The closest Home Depot to the Hampton's is in Riverhead, so this is your only choice. They have a large selection , have recently modernized the store with a new layout, and for the most part have friendly and knowledgeable staff. The prices are higher than Home Depot, but it's convenient not having the hour drive to Riverhead. They also have a design and showroom with much of the options on display for you to see before buying. They also offer installation on things ranging from front doors to ceiling fans. read more

This place is certainly not consumer friendly.t Their focus is clearly on contractors. God forbid you have a question. There is rarely a by one on the floor. And if there is they are normally dismissive. At my own peril I occasionally go for paint and lumber. It's too bad the service is so bad because they have a good selection and better pricing than the hardware store. But of course the contractor's received an additional discount. I really think they are making an error not making it consumer friendly. read more

The people that work here are really great. I've gone in needing to replace door knobs, build a fence for my dog, replace lighting fixtures... they can answer questions on everything. A lot of local builders seem to shop here as well, which is a good sign. There usually seems to be a wait to check out but the staff is friendly and chats while still getting stuff done. I've been going here for years and have never had an issue. There's plenty of parking; follow the oneway signs so you don't cause a traffic jam! read more

I hired them to install Bilko doors for my basement. They lasted 11 months and then one of the two doors fell off. I called them to see if they would come by to resolve the issue. They told me that I would have to give them $150 before they would stop by. I had someone else fix it. The installers did not install the cotter pins correctly and so there was a problem after 11 months. read more

Terrible experience, delivered damaged goods and then tried to charge to replace the units. Promised another delivery the next morning and didn't show up until late afternoon. Dont waste your time here. I went from making money on a project to loosing money because of them. read more

Where do I begin...I suppose at a $100k+ tab I've run up while my father and I have been building our house from scratch. I finally get to the stage of putting interior doors in my house and after a ridiculously difficult time trying to schedule the measurements of said doors, the less than helpful Jason and Tim finally got measurements and made orders (mostly standard door sizes). They promised a 10 day turn around. I then went to the house to check up on construction and saw all three of my bedrooms with doors floating in the middle of the frames, literally inches short on every side. Followed by a realization that 2 doors were completely missing and there was no hardware on site. After speaking with my GC, it came to my attention that the doors were ordered incorrectly by Jason and Tim - the "specialists". Having admitted their wrong doing, they still refused to refund/return/cancel the incorrectly measured doors and I had to have the doors replaced with custom doors my carpenter built for $1k/door. I was also told hardware would be "right there", which obviously was another lie. With $100k on their books, you'd think there'd be some accommodation and consideration. I must say, if it hadn't been for their monopoly on the east end, I'd've taken my business elsewhere in a heartbeat. Buyer beware. read more

Right when I entered the building, someone was already asking me if I needed help. Really friendly and fast service. It's so much better than lowes or home depot. The person told me exactly which aisle I would find what I needed, and then when I was walking down the aisle looking lost ( I'm not much of diy handy person), someone else pointed me exactly where I could find it. I was very pleased. I was in & out of the store within 10 minutes. I also had a glass in which they unfortunately did not carry, but recommended a few other places to get it. When I was waiting on line to purchase my items, I overheard a woman being helped and she seemed quite pleased with the service as well. This place knows what they're doing. They have everything you could need in order to do any work around your home. If they do not carry it, they'll be more than happy to help you find a business that would help you. Im usually intimidated by hardware stores. But this place made me feel comfortable. There was plenty of parking, the prices weren't crazy expensive, and everyone was just so helpful. I don't mind paying a premium to buy local rather than from Big Box or On Line. However, I resent being ripped off. I bought a $70 router bit from the East Hampton Store. After I opened it, I noticed it had a 1/2" shank. My router can only use a 1/4" shank. I went to return it, and because I had torn the bar code sticker, RBS claimed they couldn't resell it. Of course, the manufacturer would have had no problem sticking a new label on it if RBS would have returned it to them. After checking with the manager, he would refund 50% of cost or I could keep it. Take it or leave it!! I don't know if it was my fault for not noticing the larger shank on the display rack, but I certainly would understand a restocking fee of 10% or so. But 50% or $35 charge for something that would have taken minutes to fix is OUTRAGEOUS. I am upset enough that RBS just lost my business. I have been going to RBS for the past 30 years. read more

This lumber yard has young people (seem 19 - 25 years old) working inside in which it has given a bad look to this lumber yard. Every time I go I spend over 30mins looking for one or two items in which I can't afford spending so much time looking for an item. I walk all over the place back and fort and don't see anyone around to ask for help besides the cashiers (from 3 to 4 cashiers) who are extremely busy with a long line of costumes ready to pay waiting for them, so there's no way I'm gonna get in front of them and ask them for help when they're busy and trying to get people to checkout. Every time I ask one of these young guys for help or an item I need they just tell me which aisle I could find it and they keep walking (Sometimes I can't find it after they told me the aisle, I need help again) I can't find anyone I see people wondering around just like me looking for items and no one around. I've asked the young guys for an item and their respond in within second they don't have it or if it's not on the shelves they don't have it. C'mon they can go to the back prob see if they have some in the back. I do not think RBS does the inventory and gets 3 12' eye hooks for a week, you gotta have some back up. My point is these young guys are somehow lazy or not trained well to do a good costumer service and instead of hiding from people they should walk around and offer some help. read more

Great hardware store. They have a large lumber yard. This is where all the local builders and contractors go for all their supplies. The staff is a friendly and always willing to help you get what you need. Power tools, paint, hardware, electric, plumbing... the whole nine. I ordered cabinets for my kitchen and bathrooms from Doranne at the East Hampton showroom. She came and measured several times and I chose a cabinet door I liked. When the cabinets were deliverd (and they came later than expectd) the doors did not match. They looked like they were 2 different styles. Doranne said that's how they come as they are different size doors. I suggested that since she was the kitchen designer and was aware they'd look different, maybe she could have steered me to a different door style.... I solved the problem by having an additional panel added so the doors looked consistent. But that was only the first problem. A clip to hold a panel in place was deliverd broken and she neglectd to order a new one until she was reminded at the end of the job. She also mismeasured a cabinet in the kitchen so when it was installed, it sagged. She said it should have been made smaller, and to solve the problem she suggested adding a post in the middle which would have destroyed my pot and pan cabinet. Instead my contractor added a steel support to shore up the cabinet so it wouldn't sag. In a bathroom, she mismeasured a door and when she realized it didn't fit, she said I could just have open shelves. It was an unacceptable solution and my contractor saved the day by cutting into the wall and recessing the door to make it fit. To compensate me for my extra contractor work, she said I would get a $300. rebate. But she insisted on charging me $400. to add panels to the cabinet doors to make them match. I called her supervisor Tom Price, who was initially helpful and waved the fee in lieu of me receiving my rebate. This took 3 weeks to negotiate which set back my work. Ultimately, he promised to call back and come and see the problems in the job which he never did. Working with this company and this staff was completely unsatisfactory. Doranne did not communicate well, was not responsive to my calls and emails. This was a big ticket purchase and I expected reasonable service which I did not get. I strongly recommend NOT using this company and certainly not using Doranne. read more
