How gross. we stopped by today because a friend wanted a late and we thought we'd give them another shot. Today is 9/7/2020. The employee we very nice, but wasn't very helpful at suggesting drink. I'm not sure who trains them on drinks, sauce/flavor for cups and temperature but everything about what we got today was wrong. The drink was SO hot it took about 40 minutes for it to cool down and actually try it, when we did it was just flavor syrup in a cup with hot milk. Another thing is there is A LOT of expired product in this store. I'm not sure who check inventory or goes over what's switched out but if it's this old it makes me wonder how old other things we can't use are. I'll never visit here again. And if I could give 0 stars I totally would. read more

Apparently, I'm at outlier compared to other recent reviews. My coffee was excellent. The person at the counter was friendly, courteous, and quick. I will say the COVID compliance signage was a tad confusing but nonetheless recommend this coffee shop based upon my experience here. read more

Came here and ordered a salted caramel latte and I honestly don't know what I got. Very watered down unflavored coffee. It tasted absolutely terrible. The customer service for an ice cream shop you would think smiley and friendly it was far from. I don't recommend at all and I'm sad I spent $5.00 on a coffee that was so disgusting. read more

I stopped in today with a friend who suggested the location. We were excited to try the baked goods we saw and didn't hesitate to buy. I think I should've hesitated a bit more however. The Basbousa semolina cake I bought was molded. I should've looked closer in the store however I didn't think they would sell something molded over, especially as a mom and pop looking shop. read more

When I was a lot younger, and lived in Woodbridge, my parents and I would go to Occoquan every few weeks. From what I remember, while we were there, we would get ice cream at a little shop that seemed a bit secluded from other main road, and had tables with attached seats and umbrellas to the side of the shop. It is definitely one of my favorite childhood memories. Fastforward to 2015: I now live in Fairfax, and it is very seldom that I go to Occoquan. When I did manage to make a trip out there, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the shop was still up and running, serving ice cream, with the tables still to the side of the shop. When I walked in, my childhood memories seemed to rush back into my head. I was, without a doubt, excited to have some ice cream! The cashier was very helpful, and all of the ice cream looked delectable. I ended up getting a scoop of Party Cake (which I guess is their name for Birthday Cake) and a scoop of Cookies n Cream (my two favorite flavors) on an M&M cone. It was quite possibly the best ice cream I've ever had. I'm not quite sure if the shop is still run by the same owner, or if it even goes by the same name it was over 10 years ago, but I am so glad this place still exists after all these years. Occoquan has seemed to have had major renovations done to it over the years, but having this shop still serving ice cream is a real treat in itself. read more

I went to the Riverside Coffee Shop to meet up with a few friends. We walked inside and the place was absolutely infested with fruit flies. Now, I'm industry people and I understand how fruit flies can get out of hand quickly but I also can tell when an issue was neglected. There were fruit flies inside the ice cream freezer. I think the person working the shoppe thought burning sage was going to cleanse the place of fruit flies but I can promise you sir, it wasn't working. I hate to speak ill of this establishment because it was really cute and had a lot of potential. But they fo have a serious problem on their hands. read more

I am all about supporting local businesses. I am reviewing this place solely on the coffee. My bf and I both ordered iced coffees, and were pleasantly surprised. You would think a place that has coffee in their name would have some sort of expertise in the brewing business. Nope. The coffee reminded me of my childhood. It tasted exactly like the instant Folgers coffee my parents used to make as a kid. I would sneak a sip here and there when I could. I asked for a little cream, and boy did that bring back memories as well. Powdered creamer has a very distinct taste. As soon as she brought my drink to the counter, it appeared to be a different drink because of how light the coffee was. I had the caramel cheesecake Cookie Monster and strawberry cheesecake. My hubs got moose tracks and butter pecan. Straight up awful. We got a chai spice tea and a macchiato. We both threw ours away after the second sip. Chai spice tastes like water with a ... ginger? And maybe a dash of cinnamon. I don't even know. Macchiato tastes more like milk with a dash of drip coffee. Barely any coffee flavor. Temperature was Luke warm. I don't know how they're still in business. read more

