The host and hostess of this restaurant need to be sent to an etiquette training. These two have the absolute worst attitudes I have ever experienced. The male who sat us, did not even give a greeting or good morning. It was straight to, how many. We then sat for close to 10 minutes, with not one member of wait staff coming to greet us. I finally decided to wave my menu trying to get someone's attention. At least 3 waitresses passed by, several times, not once even acknowledging us. The host walked by, looking the other direction avoiding any eye contact with me. Wow! I ate alone and ordered the chef's combo plate which included a taco a tamale and an enchilada. I also ordered an iced tea. My waitress was very nice. I did not ask for a second iced tea but she brought me one.and charged me for it. My taco was ok. The enchilada was good. The tamale that I ordered was cheese but I got what the waitress said was chicken? Unidentifiable. My bill was $37.00 plus tip. Wow! I don't want to say anything negative about the server, but as far as the food, I would have gone to the gas station across the street and had more flavorful food and way less price. Came here last night for the first time in the mood for some good Mexican food , and expected a little better but unfortunately was disappointed. The wait for my boyfriend and I to be seated was only 10 minutes so we thought perfect! We gave our server our order the first time he approached us, I should've known it wasn't gonna be great just from their salsa from the complimentary salsa and chips. The salsa tasted like something out of a can and not spicy at all. We asked for a spicier one and the one they brought out tasted just the same. My boyfriend ordered a drink and it took 20 minutes until his drank came. We waited a total of 45 minutes for our food to arrive and by then we were full from just eating chips and salsa while waiting. My boyfriend had the chilaquiles and I ordered a chicken quesadilla. We were trying to decide on where to go for dinner tonight as just got checked into the hotel. Our daughter wanted Mexican food so we decided to try Rita's. We thought we made a good choice as it was not busy on Thursday night. We ordered a plain cheese quesadilla for our daughter, my wife ordered the surf and turf and I had the chimichanga with shredded beef. The service was horrible and slow. It took 10 minutes to get my Pacifico and it was not very cold by the time it came to the table. The only dish that was decent was the plain cheese quesadilla. My chimichanga had no flavor and was so bland. The worst dish was the surf and turf. The lobster was over cooked and the Steak was supposed to be medium rare and it was well done. It took 10 minutes for the server to come back around to let her know the steak was cooked wrong. The second time the steak same back it still was not right but couldn't wait any longer as the kid was getting feisty. We should have just got the check and left but my kid wanted ice cream so we ordered fried ice cream for dessert and it was ok nothing special. I love pozole, but though this was hearty, it desperately lacking flavor and spice. The staff was courteous, but also rather slow given it was hardly crowded. Unfortunately, our experience here was beyond disappointing - it was one of those notoriously bad experiences we'll be talking about for years. We were craving Mexican food, and decided to come here and use our room credits rather than heading down the mountain to a taco shop. It wasn't all bad, but quite a lot of it was very bad. I'll come back to the food specifics later, but I want to talk about our experience first. Our server was a sweetheart and super attentive, and the food all came out quickly and accurately. But no one in our party of 4 was happy with their food. When she came back to check up on us, we tried to be polite and 'yeah we are fine' it - but clearly she cared about our experience enough to observe that we didn't enjoy our dishes and offered to fix them. She kept coming back to check on us, asking for our honest opinions, and although we were trying to be polite, we didn't have much positive to say. She did an awesome job of taking care of us from the service side, bringing out replacement food and taking items off the check, and bringing us a complimentary dessert - but there's only so much you can do without good food coming out of the kitchen. The manager took care of us with a service recovery credit and asked us to come back and give them another chance. Had the experience ended here, that's probably exactly what would have happened... chalk it up as a fluke and come back next time. But... then... the chef came out of the kitchen, clearly agitated, and sat down at the head of our table to make us explain what was wrong with his food. Of course this was awkward (how could it not be?) but I tried to take it in the spirit of 'he really cares and wants to improve' until everything we mentioned was immediately refuted and defended/dismissed. It didn't feel like a genuine effort to understand but more like a 'how dare you' confrontation. It was awful. No one should do that to a customer ever. We didn't come there hoping to be let down - we came there hungry and hoping to be fed good food. So what was wrong with the food that led to all this? Entree 1: I got Combo #2 with a fish taco. My plate was beautiful. I bee-lined for the gorgeous fish taco, bit into it enthusiastically... and was punched in the mouth by an overwhelmingly pungent fish flavor. I guess my facial expression spoke volumes because my friends all stared at me in shock (I'm pretty well known as a human garbage disposal who will eat anything). I immediately moved that taco off of my plate to get it out of my life. The rest of my plate, however, was great. Good rice and beans, cheesy enchilada, chile releno, and hot fresh flour tortillas. The chicken taco that I got to replace the fish taco was nice as well with mango salsa and nice grill marks on the