Quite a bad visit, with one caveat. Upon entering we went to the counter to order, looking forward to the good food we've had here a few times. First impression, the young woman at the counter was not welcoming or even friendly, yet physically pushed the tip jar towards my husband as he was preparing to run his card. Never a good look. Next, our waffle and sandwich arrive. Both have been great on other visits, this time drastically different. The egg sandwich was almost flavorless, but our waffle was an epic fail. It seemed quite pale when he set it down, but starving I cut off a large bite immediately, only to find out what raw sourdough tastes like...and it's not pleasant. My husband took it back up to the counter, receiving no regrets & no letting us know they'd get another started. We finished our coffees and sandwich and waited; after 15 minutes he went back to peek in the kitchen at which point an employee walked to the iron and out it came. Only this time it wasn't just extra crunchy, it was so overcooked there was no longer a center. Both still hungry, my husband washed down about 1/3 of the 2nd waffle and we headed out...again, still hungry. Luckily the one positive, I'd ordered a cinnamon roll to-go with our order to enjoy later and it was very good. We hadn't been here since they'd done a remodel and the place was clean and looked good, but service needed way more than a little work on our visit.

Order at the counter and the kind folks here will bring your food to you at a table in there very comfortable dining room. There are some high tops, picnic tables, a sofa with a table and kids books and some regular small tables and chairs to choose from. This place has a very casual and comfortable feel to it. I see two large glass garage doors that they must slide open during the warmer months.. One in our party ordered a bowl of clam chowder and it was an incredibly thick almost stew like concoction that was very good and came with a large portion of bread. The kid with us got the peanut butter and banana with honey sandwich that came with apple slices, all of which he adored, and another in our party shared a veggie sandwich with me that was delightful. The veggie sandwich was very generous with the avocado and comes with cheese, onion, tomato, cucumber, and pickle on the side with some really nice alfalfa sprouts that I particularly appreciated. We also shared a magnificent soft pretzel that was steaming hot and had outstanding cheese sauce served with it. Really great place that I'd like to come back to for breakfast sometime because the breakfast items, especially the quiche, Look outstanding.

Great food, cozy atmosphere and wonderful service. We really enjoyed our visit to River Daze Cafe. The food was delicious, everything was clean and there was a great variety to choose from. The cinnamon bun was a highlight and I definitely recommend asking to have it warmed up. The only downside was that we waited over 30 minutes for our food even though we were among the first to order. Still, the staff did a great job. They were kind, attentive and clearly working hard to take care of everyone. We would happily come back again.

Kitchen full of staff moving like snails. Pulled off the highway to the first breakfast spot we could see, thinking it would be a quick grab-n-go. Wrong. The in-store dining was 1/4 full and it was a 30 minute wait to get one little sandwich lol. Not one "sorry for the wait". Sandwich is good but the kitchen could pickup the pace or provide an adequate timeframe on ticket time.

Super good place in hood river. You have breakfast sandwiches, lunch sandwiches and other assorted items. The English muffins are amazingly good. Service is not exceptional but it works just fine. We had an egg sandwich and it was very good. It's right off of the interstate if you are driving through and sits in a street that is walkable.

This was an open place. You can watch them cook, the garage glass door was open to see everything outside. Clean. Smaller menu but you don't need much, it was quick & easy, yummy food here. The person who took our order was outgoing and super friendly and helpful. Let's put it this way, this place has a morning coffee group consisting of 2 elderly couples just hanging out with their drinks. I would totally go here again and eat lunch and listen to the jammin music being played.

Great place to get sandwiches, including an extensive breakfast sandwiche menu which is always a treat for me. Lots of people stop here to get a sandwich to go but I prefer to eat there. The space is surprisingly large with huge windows allowing you to take in the Hood River scene. Sandwiches are fresh, licql ingredients and tasty combos. It's a popular place as the long lines underscore. I'm here in off hours so never have to wait long. You order at the counter and they bring your meal to you. Standouts for me are the T-Rex breakfast sandwich. The standard egg, cheese and choice of protein and I go with the sausage. I'm not a fan of egg whites - meaning can't stand the taste of or texture of egg whites - so I ask for the egg scrambled. Served on a homemade English Muffin, which is way better than store bough, this sandwich is definitely a weekend indulgence for me. Sooo good! My second fave is the tuna fish sandwich. They use local line caught tuna combined with mayo & red onion, served on choice of bread, I order whole wheat and they top with tomato and sprouts for a simple, delicious and satisfying lunch. It actually comes with avocado too, which I leave off; again a texture thing for me. Employees are friendly. There are lots of vegetarian options and even gluten free bread. They also serve coffee and baked goods but I haven't tried any of them yet. There are always people hanging here, a combo of locals and those visiting Hood River.

