Bourbon Street Grille has a unique set up. You can eat on the balcony overlooking Dahlonega Square or head around to the back if you are wheelchair bound or have a stroller. We had our 12 lb bundle of puppy joy with us so to the back deck we went. I think Dakotah was the only server on the main floor, both inside and out because it took a long time. Long time for water. He was busy even though the restaurant wasn't full. Poor guy. My hubby ordered the muffaletta and wasn't impressed. He ate it though. He loved his Abita root beer. I decided to order from the side menu and I'm so happy I did. The andouille sausage was grilled and tasty. The maque choux was amazing. Think Mexican corn with a Louisiana twist. Perfection!! The loaded grits were also wonderful- chocked full of gouda, bacon, and green onions. Delicious! The gumbo was thick like a stew. The flavor was smoky and sublime. My only beef is instead of all gumbo, the cup was filled mostly with rice... topped with gumbo. Overall we enjoyed our dinner. However, due to the pace of things, the underwhelming sandwich and perception of getting shorted on the chicken and gumbo. We visited twice in 24 hours. First late night for a dessert and then in the morning for breakfast (we were staying at the hotel above the restaurant). The bread pudding was delicious last night, and the servers were so friendly even with our arriving later in the evening. The breakfast this morning was glorious. We had the fried chicken and lost bread (aka French toast) and breakfast sandwiches made on beignets and Gouda grits. We sat on the balcony, which is totally worth waiting an extra 10 minutes if you're wondering. But the wait time was definitely an overestimate and we got called in 15 minutes sooner than expected. The portion size was perfect, super filling without being too much, and the cornbread that came with it was absolutely delicious and paired perfectly with the gumbo. Wow!! We love beginning our mountains vacation with lunch in Dahlonega, and today was fantastic!! We live on the Gulf coast, and visit New Orleans frequently, but this was some of the most delicious and authentic "Cajun creole cuisine" we've ever tasted. My "dirty shrimp" was fantastic...fresh and juicy shrimp in an amazing saucy rice. Our portions were more than generous, and our service was excellent in spite of how busy they were. We sat out on the balcony, which had a beautiful view and such a nice, relaxed vibe -- perfect for winding down after the trip. The food was amazing! I ordered the Dirty Shrimp, which was flavorful and cooked perfectly, and my boyfriend got the Fried Crawfish Po' Boy, which was packed with crispy crawfish and plenty of flavor. Enjoyed an absolutely fantastic dinner here the other night. From high quality food, great service, and a beautiful patio view overlooking the center of town, this restaurant checks all the boxes. I had my mind set on trying three things so I opted to get those instead of an entree. However my husband got an entree and it was a ton of food, enough to take home leftovers. I really enjoyed the crab cake, grits, and the Paul Thomas chocolate beignet for dessert (which was huge by the way, and great to share with someone else). My friends and I were in the area visiting a winery nearby. We had only shared a small charcuterie board there and were ready for a real meal afterwards. We were excited to try this place and even more relieved when we were able to get seated right away on a Saturday for late lunch/early dinner. For drinks we got their Rose water gin & tonic, Strawberry margarita, and sweet tea. The rose taste was subtle which is my preferred and my friends enjoyed their drinks. We also split fried pickles as an appetizer with ranch. They fell apart pretty easily but satisfied our salty craving. Entrees included Crab Cake with Cajun fries, Red snapper Pontchartrain with asparagus, and Pan seared mahi with mashed potatoes. Crab cakes were soft while the fries were crunchy. I really liked the sauce on the red snapper and found the mahi to be tender. For the finale, the dessert just had to be Beignets. There were slightly dense, chewy, and sweet with the centimeter thick layer of powdered sugar on top. Overall, all the dishes were well seasoned and hearty portions. We especially enjoyed our table since it was right on their balcony (small space) so we could people watch the street below. Bathroom was clean and organized. I started with a brown ale from Highland Brewing Company out of Asheville, NC. Great body and strong ale flavor, on draft. Service was on point, as always. Friendly and attentive, with nice check-in's to be sure we were enjoying our food. Food was delicious, of course. I tried the small swamp salad with my entree and it was an ample serving for two. So fresh, plenty of fresh lettuce and veg,served with homemade Bleu cheese dressing. No beignets for us this time, more's the pity, but our meals were far too satisfying to indulge. The house salad, called a swamp salad at $6 for a small was a steal. The large salad with a crab cake was more than satisfying. Surprisingly, the crab cake was more crab than breading. I'm used to a bit more "soup", but it was packed with sausage, shrimp, rice and veggie chunks. Spicy, too. Very good. A little more "soup" and it would have been some if the best I've ever tasted. I gave two stars because the food actually taste good. Every time we've been the flavor is always there, but this is the second time we've had a problem with the quality of the food. The first time the shrimp were not cooked. We let that go, but this time both my wife and I got sick and we didn't eat out anywhere else have had a stomach issue for two days! Sat on the upper balcony overlooking the square, a chilly night but worth it as we watched