This was our second time visiting this restaurant and we were not disappointed. We were quickly greeted. We received our chips and drinks quickly. Our entrees came out pretty fast as well. I ordered the shredded beef chimichanga and my hubby ordered the dinner combo #14(one enchilada, one burrito, & one tamale). Everything was amazing. This is the busiest Mexican restaurant in town, and for a good reason. The food is always hot and fresh and only takes minutes from the time you order to get it. I have been here on countless occasions, and have been impressed more times than not. As much as I like the chef special, I do try to get different things at times this place is typically busy from the time they open until the time they close. Recently, we have gone a few times, and the chips were cold and stale which is not always the best first impression. The main course, however, has always been hot and fresh. Some of my favorite things to order are the chef special of course; the taco salad; the Hawaiian plate without pineapple; the beef and cheese nachos; the fajita nachos are fantastic; sometimes just ordering a large queso is good for me; beef tacos are simple yet tasty. In all honesty I have been pleased with pretty much everything on the menu. It would just be nice to have fresh tortilla chips every time. I would definitely recommend this place if you like Mexican food as well as fast service and they cost is not terrible. Reason for four stars is that the chips are not always fresh and the service is not always the best. Of course, this is always depends on which server you get because some of the servers are absolutely fantastic. read more

We went there a little after 1:00 pm, the front door was crowded with people checking out and 2 more waiting to be seated. We were seated right away, asked what we would like to drink, and 2 min later we had our drinks, salsa and our order was taken. We didn't wait 10 min and our meals were served. They were hot and delicious! Hubby couldn't finish all of his so we took it home. We love this restaurant! They are polite, prompt and bend over backwards for you to have a delicious meal. I love this place so much. I've been coming here since I moved to new castle in the 8th grade and still have to stop here every time I visit. The staff is always so friendly and it doesn't take long to get your food. I absolutely love their soft chicken tacos and queso. I also really like their salsa as the mild isn't spicy and I prefer a less chunky salsa. They definitely need to make some updates to their seating but other than that I love this place! read more

I haven't been in awhile due to the last three times I nor my group was not happy with the meals we ordered. Los Amigos was a staple in our small town for great service, delicious food and of course a nice atmosphere. I am not sure what changed in the original dynamic of this restaurant but I really wish it would return to just that the original dynamic. I would travel from Ohio when I lived there to meet with family and enjoy a good meal of chimichangas and arroz con pollo. But as I said in the beginning I haven't enjoyed my last three visits. On one visit my chimichangas were watery and soggy, the lettuce was off and when I asked our waiter he seemed to not care that we had an issue at all. So we waited and went back another time thinking it was just an off night, my child did not want Mexican food so she ordered the chicken nuggets and fries. I ordered the Arroz con pollo and again the food was not good. Her nuggets were freezer burnt bad and the fries were half cooked. I understand that it is a Mexican food establishment but I still was expecting edible food for the price and the option we went with. I took my food home where it sat in the fridge until ready to be thrown out. Now I will be going back to this restaurant because I believe they can redeem themselves and I am willing to give it another shot. I truly hope they can pull it together and make Los Amigos great again as I am missing the good times we would have bringing family and friends there to eat. read more

