Having concluded an excursion amongst the vineyards of Dahlonega, where the fruits of the vine had occupied our attention for the better part of the weekend, we commenced our homeward journey. It was then that my lady, whose eye is ever quick to perceive an establishment of promise, espied Riverside Tavern. I turned our carriage about or rather, our modern conveyance and resolved that brunch should be taken there instead. I confess to a moment of quiet amusement upon arriving. To station a Tesla amidst a gathering of gleaming motorcycles before what appeared to be a public house frequented by gentlemen of the road was rather like arriving at a fox hunt astride a mechanical curiosity. Yet no soul appeared troubled by the incongruity, and we entered with rather a hearty welcome. The establishment possessed that rare and enviable quality which no fashionable decorator may contrive, authenticity. Sturdy timber floors bore the marks of countless visitors, rustic ornaments adorned the walls with unpretentious pride, and the air was filled with the easy familiarity of regular patrons. Throughout our meal, motorcyclists came and departed with quiet regularity, lending the house a lively yet comfortable character. For my own luncheon, I selected the pulled pork accompanied by french fries, baked beans, and a cup of black coffee. It is not my custom to order beans, for they are too often treated as a mere accompaniment of little consequence. Yet this seemed precisely the sort of Southern establishment wherein such a humble dish would receive the respect it deserves. My confidence was rewarded. The beans were rich and savoury, the pork tender and abundantly satisfying, whilst the potatoes were crisp and well prepared. The coffee, served without embellishment, provided the perfect conclusion to a meal that restored both body and spirit before our day's travels. My lady, to my considerable surprise, elected to partake of chicken tenders, a selection most unlike her usual order. They arrived golden of crust and pleasingly crisp, proving that simple fare, when honestly prepared, requires neither flourish nor refinement to delight the palate. We lingered over our coffee, conversing at leisure whilst observing the steady procession of motorcyclists through the tavern's doors. There was no haste imposed upon us, nor any affectation in the establishment's manner. It sought not to impress by novelty, but rather by the honest provision of generous food and warm hospitality. One is occasionally reminded that the most memorable meals are seldom those long anticipated or meticulously arranged. More often they are discovered by happy accident, prompted by a passing remark and a willingness to alter one's course. Such was our experience at Riverside Tavern, a fortuitous diversion that rewarded us with excellent fare, and the quiet satisfaction of having found a place which reflects southern hospitality. read more

So sad! Used to be so great! The menu has been cut in half. No pretzel app, no chicken wrap, no trout, no chopped steak. It's all fried bar food and some BBQ now. Out of fries when we went, out of drinks that were on the menu, smoked chicken was ICE cold- No meat thermometer had touched that chicken. Drinks that were ordered never came. We just ended up leaving. Poor waitress had to be asked to refill tea/water. It was a hot mess. :( music was great but we will find somewhere else to listen to them. read more

Our ride home from Brasstown Bald mountain had us pass the Riverside & being thirsty & hungry we couldn't pass up the opportunity to sit by the river for a spell to enjoy a cocktail & the decent Wednesday buffalo wing special. Riverside Tavern has nicely expanded its seating with outside tables & a cool screened in porch overlooking the river. The GDOT has finally finished with the road improvements & the construction of the new bridge over RT19 Southbound at Turners Corner making a stop at Riverside very pleasant. Service is friendly & helpful. This neck of the woods has a lot more traffic now that it has been 'discovered' so drivers entering & exiting the parking lot need to take care. read more

We stopped in for lunch on the 4th of July. We were immediately seated and were greeted by the staff as we came in. Service was excellent and our meals arrived hot and exactly as ordered. There's both inside seating and riverside deck seating available your choice. We were very pleased with everything. read more

The place is really beautiful right next to the river. The service is good with the service being very good. Although the food took about 45 minutes the servers came over multiple times consoling us for the long wait. And let me tell you the food is worth the wait. The tacos were very good with big filets of fish in them. One of my favorite parts of this place is they don't skimp on the sides. The sweet potato fries are precut and crispy. The onion rings were also extremely good.the food is also fantastically priced and way better than other restaurants in the area. Overall this place is a must visit in Cleveland and if you're in the Helen area. read more

Wow! This place is a hidden treasure! If you happen to be in the area, don't miss a meal and fabulous service! We were served by Courtney, who didn't miss a beat and waited on us like we were her family. 5 of us got meals, three of which were the trout. Amazing! Everyone was so happy with their lunch, and the cute, kitschy atmosphere made it all the better. The outdoor patio overlooking the river is supposed to be gorgeous, but I wasn't able to view that. This place is worth going out of your way to enjoy the ambience, the amazing service, and the fabulous food! read more

