Wonderful dinner here at Ristorante Il Bongusto La Maremma. I made online reservations for 4 at 7:30-' on Good Friday; no problem with reservation and got seated right away. Ordered the Bruschetta appetizer, which had three toasts with topped with tomatoes. Wife had the salmon with asparagus; Two nice pieces of salmon with a nice grilled crust, although the asparagus was overcooked and mushy. I had the first level florentine steak 1.4, cooked medium rare; it came out more rare than I expected but was tender and juicy. My son had pasta and daughter had gnocchi with salmon, they both liked their dishes. For dessert, we shared tiramisu and chocolate cake, both were very good. We went here because our original choice was full. LUCKY BREAK FOR US! The food was amazing! I got the spaghetti pomodoro with bacon, which was cooked perfectly. My wife got the Mussels and she has not stopped raving about it. Finally, my son got thr stuffed gnocchi and the spaghetti pomodoro. Good flavorful food! Their thing is boar, it's Tuscany food you know? Vegetables or boar. You have to understand first that boar is a tough meat and you don't make it into a steak, most of the time it's cook as stew. I had the boar stew and it's too tough for me but the pan fried polenta that comes with it is amazing . And the risotto black cabbage is so good. Caramel tiramisu is very good as well. read more

My husband picked this restaurant out from Yelp and we are so glad he did. It's small, colorful, and charming. Who wouldn't love a trio of toy stuffed boars hanging over the sign board or a large toy stuffed boar head on the wall? While the decoration shows this place doesn't take itself too seriously, the food is seriously good. I ordered penne with lemon and meatballs (penne con polpettine al limone). Oh my goodness. It's like nothing I've ever had before and was so delicious. Slightly lemony, penne al dente, just enough tiny meatballs. I ordered it every time we went in here. I asked what was in it but all they would tell me was there was no cream or lemon rind like in Rome. I suspect that even if I had the recipe, I wouldn't be able to make it at home just because of the freshness of the ingredients here. My husband got the spicy spaghetti with guanciale (spaghetti al pomodoro piccante not arrabiata), and that was so flavorful, he ordered that every time we went as well. We did vary our starters, from the crostini alla fiorentina (fried polenta with either chicken liver pate (not like the French, alas), proscuitto (yum), or ragu), the crostone with cheese and truffles (double yum), or the tomato and mozzarella (which is not a caprese, but mozzarella slices stuffed in a sliced tomato). My husband got the wild boar secondi (tasty and came with fried polenta), then the scallopina with cheese and anchovy sauce, and finally a special of chicken and sweet peppers. We enjoyed them all. We sprung for some bottles of wine and then the house white our last day. All delicious. Service was good and we filled ourselves to the brim for lunch so we didn't need to eat dinner. This is the only place we went back to 3 times during our week in Florence and you really can't go wrong. Great prices, good service, spectacular pasta, all a stone's throw from Santa Croce. Spent days in Firenze. Wife found this small restaurant and after circling around the street for a good 20 minutes for parking we finally walked in. No seats, have to wait. 15 minutes later seated, the waiter took our order quickly. I got pici pasta and wild boar with red wine sauce, and Chianti Docg red wine. Pasta is fine, but wild boar meat is a bit of disappointment. It's too salty, no special taste to regular swine meat. Overall it's a good dinner. She said that this place provides a great taste of Florentine cooking, not filled with tourists, casual, low key, but provides a comforting atmosphere. On that trip to Florence, I've dined in a total of three times. The appetizers as well as pasta dishes were all well made. A few of my favorites were the chicken liver crostini, the 3 of a kind bruschetta and the angel hair with clam. The menu also seems to change on a daily basis, but the change isn't too drastic. A couple dishes, including desserts, get replaced with other dishes. The restaurant is family oriented and it also supports local artists by hanging their art work on walls. La Maremma is located a block away from Piazza Santa Crocce. read more

A wonderful cozy gem of a restaurant in the heart of Florence. Great character, friendly service, homey atmosphere. The tables are intimately spaced and a great romantic setting. We started with a bottle of chianti and the crostini with chicken liver pate. I realize this crostini is a pretty standard dish in Florentine cuisine, but I personally was not a fan of the pate. My husband enjoyed it and I think they prepare it very well here, it just wasn't my cup of tea. To share, we ordered the spaghetti with mussels and clams (our waiter explained they had just gotten fresh clams that day) and the wild boar with red wine sauce. Both were phenomenal and the restaurant was nice enough to bring everything out already split on to two plates. The spaghetti was one of my favorite pasta dishes I've had in Italy - very fresh pasta, amazing clam juice based wine sauce, and the seafood was extremely fresh and tasty. It was flavored to perfection. The wild boar dish was also fantastic. The accompanying polenta was great with the red wine sauce and the boar was tender and delicious. There were a few inconsistencies with the boar pieces as some were cooked perfectly medium and tender and a few pieces were a bit overcooked and chewy. But the sauce that it comes in was so delicious that it didn't matter. We got a side of the roasted potatoes that was excellent - perfectly tender potatoes and seasoned to an amazing flavor. I highly recommend La Maremma to anyone visiting Florence. It's a quaint and cozy gem, very high quality food, reasonable prices, and excellent service. A nice alternative to some of the louder and more flashy restaurant options in town. We would happily come here again. And again. And again. read more

I decided to eat here because i hate tourist traps, Especially in Florence. As a native Romana I can handle The Roman tourist traps but in Florence it's a different story. After checking into my hotel I asked the concierge service where I could grab a good Italian florentine meal and he recommended the MAREMMA. Our server nilda was a complete sweet heart. Absolutely amazing service and food. In addition to everything I ordered she recommended the wild boar pasta dish (cinghiale) i modified the dish with the papardelle type pasta. It was not the most appealing dish but good god it was the best pasta dish I have had in a long time. Wow! Also ordered the anchovies salad, caprese and best of all the bistecca alla Fiorentina - literally a dinosaur porterhouse steak, Super tender and flavorful. Sunday night in Firenze means most places are closed, so we asked our hotel concierge for a recommendation and ended up at La Maremma. We should have known to run when there was an automatic sliding door opening to this place. The pappardelle with truffle, mushroom and Gorgonzola was flavorless and the pasta tasted like egg noodles. We also order a balsamic chicken and it looked like Tyson chicken strips coated in store bought heavy balsamic. Not authentic, not good, a disappointing final meal in Firenze. We really liked the food here. It is a bit pricey but good value, service and quality. They do charge you for water as they don't seem to give free tap water. All restaurants in Italy charges service fee/tips for around $2-4EUR so you don't have to tip on top of this for those of you who are from North America. The bills in Europe usually include tips/service fees already. I don't mind paying for this as the service is great at all the restaurants that I have been to and people are so nice, genuine and friendly. Love Italy and would want to come back in the future to dine & sight see. We didn't like the tripe too much but liked the Florentine steak and pasta. This place was amazing! We came here looking for Dante trattoria recommended by tripadvisor. Tired of walking around we walked in here! The portions are small, but the food delicious ! We got the Tartuffe with cheese which was really fresh summer truffles with the perfect bite! My husband got the penne with lemon meatballs (which was ok) and the wild boar prossuito with melons! The melon was the sweetest tasting melons ever and the prossuito was great. I got the homemade pasta with basil and walnuts and it was the best tasting ravioli in our entire trip!
