Excellent service, food, and hospitality. We stayed two nights and had dinner the first evening. I highly recommend visiting for a peaceful one of a kind experience. Carolyn greeted us at the door. She is a gem of a person and ensured we were well taken care of from the moment we arrived. Bonus that they have a dog Cuddles that like to be petted. The room was spacious, incredible, and had a small balcony overlooking a pond. The bathroom was perfect and had a walk in shower or bathtub. Chef Dave prepared a great dinner. Everything was fresh and made on site. When we asked about the lamb raspberry glaze, he shared his recipe and gave us a to go order of extra sauce. The road is a bit off the intertstate highway, but well worth the visit. This is unlike the chain hotels along the highway. The rooms are very well appointed, as well as breakfast served in the moring. A beautiful location in a quiet area a few miles out of Batavia. River Spring Lodge is a destination for a great dinner and to relax. There's not much to do nearby or on premise, and that's the point. It's quiet. Dinner orders are placed prior to arrival. Then when we checked in, we were greeted by Carolyn and Cuddles (their friendly dog). She confirmed dietary preferences, let us pick a bottle of wine for dinner, took our breakfast order, and explained how to use the TV remote and get to our room. While we waited for our 5:30 dinner reservation we sat by the quiet pond perusing a Genesee county tourism magazine. There were several wooden Adirondack chairs surrounding the pond and we enjoyed the quiet sounds of nature and birds chirping. The dinner was a multi-course, in-room dining experience. Each course was brought to a tray outside our door, and they would knock and leave the food there. You bring into your room and don't have to talk with anyone. Food was great! Breakfast was brought to our door the next morning (it's served between 8-9), and check-out is 10:30. Overall we had a great experience. Had an excellent stay for a weekend getaway. We've seen them on Spiel the Wine and we're glad we decided to go. Room was spacious, bed was comfortable. I wish I had looked for the model of the desk chair as it was super comfortable and I want one for my home office. Sitting by the pond was relaxing and plenty of fish came up close to shore. Food was delicious. The steak was tender and had nice grill marks adding a nice hint of charred flavor but not too much. My wife and I came here for a night getaway and the room was spotless! Cuddles the puppy greeted us at the door and Carolyn was most welcoming. She took our breakfast order first thing upon arrival. The room was great and we loved the heated bathroom floor and walk in shower of the Evergreen Room. We both thought our daughters would like it here as well. The breakfast was delicious, served promptly at our desired time. I liked that everything was individually wrapped and hot! River Spring Lodge provided 19 hours of pure heaven. Every second of our experience was perfection. A wonderful place for a special occasion. Innkeeper Carolyn was so friendly and informative right from the start, via phone calls and emails, answering questions and planning the meal and details for the in-room formal dining package. Final breakfast details were handled upon check-in, depending on what the choice would be for the day. We were lucky to have omelets, with five or six different choices, along with a few other sides. Every morsel of food served to us was flavorful, high quality, perfectly cooked and amazing. And, being with someone who is an excellent cook (not me), those opinions are high praise. Carolyn even had the timing of the course arrivals on point. No details were missed. The little bit of a country ride made it feel like we were going away, though still being close to home. The accommodations themselves were A+++. The comfy bed was heavenly, and the little stool for the high bed was definitely appreciated. The ceiling fan was helpful for a warm fall night, when you can't decide if you're hot or cold. Besides the meal, the high point of the stay was the multiple shower head shower room. Unbelievable pleasure Definitely something one could get used to. We had chosen the Evergreen Room, where the comfy couch sat in a cozy alcove. That couch definitely provided the comfort prior to bedtime to allow the digestion of our more than adequate sized meal. I can't say enough about our wonderful experience at River Spring. So this place is certainly in a pretty spot, and very tranquil. If you want to get away from it all I would absolutely recommend it as there is nothing to do and only 7 rooms. The food is excellent and the hosts are a very kind couple. I even loved their dog Cuddles who is very friendly and playful! What I didn't like about this place was the fact that the only food available beyond breakfast was only available from like 5-7pm (I believe) and was the four course meal...which was delicious for sure...but I didn't want to pay for that two nights in a row and would have preferred more options. The "lighter fare" menu on the website was not available. There's no restaurant or bar at all and all the food is brought up to your room. Also, there's no gym or pool so there really is no place to mingle with other people. Every room had a little balcony which is nice and the room was sufficiently spacious and comfortable. I probably wouldn't stay here again, not due to poor service or anything like that, but because I like to be able to order room service and have more food options, and I'd like at least a pool to go to. With a bar and a gym available too, even better! But if you want to escape the busyness of everyday life and have a nice dinner and stellar breakfast out in the middle of nowhere then I'd totally recommend this place to you. read more