On vacation in the area, got into town about 3:00 and was in a pinch because all the restaurants close early as heck on Sunday. The only place that was open near my resort was this tavern and they closed at 5:00 so we were got lucky. Spouse ordered the Ruben which was juicy and I ordered the cheeseburger which was pretty tasty as well. The fried green tomatoes were excellent. Also ordered the wing a which had later that night and they were cooked right too. Can't say enough good things and wait staff was friendly and polite. OMG! Stumbled into this "dive", after hiking today. Still cannot believe what we experienced!!! Started with the fried green tomatoes. Excellent! The Pitmaster IS a MASTER! I had the best ribs I have ever eaten. I did not insult them with sauce. Did not need one ounce of sauce! My wife's pulled pork sammich was to die for! Baked beans were off the fork, amazing! Cole slaw was done extremely well. Great draft beers. Something for everyone!!! Lots of unexpected great wine. Danny (our so sweet bartenderess) was the bomb! All staff were friendly and on their game. We will be back, often. It is not to be missed. Very casual, but service and food, at the top of the GA food chain!!! read more

We enjoy driving up to Riverside Tavern on Sundays for lunch before a hike in the mountains. Excellent Tavern style food. I especially like their pork barbecue melt, hamburgers and chicken fingers. Unfortunately, we have driven up from Suwanee twice to find the restaurant closed, even though their website shows them as open. They never answer the phone even when open, so we just drove up and were disappointed. It's a family run restaurant, so I guess these things are to be expected. read more

Food was served quickly but that's not good, generous portion, cold in the middle. The waitress was very polite,friendly and sorry about the food situation. Offered to help with the problem. The place is at great location by the river over the water, nice bar. I hope that will correct the issue going forward. read more

Can't rave about this place enough! If you're up and site seeing in the area this is a most stop place to eat! The food is incredibly good! And the service was friendly and above and beyond. Wife had cheeseburger, which was spot on. I had the the fish and chips, based upon the yelp reviews. It's pretty sad when the best part of the fish and chips are the chips. I've never had fish and chips where I believe the fish may have been catfish. You guys can do better read more

The food was great. We had the loaded tots as an appetizer, the beee cheese on them was scrumptious. I had the trout which was perfectly seasoned, and my wife had the pulled pork tacos with the pineapple slaw. Both were delicious, and our bill was under $40. Delicious and inexpensive! So glad that this place re-opened! Now a new name and I suspect new owners, this has all of the charm the former restaurant had but with some interior upgrades. My wife and I sat out on the back deck today for lunch. I had the club sandwich & fries and an extra side of brunswick stew. The club was huge and I couldn't finish it (but almost!). Fries were solid and the brunswick stew was quite tasty and had a bit of spice to it. Staff was super friendly and very efficient. They have live music some nights and a full bar with a handful of craft drafts. We sat near a table with several local folks and had some lively conversation. Looking forward to a return visit the next time were in the mountains! read more

My husband and I visit the Dahlonega area pretty often from Florida and we always eat here. We've even brought family on multiple occasions. The food is consistently good and so is the service. At this point, I've sat both inside and out and both are great. On a nice night I like sitting outside by the river. My husband raves about the smoked chicken. He always continues to talk about it a couple days after. You won't be disappointed! read more

Wonderful view while enjoying dinner. We started with the crispy avocado and so so good! The Buffalo shrimp was also good. Then for our meals... we had the grill cheese with bar b que &fries, fish&chips with fries and the Firecracker burger with peach slaw, everything was wonderful!!! I feel like the entire menu must be good, the place was full. We do plan the make the hour drive again. I'm told our chef is Fig and he did an awesome job. We stopped in for a quick snack. We ordered the Trout plate to split. Our food arrived very quickly, and the portion size of the Trout was adequate to split. We opted for the peach slaw as a side and it was a very delightful twist on a typical staple. The atmosphere of the restaurant is great...Very cozy and clean. Great food and great service close to R-Ranch and some cool waterfalls. The smoked chicken was really good and juicy, the loaded tatertot starters were great, and my hubby loved the pork tacos. We have passed by here a million times on the way to my parents so we decided to stop in finally. Food was typical bar food. Don't expect anything else and it will be great. I had the patty melt and the o too s were cooked perfectly, Texas toast was light, buttery and delicious, the patty was well cooked. It could use some sort of sauce. Fries were great! My boyfriend got the mushroom Swiss burger. He said it was a good bar burger . My kids(teens ) had the kids Mac and cheese which was actually perfect and not from a box. And I almost forgot, we started with the large soft pretzel. It was awesome! The service was quick and friendly. read more

We really needed a cool place at this riverside location. Good service and good food. Nice cold beer! My only small complaint would be that the trout was overcooked. Being in north Georgia, you would expect the trout to be cooked perfectly. Trout is a thin cut and can be easily overcooked. But, it tasted good. Overall, great atmosphere and good food.
