Usually, this restaurant has been a place I truly enjoyed,my favorite spot, actually. But today it turned into the worst experience I've ever had anywhere. We went in to celebrate my dad's birthday, something very special to us, and what happened was beyond humiliating and deeply upsetting. Because they were busy, we decided we'd just enjoy our lunch and leave, skipping the birthday song. I had already told one of the waiters it was my dad's birthday, but as we were getting ready to go, the man in the photo told us, "Hold on, we're going to sing, don't leave." I thought that was thoughtful, and I said how nice it was. Then he came over with a plate of nothing but whipped cream and a cherry. I assumed it was just symbolic, like a stand-in for cake. But as they sang, this man suddenly smeared the cream into my dad's face. At first, when he dabbed a little on his nose, I thought maybe it was meant to be playful, but then it escalated. He kept smearing more and more all over my dad's face, even putting the cherry on his nose like a clown. My poor dad sat there completely horrified, and I was frozen in shock, unable to process what was happening. We left immediately, but the image of my dad's face covered in cream, humiliated in front of everyone just kept replaying in my mind. What should have been a happy, loving memory of celebrating his birthday is now forever ruined by an act of thoughtless, unprofessional disrespect. This restaurant used to be one of my absolute favorites, but now it will only bring back awful memories. I will never return. The staff must be trained to understand boundaries, this kind of behavior is not playful, it's humiliating. What happened was unacceptable, and it broke my trust completely. read more

My wife and I were craving Mexican food, so we decided to come in and try it since we live down the street. Initially we were impressed with the mariachi and how were we greeted but while there the all male weight staff kept looking over at my wife and making her uncomfortable. Another thing that was kind of subpar was that we paid 20 dollars for 4 bacon wrapped shrimp ( the bacon wrapped shrimp plate that comes with 8 shrimp and all the fixings is 23 dollars). At the end of our stay there and I paid out our server flirted with my wife in front of me asking her all sorts of questions such as "we haven't seen you around her before" "does your boyfriend not take you out" "well all looking forward to you to come back". In all honesty I don't speak Spanish but if my wife had told me this while we were at the booth I would have put hands on our server. He was disrespectful and out of pocket. Great family restaurant, affordable, friendly and quick service, regular spot for many in the area, food and drinks are good. They evidently trust the community so much that when you order take out, they don't even collect the cost - they have you pay when you pick up! Also when you order take out, they give you everything you would have had as if you sat down to eat ie tons of chips and salsa. It's always real busy on weekend nights and we accidentally went in right before they closed at 9 pm one night and they still seated us and gave us the full experience all with their normal great attitudes. read more

I'm always in search of a Tex-Mex joint that reminds me of my 1970s- early 80's childhood -- menus chock full of gooey enchiladas with chili or 'gravy,' tamales, lard-laden beans, and dry rice that absorbs everything that it touches. El Dorado is one of those places. It will never win a James Beard award. Neither with the Houston Chronicle reviewer lady ever walk through the doors here (it's not famous, after all). But the thin 1970s-style red salsa is worthy of being written about in Time magazine ... or at least Texas Monthly. This is the type of salsa that clings to the chip, with some onion and cilantro flavor, and a different level of spiciness with every bowl ... because they blend it daily. Love it! Everything during our visit was fresh. Corn tortillas (and chips) were fresh; enchiladas were gooey; rice was deliciously dry; retried beans were decent. Finally decided to try El Dorado after hearing about it in the local neighborhood. I decided to grab it to-go and upon arrival of placing my order on the phone and receiving it at the restaurant the staff was friendly. Each order you get a complementary side of chips and salsa. The El Rio was alright, I wasn't too big of a fan of the red Fajita enchilada sauce. The Tres Caminos and la bonita was good. The salsa was a little bit too watered down for me but it was still decent. Not the best Mexican food I've had but it's a good local place in the neighborhood where people can get reasonably priced Mexican food. read more

