Failed twice to fix recalled airbag problem, then claimed problem (dead airbag) was unrelated to recall and wanted $2300 to fix. Never again. Not Toyota, and especially not Riverhead Toyota. Addendum: They fixed the truck for free after I complained to the NYS Attorney General's Office. If you have a problem with a car dealer, don't hesitate to call in the big guns. I enquired regarding an in-stock 2019 4Runner TRD Pro. Although the salesperson was certainly adept and professional, the dealership provided me with a window sticker on the in-stock SUV I was interested in, which clearly showed the MSRP at $48,862.00 only to offer me the truck later for $52,826, a markup of almost $4,000 over the sticker price (Purportedly due to low inventory and high demand) sending a loyal Toyota owner elsewhere. read more

nasty sales manager, first they tell me 750$ to order new rims valued at 85$ each to put on new vehicle. I said that's high they then said they can do it for 600$. I said ok after rims installed they tried to charge me for wheel balance and bill me over 730$ , which I refused to pay , contacted Toyota customer dept. and they had bill reduced to 600. in the mean time chad, salesmanager was nasty and threatened to call police on me if I didn't supply credit card ASAP he said.. Do not even think of leasing or buying a car here. The finance department has been no help in resolving a problem going back to February 2017 in which Riverhead Toyota failed to make the last 4 payments as promised, on a leased car which was returned. Oh yes they were more than friendly in leasing the next car I got, but they have not bothered to remedy this problem so that now I am being pestered by a collection agency. Bottom line: customer service is awful; finance department is negligent. Many people there are disrespectful, acting like my little complaint doesn't matter because they have bigger concerns. My point to them is that they lied on several occasions when they said the matter was cleared up. Don't trust a car dealership where people don't tell the truth! read more

I needed a windshield replaced and an inspection on my 2016 Tacoma that was purchased from Riverhead Toyota. I asked the service department if they do windshields and was told they do. I explained that I prefer to have my dealer do all service rather than Safe Lite or another auton glass company. So I try to make an appointment, perpetual hold and no calls back so I book on line. Five days later I get a confirmation for the inspection only so I call and ask about the windshield. I was informed that I could not schedule that on line. I asked why they did not reach out to tell me that when they say the request? Radio silence. After much grief I get an appointment. On arrival no one knows anything about the windshield and hat they will need to call the auto glass shop that does thier work. What happened to yes we do windshields? I am told that they will arrive between 9am and 11:30am. What happend to my 8am appointment? Unreal. Long story short, they bungled the appointment, scratched my hood and bashboard, gave me a new but filthy windshield, the registration fell off before I got home, I lost most of a days work, got to drive to riverhead and back twice in one day and they charged me $30 for a loaner car. Almost forgot, my righthand fog light is completely missing and it was never caught on the inspection. I have tried to communicate with the service manager and the owner and have gotten no reply. I think m 82 year old father purchased 4 or 5 possible cars from this dealership. The last one that he purchased ended up being totaled shortly after purchase. Im just learning now that they have put my father in collection because he had not signed up for GA insurance. Pretty disappointed that the dealership did not reach out to me as I had worked with them on the previous purchases, to confirm that my Dad understood what this insurance was for as I would have had him take it for the nominal fee it cost. I'll admit, I don't usually like salesman. I'm in sales myself so I know the tactics. I went to look at a used car at this location. I've been looking for this particular car for some time. I asked to speak to a salesman snd got a guy named Ali ( I hope I spelled that right).. He was awesome! I was on guard at first but he had a great vibe and didn't seem pushy. I looked for every sign and excuse to walk away from this but it seemed to good to be true at first. It wasn't. I waited a week to write this review, also something I don't normally do. The entire situation went with out a hitch! I couldn't be happier! Every single person I encountered at this dealership was the nicest anyone could be. If this was so e sort of pre arranged scam then they've got it down pat! There's no way this was choreographed. I believe they are just that awesome. The rudest car buying experience of my life! The minute I walked in the door, the salesmans first question was "How old are you?" What kind of introduction is that?! After coming back from the test drive, the sales rep became pushy and aggressive about making the sale even after I told him I was only shopping around and was not interested in purchasing or leaving any money down at all that day. After giving in to his demands, I put a $250 hold on my credit card for the car. The next day, I decided to pass on the vehicle and called to have the hold removed from my card. Instead I was told to call back Friday because that is when refunds are issued. So when Friday came along, I called back and was then told to speak to my sales rep who happened to be off. Saturday rolls around and I am now instructed I must come to the dealer, fill out paperwork and have my credit card run again in order to get my refund. What a tremendous inconveniece to make me come back! On top of that, I was never told I would have to return to the dealer in the event of a refund. Add to that that my Mom called the dealer to help me out and received rude treatment from the sales rep who had previously been rude to me and my fiance earlier in the week. I will NEVER be buying a car from here again and would never wish this experience even on my worst enemies. This dealership should be ashamed to treat potential customers this way. I owned two Corollas prior to this and am now done with Toyota based on this experience. I am glad I did not give this place my busienss after this ordeal. I just want my refund and want to avoid this place like the plague. read more

