City Sandwich has plenty of indoor seating. Local owned small business. It was almost closing time and only one person making food. They let us know a head that it may be a lil bit of a wait but that was ok, we had no clue what we wanted. I chose the #16 turkey and provolone sammy. My husband wanted the #15 but they ran out of ham. It was the end of the day, end of week. When I say this is the best sammy we have ate. The turkey was fresh, tasted so flavorful and clean. The sourdough bread was fresh and the portions were so big! They put extra meat on because they had no ham and didn't want to waste their meat as it was the end of day, like I mentioned previously. I was in here a few weeks ago and I gotta say I had a great experience. Service was fantastic right from the start. The juice was fresh and the sandwich was unbelievable. Real deal. You take a bite and you can tell they know what they're doing in that kitchen. The atmosphere in there was perfect too. Nice and relaxed, not too loud, not too crazy. I was able to sit down and study for a few hours and nobody rushed me or gave me a hard time. Just a good comfortable place to hang out for a bit. City Sandwich looks to be a mom & pop local favorite as there were a few customers coming through but not a normal lunch crowd for a downtown business area. Staff was nice, sandwich was made to order and in about 5 minutes. Here's my three things. 1) Basic menu with most sandwiches being ones you could make at home. 4 bread options and they have some additional sides other than chips. Couple of specials help brighten the menu. 2) Location is great and not crowded so easy to get a sammich. This is a sandwich shop and not a deli. I would recommend this business but with a caveat; Make sure you put an hour and a half on Parking Kitty before walking in to place your order. Although the sandwich is excellent (there is enough to split between two people) the ordering system and logistics seem flawed. Both times we have been there there were shortages of selections on the menu i.e. no sourdough bread, or, on one occasion, we were there just as the street was being torn up and the shop was out of provisions as the delivery truck couldn't find a place to park. This indicates a shoe-string operation without a lot of capital behind it. Will we go there again? Yes, as the sandwiches are terrific and we would like to try the soup and it's a true neighborhood deli type sandwich shop. read more

I typically order the #9 (Pastrami, Onion, Mustard and Provolone on Rye bread). It's fabulous. She is generous with the meat and the bread is soft and delicious. I have been here a couple of times, and there is a reason why. The sandwiches are some of the best you can find in the metro area in my opinion. This is a small space, but it's decorated really neat. They have a pretty large menu, but are famous for their egg salad I am told, I will get that next time. I came in for a pastrami sandwich but had my dreams crushed when she told me they were out! I went with a turkey and ham on sourdough, and let me tell you... they stack these sandwiches! I could hardly fit it in my mouth! The ingredients are fresh, the bread is fresh, and the quality is just exceptional. I had a cup of chicken wild rice soup to go with it and the soup was so good as well! Went to City Sandwich for a lunch meeting and was stunned by how busy the place was for a Monday at noon in Vancouver. They could have benefited from a revolving door there were so many people coming and going! That said, I'm unsure what the hype is about. It's fine food, but nothing special enough to draw that kind of crowd. Staff interaction was awkward from the get-go. First, I approached the counter and was told to wait a moment until the cashier was finished writing the previous ticket. No problem. Before the first person could finish their work, someone else came to take my order. I asked for a basic sandwich from their menu on sourdough. Those basic details were quickly forgotten. The staffer tried repeating my order to me three times and got it wrong each time. Finally, a cook told the front of house staff to forget it because the kitchen heard my order and was already make it. The food was fresh but expensive. I had the #5 Italy just by itself and the total was more than $14 plus tip. My friend only ate half of his sandwich and they wrapped the rest for him in a to-go wrapper. Better than a box in my mind. Sitting down to eat, the tables were old and had major wobbles to them. The ones that didn't wobble had wads of napkins jammed under their feet. Not the best dining experience. Also - I don't know the story behind it - but there's a big mirror and a mannequin on one wall and a mural of the Twin Towers on the other wall? No idea what that's about. read more

When I searched for "sandwiches" in Vancouver, City Sandwich came out on top. After reading the Yelp reviews, I knew in advance that I wanted to order an egg salad sandwich. I followed the Yelp directions and headed out for this storefront well before noon -- City Sandwich was known to run out of egg salad at times. I was able to park nearby at a meter, even though I didn't have any quarters in my pocket; some previous parker had left plenty of time for me to shop. It's curious: I didn't see the place right away because I was looking for something less modest. When I asked a nearby merchant where to find City Sandwich, I got a puzzled look -- "Near heard of it"! I did find City Sandwich after another 45 seconds of exploration. I asked for an egg salad sandwich on rye to go. They weren't out of egg salad, but they were out of rye. Accordingly, I took home a sandwich on wheat bread. And, how was the sandwich? Well, the Yelpers were right: it was really good. It would never have occurred to me to make an egg salad sandwich with a slice of American cheese in the middle, but actually the combination was fine. I wouldn't make a big detour to come back, but City Sandwich is worth at least a small detour. If you're driving, remember to bring some quarters. read more

Numerous call in to go orders had them hopping. For good cause, fresh ingredients on great bread. If you order straight from the menu, you miss out on much of the experience (bread, meat, cheese, mayo, and lettuce) but the menu has other spreads and vegetables as toppings. I was really excited to try this palace because I had heard really good things online about it. We walked in at 1:30p on a Monday and the place had one other couple sitting there eating their meal. We got to the counter and an employee peaked her head out of the back and let us know they only had marble rye bread left. We were okay with that, so we waited at the for someone to come out and take our order for like 5 mins and the same employees yelled out to "give us 10 because we're busy making sandwiches for another order. At this point, it sounded like they didn't want or need our business, so we politely left. We were getting into our car about to leave when another employee who was in the back came out and asked us to come back in and they would help us. I had heard some buzz at the office about these Samiches, and a couple colleagues and myself headed over for lunch in downtown Vancouver. Found an open spot right in front with a meter ($1.25/hour). There are a few tables inside to eat, so we decided to eat-in. They have a box lunch (sandwich, chips, drink & potato chips) but I opted for just a sandwich. Good thing, because that was a large sandwich. Ordered the Tuna Salad on Wheat. Took a little longer than expected, but it was the lunch hour. Sandwich was excellent. Fresh multi-grain wheat bread and fresh ingredients. Its always a pleasant surprise when a place can deliver a sandwich right and City Sandwich delivers.
