weekend night, but I have no intention of finding out. Getting tickets ASAP to comedy works to restore my faith in laughter. read more

This was one of the best dates I have ever been on. Superb improve with awesome entertainment all night. I laughed so hard my face hurt. I loved the drinks as well, you could tell the bar tender knew what he was doing. This was just what I needed after a long week. Loved every moment can't wait to go back! Visited last night to see The Agency stand up comedy show. Was very disappointed as none of the comedians were funny and the bar was overpriced. On a good note, though, the staff was very friendly, the atmosphere was good, and there wasn't a 2 drink minimum. We attended the Rise Comedy Standup show and had an amazing time! While not all of the acts were of equal level (everyone has their own sense of humor), overall it was a really good show. The bartender was amazingly friendly and you could tell he loved his job. The other two owners were equally friendly and wanted to make sure you enjoyed your stay. I would definitely go again. Due to the small venue I would recommend to bring some type of year protection if loud crowds tend to bother you. read more

Checked out the Jesters Court last night and it was amazing! The improvisers were truly talented and made the audience feel super comfortable. This was my first time going to improv or anything comedy related and it was a great first experience. I would definitely recommend Voodoo Comedy Playhouse and especially the Jesters Court to anyone and everyone. Voodoo is probably my favorite improv theater in Denver with the coolest vibe and atmosphere. It is very laid back, you have the bar upfront serving a variety of bottled beers and drinks, and the theater on the back. Once you pay for your ticket, you can see various shows, spend time in the bar, and there are no minimum drinks requirements or fixed seating. After the shows, you can stay for more drinks or kareoke. I've seen various shows and they've all been hillarious, and I love that is located in the Ballpark neighborhood read more

If you need some laughs, this is your place! Went here for date night and couldn't complain about a thing! The shows are absolutely hilarious and the atmosphere is great! This place is a nice local comedy spot. We saw a short show here on date night after dinner and it was fun. The bathroom is in a weird location. We didn't have drinks at the bar before or after but I like that this is an option and it looked like a nice lounge area. We saw a couple from L.A. who did improv - it was okay funny. I'm hard to impress so it wasn't fantastic comedy to me but as someone was has appreciation for performing arts, this is a nice local spot that has true passion for keeping small acts alive. read more

I do a little improv at home, and when on the road I thought it would be fun to see a show. They had a day when all their students performed and a lot of them were really good. I had to buy a ticket, but the good thing was there was no drink minimum like most places by me. If you know anything about improv, they perform Long Form. Which is improv for improvisers. People that have experience in improv like to see the long form. Most general audiences like a short for "Whose line is it anyways..." kinda thing. We went to the Valentine's day show and had a good time. The comedy was ok, we laughed for sure. The acts vary, but that's ANY comedy club. It's a decent venue in a cool part of the city. I went online and bought tickets to tonight's (a Wednesday) 8:00 and 9:00 shows, paying $10 each. I arrived and was immediately told that the 9:00 show is free if I paid for the 8:00 (nowhere on the website is this mentioned). I'm not refunded my money but instead I'm given a voucher for a free show. Whatever. I don't complain because I'm sure it will be good and I'll want to come back anyway. Then the improv began with the 8:00 troupe. I am a fairly seasoned improviser myself and have seen many shows where admission is charged. It quickly became apparent that it should NOT have been charged in this case. These were beginners. And I have no problem with beginners getting up there and giving it a go. But you do not CHARGE for beginner performances - and certainly not $10. I stayed thinking the 2nd troupe at 8:30 would be better. They were also beginners. I got up and left shortly after their performance began, foregoing the 9:00 show. I voiced my displeasure to the very friendly woman working box office. I wasn't mean, because I wasn't trying to put down the players. But management needs to understand that when you charge for something like improv, a certain level of skill is expected. I really don't want to write this. But I must. I may. I will. I am. This place was not fun. I laughed, a little, very little. We went to Modern Dating: Unscripted! 3 Blind Dates. I was hoping. Really hoping. For a roll on the floor kind of laugh attack. It wasn't. And it wasn't just the show. It was the venue. Good part? Getting a beer at Happy Hour across the street at the Whiskey Bar before the show. Then the show... People walking in front of us to go to the restroom. Oh, the restroom is down the hall and around the corner near Biker Jim's. Now the best part. Biker Jim's is around the corner. After the show, they offered free admission to the next show...but after the paying people sat down. I wasn't waiting... Especially for a seat watching people traipse to and from the restroom. Next time...a beer at Whiskey Bar and a laugh watching the silly patrons. Then a beer and dog at Biker Jim's. read more