We purchased our 2010 Prius at a competition Toyota dealership and were very disappointed with the service department. Two friends recommended Riverhead Toyota and we have been completely satisfied for the last five years. Although our Prius was a dream come true, we traded it in at Riverhead Toyota for a 2014 Toyota Avalon Hybrid because we wanted a larger car for trips to Florida. We could not be more happy with our Avalon for comfort, performance, mileage and luggage space. In addition, it is a sharp looking car and two of our friends bought the same exact car after seeing ours. Purchasing our car from salesman Dan Gladd at Riverhead Toyota and meeting Ted the owner of the dealership were both very pleasant experiences. They were both so friendly, knowledgeable and professional. Every time we return to Riverhead Toyota for service, we are greeted by pleasant, efficient service advisors. Unlike another competition Toyota dealership, the waiting room is bright and roomy with comfortable seats. On our last appointment, we drove into a new large building. Service advisor Eddy Gonzalez came right over to us with pad in hand. He took our initial information and directed us to his service station. Then we went into the waiting area where they even provided coffee and cookies for the customers. We were there for an inspection and the last tire rotation on the free two year maintenance plan we received with the purchase of our Avalon. Eddy also went out of his way to reset our iPhones with our car Bluetooth. He was so patient and knowledgble as he answered all our questions about the process. After a short wait Eddy returned with our bill and directed us to two cashiers who greeted us with a smile. All of the employees we encountered on our visit were friendly, courteous and professional. If there is one suggestion to be made, it is to try to provide the service advisors in the new large entry building for the customers' cars with a closed in quiet area for consultation with the customers. We must add that it was very comfortable to drive into this building on the wet, cold and stormy day we were there. Since the entry building is new, perhaps the minor noise problem will be fixed by our next visit. The best automobile advice we can give to everyone is the advice we received from our friends five years ago. GO TO RIVERHEAD TOYOTA FOR FRIENDLY, COURTEOUS, EFFICIENT SERVICE. read more

I leased two Priuses from Riverhead Toyota, and when I turned in the first one three years ago, Jay, my salesperson on both of them, promised to go to bat for me if Toyota Financial Services gave me a hard time on the scrapes and nicks charges. He looked at the car and estimated a few hundred dollars. When I got the bill, it was for $1,700 or so. I called him, and he said he'd contact them and negotiate on my behalf. He never did. I was left to do it on my own. So I decided I would not go back. When their business development person called me a couple of weeks ago, I explained in detail why I wouldn't be re-leasing another car through them. Meanwhile, I'm shopping for a new car on line, and as soon as I put in all of the contact info I'm accosted by several area dealers, including Riverhead. It's as if she forgot I said I'm not going back there. read more

Had an appointment at 11:30 on Monday for an oil change, inspection and to look at our tire because it had a gash in it and was leaking air. We live an hour away so my husband took the car to Toyota, got checked in at 11:15. Great. He calls me 2 hours later, still waiting. Maybe they are very busy even though other people have been in after him and have already left. We decide to wait a bit longer. After 4 hours Nicole comes in to tell someone else their car is ready. She sees my husband and tells him she's going to check on our car. She comes back says they only did the oil change. They forgot about our car, the paperwork got "stapled" to something else. Sure. So after 4 hours of waiting the car won't pass inspection because the rim on the tire I said was leaking air needs to be replaced. Of course they need to order it and we would need to come back another day. Also she was rude and unapologetic for wasting our time. After voicing our frustration of waiting for no reason she raised her voice to my father in law and suggested to my mother in law who was with my husband that next time we should ask for someone that speaks Spanish. The manager came out and apologized for her behavior and assured us next time would be a quick visit. Got a call from Nicole on Wednesday says the tire isn't leaking air they will just replace the rim and pass the inspection. She suggests to come in Friday while she is there, it will be very quick in and out. Get there on Friday after 1hr and 40 mins of waiting she comes up to my husband to say "it's almost done." What?? After waiting a total of 2 hours the manager comes up to tell him the car won't pass inspection because there's a gash in the tire (that we told them was there from the beginning!!) and they don't have it in stock. We will need to come back another day. According to the manager the reason it took another 2 hours today is because they ordered the wrong tire and were going through their inventory of cars to possibly take a tire off one the cars in the lot to put on our car. I know they never ordered the tire in the first place because she said we didn't need a new one. Best part is they offer to "comp" us the inspection because we already have free oil changes and pay for Toyota care in case something were to happen to the tires. Wow, $37. So now today after driving another hour for a "quick" appointment we have to come back for a third time because they didn't order the tire that we said we needed. Absolutely worst experience. I wish I could give ZERO stars. Would 100% not recommend and I'm never buying another Toyota. read more

