The Riverside Lodge is one of the cheaper places to stay for solo travelers. It's about $80 per bed. It's a hostel, if you didn't know. I stayed in a four-bed girls room. Even though the host said the place was all booked, I had the room to myself. The beds were okay, but the comforters were really thin. The place is a little outdated, but still cozy. The bottom floor has a spacious living room with tv and there are two kitchens with plenty of space to cook. The shared bathrooms were decent. I never had to wait to use the bathroom. The check-in process consisted of having to call/text a number on the white board when you walk in and that person will tell you how to get your key to your room. There is a parking lot, but parking spots are limited especially if it snows and they don't plow the spaces. The person I texted didn't have another parking option when the spaces were filled. The Rec center across the street has signs that say no parking after 10pm. You can risk that, if desperate. read more

Beware. Infested with bed bugs. There is so much to say that I don't know where to start. I lived there for several months and I still have nightmares about it. I had to throw away all my belongings in fear that I would take the bedbugs with me. This place needs to be torn down, the govt. is aware of the poor conditions, a few other residents also called to report them but apparently nothing could be done. read more

Arrived late around 8:30 after booking it on priceline. Had a little trouble figuring out how to check in. Found out you have to call the number on the door (duh lol). It goes directly to the guy who is running the place. He was very friendly! Showed us two rooms and let us choose whichever one we wanted. Rooms were very clean, bedding was fresh. You share a bathroom and a kitchen, but that didn't bother me too much. The kitchen is stocked with food and you're allowed to help yourself to whatever you want free of charge. Though I didn't because we were only staying there to sleep and shower between hikes, I definitely would've taken advantage of that haha. The only thing that bothered me was the state of the bathroom a few times. The trash wasn't taken out at all the time we were there and the toilet stalls could've used a quick cleaning. No big deal to me but I know someone more uptight would care. All-in-all, the renovating and updating he did look great and I would totally stay here again. read more

Yikes -- weird experience at Riverside Lodge. Although Manager Charlie was accommodating and friendly with our early check-in, our room and shared bathrooms were quite nasty/hairy/smelly. Both my partner and I got some gnarly bedbug bites/rashes that appeared a few days later. Charlie later informed us over the phone that the second floor of the hostel had a bedbug infestation, and he agreed to mail us our money back and to handle the bedbug situation. Seemed like a good dude, but we didn't experience a very pleasant stay -- coulda camped and dodged some bedbugs. UPDATE 8/17: Stayed here a year ago and still haven't gotten money back. Seems from another review that the place was still bedbug infested a few months ago. Keep your wits about you, people - stay somewhere else. read more

ONLY STAY HERE AS THE LAST POSSIBLE OPTION!!! This is by FAR the WORST place I've ever stayed at and was more expensive!! I've stayed in $20/night hostels here in NYC that were much nicer. Even hourly rate motels will seem like luxury compared to this place. Imagine the worst, dirtiest college dorm....THAT'S what the Riverside is like. The pictures on their site and Airbnb are NOT what you actually get. Those are from someplace else. First off, the phone number doesn't work and the guy "Brad" just texts back. There's no check in and the guy who's apparently in-charge isn't friendly, doesn't introduce himself and seems like he's just a local homeless guy that they let stay there in exchange for helping out. The room was disgusting!! Mostly because of the kids that were staying there for weeks but the fact that they allow that is ridiculous. The sheets & pillows were dirty, mismatched and just gross. They didn't even have a key for the room!? OH...no toilet paper in the bathroom!? The dining room table is also where they keep the mismatched, dirty bedding. The smoke detector was covered!? The common area was only slightly better. If it was possible, I'd give this a zero star rating. read more

This place is a dump! I didn't expect much when I booked here for a week of skiing. All I needed was a clean safe place to shower, eat and sleep. I've stayed at many $50 motels and this was easily my worst experience. Too many issues to list here, but here's a few: * Disgusting kitchen and bathrooms. They hadn't been cleaned in weeks. * Exposed electrical, taped up smoke detectors and broken baseboard heaters. * Dangerous unfinished repairs left all over the building. * Overflowing trash and laundry bins were not emptied the entire week. * No hot water the last 2 days, so no shower after 3 days of skiing before my flight home. I asked the manager, Rachel, about a refund. She said she would ask the owner, but there was "no way" we would refund the money and offered a credit. I declined because there's no way I would stay there again. The owner, Brad, called and we agreed on a 2 day refund, but he ended up jerking me around for over a month. He just kept blaming his payment system so I eventually gave up. read more

