We loved this place. We were seated at a lovely private corner table. It was romantic and intimate. For our meal, we chose several options and asked to split them all. No problemo. For each course, we were brought new silverware and plates. We started with the pecorino cheese and pears. So good. Cheese was fried with a bread coating. The freshness and coolness of the pears was a nice compliment to the warm, melted cheese and crisp bread coating. Next we had tortellini with pesto, spinach, and walnuts. The tortellini was huge! Four large pieces served steaming hot. The spinach and cheese filling was so good. All of the ingredients went so well together. Our entree was the beef fillet with little tuffs of potatoes. It was so beautifully presented with cinnamon sauce draping the meat. You could cut the beef with a butter knife as it was so tender. Cooked perfectly to our request. Finally, since we loved everything, we had to have dessert. We chose a puff pastry with custard dessert. Perfect ending to an outstanding meal. Cudos to our servers as well as they were attentive and made us feel like we were the only people in the restaurant. One of our top stops in Italy! read more

Cute friendly place. We loved the pasta and salads - not sure the meatballs were my fave but the family was so kind and welcoming that it did not matter. My son loved the tasting menu and thought that the spaghetti in the wild boar pasta was the best that he had ever had. read more

We had the steak which was a treat and went back a second time to try the pasta. They have a lovely inside dining room with air conditioning and an outdoor patio away from all the bustle of Duomo square. My new Italian friends brought me here, as one of them had dined here a few years ago. Though the location was perfectly situated right by the Duomo, it really wasn't a normal touristy spot. The restaurant was filled with locals enjoying an upscale Tuscan meal, and though the patio area was nice, the weather wasn't the best for it at this time. We ordered a couple of recommended appetizers and a bottle of chianti to start. The appetizers we had were an artichoke dish, a cheese filled cured beef dish, and a zucchini blossom dish. All were delicious and flavorful. I had to get handmade fresh pasta as my last meal in Italy, so I went with the pappardelle with scallops and almonds. I wasn't a fan of the almonds, but the sauce and scallops and texture of the perfectly al dente pappardelle was amazing. The wine went with these dishes excellently as well. This was the perfect meal to end my trip- I would do anything to come back to Italy and enjoy all the pasta and wine! read more

This was our favorite spot in Florence. Although it's right next to the Duomo, it's not super touristy or too busy. The food and the service was AMAZING. My grandparents said this was their favorite restaurant in our entire trip to Italy. We ordered the branzino (the celery puree was so good), the risotto, and the simple pasta pomodoro and everything was perfectly cooked, salted, and delicious. If you're in Florence and are near the Duomo you absolutely have to to try it. read more

Stumbled upon this gem for brunch after visiting Santa Maria Church. The restaurant has a covered outdoor patio which we dined under. The food is Tuscan and this was my first dinning experience in Florence. We started off with red wine and fresh warm bread. I then opted for the mixed appetizer plate which included deep fried local cheese, carpaccio and veggie strudel topped with black cabbage sauce. Second course was fresh pasta with locally picked porcini mushrooms. I was craving protein and picked the DOP pork chop - locally raised - this is the best chop I've ever experienced,tender and so juicy! We ended our excellent meal with mille strawberry dessert. The service was superb - the owner's daughter explained each entree and was so sweet. This was at the top of my list of dinning experiences in Italy. read more

5* ambiance and service by Pietro; 3* food. Good restaurant for people who don't like their food too salty or spicy. Ricotta stuffed zucchini flowers were very mild. Less salt used by the chef than Americans are used to. The zucchini flowers are very slightly bitter. First time I tasted this Tuscan dish. Vegetable strudel was yummy; very homemade; simple ingredients; I didn't taste any salt, spices or herbs, just vegetables. The fennel orange walnut salad was ridiculous. Mostly fennel; a few slices of orange and a few pieces of walnut. No greens. No garnish. No dressing. I could make a better salad. Chef's aim seems to be keep it stupid simple. I ate all the orange and walnuts and I ate half of the fennel until I couldn't take it any more. The chef has some good recipes but I wish he or she would take a class on plate decorating and learn how to use some spices and herbs. This is an expensive restaurant, not grandma's dining room. read more

