Lots of full timers. Low end campground run by the full timers. Don't worry about quiet hours. Lots of music after 10PM we called to discuss the issue, was a waste of time. Site was unlevel, our truck had issues in the loose gravel backing up the hill into the site. Also, a hissing noise coming from some industry thing behind the campsite made things unpleasent. Great stay! We spent a week and I will definitely be back. Shower house was clean, store had lots of what you could need and everything was relatively close. Mostly retirees during the week and the families rolled in on Friday. Only downside was a camper with very vocal dogs that he walked barking through the campground to get to the dog park. Can't blame the dogs...just a dumb owner. All of the hookups were good. WiFi was not great and cable was kind of sketchy but we were camping so it wasn't a big deal. Staff was super friendly. Wish the spots were a little further apart but for as busy as Tybee is and for the rate it was great. read more

It's become a tradition to spend a week here at the end of each summer. We get a primitive tent site and spend two nights on the island for just a fraction of what it would cost for a night in a B&B. Air conditioned bathrooms with showers and just two blocks from the beach? Sold. Absolutely, positively sold. Is it perfect? Nah. Is it cheap and good enough? Certainly. The campground can be a little loud when people are drunk past quiet hours. We had the case of the mysterious puker this time around... Every night at 2am, some guy would stumble out of his RV and have a violent puking fest for at least 10 minutes. Woke me out of a sound sleep! There have been some small changes as a result of the campground being owned by the city now. If you've been before and didn't think much, it might be worth making another stop. I personally love that you can now make reservations for a tent site! Don't have to imagine a 4.5 hour drive that ends in all the sites being taken. read more

We have so many great memories from staying at Rivers End Campground. We always get a primitive site and hang up our hammocks in the trees, get a fire going in the evening, and wake up at 6am ready to go to the beach. It's pretty excellent. As far as I know, it's the closest campground to the beach on Tybee Island, with easy access to the highway (for when you want to go into downtown Tybee or back into Savannah). Restrooms/showers stay reasonably clean. Staff were always friendly and courteous. If you're concerned about the reviews that complain about the people: by the fact that it's a campground, know that you're going to be in close proximity with other people, some of whom are more...interesting than others. You can always reserve the site that adjoins yours if you want to guarantee a little extra elbow room. And honestly, the close proximity to other campers just makes Rivers End that much safer, especially at night. I would appreciate a little more understanding when it comes to hammock campers. We've gotten lucky both times with trees in our campsites, but it would be nice to know "yes, there's a pair of trees you can use" "no trees at this site" in advance. All in all, Rivers End is highly recommended if you're looking for a way to enjoy Tybee Island on a budget. read more

First and foremost, ignore the bad reviews! This campground was amazing! When we arrived on Thursday evening (the weekend of St Patty's Day) the camp was about 1/3 occupied. It was amazing! The staff were helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. By Saturday morning the camp was 90% full. The staff was still as great as before! The grounds were clean and well kept. The bathroom and shower house were wonderful even with all of the folks there. There were no foul odors or trash about. The rates, even for there most busiest of times, were still well priced. We had a full hook up site and stayed three nights for $160. We had great neighbors and lots of folks from Canada and even some Dutch travelers. It was a great experience and will of course be back again, and again, and again! As for the internet, I was able to stream Netflix and cloud movies from iTunes with no problem. read more

DO NOT VISIT UNTIL CONSTRUCTION IS OVER!!! It's 7:30 am Sunday morning and the bobcat is going strong directly across from our cabin! Ridiculous and we complained. Yesterday they started at 9 but went strong all day. Anyone know the sound of saws cutting cement - yup 12 hours of that is more than enough!!! I will be asking for a refund. River's Edge of Campground is clean, neat and safe. Personnel are lovely and accommodating. My only complaint, and it's a minor one, is the bathrooms are teeny tiny. I'm 5' 10" and can't use the shower or the toilet without smashing into walls with my elbows. The bathrooms are, however, private rooms with a shower, sink and toilet, which is pretty nice. This was an okay experience. First the price is extremely high. We paid $45 a night for tent campsite. That rate was more inflated than other campgrounds that we looked at in a similar situation to Rivers End, but on different islands. The office staff was friendly and helpful when we called to book the reservation. The bathroom situation is horrendous. Based on how they were set up they needed at least one more bath house. Be warned-the morning is the worst tome to go to the bath house. If you get there at 9 you could be waiting 20+ minutes just to use the bathroom, and there is not other bathroom on the property. The sites are okay, but they are too close together. You basically feel like you are on top of your neighbor. We may come back when the peak season is over and give it another shot. read more