Lack of cleanliness and plague issues. First there is plague of bedbugs. Some people already said it and the owner is denying it but it's true. I have pictures of more than 10 people showing the bites of the bedbugs. And they're fumigating so they know. Some people had to move to the living room for a couple of days because they were throwing poison or because they didn't stand anymore the bedbugs. And they are having this problem since at least 2015 because a guy already said it on the website yelp. Second, when I arrived there the sink of one of the kitchens was completely blocked for more than a week. Not only blocked but with dirty water and old food coming out from it to the kitchen floor, that was extremely disgusting. So, one of the two kitchens was unusable and you can imagine the problem when is more than 30 people living there. There were some people that didn't clean any dishes so most of the time the kitchens were completely dirty and it was very difficult to cook. This isn't a directly a problem of the administration but they have cameras and there is also a manager living there so he was able to see which ones were the dirty ones. If you rent a place you must control the people that is living there. You know what they did? The first "punishment" was shutting down the gas from the oven, the microwaves, the wifi and the cable for more than one day. They were prejudicing everybody because SOME people didn't clean their stuff. Since that didn't work one day the manager decided to throw away almost all the plates, pans, forks, knifes, cups, etc. And when I asked him where were they, he told me that since some people didn't clean their dishes and he was tired of spending more than one hour per day hiring people to clean it he decided to throw them all away and now everybody must buy their own stuffs. It was ridiculous, that's when I lost my patience and I decided to leave and report the place to Airbnb. They don't have a permanent cleaning service, yet you are charged for that when you booked. You know what they do? When the manager decides that the place is dirty enough he hires for $10 per hour some of the Peruvian guys that are living there and came here to work. If you go now the place is cleaner but this is because there is nothing to get dirty. I mean yeah good for you, your solution worked out but I am not paying $800 per month for a place where I need to buy my stuff. 2. The extremely aggressiveness and rudeness of the personal (and unnecessary). Besides the bright ideas of the manager he had others methods to try to control the people. One was to threaten the tenants about not giving them their deposits back. And this actually could be a good idea or maybe they can take away some privileges to some tenants but the problem was how he was doing that. A couple of examples. He was blaming a couple of guys about the bedbugs because he said that one of them brought food to the room and it was his fault for the plague. This was when they were about to leave the place. First yes, you're right I think we shouldn't bring food to the rooms but the plague started way before this guy did that, and we all knew that. I don't know honestly how much food did he brought to the room but I seriously doubt that it could start the plague. They had a very bad argument about that, they had to call the owner who didn't want to give the deposit back either and I heard that they were telling him that they were going to sue him about that. Another time I was in one of the living rooms one night and there were a couple of Peruvian guys cooking. Then the manager showed up and started threatening them to clean all the dishes that were in the kitchen or he wasn't going to give their deposits back. And this guys were telling him that it wasn't their dishes that were from another group of Peruvian guys that were there before them (which was true, I was there). But the manager said he didn't care and that they have to clean it anyway because the morning of the next days the owners were coming to see the place. It was more than ridiculous if it's true and you don't want the owners to see the place like that hire a cleaning service for Christ sake. Which I believe it isn't true either because the owner doesn't care at all. But who am I to say it? On the other hand, I'm not the only one telling this. read more

I fly a lot, I've been forced to stay in some incredibly seedy places after cancellations. None of which come close to the absolute hellhole that is the new riverside lodge. Your room consists of a bed and a lamp, nothing more. Somehow it costs $100 a night. Enjoy using a shared bathroom? This place is for you. On the bright side they do have a descent common area with a full kitchen and what not. If you enjoy sharing a descent common area with meth heads this place is for you. The only positive thing I can say about this "lodge" is the location. If all you need is a nice town and beautiful creek out back, this place is for you read more