My salesman initially treated me as though I was just a woman trying to test drive a truck; I didn't feel as though he was taking me serious as a person trying to buy a new vehicle. He did offer good knowledge about the vehicle and genuine answers to my questions but once it came down to numbers, I was given the run-around. "I don't do numbers" I was told. "I'll have to talk to my manager." When the manager did come over to tell me numbers, he just told me I couldn't afford what I was asking for and pushed me into a lower model vehicle. Had he taken my requests more seriously, he probably would've kept the sale, but I felt belittled and run-over at that point. Never once was I given an actual price for the truck that I was trying to purchase, I was only told what my monthly payments would be. When I went home and added everything up, I found that I would've been paying over $3,000 more than MSRP. So clearly, I was no longer interested in the offer. I went back the next business day to get a $500 refund for my deposit, however they apparently don't let the salesman do that either. My refund had to be processed by the finance department. 10 business days passed; I called three times over those 10 days, yet the refund was still not be processed. On the 11th day, and the 4th phone call, I was finally able to get a manager on the phone who was able to "pull my papers" for the refund. Why this sat on a desk for so long, is beyond my comprehension. The way this business is run is completely disorganized and there are clearly too many people trying to do one job. Salesman need to be able to run their own numbers and process their refunds when their customers aren't satisfied. read more

We called to make an appointment to get a light replaced on our car, they gave us a 2pm time slot. When I arrived with the car, it is over an hour drive from our house, they said we would have to come back in to days as they needed to order the part!! Would have been nice if someone on the phone had told us this. I like the staff at this dealership for both Sales and Service. The thing that I don't like is my Toyota Highlander Limited 2012 Model. The brakes on this vehicle are so inadequate for the massive weight of this SUV. The throttle response also sucks as well. I brought this to the attention of the service department and there response was that the computer tracks your driving habits and responds accordingly. On THREE occasions I was almost T- Boned on the highway, near death experience, and fractions of a second away from death. This vehicle sucks! read more

DO NOT GO HERE! I NEVER write reviews BUT here goes. I purchased my 2013 Prius from Riverhead Toyota approximately five years ago. I live locally and have been bringing it in for service every 5,000 miles so that the car can be taken care of properly and also to maintain a valid service history on the car for trade in AND resale purposes. Recently though the master warning light kept coming on and I couldn't figure out why? After replacing the key battery and doing a little research online I discovered it could only be a few things, finally it occurred to me to check my oil. All I can say is that the oil was dangerously low. Now as a frame of reference, my car was last serviced by these clowns on September 15th. So I panicked and brought the car right in to the Huntington dealership because I was closer to them. They confirmed that there was no leak, that Riverhead techs probably had not been checking my fluids even though the paperwork indicates that they are supposed to and that my car was two and half quarts low on oil. When I called and requested to speak to the service manager, Michael Hamill he wasn't exactly accommodating and in fact, had the nerve to tell me to calm down. After I explained that I've been bringing my car there for five years and no one is checking the fluids, the only thing he offered me was a free oil change. Are you kidding me? a. I wouldn't dream of bringing my car back there and b. that's the best you can do? Evidently you don't care about your job or the business you're helping to run. All I can say is this is no way to run a business! Not professional at all. Never going back!!! read more

I have been a customer at this dealer for years. The overall service has become so piss poor I can no longer give them my business. My advice to you, do not buy a car there if you plan to have it serviced there because they are WAY too busy for all the customers they already have. Getting a lunch date with the Pope would be easier than getting a service appointment at Riverhead Toyota. Even when I said I was willing to drop my car off and leave it without a loaner for a few days I was told they were too busy! Finally after several snarky calls I got an appointment. Interestingly they still have time to up sell you once they get your car. I was there for an oil change and to have a loose part fixed, they had my car for 4 days, told me I needed a tune up-ok fine. Over $400 later I'm driving home and realize they never filled my windshield wiper fluid! Zero attention to detail. Riverhead Toyota is not like any other dealership. I have purchased multiple trucks and SUVs from them and have always had exceptional service. I am very particular with the options I wanted in my truck and they were able to meet all of my requests and went above and beyond. Even though I live much closer to competition Toyota, it is worth the extra drive to get the quality experience that Riverhead Toyota provides. Chris, the accessories guy, was also very helpful with putting in a remote start in my truck and adding on racks. The only dealership I know that does not charge any "extra charges." I will not go anywhere else. Update: just had my car serviced here and the service is getting a lot better than it used to be. read more

