    Enchilada Lunch special
    Missi R.

We were driving through Anderson when working in the area and decided to stop for lunch. I ordered from the lunch menu, a special that was an enchilada, rice, and beans. My coworker ordered street tacos. Our food arrived very quickly, before we had much time to fill up on chips and salsa, which was good. We both enjoyed our meals, good basic Mexican food. The salsa was very good, chips were kind of average. Service was excellent. A good lunch stop.

    Nachos

Stopped by because a few of my friends had heard good things about this restaurant. I had bean nachos, which were spot on, a typical nacho dish from a Mexican restaurant. The margaritas were on special and only $3 for a January special, no dry January here. The service was quick and the restaurant was pretty busy!

You can also try the burgers or pastas here. Yes it's not cheap, but the food quality and the portion sizes make this worth your while. For starters we received a plate with mini cheesy arepas. Delicious. If you have time on your hands, I recommend trying the paella, which takes 20+ minutes to prepare. Good paella takes time. The paella comes for parties of 2, 4 or 6 to share. You can have beef, sausage, chicken or seafood. You can also have a combo of beef, chicken and sausage, which is what we opted for. OMG this stuff is good, and lots of it. This is about the most authentic paella I have had outside of Spain. Some of my guests had the seafood paella and concur that this is good stuff. My guests also raved about the arepas, which came with a mountain of goodies on top. When asked if you prefer cole slaw or lettuce on it, go for the cole slaw, it adds another dimension to the arepa. A few of us had the empanadas, which are served piping hot, so don't burn your mouth. As difficult as it may be, wait a minute before biting into it. We were too stuffed to even consider any dessert, so I cannot comment on that part. Check it out, this place deserves recognition.

We sat at the bar and were very well taken care of by Christian, who provided excellent service from start to finish. I decided to order the empanadas, guac, and churros from the happy hour menu. Everything was $5/each. I went with the steak empanadas, cuz unfortunately you can't mix and match flavors. For me, the texture was a bit off. Christian noticed my hesitation right away and kindly offered to replace them. He brought out the chicken empanadas instead, and they were much better. Not phenomenal, but enjoyable. My classic margarita was refreshing... until the manager offered me a sample of the Carriage House margarita. Whew! Yaaaass! That was deliciously potent! Easily two drinks in one, so pace yourself. It has officially become my new go-to leaded bev when dining here. If paella is your thing, I'd absolutely recommend it. That's usually my standard order. But just a heads up... sometimes it can be a lil like my friend when my outfit is cuter than hers - salty! So, you may find yourself needing another margarita to help balance your palate. And don't forget to add to your Cunningham rewards!!!! 1000 points equals a $100 gift card.

I order guacamole, but also tried the ceviche and cauliflower - all good! I was impressed by the ceviche. I got the taco salad for my entree. It was just okay for me. I didn't see a lot of meat, so I lost interest pretty fast. I'd try something else next time, but no complaints overall.

She's sometimes a picky eater, but she dug in to the two plates that we ordered and went back for seconds and thirds. The menu is complex (to me) with the mix of South and Central American bowls, sandwiches and burritos. We ordered two bowls to share (the bows are enormous)! The Venezuelan Chicken Bowl is a favorite of ours with the fried plantains. The chicken is tender with a ton of flavor, and not overly spicy. You just can't find these flavors anywhere else. The Mexican Bowl was also delicious with the fresh pico and avocado. The kidney beans taste amazingly fresh. The beef is delicious. We took home plenty of leftovers. The service is friendly and food comes out hot and quickly. The small dining room is upscale fast food and there is a patio with tables. I highly recommend a visit. I'm hooked!

My first visit on December 2020 and second visit in June 2021. This was my first try for Venezuelan food. I ordered the Peruvian Arepas (grilled shrimp, avocado and pink sauce). It was so delicious and flavorful that I ordered the same thing on my second visit. LOL! Additionally, I also ordered plantains with cheese and plain plantains. It was ok. It wasn't sweet like I had expected. It was a little dry as well. I still ate them. Upon my second visit, I ate my food outside as the day was warm, sunny and perfect! He kept apologizing, but honestly it did not take that long to get our food. And the food is such a #yum! (Because of a Yelp item, I had a free Pabellon Arepa - it had a really good size portion of shredded beef, beans, cheese, and, my favorite, sweet plantains.) But outside of that, my husband was with me and we ordered more food: The Don Luis bowl (chicken fajita with rice & beans), and a side of fried yuca. We also got a side of tequenos - the delicious little fried cheese sticks wrapped in a thicker dough. Everything was tasty, and we have enough leftovers that I have lunch the next two days! #yum #ReviewsByRL

My cousin got the fried patacon/plantain sandwich. He couldn't pick it up because it was drenched in sauce. He had to eat it with a fork and eventually use his hands, but it was very messy. It was tasty, but he wished he got an empanada instead. I forgot the exact empanada I got, but it was based off different Central American countries. I asked the cashier for his recommendation and I went with Colombia or Panama; I can't recall. You can't go wrong with either. The texture was amazing. I loved how crispy the exterior was! Not sure if it's made from corn or something else, but I was expecting a texture like bread, which can get doughy and soggy. This empanada was crispy all around though, and I wish I got two instead of one. The orange hot sauce that it came with tasted very spicy and delicious. We got fried plantain chips as a side. They're starchy and don't taste much like bananas, but it was a filling alternative to fries. The price is a bit hefty, and coming from California, that's saying a lot. However I highly recommend eating an empanada here!