The entire shop is disgusting. The floor has not been swept or mopped in what seems like several weeks. The girl behind the counter was hard to understand and obviously did not know how to do her job. I ordered a boba in taro flavor, it was very watered down and it tasted like nothing. The actual boba in it tasted like eraser. We got fudge and I could tell that it was couple weeks old, as it was hard and unpleasant to chew. I talked to the owner of the shop before. He is a very loud and unpleasant man. He brags about his shop when in reality it is filthy and the food and drinks they sell are less than mediocre. I went here with my wife, I got a latte and my wife got what was labeled as a chai tea latte. Neither of our drinks were good. My latte was bland and not a well made latte. The chai tea latte was just a tea bag in water. We felt this place should not have been labeled as a coffee shop. This was an ice cream and candy store with some homemade baked goods. Went there with my BF. He ordered a boba tea. When the employee went to make it we heared something similar to a espresso machine, and when the tea came out it was little more than colored water. More on the the boba was stale, hard, and crusty. We couldn't bite down on then AT ALL. Now it is a cute little store, but the quality is poor. Coworker aslo told us they do not have a manager, and could not offer compensation for the issue. read more

i went into the town of occoquan and was greeted by thnis small coffee and icecream shop, with hmomeade fudge i was thrilled. The old fashioned look with a wonderfull floral area. I had a latte and then some of there homeade fudge, i took home some candies. There is so much to offer there and the gentlemen that was working was nothing but helpfull in everyway. I was looking for a new coffee spot because i got burned at the other one in town and found so much more, it was like a sweet treat all in one and i will be back as a regular... if your in occoquan try this place out it doesnt seem like much from the outside but wow they have everything and it is so yummy. read more

I was here on Saturday. After a nice picnic at River Mill Park, we stopped in. I saw they advertised bubble tea so asked for one. The lady said they were out of tapioca. Okay. Saw they had blended drinks so asked for a Black Forest blended latte. She said the blender was broken. Okay. Asked for it iced. She disappeared for about 5 minutes before returning to say she couldn't find the syrup. It took the girl over 5 minutes to ring my ice cream up, asked for my card back several times so she could type the whole card number and exp. date into her iPad. The shop smelled awful, like a toilet. The ice cream selection wasn't anything special. On top of that, I bought a piece of baklava to go and she grabbed a bag from under the counter from Dollar General and hastily removed a receipt and some papers before handing it to me. We got coffee here and it was mediocre at best. The mint cappuccino basically just had a squirt of red peppermint syrup. Not really at all what I expected. Hubby's cup had an ant on the lid. This coffee shop is really cute and quaint. I've been here a few times and have never been disappointed. I usually get a hazelnut latte and it's honestly prob one of the best I've ever had. The owner is really sweet and always offers a home made fresh baked cookie which is also really good. Down in Occoguan to visit the tattoo shop next door. Decided to drop in for a coffee. FIrst, when I asked for a small coffee, the lady inquired a couple of times if I wanted an espresso, cappucino, etc. It took a couple of back n forths like that for her to get the message I wanted a simple coffee. Next, she brewed up a fresh pot (no problem there) but the coffee was virtually without flavor. After her inquiring if it was okay or not, I politely informed her that the coffee was not very good or was brewed too weak. She seemed to take offense and responded that they used "the best coffee". Really??? I've waited tables at many restaurants and worked in economic development with small businesses, and I know that few businesses procure the top of the line stuff. She would be well advised to listen to candid critiques from customers, it's how a small business survives and grows. read more

