we just had lunch here and it was a very nice afternoon on the patio. the food was really good and our server (whose name I swore I'd remember, but didn't) was very pleasant and accommodating. the view is nice and its on the Millennium Trail. my wife had the chicken pot pie and I had the halibut and chips. not inexpensive, but good just the same. I gave only four stars because some of the condiment containers could use a wipe, and when we were given the dessert menu, we weren't told of the dessert that they were out of....... which of course was our first choice! read more

What happened Saturday night? River House is my go to lunch spot when entertaining business friends and I probably eat there 10x a year. Normally it's spot on (inside joke). Last Saturday I experience failure on almost every level. The worst margarita I've ever been served - no trace of tequila and a glass so full of ice it was gone in 2 big gulps. This was seconded by my table mate who quickly switched to white wine. 3 of the 4 dinners were cold. The oysters had been over-breaded so came off like bad fish and chips. The halibut special was $34.95 or thereabouts and was so small my wife had to have a snack when we got home. It was also served cold-ish. The Pat Quinville burger was cold as if it was left without warming lights as the rest of the meals came out from the kitchen. Finally the after dinner coffee was cold. My prime rib was good so I had no idea of how disappointed my table mates dinners were. My dinner for 2 was $147.00 including the margaritas and 2 glasses of wine for my wife and I. Normally for that cost I would expect a solid dining experience- this was far from it. The restaurant was empty at 8:30 - I suspect I now know why. read more

I moor my boat at the Marina so we would sometimes eat at the Riverhouse after a day out cruising. The burgers are gourmet quality, the quesadilla is massive and bottomless drinks and great service really stand out. It's not a cheap meal but the quality is very good. A great meal after a long cruise on the water. "All" of the staff are so damn friendly too! read more

This restaurant is by far the worst place ever. We will not return. The food is not fresh and reading the previous reviews that said it was good is ridiculous. I am wondering if the staff wrote them. The service is terrible. Very rude waiter. She stomped around and we were made to feel uncomfortable. Talking to the manager is no better. The only thing it has going for it is the view. The food was just okay. Nothing anymore special than your average restaurant . The chefs choice was excellent. The seafood casserole was a huge disappointment. It was just baked seafood chunks with cheese melted on top of it.. The oysters were good but the salad that came with it was served with goat cheese that was musky and over powered everything. It left a bad taste. The service was horrible. It started out okay but when it came to splitting the checks, that's when it went over the servers head. She messed it all up and forgot who ordered what.. Very disappointing to what could have been a lovely dinner. read more

Came here on Mother's Day, had reservations. Arrived and hostess had no clue where to seat us, followed her through the dining room, then through kitchen corridor where the buffet was set up and people lined up, we eventually emerged into the pub side and the hostess pointed to the pathetic table in the middle of a group surrounded by televisions playing sports. When asked if we can sit outside on the deck on plastic seats it took 10minutes for an answer. Once seated we gave it 10minutes to be served and no server came so we left. On exiting we heard all sorts of people complaining, 'I've been waiting for my food, for my bill etc' 1) Reservations means you should have a proper table in the dining room? 2) Touring the restaurant with a baby in car seat and a 5yr old for Mothers Day doesn't seem appropriate Don't go here read more

Recently we celebrated my husband's 70th birthday party at this wonderful venue. Louise and Kim listened to all our needs and concerns and absolutely everything was just what we wanted! The staff were exceptional in every way. The food was perfect in both taste and presentation. Our guests (94) were treated with cheerful consideration and never went unatttended. On Sunday April 5 my partner and I went to this place for a bite,sat beside a table of six. Sever zara went by us 4 times, never once acknowledge us. After 20 mins still nobody came so my partner decided to go to the bar to get us a drink. Arrived back at the table empty handed because he didn't want to enbarrass Zara and instead asked her to deliver us our drinks. After 5 mins we finally got our drinks and she took our food order. We ate then went to pay and I told my partner no tip which is very out of the ordinary for me because i am a server for a big company. He paid with a credit card and when he got to the tipping option the machine wouldn't allow us to not tip kept going back to 15% so we asked her how to skip the tip option. She responded by saying what your not going to tip me. I then told her no and I wasn't going to say anything but since you asked Ill tell you why. As soon as I begin to tell her you made us wait 20 minute and before I could say more she cut me off yelling if your not going to tip me don't come back and she repeated it 3 times. I said yes i am coming back and she said no your not your not coming back here if your not going to tip me. So I asked the bartender if I could speak to the manager and he said no there is no manager here.I asked for a card so I could call the manager myself. Went to my car called Louise Greene the manager immediately. She informed me that she was on site so I was lied to by the bartender. I told Louise what had happened and she was shocked and said it should not have happened she will talk to Zara and call me back and she never did and its been over 24 hours. I feel like we were descriminated because we were the only coloured people in the restaurant. Every other patron was cacausion. Never have felt so belittled especially this day in age where this behavior should be intolaberale but seemed to be OK by them. read more

Skip this place!!!! $83 (tax and gratuities): 15 minutes wait for water & a glass of stale wine. Confused servers! They came and gave us the same item 2 times. We had the burger and penne pasta No changing table for babies. No one came for us after and we ended up looking for someone to pay. Brunch last Sunday = scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes and 2 pieces of toast. The potatoes were loaded with oregano seasoning (fine if you like it....NOT fine if you don't) the flavour of which transferred over to the eggs (rendering both inedible). They (the restaurant) were out of the rye bread (toast) I ordered so substituted instead white bread toast (burned on one side). When I mentioned the "problems" to the server..she said she would tell the "chef" and did not offer to remove the charge from the bill. Won't be going back ever again. read more

OMG. Seriously over priced menu. Terrible, nonexistent service, many errors with our orders, slow kitchen (eg. An hour for nachos and they were made wrong). Drinks never replenished. Asked for water twice, they blamed it on the water supply-what???? The only thing they have going for them is the view, great if you don't care about quality food or good service. My husband and I usually love going to the River House Restaurant for special dinners, however, recently we were there for a celebration dinner and were not impressed. Our waitress was professional in every sense of the word but the food was awful. We ordered the calamari as an appetizer and it was soggy and rubbery - we sent it back. When dinner arrived both of our entrees were overlooked and not enjoyable. We were both very disappointed with the food - this can be a lovely restaurant but I don't think we will return unless the kitchen staff change. read more

The food was delicious, well priced, and huge portions. However the service was not that great. We had a big group in the private room and it took forever for the server to take our orders and get us coffee and such. That is too bad some people on here had not so good experiences at the Riverhouse because I had such a fabulous time. My husband and I met with another couple here a few weeks ago where we had such a pleasant experience. We were warmly welcomed by the hostess Natasha, sat on the beautiful patio, and served by a fabulous server Zoe who recommended some amazing food choices. My wife and I recently retried this restaurant on a Friday night. We ordered 2 appetizers, she had the a glass of the house wine and I had a pint of beer. The calamari was what you would expect in any bar/restaunant. It was a good sized portion and properly cooked but nothing special ($10). The Crab Avicado Dip ($14) was definately poor. Not fresh and not quite cooked long enough as the cheese was just barely melted. The service was poor. The staff were very pleasant and appeared to be quite happy enjoying each others company. The building and location is excellent and very attractive. They were only a quarter full on a Friday evening at about 7pm and it was noicy as the hockey game had finished but they left the sound up high with nothing really on. The bill was $42.76 and with a 15% tip ended at $49.17. I very expensive night for a very poor experience. I should have not left a tip. I would not recommend this restaurant or pub except it is in a really nice building with a really nice view. read more
