    Passion fruit and mango juice
    Saphace A.

My family and I went to Zanzibar and mainland Tanzania in the fall so we were excited to hear that there was a restaurant like this in town! We ordered the chicken curry with rice, biryani, chicken curry with chapati, and the red snapper fish with a coconut sauce. We also got beef and chicken sambusas and decided to try the mango passion fruit juice. I so badly miss cheap fresh-pressed juice and this was delicious!! We LOVED the sambusas. Definitely something to order again. We didn't eat it with the sauce that came on the side. Didn't need them. We liked the food! The chicken curry reminded me of the West African tomato stew my dad often makes. It's not heavy on the curry and you get chunky pieces of meat. The food lasted us a while! I would come back to try some other stuff. We didn't exactly get to roam around Zanzibar to try street food, so there was a lot of the menu that interested me. I've been to Drelyse before so it's in this same area within a neighborhood. I'll be back!

Amazing food. Riziki Swahili Grill is the place to be for a good comfort meal. Just from a first visit, you can see how much heart and soul they pour into their food. It's real home cooked meal. The chicken sambosa is a burst of flavor with a light kick of spice. For the main, I got a chicken curry with a side of a spinach. Both SO good. Cooked in coconut oil, the spinach was unlike anything I'd ever had before. Paired with their buttery, flaky chapati, it's a meal fit for royalty. Taking a break from the spice, we got a freshly prepared ginger juice. The food isn't the only treat here. We were immediately greeted with kind service. Our waitress gave us phenomenal recommendations and a fascinating background on East Africa.

Customer appreciation day! Amazing and free!

My husband and I saw all the great reviews and decided to go here today for an early dinner. We were so lucky because they happened to be having a customer appreciation day. We were greeted by Riziki who is the owner/ chef and she explained that each year she does an appreciation day as it was with her customers' support that they've been in business for 7 years and through the pandemic. Her passion and generosity were evident not only from how she came and introduced herself but also the way the free food was set up. We were able to sample their juices (the Mango flavored was my favorite), beef and chicken Sambusa (both crispy and flavorful but I liked the beef one more) a fried potato appetizer and a perfectly spiced fish one. Unfortunately I can't remember the name but she said it could be special ordered. They had a cabbage and a mixed veggie dish with peas which she mentioned normally there is a bean dish on the menu which is prepared similarly with coconut flavors. I loved it. They had two different rice dishes both great. My favorite was the beef curry. The beef was tender & saucy with the perfect amount of seasonings. There was also a chicken dish and fresh chapati )fried bread). You can order on grub hub and door dash but we plan on coming back in person. The decor and music inside added to the festive mood. Highly recommend! 10/10

What a gem! Wonderful service Zanzibari food. We had super sambusas, chai, beef curry and pulso which was really good pickles cabbage warm kale salad and curried goat. Really yummy. But the stand out was the atmosphere it was so friendly we met the owner and the wait staff were both lovely. The decor was giving beach vibes in the dead of winter with positive messages on every wall. The exterior is humble-and it's next to a Tamarack circle carry-out but please do not let that dissuade you. This place is a unique Columbus experience.

This place is a gem! All of their menu items are delicious and flavorful. They had great friendly service as well. We went in as a large group of 15 and they put all the tables together to accommodate us. We did take up the entire dine in space. Their food has Indian flavors with an African twist. The portions are large and filling. The drinks are amazing too, our favorites were the ginger and tamarind. Very refreshing. The spicy beef sambusa is a great starter. They have chicken, beef, and vegetable option for the sambusas, which can be ordered spicy. They were yummy, crunchy, generously filled, and not greasy at all. I got the chapati with beef curry and kale side. There were two chapatis (similar to Indian paratha), which had nice layers and some nice crunch to the outer layer. The beef curry was very flavorful and had the perfect amount of gravy. All the dishes came with a habanero sauce on the side, which I appreciated. My husband got the Zanzibar special with jasmine rice and beans. The goat dishes were great. The goat meat had no smell to it (many times it's hard to avoid it) and was perfectly cooked. We all really enjoyed our meals. I asked about the taste of Africa platter and was told they serve that every 2-3 months on a special "Africa" day. I definitely would go back here again!