El Dorado is my favorite neighborhood "go-to" restaurant, and my husband and I visit at least once a week. The menu is so extensive that we never get bored, though we both tend to return to the shrimp enchiladas more times than not. And the frozen margaritas are perfect. I say all of this as an admission that I was already an El Dorado fan. However, the service this past Wednesday evening earned 10 STARS! At the last minute a group of friends from the Clear Lake Bridge club decided to to join us for dinner at El Dorado's. With no reservations and no firm number, we just started showing up. The staff just kept moving tables and adding chairs until there were over twenty of us! They waiters moved quickly to refill chips and salsa, keep our orders straight, separate our individual checks and bring carry-out boxes. Amazingly... unimpressive. Been wanting to try this place as a few folks I know recommended it. Nice atmosphere, nice staff, but the food is incredibly bland. They have a 100 choices on their menu, written in tiny print. Like most Mexican food, it's about 10 ingredients arranged in different ways. Gets a bit redundant. I got a fajita quesadilla, and my friend got guac salad and seafood nachos. Everything seemed like it was out of a can. It looked worse than something I could have thrown together with leftovers. The guac salad literally was an avocado smashed on top of some shredded lettuce. The food is incredibly bland and uninspiring. One bright spot was the house salsa, which was decent. When it comes to Mexican food, I'd like to think that I have an experienced palate. From going to Mexico multiple times, to trying every Mexican place in town where I've lived... El Dorado was pretty hyped up with my friends. I wasn't sure how they were going to taste considering the fact that many of the local Mexican places in Utah have the exact same food. However, when planning a trip to El Dorado, you will need to expect the unexpected. Upon seating, you will get the classic chips and salsa but we also got queso and it was sooo good! I'm terrible and done even remember what I ordered but I remember how unique and delicious it was. Typically places just have the typical: enchiladas, tacos, beans, rice, etc. El Dorado offers those but then says "but wait, there's more". This is our go to restaurant in the area for Tex-Mex. The service is always excellent and the food is good. Reasonably priced.

Judging from the outside this place looked iffy. But once we walked in the smell from the food was so good I think I started drooling. We sat down in a booth and was greeted by a nice man. The salsa here is SO good we couldn't stop eating it. Literally. There's no green sauce. We ordered two margaritas which were also very yummy! Now the food....this place has a giant menu of endless combinations of food! It was hard to pick what I wanted. I got chicken enchiladas with sour cream sauce, a taco, a tortilla puff covered in Queso, and a chicken taquito. The food was so dank... My boyfriend got a cheese enchilada with classic gravy sauce, it was gone in three seconds! Give this place a try, it's our new favorite hole in the wall restaurant! I love this place! I helped keep it open during the pandemic with my several orders monthly! Last night I went to the Uber eats app. Clicked on el dorado Mexican food and places my order. The delivery came and we were not given any chips or salsa (although we had a large queso) - hmm don't chips always come with fajitas for 2? They always give chips! We eat our weight in chips when we sit in the restaurant- but alas, no chips. The Dilemma ensued - not have chips - or drive up and get them - in the rain we decided on the later - we would make the drive. With no credit card, I walked in and kindly said "we ordered Uber eats and the chips were missing" - I assumed they would say "no or problem no Amiga" a term they often call me when I sit inside and eat - maybe offer me a marg while I wait? But alas... Not so fast! I was met with a very confused look and a very angry scowl "we do not use Uber eats!!!" I replied aghast "here is my receipt - I can still taste the to that I ate on my way here" what do you mean? "WE DO NOT USE UBER EATS! - surely how we at this point this guy would take pity on my rain soaked gaur and simply hand me a bag of those ever so freely given out - chips! I hate giving a less than positive review of a small restaurant. That said I really was disappointed. I got a chimichanga and it was just not good. I love chimichangas but this one came covered in chili gravy which just doesn't work. It was swimming in the gravy which was the let down. We ordered the lunch special and picked two chimichangas and a chili relleno and it also came with beans and rice for 15.95. Been coming here for years. Consistently good! Ordered to-go food a few nights ago. We ordered chicken and cheese quesadillas, cheese enchiladas and chicken fajitas. The enchiladas are lack luster and small. The fajitas were great and my daughter loved her quesadillas. The restaurant is super convenient to our neighborhood. Halfway through our meal, the entire staff kept trying to rush us out the door. They badgered us every couple of minutes until we had to ask them to stop, and kept trying to take our plates away while we were still eating. t's always been a Mexican Restaurant. When they built the strip mall, they put in a big MEXICAN RESTAURANT sign. El Dorado is the fourth or fifth outfit in this spot. They've got their own little sign, but the big sign never changes. The doors, on the other hand, have changed, and for the worse. I walk up to what is obviously the main door, because it's the big one under the little "El Dorado" sign. It's locked, blacked out, but a sheet of paper has an arrow and says 'Use Next Door'. The next door has another arrow and another "Use Next Door" sign. The third door appears to be part of the SuperCuts, and I almost walk away. But a waiter opens the door and waves me in. It's a fair sized restaurant - about 40 tables and booths, and the seating is clean and in good shape; no cracked vinyl. They've got large Mexican murals - Guanajuato and San Miguel de Allende. Nicely carpeted. I take a booth. The waiter brings chips and green & red salsa in large bowls. The red sauce is thick and not sweet - good - but lacks fire. I ask, but the busboy says they don't have more piquante salsa. The green sauce is meh. The lunch menu is extensive, but it's a large number of tiny variations on a few ingredients. Pricing is funny. Most things are $7.25, but some are $7.30 and some are $7.40. WTF? Nothing much for vegetarians, which is fine since I'm not. Most of the entrees are standard Tex-Mex fare. They offer "Chicken or Beef Breast" in mole, which sounds different. I order the Beef Breast (?). It comes with pico de guyo, charro beans, rice and tortillas. The beef mole arrives. It's one big piece, chuck steak I think. It's tough but it's been pounded pretty thin. The beef itself isn't very flavorful, but the mole and a Mexican cheese over add some good flavor, and a generous portion for the price. The charro beans are more like a medium bowl of soup, with tomato, onion and celery and a good hearty flavor - best feature of the meal. Mole sauce was respectable but not a very complex flavor. Tortillas and pico de guyo were OK, unspecial. The entree came on a big oval plate, standard restaurant whiteware, with the sides on melamine. Service was decent, not standout. I appreciated the quiet dining room and pleasant lighting. Decent job; standard Tex-Mex. A cut above the last 3 joints in this same location. read more

