It was an enormous blessing finding Dr. Joel. Establishing care as a new patient was easy, organized and the staff were supportive, accommodating and patient. I instantly felt comfortable with Dr. Joel and I would contribute that to his warm friendly demeanor and the positive energy that his spirit projects. After my first visit I had a clear treatment plan in place of how Dr. Joel could support my fertility journey and he provided recommendations of what I needed to do on my end. The medical industry can be really discouraging towards women who are trying to conceive after 35. Dr. Joel and I discussed the challenges but, but he never made me feel like it was impossible. I looked forward to each visit because I had a provider who helped me be hopeful and optimistic. Each session he not only focused on points to help with my fertility but, he also checked in to see what other areas that he could support such as appetite, sleep, aches/pains, energy and mood. Call me naive, but I had no idea acupuncture treats a wide-range of conditions. The amount of brochures the office had on display really peaked my interest. The reason for my visit at Ritual acupuncture was for my dear son, who suffers from some type of degenerative back issue, along with anxiety and depression. To help, his medical doctor had referred him here. Because he has Partnership of California, a non-profit community based health care organization that contracts with the State to administer Medi-Cal benefits through local care providers to ensure Medi-Cal recipients have access to high-quality comprehensive cost-effective health care), he was fortunate that Ritual accepted this insurance, although we did have to travel from West Sacramento to Vallejo because it was the only clinic in our Sacramento region to accept these types of patients. After his consultation, and the paperwork was submitted Partnership, he was approved for 12 visits. The office is small, but if you have to wait in the waiting area for any period of time, it is quite comfortable and relaxing as they have soft music playing, along with a soothing indoor water fountain. Various teas are available for your pleasure and cold water too. The staff were all very nice and always had a smile on their face. Novella was my son's acupuncturist and was very understanding and supportive of him. They open at noon, which made it convenient for us to make the drive without encountering too much traffic that can be encountered from Sacramento to Vallejo on a weekday. I got a referral from my pain doctor to help treat my spina bifida occulta. My insurance covered my visits, and I've just had my last session, of course I have to write a review now. I looove this place. The Eastern approach to medicine is really interesting, even if I don't completely understand it. (Not to say that I really understand Western medicine, either.) Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. When I discuss my problems with the staff, they're really attentive and caring. Dr. Joel is especially affable, and I found myself talking about all kinds of things--Filipino food, dancing, how the body works--all the while, he's poking needles into me. Talking and breathing deeply helps a lot to reduce the initial anxiety of turning into a human pin cushion. What to expect: Patients are asked to take off their shoes and socks, and maybe roll up their pants. Since I went during winter, I brought bike shorts and changed into those so I could maintain modesty while they could still reach the areas that needed work. They have heaters and heat lamps to keep their patients cozy during the treatment. Low, soothing music comes in on the speakers. Sometimes it's acoustic. Sometimes it sounds like Buddhist chanting. The needles themselves are pretty thin, and most of the time, there's a split second tap of pain when they pierce the skin. In the tenser areas, they're more painful going in. At that point, I pretty much just had to breathe into it and relax. The ears are especially sensitive, and they also tend to bleed the most. Sometimes, they attached electrodes to the needles in my most troublesome areas. The electrodes massaged the muscles with a tap-tap-tap-buzzzzz pattern. After all the needles are in place, I focus on my breathing--five seconds in, five seconds out--and the pain melted away. I even dozed off a few times. I recommend staying as still as possible while the needles are doing their thing. I found if I flexed my hands and the needles were still inserted, they felt sore. You may experience some bruising upon removal of the needles. For a few hours afterward, I tended to be sore. After my first treatment, my legs felt like I'd been hiking for hours. I would recommend scheduling an appointment later in the day, when you aren't expected to go back to work and don't expect yourself to engage in a full workout. Maybe follow up you treatment with a nice salt bath at home. Scheduling and rescheduling appointments might be difficult, because they're soooo busy, and for good reason. About a day or two before your next visit, they'll send you reminder texts. ANYWAY, THIS PLACE IS GREAT. Book an appointment. You won't regret it. read more

Where do I begin... I love this clinic. I suffer from tendinitis. I found them on yelp after all the great reviews I decided to give them a call. At my first visit I went in with horrible pain with tears in my eyes. My first session was so fantastic that I felt so much better right after. I had gone to acupuncture before and I felt OK but not as good as I do here. I was lucky enough to be able to get acupuncture weekly for the first few months. My pain decreased drastically. I went from taking medication daily to none at all. Dr. Joel treats the body not just the problem area. I realize that my problem wasn't just tendinitis I had other issues going on and Dr. Joel address them. After so many visits Dr. Joel knows my problems and knows exactly how to treat them. My doctor told me that I could not work any longer. I didn't trust my doctor and I spoke to Dr. Joel about it and he gave me hope, he gave me the strength, and the courage I needed and I continue to work to this day. I initially started coming to see Dr. Joel for acupuncture regarding my menstrual cycle and fertility concerns.
