Food was not bad and the environment was cute. I like the waiting system where you can see how many tables ahead etc and they let you join wait list by phone. However, the service was slow and there's no AC. We waited for 30 mins after we sat down to get water, and we were sweating the entire meal. Food also took 40-45mins to come after we ordered, while the restaurant wasn't that busy with several empty tables around us. Overall 3/5 and will come back if the service can get faster/better. The chicken and waffles is hands down the best chicken and waffles I've ever had. The chicken is perfectly crispy, the waffle and gravy came out piping hot. The loaded home fries are a MUST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!! Add fried onions and you won't be dissapointed. We also got the lobster Benedict (it was eh). On mondays they have cheap mimosas. Came here in a Sunday morning- it was packed. Our wait time was a little bit longer than guesstimated. The staff were all very friendly making sure we could get to the menu on our phone. We all chose what we wanted while waiting for a table. Our waitress took our order right away and even gave suggestions. Coffee was brewed well and hot when it came to the table. We asked for waters all around and they came by to refill multiple times. Food came out hot and delicious. Ambiance in the restaurant wasn't too bad, the place was packed but you could hear your party well. Tables are close enough you can chat to those next to you if you are interested in what they ordered. If I could rate this place lower, I absolutely would. I understand they don't take reservations, but they specifically told me to call the morning of for a same-day reservation. So I woke up at *7 AM just to make sure I got one. I show up at the scheduled time, and they tell me "just 5 minutes." Fine, no problem. But ALMOST 45 MINUTES LATER, we're finally seated. And for what? A table so tiny that my chest is practically on top of it. There's no space for anything. We order lattes, expecting them to come out before the food--you know, like in every normal restaurant-- but nope, they don't arrive until our food does. At that point, the table is so cluttered with plates that there's no room for them. We had even asked in advance to get the lattes early, and they still didn't bring them. By the time I got mine, it didn't even go with my meal, so I barely drank it. Not that it mattered, because the latte was absolutely terrible anyway. Thankfully, I went to Recess Coffee after to make up for that disaster. And the service? Absolutely awful. The waitress never checked on our table. I have health issues and need water, and every time I tried to get her attention, she zoomed past us like we didn't exist. I shouldn't have to feel like I'm begging for basic service. Then there's the ketchup situation--TWENTY MINUTES just for ketchup? Are you serious? I don't think I'm high maintenance, but expecting decent service and basic attention at a restaurant is not asking for much. This was hands down the worst dining experience I've ever had. To top it all off, we were there to celebrate a birthday. Not that I expect them to do anything special, but they told us they ran out of the cake they normally serve and then, after we had already paid, they offered us a drink half-off. Overrated. Not worth the drive or wait. Drove about 30 minutes to have brunch for sister's birthday. The place was packed. The acoustics were so bad and the place was so loud that we couldn't even speak to the person across the booth from us. Our party was 8 (not small, but not huge) and the food did not come out together so we had to choose to wait and eat cold food or finish our meal before the birthday girl even got hers. Her eggs Beni came out hard. The waitress was very sweet and asked for them to be made again (since it was her birthday) so the cook made them completely raw, like dangerous to eat without food poisoning. The rest of the meals were good, but not worth the hassle. The drinks were amazing. The waitress was wonderful and we felt so bad for her because of all the cook mess ups. It was fabulous and packed with flavor! Eggs were cooked perfectly! The "sushi" roll was ok but heavy on the pancake part. The chicken and waffles and pancakes are my kids' go to and are well loved favorites! One big downside is the wait time. I called ahead and arrived on time but didn't get seated for another hour! I will start as I always do by saying that I don't give out five stars unless I am really blown away. Get out the trumpets as I am giving out five stars. This place just keeps getting better and better. Food choices have changed a little before the better. They just keep adding more and more delicious things. I have the seafood Benny and it was awesome! We also had a giant Mamosa that was almost as tall as my fiancé. The service was exceptional even though the place is packed. If you want to eat here make sure you make a reservation or be ready to wait at least on the weekends. I am really looking forward to the outdoor seating opening back up. I love this spot for breakfast. You can make reservations, or they have counter seats available. My whole family fit at the counter, when they had a 2 hour wait. The servers are friendly and nice. And, we loved all of the food we ordered. I love their drinks, coffee and omelettes. They also have an array of desserts and pastries that you can order as well. Assumed it would not be busy at 9:45am on a Tuesday morning. Wrong. Our party of four arrived and we had a 30 minute wait. Note to self: next time get on the wait list. In any case, after strolling around the neighborhood on a chilly, but sunny day, we got our table with a perfect view of the entire restaurant. Server was great, service was slow. Luckily, we were in no rush. All the food was excellent and filling. I highly recommend the Irish Benny if you like corned beef hash. Also of note was the ham in the Monte Christo Benny. Saw a write up on the Utica Restaurant Review page and the food looked amazing though when I looked it was not local but out in Syracuse. Was out in Syracuse today and Rise N Shine did not disappoint. Would recommend calling ahead as weekend brunch is very busy. We waited well over an hour but the text app which gives you info on your place in line was helpful and allowed us to do other things while waiting. Restaurant is located in a cute trendy area that I never knew was there despite working out in that area several years ago. Also, would recommend checking out menu prior to.... So many great choices was difficult to get through menu and make a decision. Was impressed by all the choices. Restaurant had a DJ during Brunch and offered outdoor courtyard and indoor seating. Though would caution those allergic to bees as there were a large number of bees both inside and outdoors. Now onto the food.... So many great choices. Items were different and delicious and would love to try some of their colorful and playful adult drinks. Loved the food and would highly recommend this trendy place. Rise n Shine diner is so hip and trendy right now - I called to get on the waitlist at 9:30am on a Sunday and didn't get seated till 2pm. And when I arrived, boy oh boy this place was busy. Everything on the menu is photo/insta-worthy, I think it's kinda their thing. They have pretty much everything on their menu ranging from seafood eggs benedict, a pancake sampler, shakshuka, breakfast mac and cheese, chicken and waffles, French toast, etc. For drinks, they have mimosa flights, spiked hot chocolate, marshmallow gingerbread drinks, humongous bloody marys, etc. I had a really hard time picking my food but I settled for the "Big Daddy Pancake Wrap". The big daddy pancake wrap was a HUGE (and I really mean huge) breakfast burrito with eggs, home fries, bacon, and cheese inside - but instead of the outside being a tortilla, it was wrapped in a HUGE pancake. To say the least, this could definitely be split between two people. My friend had a chicken and waffles and was satisfied but not impressed, another friend had the shakshuka and thought it was average and a little small. Overall - I think I "won" the food. The drink I picked was the spiked peppermint hot chocolate. It came it a cute mug drenched in chocolate with lots of marshmallows inside and peppermint on top. The drink was very cute, very sweet, but ended up being kind of small. The whole cup was filled with marshmallows and there wasn't a whole lot of drink inside. read more