We hit this place on a whim after deciding 30 minutes earlier that comedy would be a good way to kick off Saturday night. I was able to easily check out the evening's lineup and buy tickets to The Chris Miller Show on my phone within a few minutes, +1 star for a well-designed mobile site. But I digress, on to the good stuff - Would definitely recommend The Chris Miller Show, the dude is funny as hell and he put together a solid lineup of other comics, some with Comedy Central cred. There were more than a few laugh till it hurt moments and some strange, what I would call 'experimental' comedy (dude read a modified adult version of Green Eggs and Ham called 'Cocaine and Heroin' with visual effects). All the performers and employees have great attitudes and you can tell that they want you to have the best experience possible. I really enjoy the ke-mo-sah-bee show, it's a competition between teams that the audience gets to vote for the winner at the end of the show and then all the teams do a scene together. Their new furniture adds even more to the comfortable nature of the place and the bar is always a treat. This place was tiny- so tiny that you have to walk through the audience during a live performance to get to the bathroom... It is so awkward interrupting the audience and I'm sure the audience did not like it either. There was a battle between champions and new challengers. They gave us pieces of paper to vote in the very beginning- as an audience member, I'd prefer to receive the paper at the end so I don't have to hold on to it during the whole show. I've been to a ton of improv shows and this did not compete. There were some funny parts here and there but none that made me rofl. However, because it was only $5 per person for an hour of mediocre entertainment, it gets 3 stars. read more

My family and I saw HUMANS Improv at Voodoo and it was the worst comedy show I have ever seen. It was clear that none of the performers had any Improv training or experience at all. It was a full hour of a single skit that made no sense, followed no continuity, and had nothing to do with the initial word that was requested to kick off the show. They didn't even do a second skit of any kind! None of the 7 of us that attended laughed a single time. On top of that, it was an incredibly tiny venue with a small bar out front and a less than soundproof door between the "theater" and the bar area, making it nearly impossible to hear the incredibly subpar comedy that was happening on stage if you sat anywhere within 30 feet of the door, which was most of the seats. This was a huge disappointment after reading the good reviews. read more

My wife and I just left the Human Comedy Show tonight and to stay in synch with the theme of the "comedians" asking the audience for a single word to jump start their performance, if there is one word to describe what we just experienced, it would irrevocably be PAINFUL! But first, let me recount the positives: 1) Small, but quaint and intimate performance room, which I found quite interesting and enjoyable for the event. 2) Free tap water. That's about it. No further positives. I was truly dumbfounded at how atrociously 'not funny' the 2 hour experience was :((( After having exceptional experiences in Portland, OR and Seattle, WA at the improv shows, I had high expectations for another great night out. But to my disillusional dismay, we found only one moment in the unremittingly painful 2 hr evening to modestly snicker at. Seriously! The comedians all seemed like great people, but I can only hope that they all have backup career plans. With only minimal exaggeration, I think I had more fun taking my calculus final than sitting through this lamentable attempt at comedy :( You know you're in for a long night of unpardonable "comedy" when you find yourself struggling to stay awake within the first 15 minutes, with my wife's head peacefully sleeping on my shoulder before the first act ended! Needless to say, we bolted out of there at the first opportunity we had and headed to Applebee's to quell the disappointment with a delicious chocolate brownie and ice cream dessert;-) read more