This place was disgusting. I would expect the minimum for a hostel, but for $83 a night, I did expect the place to be a lot cleaner than it was and quieter at midnight. Check in was a bit strange, as it was apparent the attendant doesn't stay there. She had to meet me at the hostel. She gave me the code to the door and told me to just hang out in the living room until she got there. So I get there, punch in the code, walk in and asked someone where the living room was and they pointed without really saying anything. No one seemed to be friendly. After about 20 minutes, the attendant walks in and shows me upstairs. She asked me if a top bunk would be ok and I said I'd prefer a bottom one if she has one because my arthritis makes it hard to climb in and out of a top one. She closed the door to the room with the top bunk and led me down the hallway to another room that had a bottom bunk. When she opened the door, I saw a huge mess in the room. Trash, clothes, food wrappers, etc all over the floor and it stunk. I was like, "On second thought, I'll take the top bunk. At least that room was cleaner." So she led me back to the previous room with the top bunk. This room was TINY yet it had 4 beds (2 bunks) in it. I figured well I'll just be here for sleeping so I can deal with that. However: The womens bathroom was disgusting. There was blood on the toilet seat, in the toilet and there was also bloody toilet paper on the floor and the trash can was overflowing with wet/bloody toilet paper and bloody unwrapped tampons. The other toilets were just as disgusting. There was a handwritten sign on the wall in the bathroom that said something about "If you are drinking and have to vomit, please vomit in the toilet and not on the floor." Really? Is this the kind of clientele that regularly stays here? The door to the bunkroom I was in was broken - you had to lift up on it in order to close it. The windows in the bunkroom were halfway covered with plastic. After I settled into my bed for the night, I couldn't sleep as there were people yelling, stomping and banging on walls into midnight - which is around the time I had enough and had to leave. The last straw for me was the feeling of something biting me while in bed. I kept feeling biting on my legs. After reading other reviews of this place (which I should have read before ever booking here), I found that other guests reported bed bugs. I mentioned all of these things to the attendant on duty and all concerns were shrugged off. They blatantly denied having bed bugs, stating they went from wooden to metal frames on the bunk beds. What about the MATTRESSES? This is where bed bugs hide, hence the name BED bugs! There was no way I was getting any sleep here, so I found the attendant and told her I was leaving and again mentioned the issues. I also said I'll be asking for a refund, at the very least for the cleaning fee amount back. Never got any of my money back and also received a bad review from the owner on AirBnb. Then he turned around and told me in a private message that he'd give me a discount for my next stay. This guy is making some serious money from this place, charging $83 and up per night per bunk bed! There has to be about 20 rooms and there are at least 4 beds in each room. Do not stay here unless you are a partier that isn't concerned for your own health and safety and dont need to sleep! read more

The advertisement and pictures for this place look NOTHING like the actual lodge. Unfortunately, the photos are very deceiving. This is NOT a hotel, but definitely a hostile and should be advertised as such. Although the site promises front desk services, there was no manager there to check us in. Other guests showed us around the place and then told us to call the managers, as they may or may not return that night. We were there 2 nights and the managers showed up for a very brief time in early evening on the second day. The site stated there were no pets allowed; however, there were 2 (very friendly) dogs that roamed around the place. The first morning one of them had peed on the floor right in front of the front door. No one ever did bother to clean that up. The shared bathrooms left a lot to be desired. The women's bathroom was dirty and one of the guests (the only other woman there) was scrubbing the showers out at 10:00 at night because she didn't think either of us should have to shower in such a disgusting shower. One of the 2 toilets was locked and out of order. There was no toilet paper (had to go buy our own) and no hand towels. There was no soap and no towel in the men's bathroom and the seat on the stool was broken. The bedroom was fine, very no frills. A comfortable bed - with no closet, a set of bunk beds and very little room to move around. The window didn't have a screen, the heating element along the floor was in disrepair, with no cover. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have passed a safety inspection. The grounds outside were cluttered and trash was stacked up outside next to the front entrance. The guests who were staying there were very nice to us and were pleasant to talk to. This is clearly a communal type of environment and not worth the $90 a night rate that we paid. read more

About two months ago I came out here on vacation with my family, when it was time to leave the mountains, I wasn't ready (as I'm sure many of you have experienced). So I packed a backpack, and started my adventure. I had planned on staying an extra couple of days to finish the last couple mountains I wanted to climb. But it turned into one of the greatest adventures of my life. I was referred here, by a man at The Bivvie (An extremely reputable place in Breckenridge)and those couple days I originally planned, turned into a month full of memories with some great people here. I'm a bartender/bar manager, so the first thing I notice when I walk into any place is the hospitality and customer service. And the hospitality they showed here was world class. After reading reviews from a few years ago, it made me realize and appreciate the changes their current managers/owner have made because it is completely different than it used to be. Which is why I wrote this review, because I want them to be recognized for that, and I want people traveling through to know that this is one of the great hidden gems of Summit County. Billy and Christina are top notch and have turned this place into something special. They are incredible hosts and the community they have created here is like a family. They are also currently renovating the entire property to make it more aesthetically-pleasing. During my stay, they were ALWAYS working on improving something. This place will be my very first stop when I enter Summit County again, and I can't wait to stop back and pick back up where we left off. read more

Place is very centrally located in Silverthorne. The staff on hand was excellent and provided enough food for a party twice our size! Place is definately set up to allow for large groups and has very comfortable living rooms to accomodate. read more