I am disappointed to say that, yes, I have experienced better. My husband and I were in the area and love to hunt out the independent coffee shops. We consulted Yelp and headed to the Riverside. First thing, it is not on the river, so sipping our lattes looking over the water was only going to happen in our imagination.....The coffee was only Ok. The shop itself is a little without atmosphere with the seating area separate from the retail side. I was hoping for a tempting selection of cakes and pastries, and comfy chairs....not so. Despite the Riverside not living up to my expectations, the baklava was delicious, and the lady who served (I think the owner) were both lovely. Terrible service and ice cream. We went to get a scoop of ice cream on a cone...basic request. The girl working was no stranger to ice cream. She placed a huge heap of ice cream on top of the cone. When I went to take my first bite of ice cream, directly in front of her, the entire ice cream scoop fell off of the cone. She had not pressed any ice cream into the actual cone to keep it from falling off. Then, she just stared at me blankly as I asked for another....which I was CHARGED for. I overpaid twice for ice cream that was clearly freezer burned. Don't waste the money or calories and go somewhere else. read more

I usually save reviewing for my blog but I thought I'd address this cute little coffee/ice-cream shop since I've had 3 different encounters in the past two weeks. Encounter número uno, was nothing short of fab. I walked in, expected a mediocre latte but was offered the baristas favorite and bless her little pregnant hands because it was awesome. Second one, not so good (which is unfortunate because I brought my whole family on this occasion) let me explain... The kids ordered ice-cream and were served my parents on the other hand were rushed to decide. The lady repeatedly said, "who's next?" I'm not sure If she realized she was being rude or if she just had limited English. My inquisitive father started to ask about several things and the owner came out and said hello which I found pleasant until he told us soon they'd make the other half into a convenient store selling wine and beer. Confusing right? Maybe some history should be done this place has been an ice-cream shop for years and survived well. I ordered a mocha with soy and still folks I can't tell you what I received. Something no where close to a mocha with 2% milk not only could I taste it but I watched her pour it. So why did I give them three stars you ask? Well, I went to pick up my dress I was having altered and peeked in the window and saw the young lady I met on the first encounter. I figured I'd give it another try, walked in, was recognized immediately, and this time she made another drink equally as tasty and built to espresso perfection. If I could rate just one barista I'd definitely give the sweet pregnant lady 5 stars but unfortunately I'm only allowed to rate the business as a whole. I believe I was served by a middle aged man who claimed he was from Canada named Martin Brossman? He made me an iced tea and gave me a sample of fudge. When he discovered my faith he became enraged and launched into an entire debate while yelling at me, interrogating me, saying antisemitic slurs and misnomers against Israel, Judaism in general and attacked me personally with namecalling and constantly interrupting me when I talked. He also insulted Christianity and all other religions in general and dismissed, excused and justified the human rights atrocities in the Middle East and blamed all of it's problems on Jews/Zionism. Martin? should not be engaging in these types of conversations with strangers/clients. He is entitled to his offensive opinions but they are not based in facts and he does not know what it is like to be a persecuted minority. He continued his rampage while new customers entered the shop. So unprofessional! I was so horrified and didn't want to make a scene in front of others that I literally ran out of the shop!!! My husband even lost his appetite and skipped ordering his ice cream and feared for our physical safety. Rather than be violated by his hateful agenda, we will go to Sugar Mama's Ice Cream shop across the street on the main street in the future...I dont know if he is the owner but someone should take diciplinary or retraining measures. Terrorists, antisemites and neo-nazis would feel very comfortable at Riverside Coffee Shop in Occoquan, Va. came by to visit the town with my fiance stopped by to get some ice cream never tried turkey hill ice cream but when i tried it it was some of the creamiest delicious ice cream i've ever tried when i looked at the there menu i noticed they also sold coffee so i order a chocolate , caramel latte it was a lot better than starbucks the lady was also nice enough to throw in some fudge with my coffee over all my experience here was great! read more

Love this cute little shop! Now when i eat ice cream it can't be just any cream, it has to be turkey hill! It's very creamy & there are plenty of flavors to choose from! My personal favorite is black rasberry & columbian coffee! :) The coffee is delicious & you have to try the baklava! The owner is very sweet and she makes sure the customer is satisfied at the end by asking if their drink is the way they like it. The sitting area is peaceful so make sure to stop by and enjoy some coffee! read more