Turkey brie sandwich was delicious. The cranberry sauce on this sandwich was finger-licking good. They sell kombucha and coffee too.

Favorite brunch spot in Hood River! Whenever I travel to Hood River I make a point of stopping here and I've been doing it for 10 plus years! A superb spot where you can take a window seat and no matter what day of the week it is you will always find a cozy spot to take in the sights. Simple menu of sandwiches, bagels, and egg muffins but perfect for breakfast or brunch! Menu consists of organic ingredients with kombucha and other drinks and the prices are fair and reasonable. It's located on a busy corner in the heart of Hood River which makes for interesting sights.

Just mediocre atmosphere and no service. Counter order, self serve water, and you bus your own tables. Sandwich prices are high and don't reflect this no frills cafeteria style food. read more

This place can easily increase their rating by renting a location that provides parking space. There are more tables inside than paid parking spots available. The coffee is great and the food options look delicious, but I don't want to think about the amount of time I have left on my parking meter while at a cafe. If we take out this parking factor, the cafe is fantastic. read more

Interior was a bit dirty. Many flies by open windows. Sandwiches were average tasting and fairly small fir the prices. Downtown parking is paid everywhere - pretty much must use an online app to pay. read more

I went here for breakfast and added an egg to the pastrami sandwich. Did the same to the turkey melt for my BAE. Super fire food, friendly workers, and a nice atmosphere. If I wasn't just here on vacation I'd be coming back soon. Thanks! read more

Lovely coffee cafe for our vacation breakfast. Nancy's yogurt was delish with fresh fruit and homemade granola. Sorry no pic of Americano but it was too good so I slurped it down before food arrived. Hubby had a nice fresh bagel with an even spread of cream cheese but since my yogurt bowl was so nummy, he also ordered one(should've gave him a bite I guess)! We were tickled with service also. Thank you for a nice clean store + restroom!! We will return on our way back home. read more

The fact that River Daze Cafe is popular says a lot about food options in Hood River. We found it to be mediocre and overpriced. The spinach salad description included naming the type of cheese in it. There was, maybe, a teaspoon total of cheese included. Same with other ingredients-skimpy. All lost in a small pile of spinach. Turkey sandwich was not memorable either. Staff seemed overworked. read more

I have to say that River Daze's special today, the Tuna Melt was the BEST Tuna sandwich I have had in DECADES. Period DOT. The French bread was perfectly baked and warmed; the tuna was chunky and delightful and cheese, onions and pickles and lettuce created a medley of goodness that brought me to the "Ratatouille moment" of the Tuna melt i used to get at the Hurlburt Field Officers Club back in the late 80's. Thanks always for the best sandwiches in Hood River - IMHO. Yummy Goodo! read more

Great breakfast spot! They've got a wonderful assortment of breakfast options (not too extensive) but all delicious. Their waffles were absolutely amazing (get the bacon sourdough waffles if you like waffles) and their sourdough English muffins were so fluffy and tasty! Coffee was ok, nothing crazy good but not too bad either. One of the best parts about it is that they have huge windows that are opened with nice weather so you get the feeling of sitting outside while being protected from any potential bad weather. Definitely worth a stop! read more

Their hot sandwiches are great and they have a decent selection of local beers, ciders and fruit sodas. I had the turkey melt on their homemade whole wheat bread and it was great. The dining is indoors, but they have windowed walls that open up for an outdoor dining feel. read more

We went here on a Sunday for lunch and were really disappointed. The food was average and the service and cleanliness of the restaurant was poor. Flys, dirty Plates, totally full bus tubs, no engagement from the staff, and burned out light bulbs, torn up seating. How is this place rated 4+ stars. We were Hungry and hoped for a quick bite before heading down the road. There was also no soup on the menu, oh well. We have a ton of friends coming into town for an event and hoped to find a fun restaurant recommendation to pass on. Perhaps the place was understaffed or the staff on hand (about 5) were tired From hop fest the night before. Good luck and I hope this spot gets better because their location is very good. read more

