Traditional down home style diner with solid breakfast fare (apparently good food and drinks other times as well) but we've only eaten here for breakfast over the past few years so we'll focus on that. I'm a fan of standard PA Dutch Country fare, so my first question was, "Do you have scrapple?" And the answer was, "Yes, we do." Ok, off to a great start. Along with that I ordered Eggs over easy, Home Fries (not those frozen thingies) - but real potatoes browned on the griddle, coffee and a side dish of SOS (more commonly called Cream Chipped Beef or Dried Beef in gravy). The scrapple was good, save for the fact that it was dropped in the deep fryer (a common practice), but I would have preferred grilled. Eggs done to ooey gooey perfection, SOS loaded with nicely chopped pieces of salty paper-thin beef in a thick white gravy. Toast topped it all off and I was stuffed with a smile on my face. My wife ordered her regular fare of scrambled eggs (which came cooked very well; cooked through completely but remaining moist). In addition she ordered Hash Browns (these were slightly underdone and missing the crispy brown edges we like.) Finally she asked for crispy bacon and received 5 dandy slices. Smoky. It was the kind of thing where you look around and try to spot who is smoking...yes, that smoky. This was dinnertime on a Wednesday...not like we were trying to have a sit-down family dinner after hours. We spotted the bar next door. That explains the source of the smell. In retrospect, we shouldn't have stayed. 2 stars is fair for the experience--food and environment. If you don't mind smoky bar smell, taste go for it. read more

The bar says on the window they close at 12:00 pm. Yet they locked the doors at 11:25, and the bartender shot pool with her friends. Pretty clear why they will sell their license to the next gas station with 500k. Don't bother spending money here. If the bartender isn't willing to make 15$-20$ for a few beers... imagine how their kitchen staff feels about what they put out. Sunday we ordered 6 large pizza's for a special event. Half were cheese, half pepperoni and it cost $89. The largest large pizza's and the best. We come 20 minutes away just to get their pizza! Always get what we order, sliced as we ask! read more

If you are in the York/ Lancaster area , you must try the Broasted Chicken at Rivertowne Restaurant. Warning: We ordered 4 piece platters. We were so hungry for this, that we decided to start eating first. Yes, it's that good! I tried the Cream of Crab Soup. The diced peppers made it unlike any other Cream of Crab Soup I've ever had. The Cheddar Mashed Potatoes were tasty and the Harvard beets for the vegetable completed our entree. They have a bar and a cold Yuengling was the perfect drink for our dining experience. Cute little place conveniently located off route 30. The instant you walk in, you can tell this place has been around for years. Looking at the decor, it's probably never been updated. The ladies working were very sweet and attentive. My coffee mug was never empty. Breakfast was mediocre. I had the greek omelette - eggs were overcooked, browned on the top. Don't sleep on the egg rolls on the appetizer list, they're so good. Usually they're pretty busy but when I went we were literally the only people in the restaurant. The restaurant was quiet and cold, with a hint of Christmas music in the back. (I went right before Christmas). I really wasn't expecting good food but it was delicious. Also I'd like to add that every time I come into this restaurant with my friends the waitresses specifically look so Pissed. Probably because they think we won't tip but that's never the case. We had a family dinner of 12 and most of the food was adequate, but one of us ordered the meatloaf and it was disgusting. The server was really nice. We asked for a substitute of 1 meal after several of us tasted it and it was truly not safe to eat and looked like it was spoiled. The owners sent the waitress out to tell us we can take it home because they are charging us for it. My family eats here on average of once per week. They will not get any of our business again, from now on. Please do not go here they are horrible owners /cooks and cowards. If you work here you should go some place that respects you. read more

Terrible! I entered through the bar side not knowing it was separate from the rest of the diner. The bar was smokey and there were a few crack whores and derelicts at the bar. The roast beef was dry underneath the gelatinous brown gravy. I order mashed potatoes and never got them after asking several times. I also ordered the applesauce and was excited for homemade but it was clearly jarred sauce. We asked several times for water and beers but were ignored. I finally walked across the diner and into the dive bar to get water and beers for our table! I'm not sure why the waitress wrote anything down bc each time she returned to the table she had incorrect items or not enough of an item for our table! We won't be back and I hope that the little bit I ate there does not come back to haunt me later. Nastiest dinner I ever had. read more

