We found the world's best burgers and onion rings at River City Café at Barefoot landing. The wife and I both got the fantastic Jammin' Jalapeno Bacon Burger. The burger was of good size and topped with jalapeños, hickory smoked bacon, smoked gouda, lettuce, tomato, and the most amazing pepper jelly. I mean who would think to put pepper jelly on a burger, but this not only works, it was also the best burger either of us have had. I ordered my burger with Onion rings, which were Massive in size and clearly fresh (not frozen). I hate to overuse the phrase best ever, but hands down the best onion rings either of us have ever had as well. The wife ordered her burger with Fries. I am not sure these are the best ever, but clearly, they are up there. Fresh, crispy on the outside and super tender on the inside. The Onion Rings were so good we ordered an extra side of them which came with tangy remoulade type sauce. So freaking good What an outstanding and inexpensive meal. We received a 30 min wait so we went to the bar to order a drink and fried zucchini while we waited, which was delicious. Our server, Danton Y., was polite and attentive throughout the visit. She spoke in a clear and confident manner, even though her voice was a bit loud at times. Overall, her customer service was professional and respectful, and she made sure we were taken care of during our meal. For our order, I had the fish and chips with onion rings and a Dr. Pepper, while my wife ordered the fried shrimp with onion rings. The main entrées were acceptable, but the onion rings were a major disappointment. They had far too much batter, making them overly thick and heavy. In addition, some of the onion rings did not even have a complete hole in the center, giving them more of a bowl-like shape rather than a traditional ring. Both my wife and I found them to be very tough and not enjoyable to eat. The restaurant itself was clean and had a nice atmosphere overall, but the food quality did not fully meet expectations. I would rate the cleanliness at a 3 out of 5, and the restroom at a 4 out of 5, as it was better maintained than the dining area. While the experience had some positives, such as the service and general environment, the quality of the onion rings significantly affected the overall impression. On a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being excellent, I would rate this experience a 2.5. The atmosphere is unique with graffiti and license plates for decor. The lights use colored bulbs and outdoor seating is available. We sat for about 10 minutes before our waitress ever came to the table, but this is suspect of the hostess not letting her know a new table had been sat. Other than the initial wait the service was to par. If you're looking for something other than burgers or chicken sandwiches, this is not a place for you as the menu becomes very limited without those options. The food wasn't cold, but also not as warm as we would have hoped. The Carolina Chili burger lacked flavor, while the Jerkin' Chicken had flavor it was a bit rubbery. The French fries are "hand-cut", but served way too soggy. This is not at the top of my recommendation list, but if you're hungry enough and want something a little different later in the evening it is an option. read more

If was a very weird interaction. Pub bar style atmosphere like a lower end Texas Roadhouse. Some things started off really good like the chicken wing apps and the French fries. Other things started good and ended bad like the buffalo chicken sandwich. By mid way through it started tasting like tap water and actually made my stomach hurt. The other good thing was it was very cost effective although is it worth if for the stomach issues?! But I was the only one so maybe wasn't just me. I'm gonna preface this review by saying that I would go back here and give River City Cafe another chance. For any management that may read this, I'm reviewing my first impression here and being honest about my experience. With that disclaimer out of the way I was underwhelmed. I came in to get a takeout order to take back to my room. I was offered a seat at the bar and while my server was nice enough she seemed annoyed to be working and never offered her name. I ordered the fork and knife burger because I like sautéed mushrooms and onions. It was supposed to come served on Texas toast and smothered with brown gravy. Had I ordered this and sat down to eat, I would have sent it back and ordered something else. The piece of Texas Toast was thin like it could have just been wonder bread, and when I cut into it, I found it to be a bit soggy from the burger. When I opened my container, I found no gravy was offered or topped on the burger. This made for a dry burger, however it was better after dumping my slaw on top of it (slaw was actually good). Finally the patty itself may have exposed how small it actually was compared to the burgers I saw being delivered to other tables. It was the size of a kids McDonald's patty and I'm not exaggerating. At the End of the Day, I feel like they did not make the best first impression but how many guys can say that about the first time they met their wives. We had a great experience here with our kids. The food was excellent (fries were very salty but the kids loved them). Free peanuts as much as you want and can throw the shells on the floor! The food wasn't anything special. Up charge to get fries (several dollars) with a burger at a burger joint seems odd. Not overly clean, the bathrooms were filthy my husband went into the men's restaurant before we left and said it smelled awful and the toilets were clogged up with poop and there were flies in there. After a long morning at the airport, we swung by River City Cafe for a quick lunch. During our entire meal our server made sure we had absolutely everything we needed. He checked in multiple times to make sure everything tasted good, and to make sure all of our drinks were refilled as often as we needed. I told them to Keep the jalapeños and Mayo cause I'm not that tough and I thought Mayo might make this sandwich unhealthy. A gosh darn flavor symphony erupted in my mouth from the first bite. The bacon was on the fatty side and just hung out there like an uninvited cousin at the house party who brought some white lighting through and could definitely stay. The flavor was soon overpowered by the chili mixed with mushrooms and the mustard. Boom yow sure is packing a punch right there. I upgraded to the "world famous" onion rings and was crunchily surprised by the bite back from these little morsels of instantaneous delight. The frozen drinks were on point. Blended smoother and creamier than ought yo be happening on a Monday night, in off season, while walking in half hour til close. Yeah I'm working on me. We were seated almost immediately and our waitress was very pleasant and made sure we had refills. The restaurant looked clean and well maintained. They use a paper stick-on style tablecloth, which I thought was odd at first, but actually liked. I got the continental burger. I love a fried egg on a burger. My burger was cooked nicely. My only small complaint was they over cooked the egg slightly and it had a little too much salt. I like my yolk to be slightly runny. I didn't tell them that ahead of time though so can't truly fault them for it. My brother got the chicken fingers. He said they were quite good. Both orders came with fries and coleslaw. The fries were hot and crispy. The coleslaw was good. I like mine a little sweeter, but it wasn't bad at all. Overall, it was a good & quick place to eat. There is an outdoor seating area , half with a roof covering and the other section completely outdoors by the marina for a beautiful view. Food: This is the best burger restaurant I have so far experienced. They are huge, fun, and allow customizing if needed for personal preference such as toppings and meat. They offer alcoholic beverages, smoothies, and wine! The prices were very FAIR for the food, there were 0 complaints from my end and we appreciated the feeling that a lot of love and care was inputted into the menu. Service: At this time, it is normal these days to learn of low staffing but they did not demonstrate this type of behavior. Our waiter was a very kind man who was patient and receptive to our questions. Even the person who brought out our food was so kind; everyone worked together and I believe it led to great sense of team and service. This place is appropriate for families, dates, and casual dining. Again, the inside gives off dark bar vibes with the lighting and I think it is a great concept. We came here with a group of friends and had a great time! The servers were super attentive and very helpful with recommendations and suggestions! My husband and I are both vegetarians and we were so excited about our burgers because it wasn't another impossible patty or some other frozen patty blob. These tasted fresh and were amazing.