I have got to tell you what a wonderful thing they did for us. Tiffany from the campground contacted me about our trip and was wondering what time today we were coming in today. I said it wasn't today it was next Saturday. She was right and I was wrong. 5 classmates from the class of 1974 coming from Florida and scattered in North Carolina from Owen High School in Swannanoa NC were coming for a small reunion that we all though was a week later. Tiffany calmed me down from my panic attack and said let me talk to my manager. She called me back 10 minutes later and said her manager had found a way to accommodate us. We loved it at Rivers end Campground the last time we stayed there. Site's were not the normal sites which added to the enjoyment of our stay. Some were side by side while others were at angles. Nice set up. We could walk our Schnauzers through the park in and out of the roads seeing others and visiting with everyone who wished to chat. A laundry room and Camp Store was centered in the campground. Good shade for most every site. Close proximity to the Light house and the beach and our favorite place McElwees. The Rivers End will be a regular planned trip for us as the seasons change. read more

One of the nicest campgrounds we have stayed in. Staff is very friendly and we were escorted to our campsite... Number 140 which is extremely large and private. Bathhouse is right next-door and showers are individual with their own door. Very clean. Yes there are some campsites that are close together so just ask for 140 when you book! You will love it. The swimming pool is large and clean and they even have nine cabins right next to the swimming pool if that is your style of camping. Easy walking distance to Tybee Island Beach which is beautiful. we stayed here for a week in early November and we have not a single complaint. The weather was beautiful in the mid to upper 70s. Tent camping price seems a bit high at 44 bucks. Staff was friendly and pool was nice. Great location very close to beach... One big disappointment tent area B was horrible location there is a street light that shines directly on the tent. All the others didn't appear to have this problem. There were 4-5 open spots not sure why anyone would put you in spot B before filling up the other spots...they did ask if I wanted covered or uncovered price difference. The street light was such a downer. Most of the tent area is at the entrance so you hear every car that comes in. All the tent pads look newish has fire pit and tables. Just wish some thought went into the layout. read more

We visited River's End recently and found most of it to be quite lovely. However, if you go, avoid site #149. It slopes uphill toward the bath house, and the sewer is too far away for the average hose to reach. We spent our first morning there dealing with it. After several trips to the store and wasted money on purchases which did not work, a couple of helpful maintenance workers came to our aid. Beware of the large woman in the store, though. She definitely needs a course in customer service. We would like to sing the praises of Howie, a volunteer at the campground. He solved our plumbing problem quickly and effectively and checked on us from time to time to make sure everything was working properly. Knowing of our difficulties that first morning, he helped us secure a golf cart to drive to dinner our last night there. Such a wonderful man! read more

I had the misfortune to stay in this place in June. I was on my way back from visiting my folks in Florida for a few days, and thought it would be fun to stop off somewhere around Savannah, GA. My GPS brought up this place, along with a few others, so I headed over to Tybee Island to check it out. Granted, I didn't have a reservation, but I'm in a B-Van, so if I was turned away, that would be OK, I could just park on the street. I showed up around 6 pm. The office was closed (no surprise I guess), but I ran into a rather gruff care-taker who showed me how there after hours check-in works. They had a few open spots, but he seemed rather annoyed that I was bothering them I guess. Instead of allowing me to look and choose one of the sites, he just told me to follow him - he picked out a very small site next to the busy bathhouse. Of course, very unlevel, no grass to speak of. No way to level the van, so I slept on an incline. Constant stream of people walking to the bathroom thinking it's OK to walk right along side my van on their way to the bath. One tripped over my lawn chair at one time! The next morning I got the bill for my night's stay. Ouch! Too much money for such a poor facility. read more

