Bright and modern Mexican restaurant. Stopped in with my family who lives in the area. First things you notice is it's clean, the windows, floors and tables. We were all greeted and seated at a large booth that fit six easily. Our waiter was kind and professional giving us time to get settled. It was late afternoon so it wasn't the busiest. After ordering our food arrived quick enough and all to our liking. Prices are fair for the large portions they serve. Overall all a positive outing with the grandkids who ate all their food. I stopped at Ritos in Mesa Riverview after work today. I work in McCormick Ranch and live in South Scottsdale. I'm posting this review for two reasons - The first being because the manager passed the restaurant phone over to the supposed "owner" after I called within five minutes of getting home to tell them the chips and taco shells tasted like they were fried in old, rancid oil. The manager told me she could offer a credit and when I said I would prefer the refund to my card is when she went to get the "owner". I'm fairly sure I wasn't an asshole to her. I was pretty peeved at this point because we're talking about almost $16 of the $49.11 which was the cost of the food I ordered before tax and tip. I work in the service industry/for tips too so I get it. I'm well aware of the price increase of everything everywhere!!! Before going to Ritos I waited in a line of 10 cars at Sam's Club for gas and gas was $49.65. So there's that. The "owner" also reiterated that a refund would only be given if I brought the food back. I'm sorry, but, I live 15 minutes away from Mesa Riverview. My employer was 30 minutes from the restaurant. I sure as f*ck wasn't going to get my ass back in my car and drive back to Ritos to give them shitty tacos and chips. They told me they would offer a credit for next time for chips and 2 tacos - and I guess that's acceptable but my question is - how are you going to provide that when you don't have my number or an email address for me? And aren't chips typically complimentary at a Mexican food restaurant when you dine in? The manager had the audacity to say that the oil was changed, the chips and tacos are cooked in different vats, the cost of meat has gone up and "everyone is feeling it." That's quite the level of audacity. I'm to the point where I don't give a about your credit and if I want Ritos I'll drive even more out of my way to the Garfield or 7th Street location. I'm more pissed off about the "owner's" attitude than I am about the $2.55 chips I threw in the trash. And the taco shells didn't taste too rancid drowning the inside in salsa. My mother was in her bedroom in the back of the house (I was in the kitchen) and just told me she could hear the owner yelling at me and what a sh*tty way to do business. Keep your credit, I won't be back to your locatiom to dine in OR take food to go. PS - Change your raunchy ass oil. As you said, consumers pay *way too much* to get home with a To Go order to have to throw it away because oil isn't changed frequently enough. read more

New Rito's Location for ME, I came into town for some business but was born and lived in Phoenix area until a few years ago. I am a regular at the 14th Street location whenever I can these days so I was worried. Super cute large restaurant plenty of parking and great location. Food; VERY good, and just as delicious as the original spot. I was pleasantly surprised, the food was fresh and crisp and cooked with the perfects seasonings. Cant wait to go back. We tried the mini tacos and a quesadilla. The mini tacos were good, pretty tasty, and cute. The place has a modern look. Nice. Looks like they have an upstairs with a few tables up there. My friend had a shredded chicken enchilada with rice and beans and it was unfortunately not very good. Especially for the price where you are forced to order Al a carte style - not very flexible.. and then gets expensive A taco and enchilada was $20. The salsa was nice - one was a chunky and the other was more like an enchilada sauce - no spice but still nice. I had 2 tacos and they were just protein, cheese and lettuce/tomato. No sauce, sour cream, to make them more palatable.. Margarita came in a small glass (I still do not understand why Margarita are not served in the correct glass.. fill the glass with ice and there's barely 2-3 mouthfuls of your actual margarita! Had lunch today at Ritos Mexican Food for the first time, after seeing it last week. As we walked into the restaurant we were greeted with smiles and helpful servers. We were seated promptly by Luann, and at first I didn't like where she wanted to sit us, so I asked for a window booth. Which I loved because we got to see the beautiful trees outside. After being seated, Luann quickly brought us water, and chips and salsa. She took our drink order and promptly brought them out. I ordered the chicken enchilada, no sides, and my son got the carne asada burrito, no sides. The food was delicious! The chicken had a lot of seasoning to it and I could taste it in every bite. No blan food here! The amount of the serving was enough. If you're in the neighborhood of Mesa Riverview I recommend having lunch or dinner here. If Luann is your server you won't be disappointed. I had the Carna Asada Chimichanga which includes sour cream and guacamole which was a good size portion entrée. Generous amount of meat and deep fried, nice crisp deep fried outer tortilla. Good food. Be aware that the menu prices are deceiving. At first glance the menu seems affordable considering the good sized portions. However when you look at the fine print the menu prices are CASH prices and when you go to pay with card your bill is significantly more expensive. In addition, we asked for some sour cream and they brought it to our table. They didn't inform us that each side of sour cream was almost $3 and we didn't find that out until we saw the bill. We had eaten here about 6 months ago and it was decent but today, not at all. There were only about 5 tables with people there and I can see why now. Our food was awful, guacamole tasted as though it was from a pre packed container, beans/rice had zero flavor and the enchilada was no better. All 3 of us were disappointed in our plates. We had to order soft drinks $3.65 per glass because the water was so bad. Why restaurants don't filter their water is beyond me. Rito's has been in business for over 45 years and their original location is downtown on N. 14th St. Living in the East Valley, I was thrilled to find out there is a Mesa location. It's been open about a year. I've been eating Rito's Mexican food for over 25 years and it's consistently delicious. If you have never been, you should start with the green chili burrito enchilada style. It is truly perfection. On my most recent visit to the Mesa location I ordered the red and green chili enchilada style with red and green sauce on top. I was not disappointed. They also make fantastic classic margaritas. The Mesa location is big and the dining area is clean and has a warm Mexican vibe. There's also a bar which is large and inviting. Our service on this particular day was pretty good. I do feel our server could have been more attentive to our table and overall it was solid service. A big plus is that they do take reservations! read more