Delicious and I felt healthy walking out of here. I had a breakfast sandwich with sprouts, egg, cheese, and an Italian salami type meat (drawing a blank on which meat) and it was so good. The menu had at least 4 other things I wanted to try. I think I can plan at least 4 more roadtrips up this way just to eat... I think I'll have to try the cheesecakes, too. read more

The veggie breakfast sandwich is a must and a staple for every time our family visits Hood River. Oh my golly, their English muffin is so soft and perfect with the combination of the fresh ingredients, it's indeed the best! We ordered a side of bacon as well and yes, their bacon is damn good. So we just went here for breakfast at 9:30 am on a Tuesday. We were the only guests in addition to one guy who was working on his laptop. We placed our order for 2 iced coffees and 2 egg sandwiches and found our seat. Coffees were delivered right away: delicious and chocolaty. The food in the other hand never arrived. We waited about 30 minutes and had the wrong order delivered to us, to which the server was like "oops. Our ticketing machine is off". She then delivered the same sandwiches to another couple and it was also not their sandwiches. By now the place had about 5 other tables and they started getting their food after us, despite us having been then for 15-20 mins longer. There were like 6 employees, most of which were sitting around eating or chitchatting. I could not get over the amount of people who weren't working while we just waited for our food. It was literally an egg on an English muffin. Wtf? Why are the reviews for this place so good? I will never know. We got our money back and went down the road to Remedy Cafe where we got served in about 5 minutes. read more

Came here for brunch on the way out of town after hanging in Hood River for the weekend. Read a lot about the breakfast sandwiches, but when I got to the front of the line (it looked long, but it went fast) I called an audible and went for the pastrami sandwich. Im pretty sure this is best pastrami sandwich I've ever had. They had me at 'spicy mayo.' Great location, friendly staff, and a cool open dining area with big windows. It was fun to people watch the passersby while I stuffed my face with this sandwich of the gods. read more

Lots of freshly baked goods if you're into that (!) And that includes home baked pretzels and key lime coconut cream pie. Bloody Mary with sake which they call a Bloody Geisha and $5 Mimosas every day. Egg sandwiches on well toasted english muffins. Waffles. Local beers both on draft and in bottle from breweries like Pfreim. Hot pastrami with havarti, horseradish cream and caramelized onions the day I was there. Friendly and accommodating staff. Most people give this cafe a high rating for their food. I think the food is good and deserves four stars. The service is also good. The fact that this establishment is called a cafe is where the rating dips in my opinion. The espresso beverages (cappuccino/latte) are not done well. The coffee beans are likely part of the problem. The coffee tastes bitter and the foam is also not executed the way one would expect from a small, private cafe. If you want breakfast sandwiches this place delivers... You may want to get your coffee elsewhere. read more

Enjoyed my breakfast. Ordered the hot and bothered breakfast sandwich, which was $6.50. Seemed a little spends, but it was a high quality and tasty breakfast sandwich. Also ordered coffee for $2.50. If you order the coffee to drink inside, you get free refills. Edit: forgot to add that the coffee is from local roaster 10 Speed Coffee. read more

Amazing breakfast OMG! Just had the Hot and Bothered Egg Sandwich and the gf had their avo on toast and the flavors on both were incredible! Fresh, tasty, perfectly cooked, perfect texture, not too spicy...just enough. INCREDIBLE! Short visit here in Hood River but I don't want to try anywhere else now. Great coffee drinks too. read more

This was probably the best tuna sandwich I've ever had. The bread was soft and fresh, the tuna had a good flavor with their mixins and seasoning. I don't typically order tuna fish sandwiches in restaurants, but I'm really glad I did. read more