Disappointing. We have been to Florence twice previously, and dined at Il Caminetto each time, where it became our favorite restaurant in the city. While visiting Florence for the third time, we decided to go to Il Caminetto again on Thanksgiving to celebrate our holiday. In hindsight, big mistake. We made reservations and upon entering the restaurant, were surprised to find that 90% of the restaurant was being utilized for a private wine tasting event. Unfortunately there is not a private room, but rather every table in the small restaurant, except for our party of five and a party of two, were essentially right on top of the private event. There was a photographer "flashing" photos like a constant strobe light on our dinner. In addition, there were ongoing speeches and presentations during the entire dinner, forcing us to speak in a whisper so as not to disturb the wine tasting. If we got a bit loud, we received glares from the attendees. It was beyond uncomfortable and awkward. We should have been informed of this event while making the reservation and we would have gone elsewhere to allow for an enjoyable dinner. This event was clearly the focus of the staff, as the service was well below attentive, bordering on dismissive. The food, which was previously excellent, was also below expectations. The steak was cooked well below our requests, and the beef tartare was sinewy and truly inedible. Will not return. Our Thanksgiving dinner was ruined. The experience would have been better if someone had informed us in advance of a massive private event, or at least acknowledged or apologized for us feeling like we were intruding on someone else's private event. read more

Perhaps the finest meal of my life. On January 1st we started with zucchini flowers. Unbelievably light and delicate. Pici chinghiale, ossobucco, and a rucola salad with parmasean. The wine list is outstanding...the atmosphere perfect...the owners treat you like locals and everything is perfect! The two of us ate and drank for 109 euros! We are here last night, our first night in Florence. Wow, such a nice restaurant right in the heart of the city. We are staying in their B&B upstairs, so proximity is awesome. The room by the way is also a find, for another review on where to stay. We started with a really nice glass of Prosecco and their starter of chicken liver pate, very good. I had the creamy eggplant sauced pasta as my first course, absolutely delicious. The crispy fried eggplant skin on top was a nice accompaniment. My main was the branzino fish, perfectly cooked, was excellent. My husband started with the red meat sauce rigatoni, such a robust sauce, perfect pasta. His main was the meatballs, very good, but wasn't a favorite. The meal, atmosphere, service all excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant when in Florence. Doesn't have the touristy feel the other restaurants around here have. The only suggestion is either come hungry or share some of the courses, a lot of food, portions are very generous. With the affordable wine list, this makes for a great night. read more

Il Caminetto is my all time favourite Italian restaurant and in four short trips to Florence I've managed to eat there five times, most recently this May! I originally discovered Il Caminetto from a dear Italian friend who lives in Parma(the food capital of Italy, one day I'll get there) and always eats at Il Caminetto on every visit to Florence. It was at Il Caminetto May 2005 that I discovered the traditional Tuscan dish: Tagliata di manzo con la rucola(beef steak with rocket), this is a man's version of carpaccio really!!! Large slices of amazing flavoursome beef combining with rocket and parmesan cheese. Very generous portions and delicious fresh food with homemade pastas and gnocchi to die for. This isn't a cheap restaurant but is an absolute must to eat in for visitors to Florence. read more

This place service great dishes that are creative and tasty so if you are I. The mood for more than the standard Italian pasta, it is the place to visit. I went tiger with my wife for a quite dinner. It was amazing. The sea bass fish grilled and seasoned perfectly plus the bones removed. The thin sliced veal with roasted potatoes was amazing too as was juicy and full of flavor. The appetizers such the zucchini blossoms filled with ricotta cheese looked delightful and tasted great. The fried cheese and pears was well balanced. Dessert was impressive too as we tried the lemon mousse with pistachio crust was to die for. Although this place is off the Main Street behind the duomo it is worth checking out. Excellent food and indoor or outdoor dining. Our waiter, Ned, was spot on with his recommendations for wine and pasta dishes. We also asked them to combine the antipasto meat and cheese platter into one smaller dish for my wife and I and it was incredible. Deserts were great. The biscuits and the Panama cots were excellent to finish the evening. You should try this restaurant while in Florence!!! read more

Can't believe another Lady reviewed this place. I adored this place. Went back twice in four days. Warm service relatively speedy service for Italy. Expansive qualify wine list. Menu has everything. No pressure to order every course. Had the orecchiette with alici split with my dining companion. An explosion of flavor. Followed it up with the Chianti filet. Normally steak drenched in sauce is a crap cut. Not this place. Sliced like butter. Amazing quality. Went back two nights later. Had the pear & pecorino appetizer. Fantastic. I noticed there were a lot of Italians eating there, which told us a lot. It is in the center of things but not on a main street. Easy to find and walk to though and well worth it.
