This has become one of our mainstays and one of the few restaurants with a chef who cooks most things rather than buying them packaged. The renovation was amazing a the slick decor looks great. The service has been universally good. The food is consistent with some huge winners. I love the Swoardfish, the Sirloin, Chicken Tiki Marsala, the Salmon, all the burgers and the Greek and Caesar Salads. The dry rubbed wings are great starters. I made a reservation for six people. The service was abominable. We ordered drinks and dinner soon after we sat down. The drinks were very slow to arrive. And they arrived 1-2 at a time and then a wait. After a long time 2 wines had not arrived. When we flagged down our wait staff, she checked and said they were out of the kind we ordered. So we chose a different label and those wines finally arrived after the dinners had started arriving. But the dinners are another story. One arrived. Then 2 more (which were set down in front of the wrong people so they had to switch). Then 2 more arrived after awhile. My dinner never arrived. When the wait staff finally checked to see if all was well, she was surprised that my dinner hadn't arrived. She checked and they "missed" it so had to cook it and then it was delivered about the time everyone else was finishing with their dinners. I don't blame the wait staff as it was really the disorganization of the restaurant. The food was good, but not worth the angst. The restaurant was busy but if they want to stay busy, then they should get their act in order. I was given a 25% discount off my dinner. The entire process took about an hour 45 minutes. New owners, new name, new hours, new menu. Our food and drinks were perfect! I had the walleye sandwich with the asparagus soup , hubby had the crispy chicken sandwich with a side salad, and we shared an order of onion rings. Both the onion rings and chicken sandwich came with siracha aioli- we were worried that it would be too spicy, but it was yum! Food- 5 stars Staff friendliness- 5 stars New interior- 5 stars Speed of service - 3 stars. I haven't been here in years and I'm sure glad I went back! Fabulous walleye- some of the best I've ever had. Was cooked so well and not a butch of soggy breading, rather just the right amount. Potato was great (thanks Shane for the cottage cheese). Plate was beautiful- just look at the fruit and flower! Great service and walked away with two pints of ice-cream and again- seriously fantastic. Took home the Double Chocolate and the Captain Crunch. This ice cream is made onsite. SO good! Some reviewers say it's expensive here. I say I'd rather pay $35 for an amazing meal than $25 for meh Walleye. Will for sure be back! read more

This was our second time at The Riverside Tavern. It was wonderful! Our server Michael W. was everything you want for a server, there without being too close. Our burger were perfectly cooked, and very tasty. We asked for our fries and onion rings to be made without the seasoning and our request was honored without any push back. Really disappointing in the new ownership here. We used to love this place, had a tradition of always going to dinner over MEA weekend. Loved the food, people, and the supper club feel. We tried to stop this year and were met immediately by a rude lady at the desk, essentially shooing us away. I don't know if she didn't like that we had 2 kids with us, but as we walked in she shook her head "no" and said "hour and a half wait" before we said a word. This used to be such a warm, welcoming place. Wouldn't recommend it now. read more

We came to Riverside Inn in we went to Riverside Inn for dinner last night. I've been to other restaurants in Cross Lake many times, but haven't had the opportunity to try Riverside inn. I've been missing out!!Teri was our server and she was a pro!! I had the walleye and lobster bisque soup. Both were out of this world! The au gratin potatoes were pretty darn good as well!! I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant and will even go so far as to say it is the best in the area! We will definitely recommend and return!! read more

This was my first here since their renovation. They did a wonderful job of updating their restaurant. We had the spinac and artichoke dip which was served with buttered crostinI. The best I have had in a long time. No artichoke dip should be served with tortilla chips. I had the blackened ribeye. I am very picky in regards to my steaks. This was the best ribeye in ages. It was an excellent piece of meat perfectly cooked. Congrats to the Riverside on my excellent meal. Too bad they are 3 hours away otherwise they would be my restaurant of choice. read more

This is a typical northern MN restaurant. We had burger, grilled and fried chicken. Fried chicken was good but it was very salty and the breading belongs on fish. The lobster bisque was also good but I don't think that was authentic lobster. Potato casserole was very cheesy and I didn't really like the flavor. read more