I called in my sandwich order and it was ready as I was walking in the door. While looking at the menu I was debating whether I wanted the t-rex+sprouts or the hot and bothered. I went with the rex b/c I was afraid it might be too spicey. The muffin itself is so fluffy and fresh, and the sandwich in whole was to die for. I was asking the gal about the hot and bothered and she was so friendly! She let me taste the meat (it was wonderful and not too spicey) and gave me the option of swapping to bacon or something else if it was too spicey. I'll be back tomorrow for the hot and bothered. My review is coming in a little late, but this place has been on my mind since it was so incredibly good! I ordered the Pastrami sandwich and it was fabulous! The flavor was so good and I've been dreaming of having it again! My husband had the Turkey and Brie. He said it was really good and he'd would have it again! We will be back in Hood River in August and this is one place we are defiantly going to stop at again! read more

this cafe uses the local 10 Speed coffee, and it is yummy... In the refrigerated pastry case, you'll find my favorite... coconut Key lime pie. YUM! Even though I'm all grown up now, I still feel guilty about "desert first"... so I love to other the Tuna melt, or a bowl of soup, did I mention they make GREAT soups? I'm convinced you can't go wrong here... no matter what you order... it's gonna taste good. read more

Fresh and creative menu. Surprisingly they make much of their ingredients in-house, including fresh baked breads and muffins! Best English muffins I've had! Great breakfast sandwiches, and my go-to place for lunch sandwiches as well. Sunny windows to sit and sip on a coffee or beer. Love this place! read more

I rarely write reviews, but the food is overpriced, and the customer service here is awful. It took an hour to get five sandwiches and a side salad. We visited at 2:30pm on a Monday (not busy at all). There were several people behind the counter who were all moving very slowly. I heard at least three other customers complain about receiving the wrong order, missing items, or waiting for their food. When our food did arrive, it was super bland and they forgot to give us utensils. Please save your time + money, there are far better options within walking distance. read more

When you get in you order at the front which is nice but they don't seat you and there was no table with four seats, which made for an uncomfortable interaction with shuffling tables once our food finally came out to us. I myself got the bacon waffle which was outstanding, possibly the best waffle I have ever eaten. My mom got the pastrami sandwich, she gave it a 3/5 stars, she said it was good but was missing something, maybe a sauce, maybe a pickle. My dad got the bagel with lox, 4/5 stars. Grandma got the waffle with fruit, very underwhelming compared to the bacon waffle. The ice tea was amazing and the service was fine, beautiful location with large windows, nice choice of sauces on the table. Would recommend. read more

Kickstand has a bar...well, it looks like a bar. But what I found out is that it's just for looks because it doesn't act like a bar. I thought ordering two cocktails and paying for my drinks would be easy, like it is at every bar in town. But the bartender, I mean employee standing behind a bar, asked if I was with the large group. I stated, "yes, I was." Then she proceeded to tell me that the drinks would be on someone's tab. But I showed up late...I don't know what's happening. I don't know who's paying for the "tab". I just wanted to buy two drinks and walk away. But that wasn't allowed at Kickstand. Then another employee walks up and attempts to take my drink order. Super confused, I tell her the employee standing behind the bar just took my drink order. And then we proceeded down the tab conversation again. The second employee said because "we" were a party of 8 or more, I couldn't pay for my own drinks and I they would have to put it on the party's tab. But again, I don't know who owns the tab. If it was the woman having the birthday, I didn't want to add to her bill...on her birthday. Then they suggested I "could just Venmo" the party girl. No! I want to just order two drinks and have Kickstand take my money. Why wouldn't they just take my money?! The place was dead tonight, other than the 5 or so small daycarel families, sitting at their own tables, that made up the "party". I canceled my drink order and walked away out of protest and principal. When asked if I was with the big party, I should have said no I guess. Lesson leaned for next time, if there is a next time. Some time passed and that changed and they indeed did get such a set up. Located in Hood River, The Walled Garden is just such a place that has the brewery's in taproom/tasting room presentation. This space is set up really cool as there are gifts that you can purchase here as well as get food and their beer fresh off of the tap. We had quite a few places to visit while in town and didn't stop for a full fledged meal but it certainly looked tempting. While we were here I tried to get a beer that I haven't had before. I got The Bell which is a dark mild type of beer. It was good and a nice kick off to all of the other brewery stops here in town we had planned. This beer has a malty flavor which is pleasant and the ABV is manageably low. The beer is light bodied and nice and smooth. Other beers of the past that I highly recommend from Kings & Daughters are the Queens & Sons. I don't often drop a really high rating on Untapped for IPA' s typically but this one was excellent. Everything in the flavor profile was great. The bitterness of the hops and how all of that flowed together with the rest of the beer was just fantastic. Moving back to darker beer again another beer from Kings & Daughters that I really like is the Wintering Stout. This stout is just amazing and was another beer that I rated highly again on the Untapped app. The flavors you will find in this lovely beer are roastiness, toastiness, an earthiness and a hint of tobacco (in the best way possible) . Kings & Daughters cranks out amazing beers. I want to say that I have had a few more but I don't have them down in my records but I do recall having the consistent feeling of being quite pleased with this brewery each and every time. They make beers that aren't too intimidating to the average beer drinker but at the same time manage to be creative so more specialized beer drinkers( or beer drinkers who like more experimental beers) won't get bored with their offerings.