I came here visiting from out of town and was pleasantly pleased with the quality, taste, and service I received here. The samosa did not make it to my hotel as I ate it on my way. It was delicious. I highly recommend this place.

An amazing mix of Indian and African fare. We had sambusa, chapati beef curry and Zanzibar special with chapati. The sambusa are eggroll thin, crispy and pipping hot. Filled with a savory ground beef that is delicious and impressive. The Zanzibar goat is crispy, chewy caked in spices cumin, pepper, that cut through the crispy laminated buttery chapati. A must have if you visit. Chapati beef curry was a fantastic mix of tomato beef akin to Shanghai style staple. Hosts were very amicable and available. Enough space for 5-6 parties of 3-4. Groups larger than 7 would be a bit cramped.

    Biriani Platter (lamb)

This place is a gem. The reviews are high for a reason. The food was phenomenal to say the least. Everything was fresh, flavorful and delicious. The ladies working were extremely nice and offered us free chai tea and mandazis on the house. In addition they were tentative and excited to see us enjoy our food. I would highly recommend trying the sambusas, the mango refresher, and the lamb Biriani Platter......or anything. Try anything. Please do yourself the favor and go

Riziki Swahili Grill is named after the beautiful, friendly owner & chef, Riziki. This is the first and only Tanzanian restaurant in Columbus. It's truly a hidden gem with one of the best flavors I've had here. I got to speak to Riziki before ordering and she gave me so much info about questions I had. Which entree I should choose and informed me that Zanzibar food is heavily influenced with African, Arab and Indian spices and flair since their island is a melting pot. I opted for an appetizer of a chicken and a beef sambusa and chapati. Omg I loved the sambusas but the chapati that's made with ghee butter was so rich, flaky and my favorite!! My entree was the deep fried fish of the day (tilapia) covered in a savory coconut cream sauce blanketed on a bed of pilau rice. For $14.99 it was definitely about 3-4 meals. I had so much leftover but she cooked it perfectly with thick pieces of fish after I deboned it. I can't wait to come back here with friends next time! I want to try it all on the menu. The best East African spot in Columbus!

SEVEN WORDS: TRADITIONAL, LOW PRICED, EHIOPIAN CUISINE / SKETCHY NEIGHBORHOOD…read more . Since we Live in Whitehall and my Wife has never tried Ethiopian Food, we stopped by Lalibela's - One of this part of towns historic Go-Toss. for Ethiopian Food anywhere in Columbus. . As we parked Our Car, we were greeted by a Short Strip Mall that had a very Gritty Look to the Exterior: Dirty Windows, Littered Parking Lot (with an Unbelievably High Number of Old Blackened Bubble Gum Stains from Parking lot to Front Door. It was Something you might see in a Marrakesh Baszaar - or any thired World Place where the Challenge was to actually keep things Clean on a Continual Basis. However, this is Hamilton Road in Sub-(Urban) Columbus. . We've eaten at Several Other Whitehall Restaurants - and Nothing look like this until you get on the South Side of Livingston Avenue - and Beyond. Still, I am personally undaunted by Exteriors - and sometimes the Restaurants themselves - by a little bit of unclean surrounds. . We Entered and the place immediately reminded you of a Middle Eastern Restaurant - Well-Stocked Bar along the Opposite Wall from the Entrance, a Quaint Restaurant that is outdated - and probably needs a good refresh on Furniture and Wall Coverings - but All are VERY Negotiable in a World Food Setting. . When we Looked through our Menus, we really didn't know a Single Dish on the Menu. Still, I chose the Beef Kitfo (Cooked to Medium) and My Wife Got the Beef Tibs (Cooked to Mild). . Unfortunately, we are both fans of a Very Mild Food - so this was not quite for us. Still, Let's try to give it a reasonable Fair Review, based on the Community, not the Individual Tastes. . Kitfo is a traditional meal, where a thick chili-like paste is cooked and placed in a small bowl with a Starchy Yogurt Sauce that has more of a butted whirred potatoes than the true yogurt that is mentioned. . The Bowl/Tureen sits atop a large pancake of "Injera," a fluffy Bread that is half-way between crepe and pancake, but 100% Savory. The traditional eating method is the Right Hand, taking the Injera in the right hand, folding around a dollop of Kotfo (or whichever protein) and maybe smoothing on a small bit of the Yogurt. Again - it's like Potatoes in this case, which was great. . Sorry for Being Lengthy, but If you don't know Ethiopian, you don't know it at all. . The Kitfo was mildly spicy and had the strong tastes of both Anise and Cardamom: Both are very Savory, but As Good as a licorice Liquor. The Beef, cooked to my liking - was like a spicy chili with a deep smoky tinge of Chili powder - and maybe even turmeric. Bright and Bold, but not Overwhelming. The Injera (bread" was like a fine piece of wheat-pumpernickel bread, a small bit tart, but quite yummy. It complemented the Kotfo perfectly. . My wife truly doesn't like Spicy food - and the Beef Tibs (not Tips, but a similar mash of Beef, Tomatoes, Chopped Onion, and some hot Peppers of some sort. . Due to the Heat and Exotic Flavors, we filled up quite quickly, but there would still be enough for a Hearty Serving for Each of Us. The Bill, including Two Entrees and One Soda came to $42 Reasonable, considering two Beef Dishes - and the Extra prep for the Made-from-Scratch Injera. . Although I Ranked it 3-Stars, it's still a mid-3, Maybe 3.45. Was it the Best Ethiopian? I'm not Sure of that, But I'll let you know whenever I try another of these Restaurants this Summer.