We went here on a trip South thinking we would stay a few nights. We took a tour before committing to our stay and immediately decided to stay only one night. This was the worst RV Park we had seen since leaving Western New York State. The whole area was stone covered, we were so close to our neighbor we could almost reach out and touch them, people were walking through our site, we walked to the beach and had to pass a sewage treatment plant where the smell was terrible, busy roads on two sides with construction vehicles going by most of the time, any sites that might have had grass were right at the road side. Rivers End RV Park. - VERY BAD!!! Don't believe the positive reviews for a minute - they are false and probably done by the very rude local staff. VERY BAD!!! ( I would use different words but the censor would not allow it! ). The camp sites were small with fire rings placed in such a way that you could not fit around the fire without sitting in the roads or your neighbors site. When we checked in we were given a site right on the main road. We were told to park within 18 inches of the road to fit our rig! The road is a busy road with cars driving past at 30 or more. The Police station is at one end and they routinely came by at high speed (45?) with their lights and sirens on. We have a 7 year old child and a dog and this spot was simply not safe for either. WHen we asked to change - even to pay more for a "premium site" (for 10 nights!). We were told no! they were booked full and had a waiting list for reservations. AS to the Customer service, We originally booked for 10 nights and then due to circumstances, we were forced to change our plans. When we tried to change the reservation with 4 days notice (more than the 72 hr cancelation window) with the front desk they refused to offer any refunds even though we would not be staying at the park. We had read the cancelation policy and were following it but it is vaguely worded at best. I can understand a change fee or a loss of deposit but they charged us 10 nights anyway. VERY BAD!!! Not only did they refuse but they laughed at the fact that we would loose our money. THey were rude when we checked in, they were only open bankers hrs while we were at camp and the " dog walk" was full of uncleaned dog leftovers and trash, and was tiny. Not suitable for a chihuahua let alone our border collie. Just a side note on Tybee island. IT is NOT DOG FRIENDLY!!! There is next to no-where you can take your dog. NO Beaches, NO outdoor restraunts, NO marinas, NO walks by the lagoons or swamps. IF I could give less stars than one I would. PS. We have done 30000 miles in our RV over the past 5 years ( we are seasoned RV travelers ) and this is the worst customer service I have ever experienced at any RV Park hands down. read more

ugh. this place is awful. so awful in fact that at around midnight we packed up our tent and supplies and left for florida. the river's edge is the only campground on tybee so if you want to camp you are at their mercy. i read mixed reviews on trip advisor and yahoo travel but we were only going to be on tybee for one night and like i said - they're the only campground. we were stuck. first of all it is expensive - $29 for a tent site with no hook ups. and secondly, there are WAY too many sites in way too small of a space. i am not a fan of RVs and personally i think they are ruining a lot of america's campground but this was an RV park so i knew there would be a lot and i was ok with it. turns out we were the only tent campers in the whole place. and i felt bad for some RV'ers too - since the sites are on top of each other they are way too close to one another. they gave us a site right behind the dumpster. thanks. they assign sites so we couldn't pick out own. and it smelled bad. at first i thought it was the dumpster but once we walked to the beach we realized that the campground is just downwind from the water & sewage treatment plant and the recycle center - hence the odor. there was no fire ring so if we hadn't brought along our camp stove we wouldn't have been pretty screwed for dinner. and the site was so tiny there was barely room for us, our tent and the rickety picnic table they had. and the stray cats wandering around didn't add anything either. this was a major disappointment. i would never, ever go back here. read more