the people walking around the square. Would highly recommend getting there early to sit on the balcony. Restaurant was very busy over all, heard the wait time was over 1.5 hours mid way thru our meal. We had Creole Pasta Primavera, my wife enjoyed it and she added Chicken to her meal and through enjoyed it. I had the Shrimp Poor Boy which was very good but the shrimp were over cooked. For appetizers we had the Crawfish Dip which was to die for, our friends ordered a crab cake, which was burnt on the bottom. Beer selection is very limited only three American Selections, and 4 craft beers which they were out of one tonight. The ladies had Pinot Grigio and enjoyed the wine. Waitress was a little off tonight. One person asked for a straw and I asked for a Pint glass for my beer. Needless to say the glass or straw never showed up. We reminded her about the crab cake that was order as an entree to bring the rice with it. Carb cake showed up with out the rice on the side. Then when presenting the bill I had three items on my check that did not belong. They took care of it, but service was not top shelf that was for sure. Crab cakes and wings for appetizers (super) blackened snapper, sirloin over mashed potatoes with gravy with asparagus and frog legs with okra and mashed potatoes. All were fantastic. Sides a cup of gumbo and some spicy sausage. When the snapper came late after the two other main courses they Graciously took it off our bill. Total class. Drinks were very good (cosmos and I had coke as the driver) for dessert we had the beignets which were warm and covered with powered sugar, a top 100 meal of my life (and I'm old). Located right at the town square, this place offers a diverse selection of food options. You can sit upstairs on the outside patio which will give you a nice view of the town or sit inside and chill in the AC during the hot summer months. We started with the fried pickles as an appetizer which had nice dill flavors and crispiness. It was followed by Surf (shrimp) and Turf (ribeye) and Shrimp & Grits. I ordered the steak medium but it came out medium well (like most places, they overcook a level). I will keep reminding myself to lower the temp! The dish still turned out decent as ribeyes keeps the flavors well. The Shrimp & Grits came out in a bowl which is not something I'm used to. It also had green and yellow peppers as veggies, which made the pairing quite unusual. Again the flavor of the shrimp and grits tasted fine, probably not a dish I'd order again. We ordered some drinks: I had the old fashioned and it was pretty good, my boyfriend ordered the mojito and he really liked it. I tried it to and thought it was pretty tasty. For food we ordered their wings, which were good, and the creamy pasta primavera with chicken sausage and wow! A flavor explosion. I was so so pleasantly surprised and would love to know where they get their chicken sausage from because it was delicious! The sauce for my pasta was amazing and so flavorful!!! My boyfriend ordered the shrimp and grits and enjoyed that as well. His meal came with this incredible jalapeño cornbread that I could've eaten all night lol. We made a reservation in advance for Sunday Brunch. We requested the bottom floor. If you have elderly folks with you, there are many steps to climb to the upper dining. The staff was very friendly and attentive, no complaints. Service was exceptional.... Our food arrived in a good time, somewhat warm but acceptable. However, I was not thrilled by the smell coming from the plates, smelled consistently like a wet dog, possibly dirty dish water when cleaning them ? Was not impressed with the nickel and dime charges for salad dressings and butter, you really need to charge a quarter for butter sine my bagel was requested to have it buttered .... And seventy-five cents for salad dressing ! Really ..... If you arrive at the right time, sort of between lunch and dinner, there's a good chance you'll be seated right away. We started with salad, which comes in two sizes: one priced at $6, the larger at $8. Know that the large is ample for three or more people to share as a starter. I bet the $6 salad would've been enough for the two of us. My complaint about shrimp & grits is that it's often prepared with an overload of cream, making it nauseatingly rich. Not here! My husband's dish was light and flavorful. Really good! Even the corn muffin that came with it. I stuck with a shrimp po boy. Blackened. Yum. They did a good job with the homemade chips, too. While Dahlonega is most certainly a tourist destination, the town has several restaurants that are pretty good. Came here after a trip to Amicalola Falls and was pleasantly surprised. This is a New Orleans creole style restaurant with a lot of great options. I came with a party of 6 with no reservation and we were seated within 15 mins no issue. This is a very casual restaurant and they offered both a brunch and dinner menu. I had a hard time deciding what to order, concerned with how some of the dishes looked in pictures, but was pleasantly surprised. I decided on the Praline French Toast with Fried Chicken. I normally don't do really sweet dishes but the French Toast was perfect. As a person with very sensitive teeth I had no issues with the French toast which was topped with a praline sauce which was lightly sweet. I wasn't a fan of the chicken which were thin filets of chicken breast. I was expecting a juicy wing, thigh it breast. I would not even feed this food to my dog as I'm sure he would turn his nose to it as well. We also ordered the pasta Primavera. The linguine utilized to make this dish was overcooked and not al dente. The dish had no flavor and was bland. Do yourself a favor and skip this restaurant as when we ask what they're known for they stated jambalaya.