chicken. Entree 2: Friend got fish tacos as her entree, and hers were equally as pungent as mine: not edible. She decided to eat only the rice and beans for lunch. We suggested to the chef that maybe a more mild fish would be appropriate - but he defended his choice citing that it was printed on the menu. We also mentioned that he check their stock of the fish because it might actually be off (the flavor really was that strong). Entree 3: Friend got carnitas burrito and only finished 1/3 of it before declaring it the worst burrito he's ever eaten and giving up on it. I tried a piece of the meat and i thought the flavor was fine, but it was indeed soggy and had excessive fatty mush that i had to pick off. He also complained that there was lettuce in the burrito and wrapped so loosely that it started falling apart as soon as he picked it up. My suggestion would be to pan fry the carnitas to crisp it up before using, and leave that lettuce on the side. Entree 4: Friend got Enchilada Suizas and didn't eat them, saying the meat was sour. (I didn't try it so can only report 3rd hand.) Everyone else agreed with her that the flavor was wrong. The chef claimed that was intentional and was his twist on the dish. The appetizers were a better experience: Appetizer 1: Complimentary Chips & Salsas/Queso Dip: Nothing wrong here. These were probably the highlight of the meal. The chips were beautifully colored and seasoned, and i loved the tower of salsas which included a warm queso dip - which was my favorite part. Appetizer 2: Mexican Eggrolls. These were tasty - not OMG best i've ever had but definitely passable. The dipping sauce was a weird choice - it was too sweet and syrupy - but thanks to the queso dip and salsas, this was a non issue - i just used those. ~ ~~ SUMMARY ~ ~ (+) Service was great. (+) Chips/Salsa Tray and Appetizers were great. (-) Fish tacos were so pungent they were inedible. (-) Entrees all had something off putting but maybe some is preference. (+) Service recovery was awesome, but.. (---) the confrontational chef was not. Will I give them another chance? This is a pretty restaurant! Love that it's next to the pool area, I can watch the nice view while eating my meal. Foods are delicious except with their shrimp cocktail, it is a little too sweet which makes it hard to swallow but you also don't wanna waste. The mangoniada cocktail was really really good. They also offer complimentary chips and salsa for you to start while waiting for your order which is really nice and it's delicious too. It's a fun restaurant, they offer this 5lbs burrito eating contest! You have to finish your meal for 20mins to beat the record and you're meal would be free which is really interesting! Haha! The waitress are super friendly. Restaurant is clean, wide and is a good place to just chill. Wife had the carnitas tacos which she found greasy (and "messy"). The rest of our table (who've been here before) universally ordered burritos, so that must be the best thing there, huh? The small dance floor was hopping, so we joined in with the booty shaking. So much fun! The next morning, we went there for brunch, and both dishes were delicious. We came to this hotel on a whim to visit my wife's family, so this was pretty much our best choice for a late night dinner. The choice of salsa and queso was awesome! The chips, however, completely tasted like left over chips... which again, it was late so I can't really blame them cause I'm sure they had already cleaned up their kitchen. The burrito itself was okay... nothing special, but it wasn't horrible. The margarita I got was super tasty and better than I expected. I was surprised to find no bathrooms inside the actual restaurant, but they have them around every corner so it was cool. So I was looking forward to trying this restaurant, as my brothers would eat here during their Harrahs visit. We checked in for 6 people, no other people waiting to be seated. The hostess asked as to wait as she walked to the back. When she returned she lets as know that it would be a 30-40 minute wait as there were reservations coming in right now. (This is a casual dinning place) There were several tables that were empty. I didn't see any reason why we could not be accommodated. We sat outside the restaurant and ate at their to go taco truck. By the way we never saw a large party enter the restaurant. It's amazing that they would turn business away like that. And honestly, I felt my family and I were discriminated against. Came here on Friday at lunch during our stay at the hotel and we absolutely loved it. We decided to sit outside and enjoy the pool view and warm weather. From the time we set foot in the restaurant we were greeted instantly. Love a great place with good customer service! We received delicious complimentary salsa including a to die for queso dip and warm delicious fresh chips. My husband and I both ordered Lobster Tacos with rice and beans. These tacos are absolutely delicious and I for see me craving these in the near future. The black beans were also tasty and so was the rice. We had a wonderful polish waitress I forgot her name but it started with a J. She was phenomenal and super sweet! She checked on us often and promptly but just the right amount of times. We ate here on the 2nd night they were open for business, so there were still a few bumps in the road. (Note: this is a review for the sit-down restaurant, not the taco truck out front.) THE BAD: The staff was a bit disorganized and running around, and didn't know the menu very well yet. They were trying hard, though, which we definitely appreciated. I ordered the skirt steak with ranchero beans and when it came out, I got some beans that were clearly screwed up... they looked like oatmeal on the plate, all grey and mushy. (I think they were the refried beans that someone cooked incorrectly, which is weird, since my friend ordered her meal with the refried beans and they looked and tasted great on her plate.) Our server was quick