I visited Rise N Shine on my first trip to Syracuse, and unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. When we walked in, we were told there would be a 1.5-hour wait for a party of two, which we were prepared for. To pass the time, we went to Recess Coffee around the corner. After receiving a text that our table was ready, we returned to the restaurant--only to wait another 35 minutes before actually getting seated. Once we finally got a table, our server took a while to even acknowledge us, and the wait for our food was also long and frustrating. While the restaurant is aesthetically cute, the service does not make it worth the wait. If you're visiting Syracuse and have plans for the day, I wouldn't recommend dining here unless you're willing to spend a large chunk of time just waiting. read more

Make sure you join the waitlist to minimize your wait time! A friend and I took our kids for Saturday brunch and everything was delicious and came out quick & hot. The mimosa flight was tasty and the kids enjoyed their lemonade flight. The DJ was on point with the music. They offer mini squirt guns filled with a shot that goes with your alcohol beverage. I can understand why Rise N Shine is so popular -- it's basically they instagram destination of diners! The food looks so good, it's almost like you eat it twice -- once with your eyes, and once with your stomach. So why four stars? The eggs Benedict flight that I got took a long time to come out, and when it did, the food was lukewarm, and some of part of it cold. If you've ever had cold eggs, you know how unappealing that can be. Luckily, our server was super nice and went back immediately to the kitchen to have them remake my meal. It was definitely an experience, but I'm still on the fence about whether I want to make a trip back given how long the wait time is for a table (if you don't call the moment they open to place your name down, you get the really unfavorable slots, like 3pm...), and how the food came out cold. read more

Note there is an EXTREMELY long wait but we had a great time! We put ourselves on the wait list for this Saturday at 8:30am and we're seated at 1pm so it worked out as a great lunch! Their online wait-list is awesome and would highly recommend but you need to be willing to have the whole day available. We got plenty of things off the menu! Everything is photo-worthy! Love their variety of drinks and the prices were extremely reasonable. My food came kinda late in comparison to my group so they were done by the time I started but staff was very kind about this. It's nearly impossible to get a table here with the complicated wait list situation, and they never answer the phone. It's very very expensive, and the food and drinks are not the tastiest. There are some unique menu items, but taste is always average. It's a very nice looking place, and the food is always picture perfect, but it's so busy and rushed in there you can't really enjoy a relaxing meal. The food is honestly pretty good overall, I've had a few different dishes and none were a disappointment. People def come here for the drinks, and while extravagant, they don't taste super high in alcohol content, and they are literally the same price as entrees. The drink flights come in EXTREMELY tiny jars, not worth it at all. You're better off getting a boozy milkshake or specialty cocktail in my opinion.