Delicious and very filling! I wound up needing a box for my burrito as it was big enough for two meals! I love a burrito loaded with all of the fixings and this place did not disappoint! As for the atmosphere, I went during the off hours so it was pretty quiet which was very nice. I can imagine though that this place gets pretty bustling during dinner time so definitely plan for that when you go! Also the decor on the balcony area was very fun, I quite enjoyed spacing out and looking around. The server did something I ADORE. I always have headphones when I dine alone and the top tier servers always take this into account when helping me. She definitely did this and used mimes and hand signals to communicate with me, which is much appreciated! I know leaving my headphones on can come across as rude but I'm a very anxious person and am easily overwhelmed by sound, so my noise canceling headphones make going out and about much more doable. This place is pretty, but that's about it. I went twice thinking my first time was just a flop. After the second time I didn't have an excuse for them. To me, the meats are dry and lack flavor. I tried the carne asada and crispy shredded tacos. After trying that I came to the conclusion that I wouldn't be trying the other tacos because the meat will probably be dry and flavorless. I also had their elote which was absolutely terrible. I swear it was canned corn. It's the worst when you go to a restaurant and think dang even I can make it better than this. I met a few girlfriends here last weekend. The place we planned to go to was closed so we did a quick search and found Rito's. It's a cute place, love how it's decorated. The service was fantastic. The manager checked on us several times. The chunky salsa was my favorite and the chips were perfectly salty. I ordered the bean and guacamole tostada with chicken, it was really good! Absolutely worst service ive ever encountered. Walked in and had 2 couples in front of us waiting for a hostess, after waiting for 5 minutes I went to the bar and asked for a hostess and they said she's up front which was not the case. Eventually she came up front, sat one couple then walked past us multiple times without acknowledging us for the next 5 minutes. Came back told the couple in front of us that there's a 20 minute wait, they got upset and said they've waited 20 minutes just to talk to a host, they wish they would have said something earlier. That couple decided to leave and while walking out she gave them a snarky remark. So now we're next, again told 20 minutes and we said yes...we went to the empty bar to order drinks and stood there for 10 minutes trying to order drinks...the bartender never acknowledged us even though we were 5 feet away from him. While at the bar another customer came in and asked for a host, the bartender again said she's up front and the man replied she's not. Eventually she came and sat them immediately on the patio. I asked why they got seated immediately when they came after us and her response was because they're sitting on the patio...I asked why that wasn't an option for us to which she replied would we like to sit outside in a irritated tone. While waiting now to sit outside the bartenders still never asked if they could help us. We eventually spoke to a manager, explained that the couple before us left due to the lack of service from the hostess and that so are we but felt she should know. She was apologetic and understood our frustrations. The entire visit was very wierd and disappointing. I was excited to try their new location however won't be returning. It was missing a spice. My guest didn't like the enchiladas either. Today was talking to my son and he said ,he went there and didn't like the burrito either. Now, my son and I have ate at the 12 th st since it opened in the 70's. Its always good,even now. The first clue was it was 8ish on Saturday night the restaurant was empty, but we decided to give it a try. Learning about the owners and how the restaurant came to be where it is today was one of the highlights of our first experience. Service is friendly and food is delicious... You will walk through a land of savory seduction with a plate of their elote appetizer. Sweet, tender corn with that signature elote coating, cilantro, and onion. They say it's for sharing, but just get your own. If you've never tried elote, this is a sign that you must do so here. A margarita playground beckons from a good portion of the simple menu's real estate, which evoked excitement for all the ways we envisioned consuming tequila paired with their in-house-crafted syrups. Yes, thanks to their fabulous flights, I tried every single flavor. In one visit. Don't judge. My favorites are the pomegranate margarita, prickly pear margarita, and Margarito. Their customizable flights are perfect for the indecisive, or for general libation lovers. The green chile beef burrito, chimichanga style, was my favorite. It fed me for five full days with tender, shredded beef and tangy verde sauce. Even though I portioned it out, it had me overeating like I was never going to see food again. Hubby loved the red and green sauces, homemade chips, and two salsas (which we thought tasted best when combined in a 1:1 ratio). We loved Rito's so much, we went back a second time with a few friends. While the food was still fantastic, service from the bar was painfully slow. We had taken an Uber to the restaurant with the intent of each of us drinking SEVERAL margaritas (we were celebrating). However, even with a mostly empty restaurant, the bar service was SO slow, we were only served one drink after splitting a margarita flight between the four us, which is essentially one ounce per person. At one point, the server informed us the bartender was more interested in arguing with her about flavors and colors of drinks he was making, than he was about mixing and pouring said drinks. Get a new bartender. That's ridiculous. It's a shame, because the restaurant missed out on a decent chunk of revenue with our table, at a massive margin (alcohol), AND we had to take an Uber home while fully sober. Womp womp. If I had to guess, I'd say the inept bartender cost the restaurant at least $500 at just our table that night... multiply that by a few hundred patrons throughout the night, and you have yourself a pretty big issue and a bartender costing you far more than he's making for you. The entire Uber ride home was a comical lamenting about not even feeling a buzz after WANTING to spend money and really "throw some back" that night. Sadly, more money went to the Uber that night than Rito's. The restaurant is cute inside; open, airy, clean and with huge booths that can easily seat six and maybe eight in some cases. We may be back, but we will also set our expectations lower than hoping for a constant supply of margaritas. I hope management sees this and understands the vast opportunity costs with having a subpar bartender. read more