to apologize and bring me out a plate of the actual ranchero beans (with bacon, yum!) and they were lovely. The guacamole is VERY fresh and good but not a terrific value-- for $7 the portion size was a little on the small side. My skirt steak was good but I noticed it had two cuts across the middle of the steak... clearly the chef was cutting it to peek inside and see if it was done. That's pretty inexcusable; I expect a restaurant chef to be able to cook a piece of meat and know its temperature (rare, medium, whatever) without taking a knife to it. There were TV screens playing sports while we were there, but with no sound. There was NO MUSIC (or other background noise) in the restaurant... so it was sort of a weird atmosphere... you don't realize how much having background music contributes to a nice meal out until it's missing. :-) Near the end of the meal, when we were one of the last diners in the restaurant, it was REALLY quiet since there weren't many people left. Like, uncomfortably quiet. This is the kind of place where you want some energy and excitement, so it was odd when it just keep getting more and more "down." The ceviche we ordered was fishy and a little bit "off," so we sent it back. THE GOOD: The meal started with complimentary salsa and chips and they were amazing... four different salsas (pico de gallo, green tomatillo, a smoky one and a hot one) and they were all delicious. Really, really, really good flavors. The shrimp and braised beef dishes were delicious, and my skirt steak was also quite nice. And again, the servers were trying really hard to be sure we were enjoying our meal and taking care of things, and they were quick to fix the problems without excuses. THE BOTTOM LINE: I think we'd come back, but they definitely need to work on a few things here. Better training with the staff, more familiarization with the menu, and the kitchen needs to step it up in a couple of places. read more

Happy Hour Review Only: My friend and I came here for happy hour after hitting up the slots. With 40% off appetizers and $5 margaritas why not? For our drinks we both chose margaritas. My friend got the Cadillac Margarita which she thought was great and had a good balance of alcohol. I got the Avocado Rita which was decent. I wouldn't recommend it unless you love Avocado since it basically tastes like guacamole. I was disappointed that I couldn't taste any alcohol, even after I sucked the whole thing down I wasn't even buzzed. As a lightweight, I'd say it didn't have enough alcohol The complimentary chips and salsa were good. The chips didn't taste homemade, but were serviceable. The sauces were good too since there were four to pick from - including queso (normally you'd have to pay extra at another Mexican restaurant). The queso was good to the point that we didn't really eat the others (which were fine too). For food we both got appetizers. My ceviche was decent, but was too acidic for my taste. The seafood tasted and avocado were good though. My friends Shrimp cocktail was tasty too, but wasn't amazing by any means. Besides the food the service was good. Our waiter made sure our water was topped off and answered a lot of our questions, and was detailed past the point of average waiters. The salsas all had great taste (4 different ones) there were two reds, one spicy and other decent kick. Then a good verde and then a white queso one. With every Mexican food hole in the wall place offering decent food, I just don't understand why this place is so bad. This time we tried the fajitas. It was supposed to be carne asada and chicken. The beef was just big hunks of microwaved something, (I wouldn't even call it meat) same with the chicken. It grosses me out just thinking about it. Wished that I had taken photos. They did exchange the carne with shrimp, but the shrimp were so overcooked, most likely microwaved too. They were hard and dried out and everything had no taste. The salsa seemed to have been approved upon, but the chips were stale. We've learned our lesson and will not be stupid enough to go there again. When we were there, Sunday, there were hardly any customers at dinner time. No wonder. Our waitress was a sweetheart even though I bugged her for SO many things from asking for ketchup to requesting her to take our photo to asking to sit outside. Ok, not that many things but still! She managed every request without any eye-rolling or resentfulness, and understanding it's tough putting up with the demands of so many customers, I completely appreciate her service. She had blonde hair and wasn't able to get see her name with the picture badge being so small, but she totally rocked! I have been to Rita's in the past and the food was just ok. My husband and I had lunch there today and was pleasantly surprised to see a new menu with great selections. My Cadillac margarita was amazing and the fish tacos were divine! My husband enjoyed the craft beer from Rincon's brewery. Some of the dinner items, we plan to return to sample. Rincon is really upping their game when it comes to good food. Raquel was our server and we thought she did a great job keeping us happy and well fed.Very friendly, also. This is the best casino food I've ever had. Very flavorful and delicious. The flavors aren't super authentic but everything tastes so good. They give you tortilla chips with 2 salsas and a savory cheese dip before your meal, I love it all! My favorite plate that I repeatedly order is the Chicken Enchilada plate. The green sauce is just so flavorful; I almost like it better than regular enchilada sauce! Just FYI the sauce is not spicy at all. My boyfriend had a combo plate with steak, shimp, and enchilada. The shrimp was spiced perfectly and the steak was nice and tender. He got the balck beans, I got the frijoles de olla and I like those better. The drinks are reasonably priced, I had a great michelada for $5! Happy hour is a good time to go get a cheaper margarita. The cucumber margarita is unique and refreshing.