I'm sure you can look up my correspondence with Arlene. My dad and I had been shopping around for some time, using True Car and visiting dealerships. We were upfront with everyone, not interested in playing games, just looking to buy the car from the dealer willing to let it go at the lowest cost. I am sure you won't be surprised this was a very frustrating experience as not every car had every exact option, thus differing pricing. AND what I wanted, no CP package, didn't exist with any Prius 4 on LI. I ultimately came to your dealership as we had the best price quote, and we used you for serving my 2010 Prius. Sadly, it turns out "Arlene" the online person had made a "math error" and the quote I had was wrong. Wrong by about $3000. Suddenly my car for 29k was 32k. Sitting with "Jamie" I didn't realize exactly how off it was as he had included my $500. deposit and my $500 coupon post card, where as her numbers obviously did not. At this point I just wanted the car, and Jamie was not like the "other" sales persons I had encountered along the way. I did however reach back out to Arlene, pointing out what had happened and requested that she or the manager throw in some easy throw in's, like "all weather mats". Dealer cost....$100? I was later told by Jamie that the "Manager" said no. I wanted to "Gap insurance", and asked if this could be thrown in. "NO" the "Manager" said no, not at this price. So now I am writing to you. "Not at this price"? The car was almost $33,000. This dealership can't throw in a few things worth about $100 each? Not my idea of customer service. "Your satisfaction means a lot". Good. I've really tried to like this place, to no avail. The service department is horrible, the last visit being this morning. I re-arranged my entire day when I made the appointment because I travel a ways and they are always behind. Pulled up and there was a double line of cars waiting to get inside and both bays full. There was no way I was going to be having my service done close to my 11 am appt. Turned around, left and made an appt. with my local service station for tomorrow. Will be heading to Smithtown for my next new Toyota. I would like to add, whenever I've purchased a new vehicle from any dealership, I've always received a follow up call from them asking if I liked the vehicle, and if I had any questions or comments about it, etc. I purchased my Toyota 3 years ago this year, and not one phone from anyone at the dealership. Oh..and there was the time, the dealership didn't remove my insurance information off my last trade-in and the new buyer was in an accident. My insurance company notified me right away that the trade in vehicle was still in my name and wanted to confirm I no longer owned the said vehicle. They get you in and out pretty much on time, and for standard service, like oil changes, the discount coupons which they often mail to our home, make the cost very reasonable. Dan went out of his way to make sure that all of our needs were exceeded. After growing out of our old Toyota and coming back to dealership for multiple test drives with different models Dan was very patient and was able to get us our favorite color, interior, and layout. On top of having the model we wanted we were offered more at Riverhead Toyota for our trade in that the two other dealers we shopped at, a lot more. I purchased a new car from Riverhead Toyota less than four months ago. The car stopped working so I took it in for service. Riverhead Toyota refused to try to fix the car and Chad Echezuria told me to leave and never come back again after laughing in my face and saying there was nothing wrong with the car. I did file a complaint with the Toyota National Headquarters who assured me my car was under warranty and would be fixed. They recommend Middle Island Toyota as a dealership who will actually attempt to repair the car. For anyone reading this do yourself a favor and go to Middle Island Toyota. read more

Not a nice place to take your vehicle. Bought a new 2012 4runner in Mass. after we couldn't do a deal with Riverhead. Got the vehicle with more options than Rhd. could offer for almost $2000.00 less. Also got retractable running boards on it. (according to svc. manager at Rhd; "no such thing"). Proved him wrong. Now for oil change and yearly inspection; was told we need brakes like "now" on fronts, sounded not right. Took vehicle to my own mechanic; don't need them for at least 10,000 - 15,000 miles and one of the wheels wasn't even pulled. They also somehow disabled our remote start and then said they didn't do it and now can't find out what is wrong. STAY AWAY!! read more

Service department is slow. Oil change takes 2 hours. Not thorough on things needed to be done. For example three was a recall for the Prius and they never even advised me that it should be done. It seems like if you know someone or not a colored person you are out in a jiffy. Otherwise wait a minimum of two hours, no updates. read more