The food was decent, but we were not expecting the smell of cigarette smoke be in the air. After about 10 minutes we discovered that there is a bar attached and for some reason smoking is permitted inside the bar. The smokes drifts into the restaurant and now 3 hours later our clothes and hair still smell like smoke. read more

Eh. Nothing special. I had a sausage, egg and cheese bagel with hash browns. The bagel was burned on one side so i had to pick that off. The hash browns were also burned but only slightly. They weren't bad, just sort of bland. Also my husband had ordered a water and the water tasted awful. Almost like salt water. Not sure what that was about but we just spilt my soda. Garbage food. Garbage service. I got an inedible bacon cheeseburger with bacon so tough I could've made a wallet out of it. One of the guys at my table got a salad that was half rotten. Drinks were NEVER refilled. Piss poor service and attitude from our service. Seemed like we got curb service for not being locals. read more

It is a shame that an intense smell of smoke emanates from the bar into every area of seating in the restaurant at all times. The place is cozy as far as a restaurant goes and the food is OK. Service is usually good but sometimes not. But the smoke really overpowers things and makes it hard to continue to dine here as a family establishment. I hope the owners rethink how to seal the smoke smell out or discontinue to allow smoking in their bar area. They are losing business because of this. read more

Love their pizza. Affordable and great food. The servers and bartenders are friendly and never go without checking for refill needs. This is one of my fav places to go. You should really check it out. Fridays they have free pizza. There food is starting to suck. The Pizza the last couple times were drown in oregano and the crust was way to thick and uneven and the topping are slim to none, then just yesterday I went for breakfast that used to be great and the French toast was awful. Soggy in the middle on one piece so I thought I'd try taking it home and cooking it more and I look at the second piece and it was just totally dry bread on the one side, just gross. There sausage gravy was like paste and didn't have any sausage in it and this awful breakfast was more than $20.00. Never again. I think I'm done with their food. read more

We went to the restaurant for breakfast this morning and as soon as we walked in we remembered why we stopped eating there. Even with the remodel there is the constant smell of stale cigarette smoke coming from the bar area. We were hoping the remodel would have done away with that... But no! We also were reminded how long it takes to get any service. We sat at out booth for almost 15 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. The food was still very good, and reasonably priced. Rivertown (or Phil's to some the locals) has always been my favorite restaurant in town. They're prices are good, foods quick, and they have some of my favorite waitresses and cooks. If you want a quick, good diner style breakfast, this is your spot. read more

What a horrible experience all around. My boyfriend and I stopped during lunch to order take out. First off, the waitress gave us little to no time at all to look at the menu, and stood there starring at us until we decided. I ordered a Greek salad, and he ordered what was described as a "haddock filet" sandwich. Not only was the sandwich identical to that of a McDonald's fish filet, but there wasn't even tartar sauce on it. Also, there were no utensils what so ever for me to eat my salad with, and the feta cheese that was clumped on top tasted rancid. Worst 11 dollars I have ever spent. decent place for breakfast. got there at about 8:30 am on a sunday which apparently was just in the knick of time - place really started filling up right after that. coffee was pretty good and they kept the refills a-comin. i had a broccoli and cheese omelette with hash browns and it was good. husband got a sausage and cheese omelette and he wasn't overly thrilled with it - said the sausage tasted like the sausage you get as a pizza hut topping! weird, i know. doubt that this place will make it into our regular rotation but it is a cheap sunday am option for when hinkle's doesn't open til 11AM and no breakfast... read more

We wre out on a Sunday drive admiring the coutryside and stopped in to grab lunch.. Server was very friendly and the food was excellent.. I had an amazing meat lover's stromboli and my wife had a very good wrap. I would have given 5 stars but they had 2 very large groups come in and fill the entire place and only 1 poor waitress. We kind of got held hostage trying to leave. She did her best and by the time we left they had 2 more servers arrive that they called to help get her caught up.. This place was pretty good for what it was until they raised their prices about a year ago. Now the quality isn't worth the price. You can get better food (and FAR better service) for the same price elsewhere. In addition, the place is constantly FILLED with smoke smell. They don't even try to remember to keep the doors between the bar and the restaurant closed, but that isn't surprising considering the level of care shown by the waitresses. THey were never overly professional, but now they don't even bother to do anything but stand in the back and chat with each other until you flag them down. Don't waste your time. It's worth the extra drive to go somewhere else. read more