BE AWARE of the PASTRIES!!!!!!!! I dont know how to write this review because I was so appalled!!! This was our first time visiting Hood River. When we go on vacations we focus our time trying new restaurants. This is our second breakfast stop of the day. I did my research to try the top breakfast places. This was first on my 'need to try' list. We walk in and was greeted by a somewhat enthusiastic guy. We decided to tried the clam chowder since the book store lady next door recommended it. We also ordered 'the hot and bothered' egg sandwich... after paying my fiancé and I are standing at the counter looking at their pastries, OMG there was SO many bugs crawling on them!!!!!!!! We decided to sit down and we were swarmed by gnats, they were everywhere!!! So I started looking around.. there was old food, crumbs, dust, just covered everywhere!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would understand if they were busy but there were 3 tables... NO, they didn't just have a breakfast rush because the employees were in the back the whole time we were there. Not once did I see anyone come out to wipe tables or straighten up anything. I own my own business and you NEED to keep your place clean, especially a restaurant! I got the Trex breakfast sandwich with bacon and my husband got the lox everything bagel. Absolutely delicious, he hasn't stopped taking about how amazing the lox and creamy cheese with the peppery arugula and crisp red onion. I highly recommend this spot to everyone. The atmosphere is chill and welcoming. They have a large window they open for a great air flow. 10/10 I have to also say that the welcoming lady at the register to the kind gentleman that brought the food to us made the experience even better. read more

Lindsay m! I'm guessing that was an earwig not a cockroach and I'm so sorry! I grow a lot of the greens that river daze uses and though we clean our produce thoroughly sometimes we miss something. A huge thanks to river daze for using so much locally grown organic produce! As for the wait, 25 minutes for a sandwich that good sounds fine to me. Those guys make everything(even the condiments) from scratch so it can take a little longer than, say, McDonald's. keep it up river daze! Best sandwich in town read more

The food was good, although small portions, my breakfast egg sandwich was tiny. It took FOREVER to get our food. Granted they had a good sized crowd for a late Sunday brunch, but it took almost an hour for us to get our breakfast. When you have little kids with you that is just too long!! With that aside, the food was good and the staff was super nice! It's on a great street in beautiful Hood River. There is a great book store a couple of stores down. I paid with a card and clicked the button (when prompted) to leave a 20% tip. I then realized we had to get our own water and bus our own table. I really have no idea why I would even be prompted to leave a tip. You would think the staff would be friendly and upbeat when they get tipped for doing the bare minimum but that's not the case. No manners or even a courteous greeting. The food was okay. The bakery was clean... thanks to a fellow patron for busing their tables. meh read more

Visited this little sandwich cafe on my way through town. The food was really good and so was the service! Devin did an awesome job and helped me with all of my questions (which there are endless amount of due to my food allergies). I really appreciated the superb customer service, and the delicious food! Happened upon this place while on vacation in Hood River. Loved the vibe, the food/beverage selection, and the concept. It was a nice day so they had the glass overhead doors open, which was cool. Mediocre food and OK coffee. Very poor air circulation, the clothes smelled like food after we left. My cappuccino was just a huge blob of firm foam plopped on top of a shot of espresso. I'm giving one extra star because the espresso buried beneath the blob of foam wasn't awful, but I wouldn't order coffee from here again. read more

I just recently went into River Daze and the manager with the shaved head thought that she was aloud to treat her employees like a slave. I bring it up to the owners and they made excuses. Not happy. River Daze is the best sandwich in town. They are using as much local ingredients as possible and the quality shows. They are baking the bread for their sandwiches in house, the desserts are great. Nothing but good things to say about this place... Go see for yourself! read more

If you are on a schedule, don't go there. It took them about 45 minutes to make 2 sandwiches and 1 salad. The worst!
