Our server today was Jackie, who provided good service and was personable and friendly. We started with cocktails, an old-fashioned for him and a bees knees for me. The bartender didn't quite get the bees knees to the right balance level with the honey, but I asked one of the staff to ask the bartender to add more honey. He kind of missed the mark on that cocktail unfortunately. In his defense, a lot of bartenders really don't know how to make a good bees knees. We ordered the meatballs and polenta to share as an appetizer. The meatballs rivaled my Italian dad's, and that says a lot because he made the best meatballs ever. The restaurant didn't serve grilled crostini with their meatballs like other places unfortunately, and there was no bread service. However, I believe they do have garlic bread on their menu that you can order For dinner my husband had the short ribs with gnocchi and I had the vodka rigatoni. Both of those dishes were delicious. I don't like short ribs but I gave it a taste - it was tender and delicious. My vodka rigatoni came with chicken for some reason (this 100% Italian would never put chicken with rigatoni alla vodka) so I nixed it. A half slice of garlic bread was served on each of our entrées. My husband's was perfectly grilled and mine was not. The one time I was getting bread and it turned out to be meh. We ordered a tiramisu to take with us to enjoy later that evening. It was light and heavenly. However, for the price, I think they could have offered a larger slice as it was a small 3 x 3 square. Having said that I love that we found a place that has good food just a five-minute walk from the theater. I think our fellow theater goers discovered this place, too, because the place was packed. Even with the slight things that I was disappointed in, I would return time and time again because the food is really good. Give this place to try!

(They do not take reservations for small parties, but allow you to call ahead and they'll try to have a table ready.) our server was attentive and efficient, if a bit brusque. Food came without delays. Food was the big disappointment. My salad was limp and the honey/mustard dressing was too sharp and did not taste good. Blackened haddock would have been OK, but was dreadfully salty. Fries were OK. Another diner said the Reeuben was gloppy and falling apart. There's a compact but decent selection od beers on draft. I won't be back -- the food was too disappointing. If I had a do-over, I'd have lobbied group to go to Hardware in North Aurora -- close and much better food.

The venue even let us in earlier than requested to set up our decor. We would definitely recommend this venue for a bridal/baby shower or birthday party - any special event that is smaller in numbers. The venue has been advertising a new addition to the space next to building but it seems the construction has haulted. It is a shame because it is a bit of an eyesore - BUT, if they complete this addition, it will be beautiful. Hope they are able to complete it. The Gray's Mills has history with it's town so I hope locals will continue to support it. When we come back to visit our son and my new daughter-in-law, we will definitely be back for a visit - especially if the weather is nice!! I've been having some hearing issues lately, and the restaurant was extremely loud. We politely asked our waitress if we could move to the other room so I could hear better. She simply said, "No, it's closed," and then walked away before we could say anything else. We ended up sitting directly underneath the TV, wedged between three very loud tables. We noticed there was an empty area on the other side of the bar, so after waiting until the waitress was finished talking with other customers, my husband politely asked if we could move over there because it was quieter and would make it easier for me to hear. She completely ignored him. He asked again. She looked directly at him and said, "I don't have time for this," and walked away. At that point, we simply got up and left. I own a local business in Yorkville, right down the street from Burnt Barrel, and I would never allow one of my employees to treat a customer this way. We weren't asking for anything unreasonable--we were simply trying to find a quieter place to sit because I was having difficulty hearing. People have bad days, and I understand that. But there is never a reason to dismiss and speak to customers that way, especially when they are being polite. Unfortunately, after this experience, we will not be returning. It's a shame because we genuinely liked this place and had always enjoyed coming

Tonight I found out that Paisano's Sugar grove IL does not the same owners as the original Elburn…read moreIL pizza.. we have order from Elburn for many years and when we order from Sugar Grove the pizza is not the same. Today we got a raw pizza which we paid $40 for it. They clearly state that it will take an hour to cook. We got our pie in 26 min or so... then the lady manager told me how the process goes... yes I told her you still deliver a raw pie... I asked for a complete refund and I got 16.28 back... thank you Jimmy John's for backing us up... never again will we order from Sugar Grove Paisanos.. if you are the owner read this and correct your management and process..