My first review of Riverside Inn was more than 10 years ago. My husband and I were in town, and I wanted to come back for the lobster bisque to see if it was as good as I remembered. I have to say it did not disappoint!! I did the quarter chicken with the au gratin potatoes and my husband had the Parmesan crusted walleye with the twice bake, both were amazing! The ambience, view of the river, and service from Jolene were as well! Definitely recommend stopping in and if you want something sweet... their homemade ice cream home will not disappoint! Went for supper tonight, hubby had the "grilled" chicken sandwich, but the menu description says "broiled". He requested the side salad and no fries. He got the side salad and french fries. We were charged $8. for the side salad of lettuce, and 2 cherry tomatoes. I tried "banh ni" sandwich, requested the lobster bisque soup and no french fries. Received french fries and no soup. They weren't very busy, but waited 50 minutes for our food. Waitress never checked on us. Food tasted like it was microwaved. Our bill for 2 sandwich's, and 2 beers, $61.00!! The food is really good and the service is as well. The ambience is classic northern Minnesota supper club. I ordered a dinner to go from the bartender - so far, so good. He asked what I was looking for. I say fried chicken. He sets me up with a three piece meal. That is, 3 pieces of fried chicken with a little cup of mashed potatoes and a cup of cole slaw. $19 Bucks. I should've looked at the menu. I could've paid less and gotten a baked potato and a salad with the chicken. My mistake. Won't make it again. But 19 dollars for a 3 piece meal? read more

Had dinner there last nigh with a party of 6. I had the chicken and was disappointed, the chicken was vastly overrated in my opinion. The coating was extremely salty and was not really a chicken batter. Other diners had the ribs which they said were good and one had the walleye which was also just ok. We happened to be there on a Tuesday night and it was all you can eat chicken but we're never told...so I ordered the regular chicken dinner not knowing, the all you can eat was $5 less. When our bill came I questioned the waitress and admitted she made a mistake, no offer to match a price just a "my bad" excuse. No offer for refills on soft drinks or water, needless to say as full time summer resident I'll never go back. read more

Worst. Service. Ever. We arrived around dinnertime and were directed to the bar because the main dining area was full. When we sat down, four or so tables followed closely behind, and a couple in the bar. Those tables had different servers... Lucky ducks. After fifteen or so minutes, our server, Liz, greeted us and brought over water. That was the best part of the night. She was very short and unhelpful when one of our guests had an allergy-related question about a menu item. We ordered, and waited... And waited... And waited. After an hour, we finally received our salads. Fifteen minutes later (an hour and fifteen minutes after we ordered) we still hadn't received our meals. Liz hadn't even come over to check on us or refill our waters. The other tables had eaten their apps, main courses, and desserts, and had paid their bills. But where was our food? An hour and a half after we ordered, Liz finally came by and asked if she could get us anything. We asked about our main courses. She said it would be 2-3 more minutes. Which became ten minutes. When we finally got our food, it was good. I had a the mushroom-swiss burger (the fries are your average fries), and those who were with me had the AYCE fish and the salmon. They said it was good, but not worth an hour and a half wait. We also had to wait a long time for our check. To recap: Food isn't bad. Terri is very rude....... My daughter and I and grandchildren ages 12 and 2... went in for lunch today. We choose this place because the parking lot was pretty empty and we were hoping for quick service. Upon walking in we were greeted and seated immediately by a gal named Terri. I was so relieved when she sais our server would be with us soon. She did not leave a good impression upon me. Our server name was Joleen. WE LOVED HER Great service and great with the kids. Here is where things get interesting.....the 2 yr old was playing with a plastic cup(which crayons came in)...well the little boy was playing with said cup by tipping it over on the table and uprighting....over and over....giggling away. At this time there were 3 total tables and 2 people and the bar. I was keeping an eye on them to see if anyone was looking annoyed with us for letting him play with the cup. I did not notice any changes in their behavior aka...looking irrated. Then all of a sudden...I see Terri (the lady who sat us) and was now behind the bar.....she was walking toward our table....she had a stomping walk as she approached. She grabbed the cup out of the toddlers hand and said as she walked away....sorry we can't have this.....and went back to the bar....SHE WAS VERY RUDE....I was fit to be tied....I wanted to walk out. But food was order and we were hungry. Our food came...we ate...when it came time to pay. I asked out server if she had to share the tip because I would have insisted she keep it all. But no they dont share tips. Upon leaving I walked up to the bar and told Terri that the way she handled the situation was very rude. That if there was a problem she should have said something and let us handle it. She said she thought the mother of the child was inconsiderate and should have handle the situation instead of disrupting the restaurant. AGAIN ONLY 11 PEOPLE IN THE WHOLE PLACE. I was watching to make sure no one was upset by what I could see. This lady did not even offer an apology . WITH A GAL LIKE THAT ON STAFF MY FAMILY WILL NEVER RETURN AGAIN I will leave this ....Joleen was fabulous.....I would visit any place she was a server at. They are very lucky to have her on staff!! read more

He gave us a sample of the Lobster Bisque which was by far the best I have ever had and 6 of the 9 of us got it, along with the Fresh Raspberry Mojito he made us.
