Chips & Salsa

This is place was just OK on our visit. Not great. But not bad. First, the place is clean, but it is also dank (I.e., cool and damp) much like some other restaurants along NASA Parkway that sit near the water. Not a deal-breaker. Service here on our visit was attentive and friendly. As I do on a first visit to every Tex-Mex joint, I ordered a combo platter to taste a little bit of everything. Additionally I ordered an a la carte tostada. My wife had a single cheese enchilada with rice and beans. The mains were decent -- adequately seasoned and served hot & fresh. But nothing really stood out. The rice here is OK. The beans tasted more like an afterthought that happened in the kitchen. I have two rules when it comes to (red) salsa. Rule No. 1 -- it must be served cold. Rule No. 2 -- Cumin has no place as an ingredient. Gabachos' salsa is served cold, but if the cumin in this stuff was a taxi cab, I could hail it from a mile away! Why do some Tex-Mex joints insist on this?!? The picosa (from the kitchen) "hot" salsa was fine as an add-in to the red stuff. The green is just OK. Nothing special.

I've lived in El Lago/Seabrook for 6 years and finally tried this place.. now I'm wondering why I took so long. My gf had the Flamado beef/chicken and it was really tasty. She also had their mango margarita and it wasn't too sweet, just like she likes them. I had the snapper fish taco grilled and it was very good. The owner was serving us at the bar and was very friendly. It won't be 6 yrs before I go back.

The food was good and the service was even better! The margarita was delicious! The server was a DARLING! I don't find myself in this area often, but will definitely be back. Nice and quaint, not crowded, plenty of room inside and out.

SO GOOD!! The queso is 10/10. The margs are super fresh, like no sour taste or syrup taste & I love that! Definitely WILL be back!!

COME TRY THIS HIDDEN TREASURE!! Super good food and drinks are yummy, love the MANGO MARG!! Service was fast and very friendly! Love the environment, music isn't too loud and everyone is nice!

My friend brought me here after spending the whole afternoon catching up on her schoolwork. The place was practically quiet, which made for a very nice ambience. If anything, though it was located on the very busy NASA Road 1, it had an out-of-the-way feel. Supposedly, not too many people know about the eatery. I sure didn't until today. The food? Mas o menos (Spanish: hit or miss). I ordered the taco plate consisting of three soft beef tacos, rice, and refried beans. The lone positive was the tacos. The beef was nicely seasoned and the vegetables were fresh. I could've sworn that the side dishes were riddled with too much salt. I'm iffy as to whether I'll give the place another shot. There may be other dishes, but they're accompanied by the rice and beans of which I'm not too crazy about.

I always enjoy when Mexican food restaurants have two salsas that come out with the chips, and Gabacho's had that. We came for national margarita day, even though they weren't offering any deals we got a margarita for $4.50 during happy hour. The food was a little too salty for me, and that's saying a lot because I love salt! The beans tasted like they came from a can. Overall it was a good trip. The server made our experience highly enjoyable and made us laugh. Great margaritas, and an outside patio. I highly recommend the green salsa, it tastes like a buttery tortilla.

Combo sample platter. Nachos in the background.

Great food, friendly staff. Sadly, we moved from Seabrook because of the traffic. Next time I'm in Seabrook I'll stop 8n!

I wasn't sure what to make of the request, but hung up. I told my husband about the phone call and he was less than thrilled. Based on the reviews, I thought there was great potential for a good meal. We drove to the restaurant, and as soon as I stepped inside, I understood what was meant about the line forming. In order to place your order, you must get in line. There's one individual taking orders. At the time we arrived, there was no line and no one inside. We asked a few questions for clarification and dietary advice. I ordered one of their specials with beans. My husband ordered an egg dish with beans and corn tortillas. We were asked if we wanted a drink, we said no, and the nice gentleman asked if we wanted water cups, to which we replied no. I had purchased several drinks the night before, as such we had several beverages in the rental car. I thoroughly enjoyed every bite of my dish. It was exactly what I thought of when I think of Mexican food. Great beans and rice. All around tasty food. My husband had the Caribbean omelette. I had an enchilada dish. I left maybe one bite on the plate.