This is not a campground ... It is a gravel RV parking lot with sites barely larger than a parking space. It is adjacent to the Tybee dump and sewer treatment facility where operations begin at 7:30 am complete with large truck backup beepers. After operations close, a compressor loudly reloads throughout the night - think whale blowing and it helps to tolerate. We were in a soft sided popup camper and on two different occasions camp staff backed an RV into the adjacent space with the vehicle's exhaust pipe 4 feet from our tent. One of the vehicles ran his engine for an extended period while we were trying to sleep filling our space with exhaust fumes. Despite gravel parking lot, when it rains standing water accumulates including a drainage ditch that runs through the "campground" ... I'm sure they see it as a "waterfront" site. We were also treated to nightly cat fights and red ant bites. One positive about Rivers End is the short walk to the beach and a short bike ride to town. If we ever come to Tybee again we will not stay here. The high site fee of $69 a night is nearly halfway to a room at the truly beachfront DeSoto Hotel. read more

If you're an RV owner, I can see this being a great place for you. The staff was very nice and helpful, and the grounds were well kept and clean. Bathrooms and showers were great too. As a tent camper, I have to say it left a lot to be desired. We were given a camping spot 4 feet away from the access road the whole neighborhood uses, and right across from the dog run. There wasn't any drinking water available for campers, so I had to find an empty RV site to get drinking water from. This wouldn't have been so bad, but the fact that I paid more for this campsite than any other campsite I've been to this summer (which have been many, and all over the country) made me feel a little ripped off. The beach is nice, and it's a lot cheaper to "camp" at River's End than rent a condo or something. But I left feeling disappointed in what I was given for my money. read more

Drove up from Florida with my family for a long weekend and stayed here in one of their beautiful cabins! We have a family of 7 and were still able to fit with our little dog. Played cornhole and watched college football on the big screen. The staff made everything easy for us and was attentive to our needs while there. I appreciated having a large selection of products in the on-property store. This is not our first stay here but in all Likelihood our last. The office staff were short, unfriendly and borderline rude. There was a newer employee there and the lady showing her how to look something up was not very nice to the newer employee. The guy who took us to our spot, despite telling them we knew where it was, was very friendly. The campground has Has some upgrades WiFi was sporadic. My girlfriend and I stayed here and really liked it. There is an area where you can hang out inside, where we played dominoes and watched TV while it was raining. The Campground staff are friendly and the campground is well taken care of. My one complaint is that although they do not allow dogs in the tent camping area every RVer with a dog walks their dog in the tent camping area. It's made no sense especially since there are two dog walking areas directly adjacent to the campground. However, this was not enough to take a star away it was just a little annoying because dogs were peeing on everything around us. Anyway, next time I travel this way with my camper I will definitely stay here. Nice facilities. read more

Here's the key to staying at Rivers End... know what to expect. Are you going to have a large, private RV site? No. Are you going to have a site that's an easy walk to the beach in a cool part of Tybee Island? Yes. I knew going there that our site would be similar in size to the ones at Ocean Lakes or Myrtle Beach Travel Park. I'm OK with that if I know it going in. My mom, son, and I stayed for 9 days and had a ball. You can walk to a couple of restaurants and take a cheap taxi golf cart to others. The pool area is nice and clean, as are the rest rooms. We enjoyed having a fire, even in July, and the ice and wood delivery are a nice touch. The camp store is well stocked and has some pretty cool items I haven't seen in other campground stores. It doesn't replace my favorite gulf campground, but we really enjoyed our stay and will be back. As far as the primitive sites go, we saw them and wouldn't stay there, but if you're in an RV and OK with seeing your neighbors, you'll be fine. read more

We have been coming here since 1995 and even though the city now owns it and has tried to improve it, it's still the only show in town. Camp sites are too close to each other, bath houses are too few for the amount of people camping in the park. That said, the location allows you the ability to walk to the mouth of the Savannah River, the light house and other attractions. You take the bad with the good and you have Rivers End Campground. Over priced. Had over $300 worth of camping supplies stolen. Reported to management the issues and the response was we needed to file a police report but all that would do was to help with an insurance claim. It seemed as if management didn't want us to report to police as it would be a public record of issues with the campground. No offer of any assistance. They need cameras because we spoke to other long term campers on site and they reported other items have been stolen routinely as well. Disappointed... have been camping for over two decades and never had anything stolen... until I visited Tybee... I guess that's why the locals say "Tybee Trash"... look elsewhere! read more