My Tundra pickup was recalled and a new frame, due to excessive rust accumulation, was installed. Immediately upon picking up the truck (only 28,000 miles) I noticed the gear shift was not registering accurately. It would not start in Park sometimes, and needed to be shifted to Neutral to get it going. Sometimes slipped from Drive to Drive 2. It wasn't a big deal, so I lived with it for a while. Then, last week, the truck slipped from PARK to REVERSE while there were little kids in the vehicle and the engine was running, while I picked something up off the road. I raced to the truck, opened the door and reached for the brake to stop the motion. I then tried the PARK position again, and twice more it slipped into reverse. Back to Riverhead Toyota. My feeling was that since the problem started immediately after the frame was replaced, there had to be a connection with the problem. I am not a car mechanic, but the serviceman at my local station assured me there was a relationship between removing the frame, replacing it, and adjusting those cables during the event. To make a long story short, Toyota refused to honor the repair as part of the work that was completed previously. I appealed to the Toyota Customer Experience center, and was also turned down. Repair job: $550.00. I will continue to pursue this legally (or internet virally) -- just beware of this service center and beware of the Council of Wizards who stand in judgement of your money. read more

Came in for a routine service and repair of non-working auxiliary outlet. The routine service was performed as expected but they didn't have the part to repair the outlet. I read other reviewers with a similar problems. This dealership in Riverhead is too far to be traveling back and forth for parts issues especially since they should have known what they would have needed to fix a scheduled repair. What a shame, but service will lose my business for this dealership when I purchase another vehicle next year. read more

We I tried to cancel they gave me a very hard time and made me come back to the dealer to get refund .then they made a copy of my credit card and never issued me a credit on the spot which was really shady they wouldn't even give me a receipt and took all my paperwork as well and wouldn't give it back to me!!! Now 2 weeks later I still have no credit on my account and my credit card info is floating around there office. The salesman jay was extremely rude and made me wait around for a half hour to NOT give me a credit and take all my paperwork . I left a message for chad the manager yesterday 5/15/13 about refund and he never call me back . My CC company said to try one more time before I dispute the charge. They were so easy to swipe the card to take my money but what a fiasco to get a refund ! I will be posting lots of bad reviews about this dealership and letting everybody know at every level of social media not to BUY anything there !!!!! read more

My husband and I went to Riverhead Toyota last weekend to discuss a lease on a new Scion TC. Our salesman Diego was an absolute pleasure. He was very informative and did not push us for a sale. Unfortunately he was the only good part of our experience at Riverhead Toyota. He advised us at our appointment that he was taking a vacation the following week and our information would be transferred over to another sales person Joe D. A few days later my husband and I are on our way back to the dealership and running a few minutes behind. We get a phone call in the car from an audibly annoyed Joe D. We advise him we are on our way and he is very short with us. When we arrived at the dealership, he asked us to take care of our insurance for the new car, handed me a phone and walked away for a few minutes. He continued to circle us like a vulture as we set up our insurance for our new lease. He made me very uncomfortable. When he returned he was again very short with us. Moving forward in the process, we are given keys to the car but two of the three keys did not work. I had to come back the following day (a half hour drive on what was supposed to be a relaxing Sunday), to get the correct key. I watched Joe D as he frantically tried searching for the correct key. He asked a half dozen people before finally getting me the correct keys. Now I finally have the correct keys and I think the process is over... NO! I call my insurance just to follow up on my recent activity and I am told we need to send over our lease agreement and sticker from the outside of the car. Guess who did not give us the sticker... JOE D! When I called the dealership to speak with him, I was told I had to leave a message. I called back an hour later and he had left for the day. I spoke with a girl at the front desk who took down all my information and advised me Joe D. would be back in the office at 9am the following day. She said she would leave my message on his desk, but I suppose he ignored that too. 11am the following day I try calling him again, but I am told he is on the phone. I requested to wait on hold for him and I am told after just a few minutes that he is busy and I can leave another message. My husband then calls the dealership and Joe D suddenly feels the sense of urgency to call me back. He calls from a blocked number, very shady even for a salesman, and advises me he will take care of it today. I'm not holding my breath and I'm certainly advising anyone that reads this to request a new salesman if you end up in his hands. read more

I was trying to purchase a car at previous dealership that didn't honor my deal when they finally found the car that I wanted. I then went to Riverhead Toyota and met with Dan T. After sitting down for 20 minutes I had a better deal than I had at the previous dealership which took 2 hours to negotiate. Dan T was straight forward, honest and did everything he said he was going to do. After a couple days Dan called me and said they found the car that I wanted and we scheduled a day for me to pick it up. It was an absolute pleasure working with everyone at Riverhead Toyota. It was a simple and easy experience. I highly recommend working with them. read more