So I was so freaking hungry I forgot to take photos of the food! Yelp Elite faux pas! Actually it means I have to go back to get photos. Which I will because this place was pretty darn good! We've been going to the Kroger in the same mall because the one close to us is never stocked and seems super dirty so we decided to try here since we could just walk from the restaurant to the grocery store. It wasn't very busy when we got there and we were seated promptly and got chips and salsa quickly,along with our drink order quickly. The menu is huge. I mean if you can't find something on there you like you are super picky! Sorry not sorry. I decided on the beef and bean burritos and hubby got pork tacos. We didn't order quest or margaritas but after seeing another couple ordering them I wish we had! Ah well, next time! The food was good. Very solid except hubby said his beans and rice were cold. Of course he likes his food at boiling, tongue burning temperatures so I don't always listen to him. Mine was just fine. He said say the pork was tasty and tender but thought the price was a little high but not too unreasonable. My burritos were good and just enough for a small meal. If I had been hungrier I might have been disappointed but since I filled up on chips and salsa it was fine. The red salsa was a little tomatoey and not at all spicy sadly. I didn't realize they had green salsa until I heard another table request it so we will do that next time. They did keep the chips and salsa filled though so that was awesome. Soon after it opened we came here a few times. It's been too long to remember why but we stopped coming. My wife suggested we make a meal of nachos and try this place again. I vaguely remember we came here for nachos two or three times after we stopped coming for Tex-mex. But, there had to be a reason we stopped coming altogether. Tonight the nachos were not satisfying. They looked good on the plate but were mediocre. If you look at the picture you'll see there's an unusual amount of exposed chips with ingredients down at the bottom of the chip. This lets the ingredients cover the bottom of the plate making it seem like you get more than you get when they cover each chip. But, mostly they just didn't have a great taste either. As is true at most restaurants there wasn't nearly enough guacamole and sour cream. Maybe trying to compensate for the lack of satisfying taste we used all the jalapeno slices before the nachos were gone too. read more

We also like their mixed fajitas, fajitas ala Maria, fajitas Diablo, enchiladas verde, quesadillas, and tortilla soup. We rotate through all of these regularly. Great Mexican food. Love their fajitas, taco salad, and most everything else on their menu. Many of the local Mexican restaurants use a lot of black pepper. i have a sensitivity to black pepper so I try to avoid it. I'm thankful El Dorado's has not joined the trend. read more