This is an update because River's End has updated! We just stayed in one of their super cute cabins and had a lovely weekend. It was a completely different experience than our visit in 2014. I checked out the primitive camping area and it's been completely updated so that each plot has a raised bed for pitching a tent, plus charcoal grills and picnic tables. It looks really lovely. The jail that was under construction when we were there has now been completed. There is currently a well drilling project directly behind the cabins, so expect noise during the days on weekdays. They get started around 8am. Our cabin was directly in front of the project (which looks like that tower that held the Eye of Sauron) and the noise was not bad at all. You will need to provide everything for your cabin, just as if you were camping. So, bring all bed and bath linens (don't forget a bath mat), all dishes and eating utensils, all cooking equipment (they provide a grill and microwave), all paper products, etc. My only suggestion to the owners would be that they provide bath mats because the area of the flour and wood molding in front of the shower is definitely beginning to rot a bit and eventually it will need replacing if it continues getting wet. read more

There is a reason this place has not made it to 4 star status. It's very high turn over, which is fine as most places like this have folks who can only get a night or two at a time. The grounds crew are super helpful and friendly. The office staff not so much. Maybe in the days before COVID they were happier and friendly but not in March 2021. During check in the guy who checked me in wanted me to leave the office as quick as possible. Never confirming any of my information. He has his mask on and I could barely hear him behind the the omnipresent plexiglass shield. I didn't have a mask on so I'm sure he thought he was going to get whatever diseases I'm carrying. Too bad he didn't get my good attitude and patience. Each office visit was unpleasant with no customer service. At the end of the day there was an issue on their end with our reservation where we were not booked an additional day as we had been told when making the call and booking over the phone. No email with confirmation or it would have easily been caught. We were called and asked to leave while exploring Savannah and were told there was no vacancy for the night. We came back as fast as we could and left with no place to stay for the night. They charged us knowing that there was a mix up and the next campers were not there yet. We called to discuss and they blamed us. Such poor business skills. The reason this place continues to work is because they have the only campground on the Island. Tybee is an awesome place and this campground is nice too, but the owners and office staff need some serious business and customer training. We are full time traveling and there are better places out there for the location and money. read more

We like the cabins at Rivers End. They are big and air conditioned, with a kitchen sink, bathroom with shower and a screened in porch. Also a grill and a fire ring. Wifi is slow. It's more than a cabin so we call it the Wooden Hotel Room. The camp ground has a very clean and comfortable pool, showers and laundry. Rivers End has tent spots that we would never use. The sites are tiny and on hard gravel. This is mostly an RV park and those are parked right next to each other. The cabins are great but the rest is a parking lot, not a campground. Walk to a secluded part of the beach or drive to the party part of the beach near the pier. read more

We came for a last minute weekend trip in November and were able to book a tent camp spot with no problem. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The camp grounds and bathroom were clean. We brought bicycles and were able leave from the camp site and easily bike the whole main strip of the island. Campgrounds were quiet at night and close to facilities. Do not expect secluded campsites as you are close to your neighbors but we used that as an opportunity to make new friends. Overall we would come back again and bring friends. read more

For the past five years, my family and I have been camping at Rivers End Campground, ... I was looking forward to our annual camping trip this year until I was blindsided by the Manager.... sadly , we will NOT be camping there this year!! . I called to make a reservation for August and the young lady I initially spoke with was kind and courteous. She put me on a brief hold and the next thing I knew I was being attacked by the manager over an issue that occurred during our last years trip. (we had more than 2 cars parked at our site when we had a visitor come over for dinner) The woman was rude and condescending during the call and informed me that if this happens again, we would be asked to leave Immediately... I didn't have an issue with WHAT she was telling me, but her delivery was terrible. I commented on her rude behavior and she promptly asked if I wanted to cancel the trip. We decided to take our business elsewhere this year due to her flippant attitude.... she obviously didn't care less I wasn't booking but I wonder how the owner feels losing business? I felt the manager was looking for conflict and I just so happened to be the person next in line. She could certainly take some lessons in customer service... read more