Everything was packed really nicely and the portions are big. The lamb shank was fall off the bone and really well spiced. Everything we got was actually really nice in flavors. I got jollof rice with the meat and it was spicy but not overpowering. The plantains were really good and the salad was fresh. I love everything mango, so the mango lemonade was refreshing. My son enjoyed the chicken sambusa and my husband enjoyed the Afra chicken meal. I gave my son ketchup as a dip for the sambusa because although their sauces are very good, they are much too spicy for him. The Afra spicy sauce was good and my husband said it elevated his chicken meal. They also included crepes with our meal. I was not aware that they come with the meal or if they just gave us these as an extra. The crepes were huge though and delicious. They had the perfect amount of sweetness to them. We were late in picking up our meal, so appreciated the staff for holding it for us. The food was fairly warm even after the delay. We will definitely be back.

My very first meal on moving to Ohio!…read more On my way from the airport to the hotel, I was hankering for some good food. Good ol' Yelp popped up Foodateria on my route, and I am so glad it did. The restaurant had a warm ambiance with earthy tones as you walk in. Nothing to write home about with standard tables and chair but one is here for the fare! The gentleman who runs the restaurant kindly suggested the Yetty's Egusi. In my opinion it was the perfect surf and turf (or should I say surf and fluff?) dish. This was a delicious stew with both fish and chicken in it. The stew of spinach (or was that kale?) and melon seeds in palm oil initially left me a little confused wondering if it was ricotta cheese, scrambled eggs, or fish roe. The Chicken drumstick and the fish morsel were deep fried separately then added to the stew later before serving. The chicken was really good with a teeny crust from the frying, and moist and juicy inside, but I have got to hand it to the fish. It was moist, flaky, flavourful, and reminded me of all the river fish I grew up eating. Upon mentioning to the gentleman that I was intrigued by the Fufu, he let me order it as a side (it's not usually served with the Egusi). It was super soft, starchy, with no need to masticate. Had you come here with your gummy teeth, having left your dentures at home, you would have absolutely no problems downing this dish. Had on its own it reminds one of a smooth and creamy mashed potatoes. I enjoyed pinching out tiny morsels of it, dunk it in the sauce, and just let is slide down my chute. PS: I read that it is considered ill-mannered to chew the fufu. One usually swallows the morsel without any chewing. And I can see why. Just crush it up with your tongue against the roof of your mouth to extract its mild flavour and enjoy the creamy texture, and off it goes! It's been a while, and I really need to go back again!