Our first time to RSL. If I say it's off the beaten path, I mean it. A wooded drive off the main road opens to a clearing where the lodge appears opposite a 'spring lake'. The moment we entered we were greeted by Carolyn, shown to our table and given wine and dinner menus. We chose a Ferrari-Carano red blend which we enjoyed while deciding dinner and taking in the ambiance. The lodge is simply decorated and comfortable and quiet. Very nice. The dinner was 4-courses. We both ordered the Crab Bisque which was a little salty for us but still quite good. Crisp dinner salads followed with VG house made dressings. Cedar Planked Salmon and the Sirloin Tip entrees arrived next. Salmon was nicely done and served with couscous and asparagus sides. The Tips done in a rich demi glace were tender and topped with a sizable dollop of mashed potatoes and glazed carrots. We enjoyed the entrees very much. Desserts of Chocolate Cheesecake (ech, maybe should have had the Bread Pudding) and Creme Brulee (good) finished us off along with a satisfying cup of coffee. Even though the entire meal wasn't a hit, it was pleasurable to relax at such a low key setting as this and with the attentiveness of Carolyn. We will keep this on our do again list. What a jewel! You'll never find it unless you are looking for it, but you need to make a point in going. Beautiful, Clean and well appointed. I enjoyed myself immensely. It's so quiet and peaceful in an out of the way location. It's feels comfortable, but elegant at the same time. My husband and I stayed at River Spring Lodge for two nights and three days during the last week of August 2018 and had a truly wonderful time! Carolyn greeted us when we arrived, escorted us to our room, and showed us a few key features (e.g. air conditioning unit and TV). The room was immaculate with bathrobes and slippers provided - my personal test for exceptional lodging. We also had the pleasure of eating four delicious meals prepared by Chef Dave and warmly served by Carolyn - two dinners and two breakfasts. The king-sized bed was comfortable, the bathroom spacious, the shower refreshing, and the environment very quiet and relaxing. All of our expectations were exceeded and we could not have asked for a better escape from the hustle and bustle of New York City. We're looking forward to our next stay! read more

My husband and I took advantage of the "March Madness" deal of a room for $99 as a get away for ourselves. I have done a lot of traveling with my job and have never stayed in a cleaner room. The furniture was top of the line and the bed was so comfortable. We also enjoyed an amazing dinner, beautifully presented and tasted even better than it looked. To top it off we enjoyed a hearty breakfast the next morning as part of the room, it is after all a Bed and Breakfast, I have never written a review for anywhere I have ever stayed. The Spring River Lodge is an amazing location that I predict will become hard to obtain reservations as it becomes better known. My 2 girlfriends and I had the unfortunate experience of encountering Carolyn and Dave this past Friday. We made reservations a month prior after reading reviews and looking at the website. We were all so taken aback by Carolyn's attitude when we "tried " to check in. We were not greeted, or helped in with our luggage. Instead, we were told that no food was allowed in the room. Then Carolyn proceeded to tell us that it would be an extra $50 for the third person (extra toiletries and she electric). Ridiculous! Then, Carolyn left to ask the "chef", Dave, how much more it would be for the breakfast for the 3rd person. Dave came out and told us that the hotel info is all over the website and he didn't understand why WE were confused! Apparently, this is a couples retreat. Three professional young women , expecting to have a little getaway were treated with such rudeness ! There was never an offer to help us find any different accommodations. We were judged the second we headed into the lobby! A couple about our same age came in after us and were immediately welcomed and helped to their room without any question! My husband and I were there this weekend (08/19/2016.) My initial impression of the place was dimmed by the fact that there is no sign to find the place from the road. If it weren't for our GPS, and their mailbox, we never would have found the place! Once we arrived, we were impressed by the beautiful green pond out front and the building itself. The inside was beautiful, as was the room. There were however several issues that need to be addressed to make the price of this place match its value. First there is no fridge in the room. There was space for one, but there were none. Second, there was no ice machine available anywhere. Third, the room we were in had a couch in an alcove, which was very nice. However, at night, we realized there was no light in the alcove, so we couldn't sit on the couch and read or really play games or anything. Fourth, and probably MOST DISAPPOINTING, was dinner. We paid extra for private seating, and were placed at a table a few feet from the chef's table, where ALL the other guests were seated. My husband and I couldn't even hear each other, and it was not romantic at all. We felt like we were sitting at the kids table at Thanksgiving, especially with there being a whole dining room that wasn't being used. When we arrived we were directed to the bistro menu, and told to become familiar with it before dinner. So, we were under the impression that would be the dinner menu. However, come dinner time, the menu was an almost all seafood menu (it was Friday), different from the one we were directed to. My husband can't stomach seafood, and was upset that we spent $85 a piece for a meal he could only eat 1/4 of. They did give him an extra portion of the beef selection for the night to try and remedy the misunderstanding, but he wasn't able to eat until the 3rd course of the evening. I do not feel that the price we paid matched the value of what we received. Fix these issues and it may warrant a future visit. read more

We attended the Chef's Table and the food was excellent. It was small plates; however, we were all satisfied at the end of the meal. We weren't stuffed, which is a good thing. A couple of us stayed over night at the lodge. The accommodations were wonderful as were the innkeepers. Would recommend for a nice get-away or retreat. read more

The menu selection may not be huge, but selections of pork, beef, poultry and seafood are available. By limiting the range of choices, everything is fresh and prepared to the highest standard.