This Mexican Restaurant is very popular but it shouldn't be, the food there is disgusting and one time I went I found a HAIR in my moms food, definitely not worth it. But the drinks there are good, but it's just like anything else. Returned here again, impressed with food quality, and friendly service. My husband and I got there at noon, the staff were decently busy, we still got our food within 10 minutes of ordering. We were pleasantly suprised to find out they had fried ice cream for only $2.50! It was tastey, perfect amount to split. We had lunch for $10.80. This is 100% the best thing about New Castle, IN. I've been coming here since I was a little girl and still thought the salsa was too spicy. I've been going to Los Amigos basically my entire life, and it is my favorite place to eat in New Castle hands down. The decor and atmosphere really isn't too impressive, but don't let that sway you. The entire restaurant is very clean and has plenty of tables for parties of all sizes. I recommend this place for lunch or dinner any day of the week and that's not just due to the value, but the portion size and taste. The service has been up-and-down over time, but as of today it is at it's peak. The staff is professional and tries their best but the wait times can be arduous, mostly due to the lingering aromas of truly authentic Mexican cuisine that eventually make the delay all worth it. Always order a small or large dish of dipping cheese to enjoy with their fresh tortilla chips along with your drinks; you won't regret it! They always offer great specials for lunch and dinner that are well-priced and sized but my recommended dishes are the chef's special (chicken & rice), crunchy beef tacos, the chicken quesadilla, and the beef taco salad. A simple and reasonably-sized menu coupled with fresh and expertly prepared ingredients makes for a very rewarding purchase. The price is right and I will continue to eat here as well as recommend it to others. read more

This place is one of the staples, in New Castle. My wife literally ate here every day of her pregnancy. All of the food on the menu is priced very reasonably. Service us good 80% of the time, but the food makes you understand and accept it. If you like a big messy burrito, you must get the California burrito. Walked into the restaurant and waited to be seated for a few. Then it took the waiter forever to come back and ask for a drink order. Finally after 30 Minutes we had our order placed. Then the waiter only returned one time in the 30 minutes to ask us if we needed anything. The 50 after we are seated we finally get our food which was just mediocre. Then finally after 2 hours of being there we paid the bill. Asking for a box was even a difficult task for them. Just very disappointed in our experience. read more

3.5 is more fitting. Los looses points on their salsa, however if you request the one with cilantro it's not bad, nothing to brag about. Service is very hit or miss, we either have excellent but we have had terrible service - it's almost guaranteed we'll have bad service if we are there with another couple or family. There seems to be no in between so we tend to only go there before or after the dinner crowd and know not to sit in a certain area bc we always get forgotten. The saving grace that keeps us coming back (weekly) is the prices. Prices compare with fast food joints and I'd take Los over McD's any day! read more

We've lived in New Castle for five years and this is one of our favorite places. The food is authentic as it gets in central Indiana. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are more than substantial. We have had no problems with the wait staff. In fact, they have been efficient given how busy they usually are. I like seeing a waiter carrying several plates on one arm and doing it well. Free entertainment. Anyway it is as good as it gets in New Castle and that is pretty darn good. We like it. read more

This place has terrible decor/ambiance( There's a freezer in the dining room, for example.), but the food is pretty good. Several vegetarian options. I would not get their chile relleno, though. I've tried it 3-4 times, & each time, it's been soggy, lukewarm, & bland. Aside from that, it's great & the portions are enormous. The reason I didn't give it 4 stars is due to the service. The last time I went, we had a nice, but trashy older lady who kept forgetting stuff so we got our food piecemeal. Tonight I went there again, & encountered possibly the worst server I've ever had. He never asked us how the food was or if we needed anything. It took 15 minutes before he even came over to the table. Yes, it was busy, but he stood behind the counter( we were seated right next to the server station) and counted his tips, flirted with the girls, etc. We had to flag him down to get carryout boxes & the check. I reviewed this place a while ago and since then my opinion has changed. The food is still decent, and they still have a liquor license, but the decor is so run down. Also, the service is oh! so bad anymore. The last time we were there, we sat patiently until we watched 2 other tables of people who came in after us get their salsa and chips and their drink orders taken. Assuming we were invisible to the staff, we walked out. We will most likely not be back, considering there is a much better alternative just down State Road 3 south of there. read more

Used to love this place. Always been a communication barrier but last 2 visits were unacceptable. Told server we couldn't have onions in anything as my young kids just won't eat them. There were onions in everything. In addition order was no where close to what I ordered. I've been in service industry for 30 yrs and repeating order back to your guest can be very helpful to insure happy diners getting what they want. Sad as I really loved this place.