Well..... the food was okay.. we had a large party of 10, so many different dishes were ordered and sampled.. the food overall is okay, but nothing wow about it.. rice was mid.. it just didn't hit.. if they said it was day old rice I'd believe it.. the beans tasted like they were from a bag or something.. again. They were okay not bad but not amazing, but neither rice or beans tasted homemade or freshly made, I'm Mexican and eat them daily. I feel like I know the difference but taste is completely subjective. Service was friendly our waiter was patient and took the time to answer our questions and concerns. They gave us chips and salsa, I'm visiting Texas and so far every place gives me warm salsa, maybe it's a Texas thing but it's just not something I'm used to but it tasted good just weird it's warm.. We had an issue with the horchata, not tasting at all like horchata, we asked the server what was in it and he was completely clueless and said I don't know, and on his phone while we asked this and just seemed not happy to be there, but they swapped it no problem.. thanks again, we got the lemonade and it was delicious. I ordered the carnitas and they were amazing.. I would recommend you get them yourself I've had lots throughout my life and they're definitely top 3. My mom ordered the shrimp cocktail, it didn't hit.. we ended up sharing my carnitas plate. I don't recommend the shrimp cocktail, the shrimps were tiny, precooked and I could tell they came frozen.. I love ketchup, but this was an excess. Idk something just wasn't right.. my mom ate maybe 1/4 of it and was done.. cousins got burgers and fries they were basic but hit the spot, someone else got fajitas and they hit.. enchiladas were yummy, someone got a tamale I didn't try it but they ate it all.. same with the crunchy tacos and tostadas.. overall the place was okay. Ambiance was great, it's nicely decorated and very cheerful., services was friendly and we finished it off with complimentary self serve ice cream..

They have a few different flavor profiles going on but they all seem to work. They do offer complimentary bread and butter, and have different happy hour specials during the week. For an appetizer, I ordered the crab cake appetizer that comes with two cakes and salad. I was very surprised at the size of the crab cakes! That basically could have been a meal by itself. I ate one so I could have room for my entree and I loved the lemon sauce that came with it. The flavor was yummy. Hubby the soup of the day which was like a crab bisque, which I got to try. It was creamy and a little on the sweeter side but also tasted good. For my entree, I ordered the stuffed Mahi Mahi. It comes with dirty rice and vegetables. I asked the waitress if I could sub the dirty rice and the only option she gave me was the Alfredo fettuccine. I was fine with that, but could not understand why substituting rice with the pasta would also take away my vegetables. So I had to pay an additional $10 to get a side of vegetables and I didn't like that. The portions of the entree are very big. Honestly, me and hubby could have split my whole meal and had been full off the one appetizer and entree. The stuffed Mahi was good and the sauce on it had a good flavor. The side of vegetables came with a trio of steamed broccoli, Zucchini that was sautéed in a sauce, and carrots. The waitress failed to explain that the carrots were actually a carrot puree. It was sweet and tasted almost like a sweet potato mash. It wasn't what I was expecting but surprised that it tasted so good. Everything individually tasted amazing, but I would not say that the flavor profiles are cohesive. Overall, it was a good dining experience and I left with food to still last me two more meals. I had the rest of the pasta with my crab cake for lunch the next day, and ate the rest of the fish and vegetables for dinner.

I'm finally dusting off my old 2017 review for Boondoggles to provide an update…read more I returned here last night for a pre-birthday outing. While randomly Googling, I remembered Boondoggles and decided to give the 'old place' another try. My first visit was for a dinner with classmates from UHCL; my second was with my brother. The eatery looked practically the same as it did nearly eight years ago. Its dive bar meets German beer hall vibe is still very much alive, and the place was still bustling with people. I came in with fish and chips on my mind, but a lengthy scan of the menu led me to the Florentini Chicken, while my brother ordered the shrimp po-boy. The Florentini Chicken was really good, and I think it's a solid choice for the health-conscious. The chicken was tender and the vegetables were perfectly crisp. My only wish was that the entire dish had been a bit larger, as the mashed potatoes were gone in just a few spoonfuls. On reflection, while the Florentini Chicken deserves a try, I'll probably stick with pizza next time. I asked my brother how he liked his shrimp po-boy, and he had no complaints, so I'll take that as a sign he enjoyed it. Price-wise, while the costs may have risen over the years, they were not unreasonable.
